SHAAWA: I am still searching for where Buhari gave the order from the report. All i read was security barred AIT reporter from covering the event. Headlines are meant to be sensationalized, hyped to attract more readers. It may just be an overzealousness on the part of the security . Remember former IGP withdrawal of Tambuwal's security personnels. and the IGP and the President got a roasting for that remember. GEJ went against the press a couple of times, he wasn't spared. Why does Buhari's supporters think he is above the law of democracy. |

MadCow1: Sahara did not oppose anybody.. Sahara were simply exposing fraud within the Jonathan Governemnt which he simply did nothing about. Sahara reporters exposed things like the Stella Oduah saga and more.. Most of their reports were backed with evidence of sorts.. AIT didn't need any evidence to air their rubbish.
Sahara reporters never covered any events because they are not that type of media outfit..
Now on the issue of Fox and Obama, how many times have you seen Fox and Obama sitting down for an interview? Compare that to the number of time Obama would grant interviews to other pro democrat stations..
We have no beef with AIT, all we are asking them to do is stay in their lane.. They weren't covering Buharis campaign trails, so they shouldn't start now.. The best days of the APC are long gone. Buhari the candidate was not the sole cause of voter apathy. It had much to do with the cumbersome electoral system, the overheating of the polity by both parties and the lack of faith in government as a whole as exemplified by the out going regime. Having said that Buhari has some doubts revolving around his persona particularly with the older generation who know him through and through and feel he will just not tick enough boxes by the end of his tenure.
However it is heart warming to see doubts arise. Hopefully they grow to dissent and evolve into solid opposition to broaden and deepen democracy in the northern polity similar to what happened in the west and less successfully in the south-south under OBJ and GEJ respectively. |

In as much as Sanusi has become a saint over night... Are all the shabby appointments that were dished out to his kinsmen from kano and kaduna be probed as well? A big organization like CBN has not recruited in almost five years (if not more than), yet new employees resume work there every Monday morning.. Same with NDIC, NSMPC, NNPC, top ministries in Abuja etc. Are we gonna probe all these as well... Buhari and the APC, as well as Nigerians should give Nigeria a fresh start... Not spending more years and resources hunting down the past.... A new beginning should be launched where transparency, accountability and due process would be the order of the day.. If the new government spend time chasing the past, in the nearest future Nigerians would start screaming change again... If the past is negatively going to affect his government and its ability to operate effectively in the future he has every right to recall and straighten out. Corruption is like cancer. What you see is often a bit part of what there is and scratching the surface of a malignant tumor is a waste of time. My take on these things is that they are so widespread and systemic nothing tangible can be done about it so why bother in the first place. Some will even say that SLS only spoke up because he was left out of the party. |

I think little by little, one step at a time we are beginning to realise that the game is more important than the players, the institutions more than the practitioners. We will get there. In 4 years time I have a feeling that people will weigh the APC much more on its ability to move the democratic process forward thus creating a platform for national stability and sustainable growth rather than on the number of roads built or the number of felons in jail.
It is so wierd that people are now tacitly sacrificing electoral probity on the altar of peace and stability. It is dangerous to kill justice for peace to live but that is what you get when the system is so poor, when the structure is fragile, when institutions are so weak. They must be supported at all and often very heavy cost. Just like sedating a patient to perform heart surgery. Its russian roulette. |

shiningshina: Although GEJ toyed with the seriousness of Boko terrorism at the beginning, and inadvertently allowed them to fester, he cannot entirely be blamed for our dire situation. Terrorism is very difficult to defeat. The United States military have failed to defeat AlQaeda and Taliban in Afghanistan for 14 years. It is not an easy matter.
The problem is: no one tackles the root of the whole problem. There are still deadly fatwas rushing out of Saudi Arabia from its radical clerics (who also happen to be the palace scholars) which command Muslims to be intolerant against other humans, even encouraging "holy war" against anyone who does not follow the extremist Saudi brand of Islam. Unless these blood-drenched fatwas are stopped, there will always be gullible Muslims who follow them, and so there will always be Muslim terrorism across the world.
Sadly, the US is allies with the Saudi government (which pays for those fatwas). Another safety net for the in coming government. The standards ane expectations lowered day after day. |

OBJ > Shagari > Buhari. 20 odd years later OBJ > Jonathan > Buhari.
Those who fail to acknowledge history are bound to walk the same paths of destruction. The only thin that has changed is that by divine providence in the death of Yaradua the man in the middle is from the other end of Nigeria but this pan-Nigerian democratic experience teaches us exactly what.
For starters: OBJ so believes in democracy he hands over to men (Shagari and Jonathan) that have 'no experience whatsoever in governance' at the highest levels. He believes so much in education he ensures they are academicians (Shagari. Yaradua and Jonathan). He believes so much in probity so he ensures they are from similar 'humble' backgrounds. He believes so much in 'statesmanship' so he ensures they are so humble, soft spoken, pliable to a fault and I can go on and on.
What is it about OBJ and the Nigerian State that this owner, this majority stakeholder designs and implements his philosophies on how it should be run time and time again when it is clear it doesn't work and the people want a hardened dictator. They were glad in 1983 when the OBJ experiment ended and a certain Buhari took over. They are glad that the OBJ model has ended again and once again Buhari has taken over.
For how long will this struggle for the heart and soul of Nigeria between OBJ and its citizens continue. When will there be a ceasefire and a unification of interests, direction, philosophies. When will we make a true and clean break from the past, from the viscious cycle of hegemony.
I find it indeed baffling that one man - OBJ can have so much influence till date on the course of our nationhood particularly when projecting in his will (of probity, enlightenment, humility, democracy, etc) what he consistently proves not to be and finding such wide scale acceptance even amongst the learned is quite simply baffling.
OBJ is clearly head honcho amongst the 'owners of Nigeria'. When such forces combine with the feudalistic 'born to rule' gale blowing from the north it can mean only one thing, a tornado of immense national torment....for a iong, dark season...then the cycle starts...all over again.
I wonder what IBB will be thinking. |

Apparently, the top brass of the military was always bound to be sacked by GMB for their alleged partisanship during the certificate saga. GMB has probably negotiated with GEJ for him to wield the hammer instead, so the General won't appear vindictive if he is to do it. The armed forces is not a part neither is it interested in your partisan politics. Its appointments, promotions and retirements are according to its traditions, laws and programmes. Let a thorough probe of NNPC/Alison Madueke/GEJ/PEJ be carried out to ascertain the level of evil perpetrated by these glutons since 2010, then let all that are culpable be sent to Bauchi prison or Gashua, let all the management of NNPC be removed, then we can be sure we are starting a new country as from May 29, bunch of idiots![/quote]and how does that address the issue of our quest for cheap oil via subsidies. For your info. It is nigh impossible to effectively run an industrial process where the products donot sustain it. For instance you simply cannot run a refinery by government allocation alone such as in a subsidy regim.. The operations are just too complex for bottle necks and red tape Nigeria edition. |

hedonistic: These people are very stupid. The fact remains that removing subsidies would certainly translate to higher prices. Is that not what has been happening with diesel since subsidy on diesel was removed? It's clear that a cartel controls the downstream oil sector, and the same way they have successfully held up diesel prices is the same way they will conspire against Nigerians to hold up petrol prices, that is the final and unchangeable argument against subsidy removal as far as Nigeria is concerned. We don't want.
Nigerians do not want to pay higher prices for petrol it is really that simple. Using this big grammar of subsidy or no subsidy to complicate issues is not going to help anybody. Nigerians say no to paying more for petrol, whether subsidy stays or goes, full stop. And is it not the same cartels behind the fuel subsidy scams. For why do these people continue to elevate and project themselves and their interests above and beyond the institutions they claim to represent. What does the Executive have to discourse with the Legislature. What does an APC leader have in common with a PDP leader. What does a lawmaker, a regulator have to chat about with a practitioner except the same old system of negotiated entitlements and compensations.
