bakynes:Will you say the same if Goodluck won and state exactly what Buhari said. Be honest. |
As the incoming President he will have started receiving intelligence briefings in meetings at the very top. The picture is beginning to 'transform' (pun intended) from one of politics to one of governance hence the 'change' (pun intended) of opinion of our President. I have said it times without number. Nigerians donot know the difference between politics and governance, between rhetoric and reality, between promises and possibilities. Between the problems they the people cause and the problems the government causes. Between their responsibilities in nation building and the responsibility of leadership. I said a lot of people will be disappointed not because Buhari is incompetent or incapable but because some of these problems are systemic, fundamental, widespread or intrinsic making their solutions well beyond the 4 year term of any individual. Some others are so fundamental that a total overhaul of the Nigerian state is necessary to solve them. These are not leadership but people issues. Only them can drive those changes. But unfortunately because a vast majority of Nigerians are (sorry to say so) ignorant about the workings of nationhood it is easy to herd them down a blind alley. When the realities eventually arrive the backlash is often great. No matter what happens ahead and no matter what problems arise I will not blame Buhari or the APC. I will blame Nigerians for it is their responsibility to decide. The best days of the APC are over. Responsibility via reality is hard. |
Holatunde007:Whatever you believe is empowered to change your character and alter the course of your destiny. When I read posts like these I try to enter the mindset of the person involved and from subtle lines in your narrative you have a strong predisposition to these things. The most prolific of weed will find it tough to grow on rock while the hardiest of seeds will do well in good soil. Your friend is not doing well there simply because he is not set up to succeed there. It is a function of knowledge and application. Take him through the laws of success and no oath will hinder him. I will tell you how the devil operates. Through the mind. The power he has over people is limited to his ability to make people beleve his capabilities and act out his agenda. He primarily rules through fear and doubt. Fear of him and doubt about yourself. If he had his way there will be no man remaining on earth. He needs people to destroy one another and he does so by manipulating their minds. |
Peradventure you're part of the venture to yet again elect Bonaventure you're in for an adventure. |
The APC are over-playing their hand here. And they risk isolating. Ameachi and polarizing the South even more. They should just let it go. Its beginning to sound like a 'do or die'. The party didn't coach the man on positive opposition and quite frankly it has back fired in Rivers State. A cancellation and rerun will even drive the neutrals into Wike's hand. The APC has a lot to do over the next four years to reverse the trend in the South. Going by the general antagonism of the Nigerian State to that region and the APC's body language (particularly western APC) I seriously doubt any headway will be made. This is not wise politiking on display here. |
Congratulations to Lagosians for electing a new governor. Congrats to the APC for fighting hard ti retain the seat and to the PDP for pushing them all the way. Nothing can be taken for granted anymore almost anywhere (with the exception of Cross-River). I hope the ticket spurs the ruling party to greater heights as continuity is good for development and I hope the opposition continues to mount positive, constructive pressure to.enthrone it. |
lahips:But that is why APC lost, Amaechi made himself larger than life, larger than the party and most certainly larger than the candidate Peterside to such a degree I have not seen before. It was a grave error. His advisers missed the point. I predicted a strong opposition to Jonathan from the South-South similar to what OBJ experienced in the west between 1999 and 2007 as a tool for broadening and deepening democracy so I was happy Ameachi took up the challenge. But two things went wrong. He couldn't stay on issues bordering good governance and democracy. He often went personal and sentimental. Secondly he couldn't broaden his appeal (due to his average personality) beyond Rivers State (I hope Wike is listening) to other territories in the South-South BEFORE taking his message and allegiances abroad to the 'perceived oppressors' of his people. He did not consolidate power. No foundation. Let me be clear on this and anyone reading this has to understand. That this is why power should go to the minorities. The very INEXPERIENCE of Jonathan in politiking is the same thing that has brought down Ameachi. The average politician from that region is years behind his western and northern counterparts. They have and will make strategic mistakes. No fault of theirs. They have no footsteps to follow when it comes to high-wire politics. We should have let them both continue for the good of the Nigerian project. On balance the South-South has lost two of its pre-eminent politicians within the span of two weeks in mutually assured destruction due to naivety. The South-South on balance has lost. |
Flets:A true test indeed. But remember that in the animal kingdom the sacred rule with very few exceptions is....you donot eat your kind. |
meforyou1:Hahaha. Chai, which one is criminal Okorocha. Una no go kill peson. Abeg make all of una ceasefire. The hypocrisy is becoming alarming. Yorubas don't want an Igbo say in Lagos politics claiming 'alignment' (whatever that is, thought the yorubas were champions of true federalism). On the other hand the Igbos don't want the yorubas and by extension the APC to have a foothold east of the Niger but want to influence south-western politics....what the heck is wrong with you selfish, greedy bigots. |
luminary00:I hope he doesn't so that there will be fair representation but if he does it will be the first and very critical set back to the APC. If the South-East and South-South blocs it will become a very attractive target of any potential northern candidate of either APC breakaway or new PDP which can split the northern vote. Interesting times ahead. Tribalism never pays. It drives your erstwhile friend into the hands of your enemy leaving you contending with a tag-team. |
That is the spirit of the day. See what one man's sacrifice has caused. A new standard every other politician will be judged by. Well done Rochas. |
huptin:You need to travel and see what is happening elsewhere. Its just a matter of time. Just between last year and now the traffic out of the Port of Calabar has nearly doubled. Akwa Ibom will get through the bottlenecks and get their Ibaka port (they have the funds and the supporting infrastructure). They will take all the traffic going North-East. The distance from Portharcourt to Aba, Enugu, Onitsha is much shorter than Lagos to Benin. In a democracy, the balance of economic power can change quickly. |
huptin:Other ports are being built as we speak. Don't count your chickens just yet. |
abduljabbar4:That's what happens when you keep a loaded, primed weapon in your pocket. Holsters are not fashion accessories and then the rule is simple. Before you conceal it, turn the safety catch on. But he's a thug. What will he know. |
My rule about these things is that whatever you believe works for you. I DONOT believe and choose not to believe these things exist. My bible is clear. It has told me to put a gate at the entrance to my mind and no trespassing thought is permitted to enter. Poster. Where have you seen a 'marine' spirit before. Most likely you heard and then assumed and then imagined and then empowered. Your bible says, 'donot be conformed...' but be reformed BY THE RENEWING OF YOUR MIND...., There is a popular prayer line in modern penta-spiritist churches these days and it goes like this, 'Oh Lord if there is....' or 'Oh Lord any....'. 'If' and 'any' are suggestive and supposing, assumptive phrases that have no basis in New Testament living. The bible said of Jesus. 'He knew what to do.' We should 'know' not assume things. The evidence of assumption is the 'earthification' of spiritual matters. When a person begins to look for God in every burning bush, doesn't wear shoes because every ground is holy and sees a demon in every wig. The truth is that God is a Spirit and all spirits are invisible, omni-present, and donot have preferences to the elements they influence. Renew your mind with the Word and live a peaceful, uncomplicated life. |
Bevista:The fundamental thing that seperates two political parties is ideology. Two fundamental things that causes Nigerian politicians to port. A grudge, a new nest, not ideology. Tell me if there will not be disagreements in the APC. Tell me if the positions and perks will go round and I will tell you whether an opposition group wouldn't rise up within its ranks. And by the way the APC has in its entrails all the ingridients for internal heat. Godfatherism and pre-selection, rigid, high-handed leaders and lack of internal democracy. Real political parties have rules of membership called ideologies. Popular ones are left, right, centre, conservative, liberal. These define who a particular candidate is and is an unremovable stamp on his forehead checking his entire political life. Our democracy has not reached that level. Though people like me will that balance as quickly as possible (so that I can vote for once in my lifetime) but the reality is that it will take a long time to get that balance right. Without ideology all progress is made on interests and as long as there are disputes there will be defections. I can virtually tell you when, how and involving whom the next big move out of APC will be. There are no ideological gates or fences. Amaechi is in the APC simply because Rivers oil went to Bayelsa. Period. Rochas is there, same as Atiku because of the Presidency and on and on. Are you saying there will not be disputes and impossible ambitions in the APC led government? |
freethinker01:In evolutionary terms we are just an egg of a democracy so you are right and wrong. Right not to support political parties because all eggs look alike. You don't know which is male and which is female. Both the PDP and APC are alike. But you are wrong in voting candidates in selecting eggs because the rooster you thought might actually be a hen. A better way is to own the poultry and raise birds. Support the system and let it grow then take ideological positions in the future. Taking sides or candidates at this stage of our nascent democracy in my opinion is futile and will lead only to frustration. Forget the players and the teams, just love the game and keep your head. |
Bevista:Raise what nonsense bar. Have they not benefitted from defections. Now they will suffer its downside. They rejoiced when oil prices were sky high. Now that their customers are broke oil prices are tumbling. Nigerians and ignorance. It is now Oyegun realises an 'external opposition' is necessary. When you kill all the snakes you have given lifelines to the rats. He will wake up after May 29 and realise the opposition has moved into the APC and will eat the party from within. Politicians are like matter. They can neither be created, nor destroyed just 'change' from one state to the other. Don't worry when the music stops whoever doesn't have a political seat will form the opposition he is looking for because the Nigerian goody bag cannot go round all invitees to this parry. |
The world is becoming a global village. Britons of Nigerian heritage are being elected in to the House. In Europe, North America, heck, a black, non caucasian is the President of the United States today. That is progress. That is change. Before you can change others you must believe in what you preach. What is happening in Lagos, a former FEDERAL capital built with the commonwealth into what it is today. Sliding back and back into a normal state. Lagos is what it is today because of the constitutional policy of Federal Character. It is cosmopolitan today because we donot operate as a true Federation. The centre is mighty and its influence shapes society. And once a society is shaped it either conforms, reforms or dies. What we see are the subtle beginnings of the latter. Should it worsen people will simply weigh whether it is worth it and start seeking alternatives. No doubt. Population is the driving force behind the economy of Lagos. It has no other natural resources beyond its people, their talents and assets. An attack on its people is an attack on its resources. Be very wary. History is filled with stories of the rise and fall of great empires, colonies, territories and cities due to a myriad of reasons. Ethnic divisions is one of them. Every civil strife is caused by ignorance and a breakdown in communications. The learned ones will oft allow the thugs lead but suffer more the consequences. They should speak out now. |
chrisbaba1:Instead of taking the lead in breaking the barriers of indigenship as a prelude to true Federalism (which is the only condition that will make the north join up). By this Lagos will likely lose its prime position. |
WIZGUY69:And of what benefit is that to you. |
bigt2:I think the best so far. Its about the game, not the player and the game has improved tremendously. He will be hard to beat. Just look at the carnage called State elections. |
omenka:You've once spoken about the new anti-corruption stand. Is this yet another convenient exception. Stand for something. It is the only way out of this viscious cycle. You will never see me speaking about any anti-corruption stand because I know it is just the product or sympton of a basic structural problem in Nigeria. Why for instance should my destiny be tied inextricably to those in the picture who know next to nothing about what they are doing except some evil elements pushing them. Why should I have an equal vote with those folks in those picture when my world and theirs, my values and theirs have no semblance whatsoever. Guess what. Structure. Restructure Nigeria and those ignorant looking kids will stay at home and I will get fair representation because their actions and those behind them will not matter. |
Clutching at straws. You're all a disappointment. This unfortunate incident has gone viral and global and no amount if white-washing can cover the gaffe it was. My candid advise is introspection and reforms but in the public eye if apologies are difficult, silence is a smarter option. This counter attack only makes it worse. A sign of admission, of weakness, of guilt. Everybody will suffer this kind of affliction at one point or the other. It is the power of success at work and the inevitable pride that cones with it. The best days of the APC are over. |
Corruption is defined as what the other man does and excusing, defending it is the reason why it will never end. Is Desmond Elliot now working in the accounts office.? |
Zico5:So sorry for you. Next wee you will seek a visa to travel to another country. And the visa officer will stamp 'NO ENTRY TO PARASITES'. Wake up and reform. This is 2015. If Lagos cannot have foreigners its economy will surely die. Indigenes DO NOT DEVELOP A TERRITORY. Foreigners do because they have only one reason for being there - Enterprise. Indigenes are typically lazy and laid back. That is the difference between your home and your office. |
bonechamberlain:Most foreigners will prefer Northern rule. They find them easier to handle....or mis-handle. |
So, so on point. This lady is the bomb. Couldn't have placed it better. There are many theories to the problems afflicting Nigeria. One thing I had said long ago. If there is one thing the outgoing administration has done, is to uncover, to expose the soft, raw and perhaps rotting underbelly of the Nigeria State for the one purpose. So that we can find lasting, surgical remediation to our national woes instead of the cyclic failings of patchwork palliatives that go nowhere, the kinds that the Obasanjos and other 'owners', 'custodians' of Nigeria prescribe for us to no effect. First it was proven that the minorities (the non big 3) could lead this country. It was also proven that the north given the right circumstance is not a homogenous block...and so on. The latest which we all bear witness to is that Lagos is indeed cosmopolitan and increasingly belongs to all (which is entirely a good thing by the way) and finally that despite all the claims to education and intellect, many in the south-west lack basic intelligence (no offence intended) on issues of politics, governance, the formation, growth and prosperity of nations including history and all the pitfalls various peoples have experienced. Chiamanda is spot on from most angles. The summation of our collective ills, our national dung that has been hidden under the bed cloth for too long in hope of peace, stability and growth is the biggest source of our discomfort and malaise. We had better look again at the terms of our union, our structure and take the bold but shameful decision to take out that dung and bury it forever otherwise we will not make progress. It has been a bad week for Lagos, perhaps the APC and touchingly the yoruba nation. But it is a good one, for after surgery, Lagos may begin to heal and perhaps emerge stronger, fairer to all and united forever. |
TRADELYN:Sure it will come around and I'm sure they won't complain. |
seyiade50:They can't, they won't. They are just too dull. |
usmanniya:No government there abeg. The place looks like downtown Saigon after the Tet offensive. Only heavy mortar rounds could have caused such damage. Geez. |
astana1:Just explain. There's no need to go defensive, emotional and sultry on matters like these. For goodness sake it is just a bridge. Haba. Are we that starved of success stories. |

So how did he kill himself and what makes you think he is an Apc thug?
PDP will soon die a silent death in the North. [/size]
