dustmalik:See what I mean. Defence till 2019..... |
Sweetguy25:A better and simpler definition of corruption is: what the other man is doing. People look for lightning rods to vent their frustrations when the other man is getting what the other man has. You will soon see a new set of anti-corruption crusaders emerge from the evicted party while the ruling party will play defence till 2019. |
eddydey:But it is not his call. We all know the origins of the insurgency. But the government still cannot prove its theory. Any way you look at it, the government failed to tackle it effectively. They failed to strain the politics in it from the criminality, terrorism and extremism. You cannot only prove something through rigorous repetition. Even the security agencies could not extract one, not even half a confessional statement or evidence from the thousands of witnesses, perpetuators and escaped abductees to back up its claim. Even high profile assets such as the arrested Madalla and Nyanya bombers could give them nothing. That is failure. The out-going governmemt owes the public an explanation as to what this whole thing is about. |
The elections are won and lost. There is not political correctness amongst them. They are saying it as they see it. Whatever truly happened will emerge over time when the in coming administration has gone through the files hopefully in conjunction with a new security team. But the thought that a government can fall due to an incident like this is far fetched in a growing democracy such as ours. The Carter government owed much of its re-election failure to the Iranian hostage crisis. But these are advanced societies where government often has few cards to play with and no jokers whatsoever. Image is hardly a challenge to autocracies and young democracies. Jonathan was unpopular Chibok or not. Part due to performance and part due to establishment. In many peoples eyes he just has to go whether those girls were lost or found. Doyin misses the point. |
Okay. It is now the single term. Not good governance issues. Can Nigerians for once in their lives agree on how we should develop as a nation. This assymetric tug of equal opposing aspirations is taking us no where. Can we agree for instance on what basis to hold the government of Buhari accountable and thus re-electable or otherwise. If not by next elections there will not tangible deliverables. Blessed are those who expect nothing (or cannot agree on anything) for they shall never be disappointed. Our problem in this country is purely structural. |
bisten14:Nothing. There were race riots during his rule and after. Nothing new here. |
hadizadeezy:Hmmmm. |
Yungwizzzy:No. It is an opportunity for introspection and self identity. It is a huge advantage. The South-East has produced the Senate President. Before Mark they were all from the South-East. To what benefit. Very little. Ike Ekweremadu has been by far the most effective Senator in this dispensation. He was the Deputy at best. The Igbos should remain firmly in opposition. The west did it for all but sixteen years and built an identity. The east should do similar and emerge with their own brand of change that will take us to the next level when this one will have run its course. No nation should put all its political eggs in one basket. |
abuchilag:Our problem is not people. It is structure. The structure of the Nigerian system cannot make for development but rather promotes corruption through state sanctioned, constitutional enshrined system of sectionalism and nepotism by 'compensations', 'allocations' and 'entitlements'. Competence and credibility will always play second fiddle to our quest for national integration, a mirage that can never be grasped. For those who go to the polls to vote competence they are yet again left with remnants. That is what the Nigerian state offers. Today, by our jaundiced system we are left with Saraki and Akume. Please, this is not a choice. It is a slap across the face. These two are certainly not agents of change. These two are reknowned looters. These two as governors did next to nothing. Are these the best Nigeria has to offer. Heck, are they better than the much derided David Mark? The whole thing just dey tire me. Atiku BoT Chairman because the North-East has to be compensated. What rubbish. How does Buhari intend to go after the corrupt after making Atiku his party boss. It is the electorate I am just sorry for. So much energy expended to get here only to be flogged by the system. Change the game is far more important than changing the players. |
Skoopy:He is partly the cause of this. Like Bush Jnr. in Iraq. They won the war but lost the nation. Post apartheid wasn't thought through. The gaps have been filled with this 'entitlement culture amongst other social plagues. |
datguru:I don't think so. If we could only focus more on institutions not individuals. Because the latter will always be transient but the former, eternal. That is the key to success. In the end no single wheel can solely lay claim to the movement of the device but just one broken one will be fingered for halting progress. That is what we praise at this stage. That we are making progress. Yes we are hungry. No power, no roads, no security and on and on. These are fruits we will eventually get when the tree of liberty begins to mature. So we have got to nuture the system. GEJ has done more than all before him to both broaden and deepen democracy even though at a terrible cost to his reputation and ambition. He set the bar so high I just hope it can be reached. Please let me see any other leader right now or before who has accepted his failings....and graciously let go....none. |
Very positive. For the good of the game. The best leader so far. I hope the progress is sustained. |
publicenemy:The individual involved has left the building. What do these people want. |
NobleG1:So he made a mistake isn't it. Can you see how silly your ill thought out message is. |
ossy4mokpo:3 years. Hmmm. No comment. |
Zapence:I keep on saying it. The proportion of ex-boys KIA over the past 20 to 25 years is alarming. I wonder why. |
wrench:Now you are getting more complicated. The first one sounds like the job of the Army Corps of Engineers, the second....well I'll ask my linguistic teacher. |
braintext:What about complex geometry....what exactly are we discussing here.... |
braintext:Medevial form of ritualistic sacrifice.....I think.... |
Borrussia:hmmm.....me too. Anthropology 3.1.17.125. |
Calculia:Exactly. Just a change of players and playing style. The game remains the same. New cartels will start where the old have been played out. The biggest scandal involving GMB was his time as Petroleum Minister. He of all people should know the risks. |
Eruditor:And the in coming Mjnister of Petroleum will still loot. Its a viscious cycle involving all regimes since it was established. It is a system designed for looting. Nothing will save this regime from its stain. Just a matter of time. The system called NNPC is waiting for them. |
Waste of time. NNPC is irredeemable. Toy with it and it will bite him badly. Just close the damn thing down. Restrict government involvement to monitoring and our benefit to a new and improved tax and royalty regime. No more money goes into that pit of hell. No more Alibaba joint ventures with the 5 thieves. |
shachris:Neither is he contesting any elections so why not let go. Haba. You are elevating this guy above even his party and seriously damaging Peterside and other APC candidates. He has done his two terms. There is nothing constitutionally possible for him to add to Rivers State. Better move him aside, move forward and build or rebuild your party. |
Silly man. Why didn't he stop at the police check. Impunity cost him his life. 30 years in waiting and millions spent in training. Can't even obey simple edicts. What a waste. |
sameer1212:Another one. What has happened over the past three weeks that criticism against government should suddenly come to an end. I'm sure you will say elections and change of government. But should change of government mean an end to the instruments of change?? You will say, but criticism should trail 'lack of performance' and that the new government hasn't assumed authority and that how do they know they will not perform. Well the truth is that governance is not easy. What we bought into were a series of promised anchored in character. It is mere speculation. Many other things make for a succesful government and some are not just satisfied with the promises and are not convinced about the character. It is understandable. Only performance will shut them up but even in a structurally faulty nation as ours not everyone will be bought over by performance. I have said that many times. The nature of the Nigerian state does not support good governance. |
texazzpete:They have every right to 'hate' the in coming government just as you had the right to 'hate' the out going government. Whatever argument you use to justify your present and past positions they can also match. Remember, performance is relative and diminishes over time as expectations constantly rise so the only thing keeping momentum going is criticism. Every government in the world is being criticised right now. Why you expect ours to be different baffles me. You can 'look' and 'expect'. Let them 'hate' and 'criticise'. Both your jobs are important. You are all patriots. |
lolaxavier:Why should you be tired of them. They are called opposition. They are the ONLY guarantee GMB will perform because as for the man himself, when the going gets tough will profer excuses and you his supporters will clap for him. It happened the other way round with the PDP and GEJ and that's how democracy works. You guys are the engine. The opposition is the rudder. So expect no less over the next four years. |
ijbeauty:Is there something I don't get or what. Someone gave something to get elected and he didn't. What is the scam in taking it back. It is the donor that was scammed. Nigerians should draw the line between politics and governance so that this viscious feudalistic overlording will end. Is Teslim Folarin PHCN to provide infrastructure. That is an issue of governance. He clearly did this as a political deal. And it went wrong so he can call it off. It is the people that should be ashamed at this situation. The government they elect CANNOT and they go venting their spleen on a person who SHOULD not. Everything is just upside down. I don't just get it in Nigeria of today. People sell their souls on the cheap and then wonder why they are being led like cattle. Next time they bring a transformer. Just burn the bloody thing to the ground rather than fight to keep it from a politician you have scammed. |
Drsheddy:Seems you have a forest in your village where you harvest firewood but the rest of us city dwellers must move around and our cars don't run on coal. |
Goddex:Hmmm. I thought that title belonged to GEJ. Oh well. |
Which future. They should burn that bloody place to the ground and scatter the ashes of the NNPC over the Atlantic. NNPC cannot be corrected. It is beyond the abilities of any Nigerian government. It has stained Buhari before. It can shackle him again. The seduction of filthy lucre flowing there will de-robe even the Pope. Close the NNPC down now. |
