If it is impossible to change a man's will after death how can one imagine changing God's Will after the death and ressurection. It is not possible.
What I suppose people mean is if the products of His will are realizable or not. This is entirely up to the believer. 'Be it unto you according to your faith.' Most of us believers at the expiry of our time will have accessed only minute fractions of the contents due primarily to the 'less than ideal relationship we have with Him'. Even servants, slaves of an earthly master will see better than so called sons of the Most High.
richidinho: I tot they were not corrupt to av used this kind of luxury, he could have ride on bicycle
Once again, corruption as defined in Nigeria 'is what the other man is doing or has done'. Specifically, if your interests are at cross purposes. Corruption did not start today. It will not end tomorrow. I repeat, it is not the most important problem Nigeria has.
MAITEMA: With such a vile statement coming from a former PHCN senior staff why are we still wondering who the 'ghosts' that are sabotaging gas pipelines are? I heard the Power minister say last week that "demon possessed Nigerians destroy pipelines for NO REASONS, well here's a GOOD reason; RESENTMENT FUELLED SABOTAGE.
Now they want Buhari to reverse the privatisation. What signals will you be sending out to foreign investors by doing so?
Well Nigerians will decide what happens. I just hope the public will cease blaming the President for absolutely every thing and start taking responsibility individually and collectively for a better society.
If Buhari sends the wrong signals the whole system is bound to collapse. The sector requires massive investments the kind of money government simply doesn't have. So we either raise the funds through debt or equity or both. The out going regime chose the last to fast track development. Let us see what the new government will do.
ceejay80s: Did I hear u say 10yrs ? Now I know that some nairalanders don't mean well for naija, is 2yrs not enough, gabon used 2yrs and now they have 24hrs light daily
And how many light bulbs are there in Gabon? How many plants do they have.
It seems every one these days except GEJ himself has jumped behind Buhari's agbada to hurl stones at the out going administration and I beg to ask. How can it be that no one takes responsibility for anything in Nigeria except the President and I ask is Buhari alone going to do all these things asked of him. What kind of society is this where no one knows anything, does nothing, is responsible for anything.
Why can't the unions be specific as to what is happening in the sector, what is bedevilling it and what they are doing to make it work. Or does the comrade not work there?
propofol: Utter rubbish! The buck stops at the table of the president. He is the COMMANDER IN CHIEF AND THE CHIEF SECURITY OFFICER OR NIGERIA. This is exactly what oby was saying that jesters surrounded the president and he took their advice hook, line and sinker, now he is leaving office disgraced and he would, d go down in history as the worst president Nigeria ever had.
I hope you maintain this stand without stuttering, repetition or deviating. Your time starts now....sorry on the 29th.
eazysally: Must you take on her for standing for the truth? Haba!! Somebody have to stand up for these girls else they would have sweep the issue under the carpet for long, you tink ur guvment was serious about these girls NO!! But this woman kept them on their toes let us give it to her for once. The problem is that when you don't stay in the north east you don't know what these people are going tru and if your relations are not among these chibok girls u can't feel what their people are feeling. God help us they should be found by our gallant army. But we just have to give kudos to this woman.
I hope she continues beyond the 29th of this month to prove she is apolitical and not complicit. But to criticize a hausa-fulani ex-general....I just laugh. So she must be having a ball knowing Cinderella must return to the fireplace at midnight.
Kasiem2: No, it's jonathan that caused it. The man wanted to stop and carry the people but he noticed that jonathan is married to patience so he moved on
Hmmm. Na wa for you people. Can't we just move on. Jonathan has lost, conceded and gone. When I tell you folks to look rather at instiutions rather than individuals, see the result.
Rochas and Aregbesola. . .see your life. Ntoor. . .I predict that Buhari will systematically undermine the APC governors, strip them of their power base and render them impotent before 2019. Babangida summed it up when he said that the reason for overthrowing Buhari was his inability to compromise on issues of national importance. Now he is refusing to cooperate on issue of party importance. The real uncompromising Buhari is unfolding. This is the beginning. We will see how they will tame him in democracy, knowing that they handed all the power structures to the north. We will see the folly of Tinubu and Yoruba gamble. Hope it will not be akin to removing Hitler and replacing with Stalin.
Well in a democracy there are many power tools at the hands of everyone. A working democracy is a system of checks and balances. That is why I am watching. He will soon need the governors and the pendulum will swing again. Everything will reach an equilibrium of sorts or the system breaks down. Autocracy cannot work no matter how people cheer him on.
ukandi1: i beg to vary from ur opinion. Everybody is a politician, i mean everybody including d school child. We cannot be far from these things anymore cos every single action of these fellows affects everybody in nigeria. I donot believe in Gov telling GMB who to choose or make what. How wise have d gov been so far to choose ministers for GMB? They want to install their ''political alleluia'' boys everywhere to watch their backs abi? I pray everyone shud be involve in ''who does what'' and ''who says what'' as concern everything in nigeria. Leaving politics for politicians, wrong idea.. Leaving governance for technocrats, very wrong idea.
You're right but you have to get appointees from somewhere. What the governors are saying is that the ordinary people live in States not in Federal territories so to get Federal footprints in the States they need to interface with familiar faces. There is an argument there. The boundaries between politics and governance must be clearly delineated.
Then there is the argument about strengthening or weakening the powers or influence of the Federal Government. Where does any typical Nigerian stand on that. If Buhari isolates himself in Abuja, he is done for sure. This is a democracy.
Hmmm. Insufficient information but that is not wise. Democracy is all about consultation. No politician can isolate his decisions or insulate his ideas. Democracy works by numbers, it is a net, a sum of all. If he wishes to test the structural integrity of his party, fine, the constitution supports him. But it is not the constitution that voted him in. Striking the right balance is wisdom. This is perhaps Buhari's most evident weakness he must work on. It cost him in the eighties.
deniyor: If its okay to eat in a london train, then he hasn't done anything wrong. I hope he brought a bowl of water to wash his hands too. Or does he plan to wipe his hands on the seats or walk around with pounded yam and egusi on his hands?
Hmmm. On the rails tracks perhaps. He has a bottle of water but Egusi soup is not easy to rid without soap.
Same ol. Same ol. Oga. We know all these. WHAT IS THE WAY OUT OF THE SHACKLES OF BIG OIL!!
We are tired of serial grumblers and endless petitioners. What we lack that has made the Nigerian crawl is IDEAS. The new government never offered any, just complained about the out-going. But because Nigerians generally donot know better and expect leadership to think and act for them, everything remains the same time and time and time again. This write up is quite frankly useless for purpose.
IwillLaff: Hand over to buhari and let him taKe on from there,,,THAT'S ALL
He has been there in a more powerful role with a 300 pound alsatian called Idiagbon by his side, he couldn't even scratch the surface. Under dose and the malaria came back worse.
Reading Thousands of Comments here on Nairaland, Some Users sound like a Messiah and tend to end corruption if they emerge as the President of Nigeria.
Corruption is Nigeria’s biggest problem, I guess you all know that also? …. but wait! What if you were given the Chance to become the President of Nigeria, How will you fight corruption and put a stop to it?
Drop your Comment.
Corruption is not Nigeria's biggest problem. Find out what it is then we can start.
musicwriter: Good!. The next will be to arrest and prosecute everybody implicated in that fraud. Oby Ekwesili now have not only empirical evidence but proof of corruption against her boss. And I guess the incoming messiah/corruption-fighter Buhari will show us some example by beginning from here. This's happening under his nose. Nigeria is pathetically a corrupt zoo!
Yeah. And the owners of Nigeria have re-invented themselves as clean cut bishops. And the masses are hailing them.....Houston, we have a problem...
Whatever Nigeria is today, these two also contributed massively to it. But the problem of black man is that old evil is forgotten the moment new evil shows up.
In another year from now, we will be engrossed with how bad Buhari is and nobody will be talking about Jonathan.
The problem is not with these people but with Nigerians or should I say the black man who is condemned to the pitfalls of history.....repeatedly.
cap28: chuka umunna being grilled by a british journalist - read the comments below this youtube clip and you will start to have an idea of what I mean when I say the English will never vote for this man:
some of the comments by british people about this clip:
"It's so tragic - it comes across so clearly that 'CHUKKA UMUNA' is desperate to be white and British. Nothing about this man is British. Please go back to your native land chukk"
"Chuka Umunna is absolutely sh.it in interviews"
"Chuka Umunna is a fucking re..tard, he only has anecdotal information I've never heard him give hard facts. for all i know he might not be able to count at all."
"This Chuka creep was discovered altering his own Wikipedia page where he called himself the British Barack Obama. Ironically Barack has been a complete disaster so maybe the parallel is on the mark! Needless to say, I think Britain is worth saving so therefore, I will NOT be voting Labour. Bloody traitors who want tying to stakes on November 5th....you can guess the rest!! "
"so why should working class voters vote for millionare chukka umunna? this is whats wrong with labour get back to its working class roots or lose to ukip. how anyone except immigrants wants to vote labour is a mystery and I used to be a labour voter"
"I cannot stand this man; he oozes insincerity, and literally never fails to come across badly to the viewer. Yet in the name of political correctness, we all know where he'll end up."
"What a tedious, empty-headed c..unt."
"I cannot stand this guy (Chukka)! absolute tw..at! this guy is disappearing up his own backside at a severe rate of knots! He always starts his response by diverting to a self indulging statement - sycophant! I sincerely hope he never ever gets in a position of power! He never answers a direct question because he can`t!!!"
oops Chuka looks like you're not white enough for the British public
Hey, this is absolutely normal for any, I repeat any politician. And we take it in stride. Haven't we said worse about our leaders here in Nigeria. Doesn't change the facts. I feel it remains several decades in the making for a man of colour to ascend to the summit of British politics but you cannot but admire the progress made and the courage of the man himself.
eyeview: How come nobody sees anything wrong whenever our presidents and heads of states are seen seated in mosques in jumaat services or being greeted by fellow worshippers, but it is termed as 'politicising church services' when a president attends church services?
That is Nigeria for you. They got so, so angry because for the first time a seating President of Christian faith got so close to the church. GEJ's kneeling before Adeboye comes to mind. Study the pics above. What is Buhari doing in one....the country is simply an unbalanced equation...unsolvable.
When he appoints principal officers the convoy will lengthen naturally. No big deal in convoy size. Big or small bridal train says nothing about marraige quality.
omonnakoda: They held the election yesterday,we have the results already,no soldiers, nobody died,No Orubebe, David Miliband resigned and no one is suggesting he should get a Nobel Prize
We will get there. How old is parliamentry democracy in Britain? The next check-point will be 2019 and Buhari will be the yard stick not Jonathan. I'm sure this has go you thinking...hoping...
Hmmm. Loose cannon with a broken auto-fire button. Had to be led away by minders in flak suits lest he blasts the course of democracy away. Tradition, traditional offices, traditionalists are constitutional damaged DNA. Produced nothing but national malformation since independence.
gists: I am pretty sure this perennial problem is more of political will than technical know-how. This is the result of the fraudulent privatization that some saTANists wants us to celebrate and praise gej for. What else can we really expect when the gov. sell public assets to their friends and allies as compensation for their roles in dirty politics just to hang on to power. I flew in to Nigeria some months back in the night and everywhere was dark - sharp contrast to what I saw when I left and got to my destination also in the night.
While privatization is the way to a lasting solution to this disgraceful problem, using it as a compensation for cronies can only produce more reduction in available power - how else do we explain lower available power when gej was on commissioning spree a week to elections.
I know for sure some private companies are already generating electricity from gas. I strongly believe this can be replicated by the discos. It is only when it comes to IPP that gas supply becomes an issue. The discos should be given a "partial" license to generate a fraction of the electricity demand for their area. All legislation barring them to generate should be relaxed. Imagine kaduna disco or eko disco or phed generating about 30% of the demand. Add that to what is already being supplied to them from the grid. It should come to about 60%. At an individual level, this translate to about 16 hours of electricity for everybody.
Their is no miracle Buhari can perform if we have to wait for the national grid. The discos needs to be given a bit more role.
And where will they get the gas to fire their plants or the water to fill their dams, eh. It is all so easy to criticize but the main problem is feedstock. Even the plants located atop gas fhelds are not immune.
Only one key thing in this vast machinery stands out to me (the others are just bit parts), products of this key, 'because he fought the civil war'.
Obasanjo simply cannot see himself beyond being a war time leader. He is one of the founders of the so called doctrine 'entitlement'. Because he played a key role in fighting and winning the civil war he is entitled to an unending, unliimited access to the spoils of war, that is project Nigeria. He feels this country owes him a bounty that simply cannot be repaid.
Please can anyone tell him that the civil war 'should' be over. That even war time President Gowon is not 'hanging on' and 'hanging around'. His position at his age and this stage should be one of deep circumspection. For how long will Nigeria owe this man, Mr. Owner of Nigeria.
4Play: Now that oil prices have fallen, it's hilarious seeing people asking for recourse to the savings. Just a few months ago when oil prices were still high, the short-sighted demands of the opposition was that we should have no such savings.
Now that our economic illiteracy is bearing fruit, the person who was warning about the need for fiscal prudence and savings is receiving abuse whilst the people who wanted it depleted are seeking to gain political capital from a relative lack of savings. You people are dolts.
Government is never the problem. It is always the people. They ultimately decide what is acceptable and their decisions or indecisions will steer the ship of state. Whether fuel subsidy, economic diversification, excess crude/sovereign wealth or even socio-political issues such as constitutional review, Nigerians are largely irrational and are failing themselves.
Of course the new government will borrow. Of course it will rather 'allocate from the centre', of course it will have its own cartels, rent seekers and thieves. These are things government, any government cannot do without. It is onjy the people that can bring about fundamental change on the altar of personal interests in favour of collective, lasting ideals. It is only the people who can agree to liquidate a bankrupt Osun, Imo or Zamfara. It is only the people who will decide if Holy Pilgrimages are an investment or an expense.
I wish to warn again about the waste of time and distraction from the 'fundamentals' this anti-corruption ideology is become. I wouldn't go as far as saying that the drum beats of corruption around the outgoing regime coincided with the moves first to reform the oil sector, then reform the country as a whole through 'the Confab'. The truth is I would rather invest in a company with strong fundamentals rather than one that strives not to lose a penny. I am rather worried about how many bridges Julius Berger is building than what the CEO earns or what his CFO steals. Even if every penny this country earns is kept, will it develop this country, no. Can it match our population, no. Will it make us rich, no. Will it build all the infrastructure, no. Especially when oil prices fall. We are a strategically vulnerable country not because of corruption but because Nigerians are not willing to take the risk of communal trust and bear the sacrifices of nationhood.
Watch out. We will gain a few dollars here and there as people steal less but the great cover-up, the great deception will remain for another many years. When OBJ said the elections saved us from the brink, I just smiled. Yes, of course. The brink of the truth.
