maclatunji: Ok!Oya. Go and sin no more. Anyway the Saudi authorities are doing what all responsible governments should do towards their people but more importantly as custodian to the holy sites and hosts of the holy pilgrimage they are equally responsible for the health and welfare of all attending nationals and will not be held accountable for spreading the disease to people and parts un- touched via the hajj. It is wise, it is right. |
maclatunji: I have been telling anybody who cares to listen that Islam is practical to anybody who cares to learn sinceSo you do all these spamliners too. Disappointed. |
JerryJJZ: Am I d only one who actually bathed wt warm water added salt and even drank salty water before leavin dis morninThe CDC boss has dissed it as a mere rumour. Doesn't make any sense. The skin ejects salt constantly in sweat so....what's the point actually. |
bushdoc9919: Well, this is BAD NEWS for LASU financiallyExactly. Just kicking the can down the road. The debate will forever rage between those who feel that education is all about quality versus those for quantity. I know where I stand with most things. |
Snowden cannot survive this. The US is a democracy, Russia is an autocracy. A bullet to Putin's head or the breaking news of cancer and the whole country is in disarray and Snowden sent back via UPS express. Venezuela is an example. On the other hand Obama comes Obama goes nothing changes. No statutes of limitations here. His cell will wait to comfy him till hell freezes over. And once the GOP gets into the White House then we will see that his present problems will be as pleasurable as a typical south Florida theme park. He has made history alright but....sorry. |
Reduced the grip of the APC on the House eh? What grip? What has the APC been doing with its equality in the first place. Nothing. No pressure. No alternative ideas. No nothing. Zero impact. So disappointed. Principled opposition remains the only way we can grow democracy and by extension the nation. Say no to silence, consent, inter-party under hand agreements and paddy-paddyism. |
Sagamite: Another cretinous person!Don't mind them. They don't realise that GEJ beyond 2015 may even be an impediment to Foreign Investment if he is re-elected unpopularly. They care not who is in office but the process by which he comes in. They may look to the future and stomach bad roads, poor power and the insurgency but when democracy as a whole is at risk due to a faulty electoral system then they won't play, simple. |
SirShymex: Interesting. But I've been shouting this for days. It just upsets me that the science is just too slow and too far behind this galloping plague when it is patently obvious even well protected medics are dropping like flies. This particular viral strain is super aggressive and those who attempt to handle advance cases MUST be provided with breathing apparatus, independent air. It is airborne, no doubt. In an aircraft the air is changed every few minutes and the super-heated bleed air coming from the engine will be virus free, but in a typical stuffy hospital ward the recirculating ceiling fan is nothing more than the devil's spoon stirring the deadly soup. I repeat again, Medics throughout Nigeria should step up their game because this opponent will kill swiftly without mercy. 27 medics dead out of 729 is a terribly high proportion. That is 1 medic dead in every 25 casualties. Africa does not produce health workers in anything like this ratio. At this rate the health system will simply collapse and with it data, knowlege and the experience badly needed to halt this menace. |
What a waste at a time of dire need for military personnel. The government should trace their relations and demand a refund of its investment on those two gone bad. |
Pesuzok: I am still trying to understand, it thought its when the symptoms appear that it becomes contagiousHow can. Symptoms only occur when the body's defences are being overwhelmed. As long as your white (defensive) cells can cope you will never know but the ebola virus is able to block, lock down or consume white cells while rapidly multiplying. Your only chance of survival is early detection before organ damage. So you can transmit the virus immediately you get it. It all depends on contact. Early stage - blood - harder, late stage - even sweat and breath (I believe) - much easier. |
jesuslovesme123: Everything you have said is correct. That is why the disease is a tricky one to contain, and why we have to adopt "ridiculous" preventive measures - such as limiting physical contact and advise your family members to do the same. If your family membets are observing the measures, you shouldn't worry too much about touching them. If you have a baby in daycare, you shoild find out what sanitary measures the daycare is taking.Worry more about adults. The silver lining about this pandemic is that right from the 60's it has been known as a disease of adults. Minors have a disproportionately low infection rate. In fact studies have begun as to why. Are there certain cells they have or don't have, could the redundant effects of childhood immunization protect them...the jury is out but as we all know of viruses, they are proficient at adapting, experts at survival. So caution is the word. |
dozzybaba: Patrick Sawwyer was very selfish...he lied he didn't come in contact with his sister and allowed health officers to come in contact with him without taking adequate precautionary biosafety measures. Now look what we have here. And many Nigerians will lie to their convenience, not only Sawyer. They will lie at the ports of entry. They will lie to avoid quarantine. They will lie out of desperation to get treatment. This is a big problem. That is why I told a doctor recently that EVERY clinic and hospital MUST prepare to screen EVERYONE that walks through its gates BEFORE admitting them for consultation even emergencies. They must all begin to build containment facilities and begin to set aside funds for full bio-protection kits. Till date and even in this report no one has been able to document and determine how these medical personel catch this virus even when most of them were experienced and some fully protected. If the situation is just touch and go then there is real trouble. My advice in view of this lacuna: The virus is most likely airborne and not just in bodily fluids thus full body, non porous protection with breathing apparatus. Medical personel should optimize the time spent with each patient. ALL protective gear should be incinerated immediately after use. Nothing should be reused except irridiation facilities are available. Medical personel must step up personal hygiene. Multiple change of personal clothing, trimmed nails, hair that can be washed multiple times daily thus no attachments or make up. It is that critical. The cost of all these leaves only the government able to handle ebola cases for now. Privates should only isolate. This was the mistake First Medical made and they are paying the price. I hope they all survive. |
Those suits worn in that pic if representative are full bio suits. That is far more serious than the fluid to soft tissue transmission which they claim is the current suspected transmission status. And with even doctors dropping like flies I am dead certain this virus is airborne as well. And if it is we have a scourge of potentially biblical proportions, the kind that ended Egypt as s super power and together with WW1 and WW2 has kept Europe's population low, I.e. The Bubonic Plague. |
I spoke with staff of a number of private clinics/hospitals and was amazed that some have not had a single clinical meeting specifically to address this matter since the crises broke. Others are at a loss as to how to handle the situation if and when the evil wind blows their way. Just not good enough. It is ignorance that kills more. Folks we need to step up. |
AkinEgba: A colleague of mine is returning from Liberia this month. I am not yet sure how to receive him at the office.Your office should subject him to mandatory testing and only when proven clean should he be permitted to return. Individuals, companies and the private sector should all play their part and not just sit, wait and blame government. Information and rapid action is critical and am afraid your company is not showing much positivity. You should have no staff in that country since yesterday. By the time you guys act the borders may already be closed. Too much lethargy. |
tete7000: But it was not said his case got to that advanced stage when he passed through the airport. It probably didn't go beyond the fever stage before detection. The health workers who were in touch with him at the later stage of the disease are the ones likely to be of grave concern. My thought though.Having gone through a lot of literature on this I feel there are still gaps in our knowlege of how this virus is spread. Until that is done the virus will continue to slip through the preventive web. I think it is critical to interview those few who were infected but fortunate to survive exactly what they did. We need precise details of their activities. For one there is a current debate as to whether it can be spread in aerosol. To me this is lacuna may be a fatal flaw. The difference between life and death in the weeks and months ahead is knowlege. |
gulfer: Please what about the nurses, cleaners and fellow patients at the time of his admissionThe hospital was shut down as soon as the Liberian man was identified and all those in contact quarantined. I don't think they admitted any patients after that and I don't think the doctor will have made unguarded 'contact' with anyone since. Anyway with early detection the viral load should be low enough to curtail spread and give him a shot at survival. The virus cannot survive without a host for long anyway. I think Nigeria is on top of the situation but people should expect as much from themselves as they do government. From the immigration officers who may be tempted to exchange cash for diseased entry to the meat sellers, say no to the munching of rats, cats and gaddem bats....which crazy a.r.sed nigga eats bats. |
berem: The most annoying part is there's no awareness campaign about the Ebola Virus on our TV stations. The awareness is only on social media. Its on radio 24/7 and they've been spamming my phones steady as if I eat those gaddem bats. Who eats bats.... |
This is what you get when Africans sit to eat. Eat this, eat that, eat everything under the sun. Eat rats, eat monkeys, eat hedgehogs, eat, eat eat. Who in this wide world eats gaddem bats.... |
barcanista: The bold is so insincere. Beneficiaries of Jonathan are Jona's boys and appointees. I can say it anywhere, Ijaw Nation has not benefited from Mr. Jonathan's RegimeThat is the benefit of the GEJ presidency as I indicated years ago on this forum and I repeat again. 'When a peoples realise that in a democracy salvation does not lie in one person, one office, no matter how highly placed such as the Presidency they will look elsewhere hopefully to the better option of self actualization, the the peoples begin to come together to work out their salvation. It happened in the west under OBJ. It is happening in the south-south under GEJ and maybe the South-east and other regions. That's why it is important for ALL peoples to taste the seat of the President so they may see the futility in building their aspirations on it. Nigeria's problems are Nigerian and can only be solved by Nigerians not one man. If countless military regimes with absolute power couldn't it shows that solutions are only found in consensus. |
jajajaja828: Whenever people open their mouth they will talk rubbish. If their is spill in ogoniland. D big question is WHATS THE CAUSE OF THE SPILL. 95% of the spills there is sabotage( third party interference) how can people be call shell for a spill that is been cause be community at their backyard. Why can't they hold nnpc responsible the way they complain abt shell just bc nnpc is government. You can shout sabotage for all you want but as long as you donot have conclusive proofs on a case by case basis that can hold up in a court of law, am afraid it remains maximum liability to Shell. Big rewards come with big risks. Be it airplanes falling from the sky or trains de-railing, companies cannot simply Pontius Pilate. I think Shell and others have enjoyed too much government protection for too long and it has made them cocky and sloppy and the PIB which it and its co-travellers resist till tomorrow will sort out this mess. |
I just don't get it. When Lucifer messed up the whole world with sin God sent Jesus Christ to save us not ordering Satan to remediate the situation. What the heck are Ogoni people still doing with Shell. Reboot and move on please. |
Uchwilliam: The case is different in naija.here graduates are ready to work but no work.Hmm. What a fallacy. But why do I see jobs everywhere with no takers. |
Alishachris: dozzybaba, its because the guy has since found our that Nigerians are pathetic tribal bigots and lazy denizens with amnesia. No matter how silly all these excuses sound, you would always have people who would support him. GEJ for now is invincible! Not true. If a pop-poll is conducted today I doubt if GEJ will exceed 40%. He is and has been the most criticized leader since independence. People are opposing no doubt so don't blame his supporters because every leader has some support. We don't need every single Nigerian to oppose him for things to work or a new leader to emerge. I think the problem with Nigeria is just the dearth of ideas, critical thinking across board that maintains the gap between our challenges and solutions on a wide variety of issues. You see a lot of complaints and criticisms offered but very few solutions and when you cannot out think your challenges it emboldens them. Unfortunately most Nigerians cannot rise above the quality of leaders they have. |
Pavore9: What of those that use campgas type? Most students use it to cook in their rooms. And the last time I checked people 'camp' outdoors. Where have you seen a gaddem camp inside a house.....hahahahaha. |
realbee: Hmm interesting... do they have the cure? Or do they have any ebola treatment centre already set up in U.S? I feel Ebola might be a western lab experiment gone wrong, its another opportunity for them to come out and provide medicine as 'aids' or 'grants' to Africa in return for our resources like they always do. HIV is no longer doing the magic, Ebola has to come. I wonder if Africans have not been eating bush meat for generations without any major incident, I just wonder.....Just stay away from the gaddem rats and bats. What kind of sick a.s.s meat is that. |
And here we have undergrads complaining they do not have a thesis subject. Here's one for future economists titled: "The Origins of Poverty". All the data and refs are here. |
JerryJJZ: The tried sha but that is not a permanent solution. The pic below should be implemented to avoid transmission of any sort. Beware No kissing, no shaking, no sharing of food. And no eating of funny creatures all in the name of bush meat like some prehistoric civilisation. Who in a right state of mind eats goddam bats for heavens sake. Africa dey tire person sef. |
AdeniyiA: chaiii....so much for a reactive govt, even dead body sef go suffer for Ebola sakeGood development. All these dead body worshippers who want to kill us all should take note. Bury your 'soldiers where they fall', period. |
Normality: I curse that Liberia man that brought this Ebola to Lagos. I bet he knew he has the diseasen but was on a mission to bring it to Nigeria, as their papa so we'll have to pay attention and help. Why not blame those who aided his arrival. The embassy in Liberia under whose nose the disease ravages, the aviation ministry, immigration services, quarantine services and the horde of government licensed extortionists at our borders who will rather listen to Davido on their radios, watch Nollywood on their tellies and ping their lives away on their phones than gather, analyse and activate information that is freely available on a crises that started as far back as last year. People are truly perishing for lack of knowledge and greed. And die they will. |
tonididdy: Fever keUna too dey waka. Stay for ya kontri, no. Una like import export business so why virus no go dey manifest. Embassy be una second house, why virus no go get ambassador to Naija. |
Oil is business. We don't need government in business. Close that damn cankerworm called NNPC yersterday. |
