Nihilist: Then maybe this an indictment on that approach, no?
Sure. I'm always for dialogue. I believe any form of violence is an indicment on the parties involved.
Crime › Re: "Why I Hacked My Lawyer Father To Death" – Student by Reference(m): 7:42pm On Jul 09, 2014
Nihilist: Without understanding the full story, then you are not in a position to determine what is an 'appropriate response' to the father's alleged assault.

If it is true that the father bit him, then I suspect that there is deeper history of abuse that we are not aware of.

That being said, actually hitting a 21 year old man in the name of 'discipline' is enough to trigger an extremely aggressive response especially if recurrent.

Looking at it critically, what right does the father have to hit the son in question? Could the father have hit a random errant 21 year old man in the street in the guise of 'discipline' without fear of retaliation?

The father had no respect for the son and did not consider him an adult, possibly because the son as a student was still dependent on him financially and otherwise.

Imagine a scenario where the son lived alone and was self-reliant. Even if the son defied his father's instructions in this scenario, do you think the father would be as inclined to physically beat his son for disciplinary reasons?

I'm not saying that the son is right for killing him, but it is possible to push people so far, and they end up doing things they regret in the red mist of anger...
In Africa a child remains a child no matter what happens. In christianity a child remains a child no matter what. Here children donot kill their parents because provoked, even with violence. That's why the universal shock and awe. As for the dad's violence, it is more common. Wrong but not entirely surprising.

Nihilist: You obviously have no justification for the father's alleged physical abuse of the son...

Only an idiot would describe BITING as an act of 'discipline'
True. No one can justify it and like I said earlier all I can see are the products of failed parenting. People tend to violence when dialogue fails. He obviously couldn't reach his son and his son couldn't reach him. Bad parenting but even if he had no parents at all, this is a crime the whole society, our society considers a taboo. How could this have happened. Kids in Nigeria have no rights, no protection, no liberties whatsoever under the law. Where did he learn this.
Crime › Re: "Why I Hacked My Lawyer Father To Death" – Student by Reference(m): 7:09pm On Jul 09, 2014
Nihilist: I see you keep avoiding the son's claim that the father BIT him....

And who are you to determine how the man in question should respond to being physically abused?

Would you be making this idiotic statements if a girl(or boy for that matter)who was being sexually abused by her father picked up a knife and stabbed her abuser?

If the perp in question is telling the truth about his father assaulting and actually BITING him, then your brain should tell you that this probably was a spontaneous eruption of pent up aggression rover several years of enduring some horrific abuse...

I mean what sane father bites his own offspring? Especially a 21 year old man?

I'm sure you must have been beaten and bitten so hard as a child, and you are consequently suffering from advance Stockholm Syndrome
Why are you so aggressive to the lady my man. Let us be tolerant to each others views and correct without anger. It is a very sad story and everyone is trying hard to understand how it could possibly happen. Good, compassionate ideas and advice could save someone's life tomorrow you know.

As for the boy's report on the bite et al, I would expect him to defend and justify himself with all the allegations he can muster whether true or otherwise. The only other witness is dead, forensic science is lost on our police force so we will never know the absolute truth bt even if the SAN bit him after coming against him with an 'eba stick', I hardly think a 21 year old boy will view that as a threat to life that will necessitate a retaliatory strike with deadly force in self defence.

crusader01: What is happening has nothing to do with the Private christian unversities. Most of their students attend the school for the purpose of rehabitation. Some are brought in from abroad to those schools for God's divine intervention that is why CU is known for strict rules and regulation to help them shape their lives.
Exactly. Its like saying, why are there so many broken down vehicles in an auto garage......because they were brought there to be fixed silly. And that's why the church has to be very wise in striking a balance between keeping bad fruit (with the risk of polluting others) and performing their mandate of rehabilitating bad people. I don't envy them because you can only try. No man can save another except God is ready and sends his Spirit to intervene. For the SAN it didn't happen and I'm very sad for them. They came to the right place but it didn't happen for them. Such is life. Not everyone of us will get away with our mistakes.

adewaleh: Assuming the guy don do JAMB tire before entering that school, maybe he would have gained some senses.
Too bad for a person brought up by a christian parent to be so wayward, he should face the punishment.. God save us from evil people.
Make no friend with an angry man, with a furious man thou shalt not go..
Yes, Christian parent but when. When did the SAN actually become a bible believing and actuated christian, I would speculate long after the boy was 'set in his ways'. Same for some of us whose parents came into the full gospel in mid age, fortunately for me we were born into 'straight jackets' not because of church or anything like that but as a matter of principle. That's why I always say it doesn't take a christian or church goer to do what is good. Knowledge is universal and if applied produces results anywhere. My take is that the parents rather leaned on the church to 'care for the kid' and since the church cannot give anyone personal attention the boy merely slipped through the cracks.

Ishilove: I completely agree. Let them look at the horrible matter from all angles. But come to think of it, how many drug addicts have you heard murdered their parents?? huh
My dear, there was an angry exchange (words) and it degenerated to violence (actions) and this is the result. Anybody raised with a sense of entitlement will always degenerate to do stupid things. I won't speculate but the evidence is clear. He was brought up that way. The confidence, the bravado, the 'you can do and damn the consequences' are not software we get at birth.

Ishilove: @Op, this story just dey pain my body. I have a friend who has a younger brother with these traits. The boy is full of wickedness and stubborness, and he has even raised a cutlass agains his own elder brother (my friend) and left a scar on his face. The boy's mother has taken him out for several deliverance sessions, but nothing yet. It has gotten so bad that whenever their mother is going out in the morning, she hides all sharp implements in the house so that she wouldn't come back from work to hear stories that leave the eyes misty.

Where do all these demonic children come from sef? huh
They come from failed parenting am afraid, nothing more. There is no such thing as a demon of disobedience. Actions comes from the mind and the seat of the mind is the soul which is clean and clear, set to default for every baby born. What parents do with it is entirely up to them. The mind is not programmable/re-programmable by prayer anyway but by words and images, the Word of God and the images of what is right (as exemplified by the parents living right) aka testimony.

There are also a lot of reasons couples will want in laws around them but cannot openly express them. Just a couple:

The marraige got off to a very bad start and all the wedding smiles are not real perhaps due to entrapment or whatever. The lady finds herself in a position where she needs 'cover' in case of....so she needs an extra pair of eyes, ears and possibly hands. Or know I'm full of trouble. My mouth contains more venom than a puff adder so I expect world war 3 regularly. Who won't want Seal Team 6 in the next room commanded by Captain mommy....and of course bring the dog as well for equal measure.

The lady or man is highly 'inexperienced' in domestic responsibilities. She is a grown Barbie or he is Ken. They know next to nothing so they need mommy to fill in the blanks. 'Ken, this is how to treat a lady....., Barb, that's not how to make toast. Well want do you want, a six month crash course or a two year diploma in kitchenomics. In the mean-time son in law makes do with mommy in law's cooking. Married to who again. Wonder, when we are getting married older and older each passing decade.

smileandlove: . Don't sit there and type rubbish . You don't know what the future holds for you. My father inlaw is a Dr but he was bed ridden for years I had to bring him to stay with me and I still let him express himself. Without him maybe I won't have a husband. And I espect my children to do same to
And think well before you post. I know the context in which the poster is speaking so don't use extreme examples. A bedridden fellow will not exact a dynamic psychological toll on a host family but a live, kicking person who comes to your home to do 'nothing' is not a positive influence at all. I have sympathy for the former not the later at all. Go to many homes and you find people just hanging around simply because they are comfortable and heavily subsidised so they find nothing else to do. Most of these relationships exact heavy tolls on marraiges and often end negatively so don't bring the ill person example here, they are in the minority.

And the part of your father in-law expressing himself means what. Explain.

Indolence, idleness, sloth....killing Nigeria since 1960. What will make a grown woman leave her work, profession, business, venture, dream, aspiration, vision, passion and go sit down in another man's house. That's why poverty and depravity will never leave us. Where do we get these nonsense culture anyway. When the couple goes off to work, what will she be doing....watching telly. 50calibre: Israel is above any form of reproach or international law, their oppression of Palestine has continued unabated.

Israel has always been heavy handed in their retaliations.

Human rights organisation and the so called super powers are wilfully blind to israel's atrocities. The US's double standards and age long pandering to the Jewish state, won't allow her speak out and as for the British, they are mere puppets of America, kept under a tight leash, they have no opinion or views of their own, they only echo what Washington says.
Even if America does nothing there are many other countries and millions of people that will rise in support of Israel. The fact that America supports them makes these people redundant. Don't for a minute think its only America. And with the global islamic insurgency underway this number continues to grow. There is fast becoming a polarisation of the world between west and east (and I mean arabia).

Boss13: Assessment of Fashola's Administration

Promises with no implementation. Talk, talk and more talk. Finally, blame state government ineffectiveness on the federal government.
Government is supposed to be a continum. All the problems of Lagos or Nigeria cannot be solved in one administration of 8 years. The problems did not take 8 years to crystallise. Rome or London or indeed the States was not built in a day. A policy is like a seed of an idea. It is expected to grow to feed generations after. That's what makes governance much easier than we struggle with in Nigeria. You benefit from your predecessor and those coming after you benefit from you. That's what makes Lagos state the success it is today. Tinubu sowed a good seed and much of Fashola's achievements were sourced there. Fashola too needs to sow one for the future. We africans should grow beyond the 'chop and quench' attitude. Everyone knows the LASG doesn't have the funds to effectively implement it today but do you wait till you can afford it before you start.

FDenigma: I politely disagree. JOHESU is a recent amalgamation of strange bedfellows whose only uniting bond is an inferiority complex directed at doctors.

Even within their ranks, they still tussle over who is "superior" (pharmacist better than Physio better than nurse, etc) as if that is what matters.

Most doctors didn't even know the union existed until they went on strike and locked up medical records and instruments. When doctors heard their absurd demands, they laughed...until FG approved all of them.

Unfortunately, as "underdogs", they seem to have public sympathy but let's call a spade a spade without emotions or "beef".
Yes because the public views this as an 'internal' matter that should be sorted out within the medical community rather than letting out all the dirty linen to offend our noses. What irks people the most is that the much respected doctors are seen in a rofu rofu, shirt tearing, mudslinging fight with their supposed houseboys and housegirls. The question now is how much lower can these guys get. Haba.

Love others just as you will love yourself. You can't tell me the woman won't bathe, sleep, eat and clothe. So how about sharing with the baby or begging for both yourselves. Was she leaving to go commit suicide. Think not. She ran away to protect her dignity, preserve her image and left her baby with none. Is that love. That is heartless whether you admit it or not. There are far better options.

iwonbaoko: By nature human beings compare themselves to others. No one wants to feel inferior or cheated.Take my young lad you place a plate of food in front of him and what does he do ,eat? No! he starts looking to see what everyone else has got. OH his big brother has "TWO MEAT" why does he have "ONE MEAT" and so he starts Aluta, at that age imagine!! His mothers say "sorry" she carries the food to the kitchen takes the meat and cuts it into four pieces and returns it to him he is placated, smug even.He starts taunting his big brother . That is the story of our young people who want to have DEGREES "by force" and so now you have 1000 students occupying what was designed for 50-100. They come out with degrees but will soon realize their degrees are not worth anything they have many pieces of "small meat". Protesting will not change much . If people protest too much government will just leave them with their extra meat illusion but the employers know better.

The rich people send their children abroad with some getting Masters degrees at the ages of 21 22 23. They have ONE MEAT but it is a very big one indeed. It is not a level playing field;most people are in the middle of snarling traffic whilst you have another lane like BRT lane for a few. Government alone cannot fund university education Even if government can only afford to pay for 50000 so be it let those 50000 be of the best quality, the biggest meat. This idea that it should be a free for all is simply not sustainable
