aribisala0: No you should not forget. But you can either find a way to move on or start another war.If we decide to revisit the history there are many versions and there will never be agreement of whose version is more accurate. War is not a football game and Ojukwu must have known the consequences of his declaration ; defeat was ALWAYS going to be devastating. We all know what led to it but was his option the solution ? We can argue that till Ojukwu resurrects but if you go to war you cannot then turn around and say the enemy played dirty. That is naive when you are fighting for your existence NOTHING is dirty. LESSON: Don't go to war unless you will win.Hmm, I just laugh. Everyone is still paying for the unfinished business of 1966-7. You think you have a country. Just look around you and think again. You think it is a black thing. Ask John Kuffor who's the daddy today. I laugh. |
Yeah, yeah. But did the Nigerian government do what the allies led by the United States did in Europe in the aftermath of the second world war and uptil today, no. They rather did what the axis powers led by the Soviets did. And where are the Soviets today. If OBJ thinks he knows world history, some of us feast on it. Let him know that the primary driver of the second world war in europe was the malicious treaty of Versailles the terms of which sought to grind germany into the ground but only succeeded in stoking anti-european, nationalistic passions. Let him read hard and know that it cost 40million lives for the victors to know how to handle their so-called victory. Did they repeat the mistake in Japan in 1946, no. Nigeria hasn't learnt anything. |
This is the prime rivalry of the next five years. They've both sent Fedex a clear message: No more vacancy on top. |
Oh, oh. The Joker has just hammered the Brit. Okay Scottish red riding hood. |
J12: It seems like you started watching football in 2009, thats why you're wankìng over Iniesta.Kai, kai, kai. Compare what to what. Henry to the mighty Raul Gonzalez, a legend and top marksman at the 9-time european champions. Leading champions league hitman. (hope that midget hasn't dethroned him). Kai, kai, kai. |
ballabriggs: Kanu has an Olympic gold as captain of the team and a silver at AFCON. That is what makes him really notable in Africa. So we agree. You cannot discount international tourneys, trophies and experiences. That's why Mboma will trail Yekini and the Hassan's will trail Weah. In FIFA's reckoning you've got to be the best regional team to attend a global competition and in club football scouts tend to get it right when they select the best players to export. How come they overflew Hassan and landed in Mama Weah's lowly compound.? when Egypt to Europe is 1 hour by flight. |
ballabriggs: Kpakol no get title with the national team that is the difference.Aha, aha, aha. Which title Kanu get. No be international title. Kanu don win cup for Africa. But who know Kpakol even when BCC dey on fire. |
I think the period in time has coincided with the era of unprecedented all-round global success of African players. The truth remains, the best football has been played in Europe for over half a century. In that time we had exceptional African players plying their trade there but they were few and their careers short because the left late. The Abegas, Milla's, Madjers, even the Bwalya's. In the nineties with the establishment of age grade soccer players left much younger and grew to have polished, exceptional skills. They spent on average 5 to 10 years longer than the previous generation and so won more things, grew wealthier and influencial. They are the face of african football in europe. Unfortunately many are at the end of their careers or have gone - the Kanu's, Drogba's and Eto's. They are the golden age of african football characters. |
Irunmole: Sadok Sassi Atouga - Goalkeeper. Tunisia. All, local champs. How they would have fared against other tongues, styles, coaches, no one knows so can't be compared. |
ballabriggs: That you do not know him says a lot about your knowledge of the game in Africa. All na Africa naa. If you want to rate the best Nigerian player then even Moses Kpakol of BCC Lions will rank above Kanu because as far as Africa and Nigeria is concerned Kanu no near am. |
Ibrahim mr fish: Yankari game reserve is in Buachi, and people 4m other countries are going there all d time,so an airport is a very good idia.Yankari game reserve cannot pay for that airport. That's the truth. How many times have you visited there and how much have you spent there. Is it even your personal priority. Mine is power for my business and home, cheap goods and a safe transit from point A to B. If government can do these for me then perhaps there would be change to go Yankari, then I want my airport. Only then. |
billante: Every state in nigeria needs an airport! I hav always been saying this...those calling it a misplaced piority should shut up.And am saying that the aviation industry remains elitist and unaffordable by tie vast majority of people. Airports are not exactly bursting at the seams to warrant a scattering at least not at the scale we love to build them. But check our expressways crying for investment. Chuck ablock with trucks and commuters, crashing cars, tumbling tankers. You simply cannot say your top dollar goes to tourism infrastructure when you lose billions locally to other pressing needs. Dangote, MTN scream day in day out about what government should be investing in. They don't listen. Now they put money in what quite frankly no one cares about. |
There is nothing wrong in an airport itself but it is certainly not my idea of development. What Bauchi and Nigeria needs is investment in either commercial or social infrastructure (the former, a better starting point). Invest first in what people badly need and will pay good money for - rail, power, etc. Then use the proceeds to invest in social infrastructure - things people need but are unwilling or unable to pay for - health, education. Am afraid, an airport for Bauchi is not a mass market investment, it will hardly be able to generate funds to sustain itself and so over time will become a money pit until the Feds come in. If he badly wants to fly from home a simple airfield for light aircraft will do. Then he lets the thing grow and develop organically. If I were him what I would do with 7 billion is to sit around a table with guv's forum and the Feds and propose a revival of the rail system to evac. my farmer's products and my solid minerals cheaply by creating a spur off the northern line to my state. The development that positively impacts the majority of people is first and biggest priority. |
J12: Mboma(and Geremi) was the most influential player in the Cameroonian team during his time and he won more titles for his team than Yekini. He also scored better goals than Yekini. Yekini's goals are mostly tap-in's, even Yakubu scores better goals. But what happened in Europe. Yekini was top scorer for his portugese club for two seasons and a leading marksman in Portugal and in so doing taking a modest Vitoria Setubal to the UEFA (now Europa) cup. Scored Nigeria's first goal at the world cup in a team regarded as the tournament's most entertaining (not for Amokachi's dance moves though) |
Sagamite: I would put skills/ability above throphies anyday.Assessments are compounded. Sum of averages. You may do badly in one and exceptionally well in others and still fail or end up on top of the pile. It depends. Why I don't do skill is because it is part art, part technique, highly subjective. Not appreciated equally worldwide. |
CAMEROONPRIDE: I'm crying actually, so you mean the guy won't make history despite everything he made for this continent? We are Africans before everything, transcontinental exploits shouldn't count that much when judging our players.C'mon dude. Let's be honest. Who wouldn't have wished for George Weah in his team anyday. You'd have gladly exchanged him for Patrick. Country cheated Weah. Club cheated Mboma. Not fair world eh. In terms of football would you rate FC Liberia to AC Milano. Not fair. No contest. |
pword: To me the way i late players is neither club nor national team performance,i late a player according to his individual performance.Thats why i suggest that Jay Jay Okocha supposed to come second after Samuel Eto'oWrong, wrong. The way I would rather rate players is this: Trophies (in accordance with tournament viewing attendances), Impact (the percentage of team success attributable to you), Longevity (the number of years we've enjoyed watching you perform at top level) and if there remains a tie, personal stuff such as skill, character, and all the petty stuff we quarrel about. That's why I chose to ignore the mention of Yaya Toure and others. They are still at their peaks and can either chose to do better or end it regretfully. |
CAMEROONPRIDE: their stats look quite similar. You cannot just rule out transcontinental exploits. Without that 75% of those on the list won't be there. I really feel for Patrick. Was a great striker. Just didn't have the luck of foreign exploits. George Weah never won anything in Africa yet he rates miles ahead of Hosam Hasan who's got 3 or is it 4 Nation's Cup medals. Is it fair. No. But that is life. |
CAMEROONPRIDE: you kidding right? Nothing special? Check Afcon2000/2002/2004.Why it is difficult to rate Camerounian players in tournaments is that the Lions have always been more of a solid unit than a collection of skilled individuals such as the Nigerian, Ghanian or Ivorian team. That is why Camerounian soccer isn't doing too well now. The skills are still there but team cohesion and solidarity is lost due to well documented problems. Thus if you want to rate individual players you just have to look at their impacts abroad. Eto in Spain, Italy, the goalies in France and Spain, etc. |
mikky2k2: u forgot mido, zaki and amr of egyptThen half of Africa will be included. You just cannot ignore the transcontinental impact soccer success brings. That's why Odegbami is rated so low. |
CAMEROONPRIDE: why barca ,which era? Song has always been a starter so I don't get your point. As for UCl its all about luck you know . Ronaldo the Brazilian never won the UCL , but he is the best striker in the world.Barca, because that's his present club and perhaps the last and only chance at glory. If he can't cut it there then we honestly can't rate him amongst the very greats. Life is about making use of opportunity not just getting there. |
CAMEROONPRIDE: I still can't believe you guys let PATRICK MBOMA outLongevity and lack of comparable success out of Africa. |
CAMEROONPRIDE: aren't you pushing the hate too farYes. He was an irreplaceable defensive stalwart for Bayern for many years and an UCL winner. Let's see if Song can make first team at Barca while winning things then he may surpass. |
Completely agree both in presence and ranking. Spot on Sag. |
I don't think those accusing the President are fair. Since he came in he has reduced what was hitherto a regional movement to group of diehard insurgents. Now that their leadership has been put away what do we expect, a shake down of course. They've been systematically filed down but they are sharper and will still do a heck more damage but to say people are about to rise up against other peoples is quite frankly untrue. There is no evidence to support that. |
Orikinla: . This is the worst government in Nigeria since the civil war ended. I am more concerned about the over 80% of the population who have no where to escape to in another civil war. The rich can always fly their families overseas to safer countries. My own family is already safe, but I will have no other choice but to stay behind to defend the security and unity of Nigeria for the safety of the poor masses. Another civil war in Nigeria will be worse than the last one. The north is already ruined. This is not a civil war. MEND is simply asking for the release of its people. Who does MEND represent, you. Who has come out openly to say MEND represents me. So how is this a civil war. |
Can't wait for the party to begin. A weakened military fighting on three fronts - north, south, diaspora. A weakened economy to fuel it when oil production is cut. I wish just 1% of those threats can be executed. This country is in dire need of a shake down. |
But its by far not the grandiest big daddy of them all. Airforce One is built on a 747-200 chasis which is over 35 years old. I learnt one of those Arabian Sheikhs, Emirs or Sultaan (forgotten who precisely) has ordered a customised Airbus A380 complete with gold plated lavs, a swimming pool, limousine garage and a personal elevator. The only problem the folks at Airbus have is the weight of the tiles in the Turkish bath as his Highness insists on the real thing, no make-belief substitutes, making meeting the maximum take-off weight limits a real tall order. The price ??. Perhaps a couple of oil wells pumping for six months. |
manny4life: Mid air refueling is what it is - it can refuel at 30,000ft. Preferably, C-130 tanker plane extend their pipes at that certain speed and altitude and begin pumping fuel. This process is very delicate and requires precision in its execution. Most fighter jets refuel in mid airThe air-tankers are KC-35's an aging fleet to be replaced shortly (that battle is raging between Boeing and Airbus). But they typically drop airspeed and thus altitude to between 10 and 20 to engage. What I would like to know is who is in charge of security once on board, the Secret Service or the Airforce cos I assume once on board all firearms borne by civilians must be under lockdown. |
But I thought the great ol US of A was the birth place of the stretch limo, the mighty Packards and boy just look at Obama's Lincoln. I understand that thing can soak up 100 pounds of TNT. C'mon fellas, this guy is a tech billionaire. The street is his jungle. The day he manufactures drones, pharmaceuticals or semi-conductors is the day the FBI will take him off the streets. Its not just about who you are and what you do for a living but how strategic is your well-being. Like during the subsidy debate, I asked the question, could Nigeria afford to take the cabal out. Can you afford a Dangote or Adenuga incident. Look at what happened to the banking sector when Sanusi swept through. Ifeanyi Uba caused fuel scarcity for weeks while he battled AIK. If Sergy Brin gets mugged what is the impact compared to our few, far between and ultimately more strategic big men operating in a worse jungle. Yes, the blackman is full of useless pride but that's not the whole story. |
[quote author=peace-1][b]GOOD ONE BUT THIS IS HOW IT WORKS.MOST OF THE OVER $24BILLION DOLLARS EXPENDED BY THE OBASANJO ADMINISTRATION ON POWER IS YIELDING FRUITFUL RESULTS AS WE ALL KNOW IT TAKES BETWEEN 5-10 YEARS FOR THE DIVIDENDS TO SHOW UP. HOWEVER,THE CONSPIRACY NIGERIANS AREN'T AWARE IS THAT,NOW THAT MOST OF THE GENERATING,TRANSMITTING STATIONS AND DISTRIBUTION STATIONS ARE COMING UP,IT ALSO COINCIDE WITH F.G PLANS TO PRIVATIZE THE SECTOR.THE GRAMMAR IN SHORT IS THIS:PUBLIC FUNDS SPENT FOR POWER IMPROVEMENT AND SELL TO OFFOR,TINUBU,DANGOTE AND PDP COHORTS)TO ENJOY THE BENEFITS.NIGERIANS WILL SOON UNDERSTAND WHEN BETWEEN NOW AND NEXT YEAR, THE NIPP(F.G PROJECTS)WILL INJECTS BETWEEN 4000MW-6500MW INTO THE GRID AND ALL THESE FUNDS ARE PUBLIC MONIES.IT IS THESE ALSO BANKS LOANS WITH CBN APPROVAL)WILL ENJOY AND RIP OFF MY FELLOW COUNTRY MEN.I PRAY THAT NIGERIANS TAKES THEIR DESTINY IN 2015.THEY KILLED NITEL WITH SWEET AND COGENT REASONS YET THEY HAVE SHARES IN THESE COMPANIES(MTN,GLO,AIRTEL,ETISALAT). SAME IS HAPPENING IN PHCN BECAUSE THE TRUTH IS THAT THEY HAVE FAILED NIGERIANS BUT THE CAUSE LIES WITH THE F.G FOR NOT INVESTING ENOUGH IN THE PAST.WAKE UP PEOPLE,I AM IN THE SYSTEM AND I KNOW WHAT I AM SAYING.
