Did I hear him say "civilian deployment in peace time". Am I the only one that feels that our military is in a death struggle with militants in the south and insurgents in the north in which they are barely shadding it. Or was surveillance not part of that aircraft's role when Korean engineers were abducted not too far from where it crashed. Another sign these people are simply out of touch with the realities surrounding them. We have serious problems with the way we choose to live in this country. It is a pity the military has allowed itself to be dragged down into the pit of complacency while it is they who will be sent to fight and die without the needed tools and blamed if they fail. By the way, heard nothing from the man at the centre of the storm in my opinion - the infatigable Oronto Douglas. |
Not funny but useful. In the new era of free market fuel tow the okada line at the gas station no matter how long it is. The meter is least likely to be doctored. In traffic the outer lane is more likely to be occupied by scurrying commercial vehicles while the inner lane by L - plates and executives who take their time. Incidentally this is where vendors stay in the morning and muggers at night. |
Classicalman: Last year Access bank rewarded us with half bag of rice and 2 dozens of liquid peak milk. But this year they are giving each staff 10 packets of sugar each for christmas. What on earth do they want staff to do with sugar? Abi make we dey use am soak garri or they want to kill us with diabetes? Na wah o. |

afam4eva: What's the federal government's stake in this? I thought the Lagos state government owned the initiative. All international gateways are exclusively owned by the Feds, and that includes airports and will you believe it telecommunications just a few years ago. The same ideology that makes it impossible to own a private beach. Exclusive zones or whatever they call it. |
I'm not too sure this applies across all societies particularly close knit ones like ours where first line information traditionally comes mouth to ear rather than from the media particularly on life matters. I mean, I believe the average african man knows those adverts are not true and I would venture that they may even be addressed to the female folk particularly the younger ones. Is there really a normal Nigerian man above 20 that doesn't know this. |
Ha, ha. Dino the Pied Pipper. Now his fans have turned on him. I think he'd better churn out another story/scandal about Goldielocks and the three bears fast before you lot eat him alive. What's the big deal here. Every Senat and Rep can afford a Porsche. Aren't we paying them such scandalous wages. |
ogb5: That chicken is like maybe 1.5kg in weight and it is 1200 naira which is like 7.5 US dollars. This works out to be about 5 dollars per KG and people are saying it is cheap. C'mon are you comparing our handsome birds with your GMO frankenstein fowls that munch more steroids than Lance Armstrong. Good stuff don't come cheap. |
With all due respect why not save your time and energy and just place the bird aboard a naval helicopter. In ten minutes it will be dead, skinned and roasted. My two naira. No pun intended. Honest. |
skyfall: The Nigerian military has become so useless that their officers and expensive equipment have become errand tools in the hands of illiterate politicians. Of what use is Oronto Douglas to Nigeria that our naval officers are losing their lives over his late father's burial jamboree? You've just said it all. We have excruciating national security challenges requiring every single military and security asset we have and here we are frittering men and materials away on political joyrides. Am just so angry. |
Abeg... Who read this thing finish?! Biko, summarise in not more than 10 words..
Let me try. His life was on the up and up. Divine providence gave him a chance when he was retired but he dove into the murky waters of politics and the inevitable slide cumulating in the tragedy last weekend. Politics is such. Distances you from the realities that can catch one unawares atimes. |
I think Azazi's posture summarizes it all. People who have lost touch with almost all reality, just drifting. Deep in thought, wondering what he was doing there and how it all came down to that... a death sentence shortly to be executed. I tell you. All these things they die for are not worth it. When you go down you go alone. |
EasyG: A failed engine/engines in a chopper does not suffice to cause a crash. It is designed to remain in flight through auto rotation which every helicopter pilot is taught. The power turbine is disengaged from the main rotor gear box and the rotor blades continue turning due to inertia and the helicopter can be landed safely as soon as possible.Engine failure as used here is a generic term that could represent anything from loss of power to the complete disintegration of the power train. If for instance the bearings of any of the two rotors failed at high foward speed, I tell you nothing will save that aircraft. Auto-rotation is possible with only the least of engine failures. |
yomalex: Maintenance issuesNo. Corruption issues. Just did deeper, trace the history of that craft from purchase to date and I can bet my right arm that it was an accident waiting to happen. It always is. Always engine failure. |
First of all, why was the Nigerian Navy chopper being used to ferry people back and forth from a funeral that had nothing to do with the Nigerian Navy?!
This is exactly what I have been saying since Saturday at the risk of being tagged insensitive. The Presidency owes the Navy an unreserved apology for the deaths of those airmen. As for the politicians on board they have just committed suicide on the altar of our sordid culture of profilgacy and political correctness. Burial indeed. The Navy should charge them oh. If that aircraft had gone down battling militants or securing our territorial integrity then those pilots will be heros. Now where is the honour in this incident. Burial indeed. |
We are simply not a morally upright people. The average Nigerian is insincere at best and since society is shaped by numbers, it means the vast majority of Nigerians are doing the wrong things most of the time. |
Will they ever learn. Just sit down and do the job you were appointed or elected to do. But no. They must roam about doing the unneedful, playing politics with their lives as if it means nothing. Next... |
Good one there. When all the swag is worn he'll still be churning out the dough. Makes sense. |
oyb: naija peepsIphone 4 in boko checkpoint, airport road, abuja. And my pals were interested. Can you imagine. |
As soon as practicable (if I think I know what this means) says it all. Perhaps on the date 13-13-13. Corrupt people, corrupt nation. |
alaoeri: And the trophyless saga continues no wonder RVP left.Every single player that has left in the past 6 seasons has gone on to better things. This is the trend that is sapping the strength of the team. The players are high class. The coach just isn't. |
bar denied arsenalll. arsenalll outttttttttt
and Wenger should follow, out of the Emirates. A new all time low this is. |
I'm sure if not for the FA's iron fist against player/media interaction we would have a better picture as to what transpires in the Arsenal locker room and moreso in the players minds as to the problems besetting the team. Just wondering if Pat Rice got fed up with the whole thingy and took an early shower. |
Honest managers know when they can no longer motivate their staff and they leave. When they don't serious management removes them. Arsenal under Wenger peaked 5 years ago. Since then they have been on the slide. Better managers such as Jose and even Pep have experienced it in Chelsea and Barca and even at Madrid today. Wenger should just let go. This is diminishing returns at play. |
If the Gunners lose this match Wenger should just pack up and leave. |
The script is already written. United will win the league, Mancini will be sacked and the Special/Only One will be back for the next instalment of the never ending drama. Ha, ha. |
biodunid: And a govt that is intent on reducing cement prices allows this? Dangote is holding on to his 100% mark-up, pioneer (non taxpaying) status, power sector gas prices and other advantages yet has the mouth to complain about a little bit of competition and blackmail us all by shutting down Gboko and laying off workers? Maybe his bluff should be called: end the pioneer status (it was obtained by dubious means as we have been making cement locally for over 50 years) and let him pay industrial sector prices for gas (he is an industrial user and, again, dubiously obtained the power sector classification). Contracts? ALL contracts fail to the extent that they offend public policy / good. And return to massive importation with the consequent effects on your country's BOP and currency. We need more players not less. If you want to neutralise Dangote safely you need more local competition. That is where government(s) come in. |
Right. Dangote maybe in some anti-trust position with other manufacturers keeping prices up but government has to intervene to keep that factory open. We simply cannot afford job losses particularly in a sector we have total capacity. Government should raise import duties immediately. Nigeria first. |
His looks will be the first line on his rap sheet. |
So you guys can see that the problem in this country is essentially structural. The structural imbalances in this country has provided refuge for all sorts of intransigent social diseases from corruption to religious sanctioned genocide just like the rubbles of Stalingrad gave rise to the defeat of Germans in 1942. We are facing a grave scenario akin to 1965, 66 all over again. If the military is to fracture along sectional lines may the historians get it right this time around as to who lifted the axe. |
You've been building a house for 18 years haven't you. Then you wake up one day to ask the house whether it has a front door. I just wonder exactly what parents are doing these days and what parenting is all about. However just take a walk down the street and realise why these kinds of strange questions are being asked. |
