Mad Cow: FN FAL is a start!!
Haba. We've had enough trouble with that Belgian series. Its a good rifle but the strip is hard and it doesn't load reliably enough. Once again consider the whole package when your life hangs. One dust storm and your life is in question. Believe me. Anyway I like the feel of an AK. Its so light, all the weight you feel is the mag and as you expend ammo you can tell how much is left. Fantastic weapon.

abifoluwa: very very impressive i must say. but we need to change our gun o. bushmaster ar 15 is the way togo!!!
Forget that thing. When the heat comes you need a weapon that will work first and show off later. We're talking about a weapon that will work as well in rain, heat and mud with limited servicing. And when compared to the 7.62mm round, the BM essentially uses the lighter 5.56mm (NATO) round which is useless in our inventories, cannot be canibalized on most battlefields and the American military is planning to discard. The AK-47 is the jap mobile of the battlefield. Tough, cheap and proven.

'Random Factor' - Mark Tiedemann - 1978. Everything I've read and I mean everything from Uris, Forsyth, Ludlum, Clancy, you name it, pales into absolute insignificance. You simply cannot put this novel down. How I got a copy, I cannot remember. It was never officially published and after more than 15 years of searching cannot find it to buy. 50k for a legible copy.

By the way, I just hope the people in charge of monitoring the cost of these things are on their toes. It is not enough for the NA to say Aye out of sentiments. They should know how many tons of ordnance is proposed and how much kero will keep those Alpha's and Mil's flying. Was or is there any appropriation in 2013 for this campaign or is the cash coming from excess crude, reserves or sovereign wealth because Nigeria's economy isn't America's. The naira isn't even the reserve currency of West Africa.

gboss4sure: There is nothing like intl point scoring. Boko Haram has strong links with the terrorsit groups in Mali who supports them with weapons and trainings and our secret agents have been in mali even before now, so GEJ has to make sure that they are crushed in mali so that we can at least close one of their sources of their support leaving the one in algeria till we get the opportunity to help shut them down. I don leak small infor nw. So GEJ aint doing this just for political reason
I don't think you're calculating the cost/benefit ratio properly. Yes there is a temptation to nip the insurgency in the bud quickly but only if you think you have a 110% chance of success. Remember, you are fighting an ideology, not an army and these things tend to run on steroids.

Nigeria should not be the first one in but we should take time to layer our defences. Whatever is then left of our resources - men and means, we can offer when the combatants are war weary.

Am afraid of two things here. Mission creep as in Liberia to Serria Leone which our economy hasn't recovered from and religious infiltrations into our military. Foreign campaigns ALWAYS change militaries permanently.

Hmmm. More like tag team partners. Wrestlemania Africa unfolding. It was Libya's problem, Mali nosed in then it became Mali's problem then Nigeria rushed into the ring, now it is Nigeria's problem. With half of West Africa now in the ring don't expect the Malian badoos to fight fair.

That's why I prefer cage match-ups. Ref Ki-Moon, where art thou. This thing is out of hand.

Politics › Re: What Can Be Done To Curb Corruption In Nigeria? by Reference(m): 8:54pm On Jan 15, 2013
My only concern is that we may have crossed the point of no return to normality. We may officially have attained rogue status. How?

Last year alone, almost one trillion naira was stolen through the subsidy scam. Minus 1 trillion to the state that controls security, the judiciary, the armed forces, etc but +1 trillion to gangsters. If you total the losses through crude theft -25%, other schemes and official scams, black money out there may be in excess of our annual budget.

This is a clear and present threat to our national security if this black money is unleashed against government. It is not surprising then that government has not being able to handle insurgencies and other internal security challenges. Someone out there is simply paying better.

The longer corruption goes on, the more money changes over to the dark side, the more government loses its ability to control the affairs of this country. We don't just respect government because it upholds the law but because it has the means, the resources to uphold it. Am afraid that balance of power is draining fast.

kingingkinging: I want to respond not because you post story was reasonable but to make known your hidden agenda for writing this article.

1.Your two examples above are too shallow to make conclusion on any issue;
2.Ezogwu's coup was not totally successful has he was unable to achieve his aim, but such action in Ghana has a positive result Jerry Rawlings killed all the corrupt leaders and you can see Ghana today, a model country in Africa. Ghana is now a reference point of an ideal African setting.
3. Gen Buhari did not plan the 1983 coup and was not part of the coup but was invited to lead having discovered his good and faithful attitude in the Nigerian Army, a condition/ trait he displayed within the short period. He has a sheet, if not clean totally, that is better than others before and after him including the most corrupt of them GEJ-fuel susbsidy, pension, immigration,NNPC, etc.
4. You cannot do image laundry for GEJ, I voted for him so you are not in a better position to preach him to us. the truth is he is not cut out to lead. He is a faithful and good follower. He should support people who can lead. We are tired of people who are not really ready for leadership but got there by circumstance. Nigeria is a complex state and she needs a leader tah is intellectually capable of such.
5. It is only a dull person that will conclude that Nigeria is not utterly corrupt even the blind can feel it, we need serious minded person that will not be afraid of the Madueke's, Oteh's, Patience's,Faruoks, Otedola's, Ngozi's.
I therefore, put to you if a Ribadu as president or Buhari would not do better in fighting corruption. Pls be frank and objective.
See what I mean. We cannot even agree what corruption is and who is or is not corrupt. How then can you begin to tackle such a phantom. The average Nigerian defines corruption by the threshold of his or her moral standards and this varies from person to person. Every Nigerian thus has a break over point and consequently a pet corruption project he or her tacitly supports or patronises. We are just too hypocritical.

Once again I ask the question. Why is it that with 95% of our economy service driven we claim we donot have the facts of who does what dirty deals. Who processed Akingbola's cash transfers. Who handed Otedola the 600,000
dollars, who designed Orubebe's mansion, who served Otteh the N25,000 prawns, and on and on. Who? Ordinary, everyday folks, victims of the corruption they overtly or covertly abett.

Last year Labour was up in arms calling for the faceless fuel cabals they all know too well, pass them in the corridors everyday and assist in their product round tripping. Yet they live in denial, bankers live in denial, policemen, engineers, doctors, secretaries, the whole lot.

How can you stop corruption when the level of connivance is so deep that the real, honest economy is non existent.

FXKing2012: We need to understand what the Bible says about this to know whether it is bad or not.

1 Corinthians 11:1-10 (ASV)
1 Be ye imitators of me, even as I
also am of Christ. 2 Now I praise
you that ye remember me in all
things, and hold fast the traditions,
even as I delivered them to you. 3
But I would have you know, that the
head of every man is Christ; and the
head of the woman is the man; and
the head of Christ is God. 4 Every
man praying or prophesying, having
his head covered, dishonoreth his
head. 5 But every woman praying
or prophesying with her head
unveiled dishonoreth her head; for
it is one and the same thing as if
she were shaven. 6 For if a woman
is not veiled, let her also be shorn:
but if it is a shame to a woman to
be shorn or shaven, let her be
veiled. 7 For a man indeed ought
not to have his head veiled,
forasmuch as he is the image and
glory of God: but the woman is the
glory of the man. 8 For the man is
not of the woman; but the womani
of the man: 9 for neither was the
man created for the woman; but the
woman for the man: 10 for this
cause ought the woman to have [a
sign of] authority on her head,
because of the angels.

Now judge for yourselves whether it is right or not for a lady to cut her hair.
The key to your scriptural quote here is the word 'tradition'. Traditions are a function of climes and times so fall under scriptural precepts not laws. And thus are not sacrosanct but rather interpretable by the Holy Spirit. You simply cannot pass judgement on peoples views of traditions. Let those who practice them do so in wisdom.

I have watched the Nigerian team long enough not to rate their tournament chances based on these uncoordinated, meaningless friendlies that neither players nor their handlers are interested in.

It is in our blood never to take preparation seriously. Why will they want to overrun CV. What was the benefit to be.

When the tournament proper starts you will see stuttering performance which will give way to better play as we reach the semi's. After that its anyone's cup, to the team with the greatest desire.

We will do well. We may not win it but it will not be for want of trying. Just those silly blunders Nigerian teams are prone to.
Hahahaha, are you trying to say my parents were violent? Hahahahaha. I probably grew up in a family you could only imagine in your dreams. Hehehe. Rotflmao. Is it too hard for you Nigerian men to accept that a lady can be outspoken, communicate her feelings with her spouse and know what she wants? Well now, you met one. And you know what? Nothing happens. The guy is a teddy bear with me. Will even fight you outside if I insult you sef. Take note!
But you can never know what lies deep in your partner's mind. This is the problem discussed here. The fact that a man doesn't react or complain does not negate the fact that he is being abused or living in an abusive relationship.

Yes we take life insurance and wear seat belts but do we drive crazy, no. Anything can fail and any man can change.
Family › Re: Stop The Violence Against Men!!!! by Reference(m): 10:40am On Jan 10, 2013
freecocoa: shocked shocked shocked ha!

I never knew that helping your wife's immediate family is now a form of abuse, did they put a gun to the man's head to help them? I guess you are talking about a man without a mind of his own not men like my man or father, shioor.undecided
And how do you classify abuse. That's the problem in relationships, between gender and resulting from our very selfish nature as human beings. 0ne man's responsibility is another man's abuse.

The generic thinking says the other party should bear up in all aspects ranging from burdens, insults or fisticuffs. We know the threshold of pain we feel. Do we know that of our partner or we just make assumptions.

That is why the theory I came to accept a long time ago will stand forever and it says. 'Relationships, partnerships (business, social, matrimonial, etc) will only exist as long as one of the parties is prepared and willing to bend down and take it up the rear end'. (mind my expression).

Because there can NEVER be a balanced relationship. The other party can never feel what you feel so its pointless to cry out.

No hard and fast rule here because the activation code 'death' is non negotiable. Thus it will vary with the individual.

However I will suggest a will is made when the trajectory of a persons life is at the highest point attainable so that the will in itself doesn't constitute a clog in the wheel of progress.

Its like a bank account. The super rich and super poor don't need it just the aspiring and retiring.

Politics › Re: Is Dangote Really The Richest Nigerian??? by Reference(m): 9:27pm On Jan 06, 2013
Its all about evidence. Dangote is the richest by the facts presented to the assessors not speculation or rumours. That's why the bulk of those on any rich list will be chieftans of publically traded companies. Its also the reason why Americans dominated the list at one time. As the BRIC countries opened their books they too have moved up the list. Even wealthy Arabs are sparse due to lack of transparency with those mentioned having significant investment in the west.

IBB and Co. MAY, MAY be richer but I doubt if they will be available to prove it.
Family › Re: How Can One Overcome Language Barrier In Marriage? by Reference(m): 9:12pm On Jan 06, 2013
I'm sorry poster but this is what courtship is all about. You should have sorted it out then and stopped the wedding if you couldn't reach an agreement. Now its late. You're stuck with an insensitive person period. If this happens in peace time you can imagine what will happen when serious conflicts arise.

Communication and transparent ones for that matter is cardinal in any home. Husband, wife and children must be left in no doubt about what happens in the home, to one another and instantly for that matter. That is what marraige is all about and every party must sacrifice to promote these ideals.

At the very least practically every Nigerian understands pidgin english. She should use that in the home. Her dialect can be used out of ear-shot.

If on the other hand it is her parents that insist it means you have a bigger problem and I doubt if she's properly decoupled from them.

brownlord: Would the govt rebuild afterdemolition?, would they be compensated if not fashola shld nt destroy pppls house for no reason, what kind of senseless test, na now dem won begin do malaria test for people buildin
No. You're absolute wrong. A distressed building is a ticking time bomb and can go down at anytime. Heck, even the next rainy season may have brought them down. If those buildings are indeed stricken, you don't start by discussing compensation, you don't serve two-weeks notice, you get people out and those buildings down first and fast. The owners/occupants should be grateful this has been detected. If you know what energy a 200 ton building packs when collapsing you won't talk like this.

That's the problem with mass housing particularly government mass housing. Corruption and ineptitude has led to poor quality buildings. That's why I'm of the opinion government should not be in the business of building houses. Yes, housing is a business not a social service. This is the result of socializing business.

Oahray: Our people say that he who asks questions would never lose his way.
Curiosity is better than blind obedience any day. You guys should stop discouraging sincere questions. Its not christlike. Jesus did not condemn anyone for asking questions.
Every place and peoples I know have one rule or the other that describe their culture including all those who post on this thread including the poster herself. Some require you to remove your shoes before stepping into their living room, some have furniture in their living room but if you want their audience you may have to sit on the mat with them. All sorts. When I was growing up and stayed at my Uncle's one summer, touching of the walls was a taboo, making loud noises, etc, etc. Every one has rules including churches. Now for me to question the rules in every bank, gas station, airline, restaurant and church I go will simply be madness. I may chase every reason but I have better things to do with my time. And that's why the bible gives us several passages that paints a picture like this:

Go to places you are comfortable with as led by your conscience. If you can bear it stay, if you can't leave but by any means as long as what you don't find uncomfortable with is not a sin (according to your conscience) do not oppose it for you will offend others which is not right in the sight of God. Period.
