mathskill: The unlawful Taking of a human life can never be justified and must be condemned.Coming on the heels of the revelation that the victims are doctors brought in to improve health services in an area devastated by diseases, misery and poverty, the killings only emphasis the barbaric and callous nature of the crime. That said, it brings me to the issue of why i responded to your post and that is your illogical vitriolic outburst on the people of the North. It only goes to shows your ignorance and myopic mind. The fact is the people of the North are held hostage and terrorized by the same bunch of misguided, misinformed and bloodthirsty criminals. They attack everyone and everything they deem threatning. Anyone criticizing them is signing a death warrant. They don't have a standing in the general populace nor support. You should not and cannot blame the whole North on this killings.
I really feel for you guys from that region and religion grossly misrepresented by these outlaws because like you said anyone going against their practices becomes a legitimate target. However there must emerge from this a reformation movement similar to what happened in Christianity that ended the crusades: which does not seek to confront these people but isolate them and remove the fuel feeding the fire of violence particularly amongst the uneducated, underprivileged and poor. You guys have to create an alternative, a message and a movement of hope. No one is beyond redemption.

tessyade: I also remember that every other time Nigeria got to the Nations cup final without winning the cup (aside Algers '90), it's cameroun that stopped us.
Yes. When it comes to the Nation's Cup Cameroun is our perenial nemesis not Ghana or other overhyped entities. 84 with Clement Temile as top ace. Keshi made a stand for Nigeria at that tourney. 88 in Maroc even after Henry Nwosu magical headed opener. Then 2000 in Lagos. But we've had good success against the Lions as well. Incidentally the football fortunes of both countries declined about the same time though we have recovered faster.

take dat: True talk*! But which of the parties have more of those with genuine interest in moving the country forward than the self serving ones?
None. The only value you will get is the pressure of potential change not in the elements themselves. The better run states; Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Imo, Anambra (previously), Edo, to some extent Bayelsa and the western ACN states have one thing in common, tough intra-party and inter-party elections not that their governors have or are not looting. Contrast that with states with a latent polity or no/weak opposition.

I don't know whether Peter Obi is a good man but the pace of change has weakened with the fortunes of Chris Ngige. There are just so many cases.

take dat: Meaning?
Politics is not a zero sum game. Its one of balances, expediency, interests. Even perfect ideologies require sacrificing ethics. One big assumption we always make is that everyone loves good governance. If so did we get here by accident.

take dat: No need to stress this chat any further, we both share similar opinion that folks with genuine interest in moving the country forward should get politically active.

On choosing between two thieves, my candid opinion is not to go for neither. Rather than encouraging them, we should start searching for an honest leader!
There's no such thing.
Politics › Re: Tinubu: APC Will End PDP's Rule Of Scavengers by Reference(m): 1:49pm On Feb 08, 2013
talktimi: you've already accepted Tinubu was corrupt as governor of Lagos state, you also said "one who harbours criminals is their kingpin" then you've inadvertently told Nigerians that we have no choice but to drop one "thieving" regime for another "thieving" regime which might even be worse than the first one. You can't say there are lesser thieves or evils because a criminal is a criminal, if one can loot the state treasury, how safe is the federal treasury from him ?
As I've always advocated, Nigeria will only improve and move forward when we as a people hold our political office holders right from the local govt to the federal level to task on how they are ruling us and the policies they are implementing on our behalf. If we can take care of our respective states, then the sky will be below our limit as a country.
See what I mean. And this does not even factor in electorate corruption, i.e. the corrupt will of the ruled.
Politics › Re: Tinubu: APC Will End PDP's Rule Of Scavengers by Reference(m): 1:35pm On Feb 08, 2013
Interesting. Just that we seem yet to understand that our nourishment lies not in the values of alphabet soup nor the chefs who stir them but in the institutions they create.

The only potential value here is the heavier weight of numbers they can pull and the gravitational effect in favour of good governance not necessarily the people in power. Afterall they are all Nigerians aren't they.

alexy147: Moral of the lesson: beautiful ones are not yet born..by next 10yrs from today,a lot of changes will be observed too..
Another lesson. Things that are beautiful today started out plain, unsophisticated, unreliable and unattractive. But by patronage and diligence on the part of those entrepreneurs they have become great. Same with KIA, LG, Toyota, etc.

The question now is. How do we view our own products, people and processes. No global brand ever succeeded without leading local patronage. Hollywood will always sit more b.ums in US cinemas than anywhere else.

The poor, the poor, the poor. You always hear this when wealth or lavish spending is on display. Same thing they said about Jesus with the perfume stuff. His reply was classic. In a nutshell - what are you doing that I am not doing even more because the poor live closer to you than me.

Aliko wants to identify with winners. His strategy is to attract people to success by rewarding it. Same with some of these prosperity preachers. They flaunt it so you can ask questions. People who want to get ahead will respond.

Unfortunately there are those who can't and will never get motivated. Those are the poor amongst you/us.

adconline: You are wrong on 2001 loss to Naija, cos there was no AFCON that year. Instead, in 2000, Naija lost to Ghana in penalty shoot out at the finals.
Thought it was Cameroun that won that. Victor Ikpeba's kick hit the cross-bar and appeared to cross the line but the referee (perhaps a north african) ruled it a miss and the Lions said aye.

It was the 20th anniversary of our first cup triumph on the same turf but men it hurt so bad.

Gbawe: Drastic urbanisation means , for Lagos, "the only way is up".
Totally agree. And I'm totally in favour of land owners coming together to do joint developments to maximise their land value. Down with building back to back. Combine your lands and have enough space for parking, nature and air. I hope Portharcourt residents can take a cue.

manuelo130: Older Nigerian players go know say if they no wan play, local based players go play. At least we neva hear say Nigerian players wan go strike all through this tournament. If some players dey, we for don dey hear say, players no wan play b/c NFF neva pay them and before you know it, dem go lose match wey dey suppose win
That's the key to unlocking Nigerian soccer peculiarities within the senior side. It is not always about your best players but your best set or your best team. Mikel himself has admitted that the players now work hard for one another. Even he is comfortable with his assists though he missed a penalty. His game has vastly improved.

So even if the NFF may not be up to speed as usual. I am pleased Keshi has isolated his team. And selected a balanced team that seeks glory above other selfish things.

Difficult call. Can't say whether it is easier to rise from a drubbing and a consequtive semi-final loss or a penalty shoot-out loss after running your mouth from Cape to Cairo even though you've not won the trophy since 1982 when only a handful of countries knew what it meant.

Hmm. If there was any proof that we were indeed in the real group of death - this is it. So we can see in better perspective our early results. Fortunately the Super Eagles have taken to the air since the group games and are reaching for the sky. The Cup is ours.

I think Keshi just brings him in so that in the event of a trophy he will get a mention. I personally think the guy is running on fumes. His tank is completely empty.

Still too early. One thing Yekini had was consistency. This is observed over time. If the team handlers can work to keep Emenike a top 9 for say the next two years, I think we will have the striking machine we've be longing for. Its a journey of discovery.

CFCfan: Remember peeps, Egypt scored 4 goals in 2 consecutive semi-finals, and went on to win the trophy in both 2010 and 2008.

Lets hope the Super Eagles can replicate that feat on Sunday.
And when you consider the context that Nigeria eliminated both the defending champions and the pre-tournament favourites, the trek to the final was no mean feat. I don't think we could have had it any tougher. The good thing though is that it sharpened the lads and killed complacency - the biggest problem we have. The final will be a hard nut but I expect our team to be a massive sledge hammer.
