Politics › Re: Suits: Why Do Nigerian Presidents Hate Wearing Them? by Reference(m): 8:49am On Mar 29, 2012
I think as the largest African nation you can excuse our leaders for showing some distinction. The non-conformist posture may be about projecting power and influence saying something like, take us as we are, we are not wearing school boy's uniform. Unfortunately when you run through the list of other non-conformist leaders and nationals it doesn't exactly make a nice club. Cuba's Castros, the Kim's of North Korea and of course the monarchy's, theocracies and dictatorships of the Middle East to mention a few. Not a nice club.
Politics › Re: Man Falls Off Elevator At WAEC Building, Lagos & Dies by Reference(m): 8:31am On Mar 29, 2012
I would be laughing out loud if not for the tragic outcome. How in this wide wild world can you fall from an elevator stopping midway at the 8th floor without banging your head even if the doors for some strange reason open. Surely your eye line will catch the floor above once the doors open and even if you manage to fall out, by what stroke of bad luck will you re-enter the shaft. Or is there something else going on there.

Anyway, once again this event brings to the fore our culture of mismanagement and corruption. That building will probably have a facilities manager and a hefty maintenance budget that will be passed by the House of Assembly year on year and though the staff will get their pay, protest regularly for wage increases and add a few ghosts along the line, the work of keeping their elevators working and commuters alive is lost on them. So the killing continues. I strongly advice the innocent ones among them to relocate to the ground floor. An office in the filthy toilets or in the carpark is far better than death by bungee jumping. As for visitors kudos to nairaland for saving your lives. Peace.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: AC Milan Vs Barcelona (0 - 0) On 28th March 2012 by Reference(m): 11:59pm On Mar 28, 2012
Very intriguing match up but by no means over. On the one hand the Nou Camp is a fortress of some sorts but on the other, let's say its been a while since I've seen Barca rendered so ordinary, so unimposing and bringing to the fore some serious doubts about Pep's abilities. He knew an away goal against Milan was critical. Once again his tactics were one dimensional. No plan B. Of course Messi subsidised the team for too long that do I sense a bit of ineptitude coming from other quarters. The age old Barca way has been to run rings round their opponents. Get them frustrated. Get an inordinate amount of free kicks and defence disabling cards both yellows and reds and thus passage becomes easy for them. Today we saw a disciplined Milan defence. Patient and unprovoked (Jose and his gang can learn from this). And though they conceded huge amounts of possession the important stat, goals remained neutral. Milan having survived this will certainly not go to camp Nou as lambs to the slaughter. They know an odd goal will put Barca out and that's what age old Italian soccer is all about. Allegri got this one spot on. Pep must seek tactical advice before rolling out his tanks in Barcelona. I don't see Milan defending there.
Business › Re: Cashless Policy: CBN Exempt Embassies And Donor Agencies by Reference(m): 11:15am On Mar 28, 2012
I hope the CBN stands firm on this matter. It is of serious importance that banks are not reduced to cash depositories and hence increasing targets of very violent banditry. Our telecoms industry has developed in leaps and this can be a veritable tool to lifting the cash transaction load off the banking floor and allow banks focus on growing businesses.
Politics › Re: Farida Waziri Holds On To Official Cars & House Months After Sack by Reference(m): 10:34pm On Mar 27, 2012
Ptimes: Former head of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Farida Waziri, has retained official effects assigned to her office as the commission’s chairperson, four months after she was fired, the House of Representatives committee overseeing the agency said.

Mrs. Waziri keeps an unstated number of vehicles, an accommodation property, and other items belonging to the anti-corruption agency, according to the House committee on Drugs, Narcotic and Financial Crimes.

Mrs. Waziri’s unceremonious removal late last year, was mired in unclear circumstances after a four year spell that was harshly criticized by many as largely unsatisfactory in tackling corruption.

The era was replete with several unresolved high profile cases with only a few convictions to show for. Still, former House Speaker Dimeji Bankole and deputy, Usman Nafada, were charged for corruption under her tenure...Read more: http://premiumtimesng.com/news/4410-months_after_sack_farida_waziri_keeps_official_cars_house.html
Continue to say while looters continue to act. Who are they 'saying' to, to me or my pet dog. Okay we will set out at dawn to pursue Farida, overtake her and recover all. Nairalanders, you've heard the charge, the National Assembly is calling on you to participate in the womanhunt. Rise up and let's pursue after her on behalf of government. Can you imagine this nonsense. Must there be a story on every matter before action takes place or is there no one being paid with tax payers money to recover government property again. Funny.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Inter Milan Sack Claudio Ranieri And Appoint Andrea Stramaccioni by Reference(m): 12:07am On Mar 27, 2012
CuteTj: I pity the man. Cant they as well sack players? When players miss goal scoring opportunities or play poorly, is it the coach that instructs them to miss chances. Coaches are doing huge tasks, take all the responsibilites for failure but in most cases never get paid mega bucks like the players.
I think the hierarchy is very clear. Management engages the coach, the coach in most cases engages the players. He decides who plays and who does not so field performances is his territory and responsibility. If management goes over his head to begin to tinker (excuse the pun) with the players they will undermine the efficiency of the coach ala Chelsea and the whole system breaks down.

Poor coach. Poor decision making. The last game at Juventus said it all. Substituted Joel Obi and the other young lad while leaving a team with a combined age of almost 200 years on the field. It was clear they lacked pace going forward and retreating after loosing the ball. Now he has time to sit back, watch the tapes and learn what is trending in football these days. Its all about pace, mass attack, mass defence, quick counter attacks. He may wish to share the same with his compatriot Roberto Mancini who is equally clueless and will sooner or later suffer the same fate.

Dotcom. Though I appreciate Arsene and regard the brand of football the Gunners play as outstanding and the very best in the UK, I personally feel sports should not entirely be about economics. When financial considerations are primodal you have instability which is inimical to team work, morale and genuine creativity. Extremes are bad and Wenger appears to be taking too strong measures in balancing the books. The reason they have not won trophies for instance is that they constantly sell their best players. Richer clubs on the other hand are constantly buying causing the same problems. I do hope he can change some aspects of his management technics.

angry angry angry What kind of nonsense is this. You mean this university cannot provide a borehole for its halls of residence. I mean what is the basis of accrediting these institutions in the first place. This is disgusting, unfortunate and believe me someone is culpable for this. If the university cannot provide boreholes with at least a hand pump in this day and age it should go on recess. What are they doing with the billions they receive each year. What is the ETF doing. If it is strike for pay ASUU are champions. Just look at the water these poor folks are using. Pity. Someone must be held for this criminal act. MTSRIP.

Business › Re: Is It Legal For A Bank To Hold On To Money For No Reason? by Reference(m): 12:06am On Mar 23, 2012
Sorry, what I meant by regulatory institutions providing support supposes for example a lot of ground work being laid and with billions perhaps to high levels of goverment becasue quite frankly in Nigeria, government controls all sectors of enterprise. If you are investing in telecoms, power, agriculture, tourism, hotel & leisure, retail, manufacturing, oil & gas, pharmaceuticals, , education, infrastructure, real estate, etc. you will need to have had some sort of regulatory linkup that will enable you clear these hurdles faster. This country needs investment and billions of naira will go a long way in any sector and there are a lot of people in the right places that will have created a softer landing for your investment. But with this it all sounds too secretive, informal ad quite frankly, one king. Except there are details you choose not to reveal which is okay on an open and equally informal forum.
Business › Re: Is It Legal For A Bank To Hold On To Money For No Reason? by Reference(m): 11:47pm On Mar 22, 2012
Read all the posts and I can understand most of the reactions. First and foremost it is indeed very strange for foreign investment to come in entirely in cash and particularly without reference to some regulatory institution of government that supervises the relevant area of enterprise that would provide you (your husband) additional backup and approval. Let's be quite honest, with the level of graft, laundering and AFF (419) going on in this country huge amounts of cash going to private private (emphasis) investment will raise eyebrows.

Now I will not for a minute excuse the banks for not expediting the fund release because based on my personal experiences most banks have no consideration whatsoever for the businesses of their customers. They see their customers worse than a taxi driver see's his passengers. I lose an average of one in six business transactions to bank inefficiencies. Right now I am the grass under a rat (Access Bank) seeking to swallow an elephant carcass (you know whom), however billions of naira out of the blues (maybe) is really open for banking misadventure and mischief.

Blackteeth: When will Nigerians know that a single person cannot save this nation.
Thank you. Nigerians are waiting for a messiah to drag them kicking and screaming into the 21st century while insisting to live primitively. The only way this country can move forward is if the number of people prepared to do what is right exceeds the number of sinners. Democracy is a game of numbers so what can one man do. When we get tired of the wages of sin change will come. As long as we enjoy sin, change will never come. Just raise a case of corruption on this forum and it degenerates to arguments. We don't even agree as to what good governance means. So what does gender matters offer but escapism and ostrich like behaviour.

kunlekunle: that's why they hate buhari
they are not discplined
This is a circular argument. The reason Buhari is not in power is because he will try to do exactly what you want him to do and he will likely be impeached in two months.

I repeat again and again. Democracy comes from the bottom up and not top down. People need to change in good quantities before the society, economy and so on improve. American's don't drive right because of Barack Obama but because the VAST MAJORITY want to.

Any country requiring coercion to enforce basic laws on such a massive scale such as Nigeria cannot have democracy as well. You might as well have a one party totalitarian regime like in China or Russia. Whether we are ripe for the present system we operate is another matter.

We heard Gbenga Aruleba read out the internal memo between her and one of her principals on AIT yesterday morning soliciting the payment for certain items of expenditure involving the probe. What he (Gbenga) failed to reveal was mentioned later by one of his invitees was the minutes by madam in response clearly stating as well that the proposal (to pay for two items of expenditure) was an 'excellent idea'. In saner societies an offer of inducement amounts to criminality and not just the taking or the demand. Even the intent to bribe, the contemplation, the discussion says a lot. Like one of the panelist said. If the commission was clean as a sheet the matter of bribe demand will have been reported the moment it happened and not forced from her lips under hostile pressure.

Payment for anything connotes ownership whether temporary as in leasing or permanently as in purchase. Ancient culture had dowries because that is exactly what it was men virtually owned women. Now that no man is under bond and women are gaining liberty and protection fast, the dowry system should be abrogated and any family receiving dowry should know they have effectively sold off their daughter.
Politics › Re: Ibrahim Tukur El-sudi Appointed Chair Of Capital Market Probe by Reference(m): 9:54am On Mar 21, 2012
The NASS has done the right thing replacing HH and I hope they take on his case later but the probe must go on. Any capital market is built on trust and right now no building work is going on. None has been going on since 2008 and millions have lost millions even when the excuse of global recession has largely been discredited.

Now, what is trust. Why does my broker repeatedly call me and I refuse to respond, trust. You just don't know what will happen to your money and for THE regulator to be found in a position of questionable integrity, trust is the first casualty.

For those who demean frowns at 85,000 naira meals and 30 million naira hotel bills. Know this. Every great financial institution that has gone down has done so on two things. The greed of the chief operators, whether Bernie Madoff or Cecilia Ibru and two, the insensitivity to their customers (or mugs). That's why when investigations are made whether in England or India, the first buttons to be pressed are lifestyle issues. Watch Sky News for a month if you doubt. When Ibori was caught the first red flag was his lavish London lifestyle in the face of poverty.

So if your business is in jeopardy, your economy is under, your company is bust, your family is in ruins, your lifestyle must be in check. It is only in Nigeria where paper qualifications matter but personal qualities count for little. No wonder we are like this. I bet those who support such frivolous spending will baulk if such bills were charged to their PERSONAL account. The market is dying and there you are slurping 20,000 naira pig behind.
Politics › Re: Who Do You Think Is The Right Man That Can Change Nigeria For Good by Reference(m): 12:52am On Mar 21, 2012
There are no singular forces that can improve Nigeria. That's why in our history no military ruler left the country better than he met it. The challenges are just too complex. Our ideologies are too diverse. Nothing binds us long enough for a potential leader to hitch on to motivate the nation. Even the crucible of civil war that galvanised strong nationalistic and pluralistic tendencies has failed in Nigeria. Very little works here. We just have to find some alien system to succeed.
Politics › Re: Suspend The Dubious Capital Market Probe Now by Reference(m): 12:35am On Mar 21, 2012
Exactly why corruption can never be eradicated until we suffer inconceivable hardship. As long as 85,000 naira meals are deemed alright by some and 8 month hotel stays amount to prudence, nothing will change. The whole thing has gone sideways like the 179 probes before it. Corruption has fought back, repelled the onslaught and won. So sorry for this country.

If you are certain they will come your best bet will be to temporarily relocate. There is no guarantee whatsoever what will happen afterall it is a robbery. Your neighbours may resist or invite security then all hell breaks loose and they become very violent and even molest you as a woman.

On the long run advise your husband to start relocating to a safer enclave. Security is one of the principal factors in selecting where to locate your home. If it is not peaceful it is not worth it. You can rent out the property and find one to rent elsewhere. Many people do that. Remember there is no pride in losing your hard earned wealth or life to some low lifers who take out their failings on others.
