Career › Re: Self-Employment vs Oil Company Job: Which is Better? by Reference(m): 11:09am On Apr 06, 2012
Very interesting perspectives but we must not even try to demean one or the other side afterall the oil company was started by a foolish entrepreneur who turned down a lucrative offer generations ago and Mr Entrepreneur what will you call the people working for you, unmotivated parasites? I think not.

The general rule is your decisions are either ruled by your head or your heart. While employees are more likely to be brainy (attraction of employers) and reason out life and its challenges, enterprise on the other hand is driven entirely by passion and requires some degree of mental dysfunction aka madness.

If I am to promote one I will rather praise enterprise and this is simply because of the level of suffering in Nigeria today. We have enough smart people but not enough jobs for them and certainly not enough people with the heart, the courage to create them.

Imagine if Seun was faced with this choice.

I still have my doubts about the whole Synagogue thing. Got nothing against the man but prediction and by extension gifts of the spirit are subject to manipulation, misuse and misadventure. The fruits of the spirit on the other hand cannot be faked. Whereby the former overwhelmingly overpowers and outshines the other and is a point of constant reference, 'Houston, we have a problem'. The bible warns explicltly of what Christians should seek, respect and be wary of. Miracles and great signs though important are increasingly being counterfeited like any valuable but scarce commodity on earth.

I thought the Union Bank Building in Marina was the tallest building. And by the way which NITEL Building are you referring to, the old NETCOM building in Marina?? A bit confused here. The building pictured here looks rather short. Am counting not more that twenty floors here.

Business › Re: Is It Ethical For A Christian To Trade Forex? by Reference(m): 2:53pm On Apr 05, 2012
Another dimension. The bible says: 'My people perish due to lack of knowledge'. Also it says, 'the wages of sin is death'. So anything that isn't backed by knowledge has one end alone - death. Not surprising that if I had the knowledge of all the cards held at the blackjack table, I would be there for weeks having a good time while the family of my competition will be signing the funeral register.
Business › Re: Is It Ethical For A Christian To Trade Forex? by Reference(m): 2:24pm On Apr 05, 2012
Taking it further home to the poster, I don't think there's much of a difference between a man who takes his life savings to Vegas and camps around a slot machine with a pastor who wakes up in the morning, does no study, does no research and his entire motive is towards the offerings to be taken on sunday. Should we assume because his profession is noble we should assume he is not sinning, his church is not called Las Vegas, his pulpit a roulette table and his congregation are not gambling chips.
Business › Re: Is It Ethical For A Christian To Trade Forex? by Reference(m): 2:09pm On Apr 05, 2012
Any action without due diligence as pertaining to knowledge, planning and risk assesment is tantamount to gambling and perhaps you call it sin. So whether you trade forex, stocks or bonds, whether you are a loan officer in the bank, whether you are into pure water business, entering politics to elected offices or a general leading his troops against Boko Haram, the laws remain the same. If you are not diligent in any endeavour then some other inordinate force drives you. Diligence is the key to satiation on any matter, it sets the limits greed and ensures the dynamics of proper productive work is kept.

So it is not only what you do that determines what is right or wrong but the motive, the approach, preparation and execution. These will determine whether you are in business or just playing with your life or the lives, money or opportunities of others.
Romance › Re: All Relationships Have Secrets? by Reference(m): 5:08pm On Apr 03, 2012
We are supposed to be created in the image of God. If He has secrets so should we. Secrets have little to do with relationships of any kind as we all (willingly or not have to exercise faith in everyone and everything we come across daily). How are we sure the lovely cashier isn't stealing my money. How am I sure that ATM isn't rigged. How am I sure the maintenance staff repaired the aircraft I'm boarding. How am I sure the burger at KFC is not a roasted rat. All these are secrets held by people the consequences of which could mean life and death. How are domestic secrets any different or weightier. But to dwell in a state of suspicion of all things and all people (more common among younger women) is to live in self paralysis.

That's the game plan. Anti-corruption fatigue. When you've heard enough, you have no fight left in you. You just sigh and go, oh la la. Corruption is on steroids while those pursuing are gulping pure water.
Family › Re: Who should a spouse listen to in matters of life and death? Family or the spouse by Reference(m): 1:54pm On Apr 03, 2012
Now if it is the resources that make for decision making my personal belief is simple. As a parent, sibling or whatever, you have had 20, 30 or more unfettered years of teaching, enlightenement and experimentation. Once you let your ward go and append the dotted lines your works are put to test. The rocket has left and you cannot call it back in one piece. It simply disintegrates. One advice leads to another until the whole union disintegrates. That's why parenting is important and so hard and that's why I tell folks go for quality not quantity. It takes special grace to get good unions from previously very large, broken or multi-union families.
Family › Re: Who should a spouse listen to in matters of life and death? Family or the spouse by Reference(m): 1:40pm On Apr 03, 2012
LISTEN TO is the key phrase here. This is not like the medical case exemplified earlier which borders on physical assistance. I'm sure the poster actually means mental resources in decision making aka advice.

This thing will never be curtailed until the banks are fully adhered to rules and regulations. They are just involved in massive money laundering schemes with these government goons and deserve to be docked as well. They are all aware of the numerous government directives on cash movements but they willingly disobey even in full view of their master, the CBN.

What part of the ban on night travelling do they not understand. Both passengers and the transport company are at fault. Why wait till night for a solution then continue. Once it was four in the evening the girls should have all given up on the journey and bedded down. As for the transporter they have violated an FRSC directive so they deserve the full weight of the law. The parents should come together and institute a class action to make an example which other transporters will sit up and take notice. When yot pay a fare, you are entitled amongst other things your safety which in this case was willfully compromised.

For all his qualities he is just not a democrat so I can't see how it will happen. If he is the flesh and blood of the party the best he will get is the party chairman. In this the PDP is better. At least they have internal debates and feudings that create external strength and resilience. You will always have a glass ceiling when power is concentrated. Can anyone even among the diehard ACN supporters say what will happen if this man is no more.

And by the way, it is motorcyclists that should be protected from other road users not the other way round. Their number is a reflection of the poverty levels in our nation and while you can legislate standards, training and compliance, you can't legislate away poverty. That's the truth.
Car Talk › Re: Lagos Okada Riders On Strike,Inorder To Attend Court Over Ikeja Business Distric by Reference(m): 3:01pm On Apr 02, 2012
Why doesn't it just get its mass transit system properly in place before the ban and I don't mean more cars and buses on the already packed streets. For all their shortcomings bikes leave the least enviromental foot print - emissions and road wear per passenger and also the best fuel efficiency per person per mile in an urban set up. Ban them and petrol imports will shoot up dramatically. If we can't have electrically driven mass transit let these bikes be. There's no nation outside China that is not worried about the growing threat of motor vehicles in urban areas.

Raxxye: Oga, so u spend an average of 30mins, then off u go to bank to collect the proceeds from Nairaland, while dedicated guys and ladies stay on for hours, helping out, answering questions and making the site rich and interesting. Yet u don‘t care about their opinions. I don‘t know how to describe u, man. U simply....
That's true. Seun how can you spend just 30 minutes a day tending your garden. No wonder this place is full of thorns and you appear lost at sea. If you spent more time here you will not be asking for opinions or attract this level of blowback. The colours are cool by the way. Can't confirm that after 3 hours though.

Education › Re: Nigerian Universities Should Source Funds Privately - Anyim by Reference(m): 11:50am On Mar 31, 2012
I knew it will come to this sooner or later. Essentially subsidizing tertiary education of up to a million candidates a year is unsustainable. A new model just has to be found. I think synergy between industry and universities is needed here. They are the end users of these products so they should bear part of the cost of bringing them to the right state. Afterall we are all familiar with the mentoring system that has been existing in informal businesses for generations. Why can't formal industry do same.

I think this forum is a reflection of who we are and what our prefrences are at any point in time. I've said it before. I'm for less censorship and more for freedom of expression. It is like a supermarket. You respond to what catches your fancy. If you don't like the topic or discourse simply move on. Once you punch that 'reply' button you're sucked in and done. The responsibility becomes yours. This country and its peoples face a lot of challenges, the last thing we need added to the mess are fake people, deceptive discussion all in the name of diplomacy or civility. Seun for goodness sake what is 'Joystick Chenney'.

Bastiger: why by hanging?i hope he dies in an electric chair.
Hanging is the only practical way of disposing scumbags in Nigeria. Knowing when he will be electrocuted the felon will probably contact his chums in PHCN to blackout the jailhouse or deliver such low current that only uncle Wallie will feel the tingle.

Really sorry for that lady. She has a good heart. But the truth is that change comes from within no matter how enlightened an individual. While some may see it in the same light missionaries did a hundred years ago, others will liken her action to snake charming, a thrill ride with a morbid outcome. If people don't want a thing they won't have it. My grandma didn't need any encouragement to send all her children to the quarry to dig stones to build the school they all attended. You either want it or not. We must admit the value system in most parts of the north is anti-western education and what missionaries could not do a hundred years ago cannot be done today. Poster, think deeper about what is really happening in these places.
