karpentar: If manu loses today Alex Ferguson must accept full responsibility. He should not have rested Howard Webb for such an important game.Oh la la. |
emmke: and tomorrow some deluded epl fans will be calling on messi to move to england, the superior league according to them, to prove he is the best.I disagree. Manchester City and the traditional top four of United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool are all in one form of transition or another that affects all teams. Give it another couple of seasons and you will find four EPL teams in the last 8 UCL places as has been. The EPL remains the most competitive. They have only suffered recently from aging squads and player power. With all due respect Bilbao and United are not to be found on the same pitch. Na condition. |
niddamugu: Was he also a member of the cabals?Am afraid he was. But let's forgive him. He's gone. |
This shows great improvement and good job by Harold and his team. No major air crash since 2006. However light aircraft transport remains problematic. I hope NCAA will be able to extend their services to these private airstrips and helipads from which these doomed aircraft originated. |
ziccoit: This woman has done nothing wrong IMO. It is the system. A system that doesn't self activate to disallow this level of irresponsibility is a failure. That is why GEJ would always be a failure. The freshness of his air should go along with bring a better system that would readily turn thing around for good in this country. But, what do we have? Stuo quo maintenance. This is the exact reason why corruption will never end. There will always be deflection and sidesway. The moment pressure is placed someone somewhere will turn public defender. It is now the Presidency that will prevent her from looting her office. A nation that cannot place self responsibility as its watch word can never progress. America is not overwhelmed by corruption because of Obama but the collective will and responsibility. Let's condemn in totality and repeatedly all cases of such acts without prejudice, no matter tribe, religion or political affiliation. She has no excuse and no where to hide. She was asked for bribe should not distract from her actions. |
Criminal woman who has spent 30 million on hotel bills over the last 9 months and is billing us over 800,000 a day on feeding. In a proper society she should be singing from an interrogation room. Disgusting criminals. |
blacklion: SMH at 'who is he?'. Just goes to confirm the age/historical knowledge/level of political awareness of the average NairalanderI tell you. It is alarming and indicates that a lot of people here comment on things they donot understand or take time to research on. If you must understand this country and its political dynamics people like Daboh play a prominent role. He was a sort of right hand man, technical advisor to IBB in the June 12 caper and his flow has generally been in that direction since. He was rather a naughty man in many eyes but for today one can only identify with the loss of such a monumental figure and commisurate with his family and friends. |
These are people overly protective of territory, tribe and religious toga that the elements, the seeds of development cannot even bear roots. If anyone genuinely knows how to develop that region, I would really like to know, honest. Is it by infrastructure, education, commerce, entertainment, religion, culture or what. They have resisted and rejected all the above by external parties so what now. They routinely hound and kill traders, sabotage infrastructure. Now kidnap and kill expats, destroy centres of other faiths, block or prevent so called western culture and influences and now through BH seek the end of 'western education'. If your elites are given the cash not a penny reaches the target. So how?. Even regions as conservative as the emirates are opening up. So who's model are they following. We have problems in Nigeria I tell you. |
If the system is inherently bad why not find a way out. These writings are merely history and geography. The question is who wants change and what are they doing to resist or encourage it. What is the north actively doing to free themselves from the centre. What is the north actively doing in seeking independent development. In short what are they doing to survive post 4th republic beyond religious extremism. There was a time Germany was a paraih state with 9 in 10 belonging to the Nazi party. That is history. Today they are engines of euro growth and democracy. What direction is the north going, better or worse. Do they ever see themselves as the germany of nigeria. Yes or no. That is the worry. That is the agitation. That if you have a gangrenous leg your best bet will be to cut it off. If the core north offers nothing but pure trouble day in day out what is the point. So it is not a matter of who started the fight in 1960 but whether issues are resolved today. History is only for learning. Right practice leads to success. Don't divert from the issues. |
jp philips: Police IG procures chopper for the police force.Hmm, corruption fighting back. Sad loss. |
I wonder how naive we can all get. The bulk of all types of military and para-military operations are conducted by young men most barely out of their teens. Militants, armed robbers, cultists and since the first big religious infraction in Kano in 1981 had a big role played by kids. Those who flew the planes into the twin towers were in school when they started their long walk to infamy, so was Abdulmuttalab. Were those paraded after the election violence old, bearded men ?. Some of these folks are recruited at what we know as pre-nursery school level and vigorously indoctrinated such that by their early teens they are brimming with viscious hatred and well capable of killing without thought. It will take more than interrogation, threats and torture to get through their mindset and on to their leaders and backers. This is where peace loving muslim groups in those locales have to boldly step out and take the morale high ground, reintegrating these renegades into their fold before they suffer collateral damage of collective responsibility. Yes, these kids are more than capable, beyond your imagination. |
The old Nairaland had a timer. I was shocked at the first day I spent and subsequently cut down. |
And when you add the figures for wines and spirits. And when you add the figures for local brews which could easily match this, one can only imagine. |
They've done dark blue, black, light blue. If this one fails to reform police what next, bishop's cassock or spandex. |
Said he supplied Atiku cattle or something. Atiku's media man acknowledges knowing this man and the issues surrounding this drama but speculated it could be politically fuelled. I just hope the police gets this one right. |
That's what you get when you don't properly deregulate. You can't eat your cake and have it. Tanker drivers feel and act like civil servants because government is their paymaster not the public. If they faced proper market forces in competition, faced performance targets, faced proper regulatory tasking, strike will be extinct in their vocabulary. Afterall the group of MTN, GLO, AIR and co. are telecoms monopolies and equally strategic yet you don't have a strike culture. Deregulate and let them work. Power as they have corrupts absolutely. Are they the only ones who take loans. Nigerians must be prepared to pay a fair price for quality goods and services. If not, I repeat our oil industry will go to the dogs. |
I don't blame them. I blame our government back then. Gowon, Murtala and esp. Obasanjo. If they had seen then what these ingrates are doing today they will never have intervened. We led a boycott of the 76 Montreal olympics and sacrificed the sporting careers of scores of our men and women athletes. The government ignored their pleas and some never recovered. It was so sad. The foreign investors we are looking for today we drove away back then, nationalising several key industries and thus loosing key competitiveness and advantage even to fellow african countries and foisting industrial responsibility overnight on an unprepared people. The military regimes of the day were also not educated and experienced enough in re-industrialization and thus corruption and oligarchy easily took off. That is when second rated (pardon me) investments filled the gap. The Lebanese phenomenon started. By effectively fighting these western multinationals and industrial concerns against apartheid, Nigeria effectively mortgaged its development. Incidentally whatever economic advantage SA has today is simply because of the very thing we fought against - white supremacy. Every one of SA investments in Nigeria today are essentially 'white' so where lies their pride. If we had made Nigeria comfy for western europe and the u.s. while turning a blind eye to apartheid and black suffering, which other african country had the clout to help them and believe me we will have been well rewarded by the 'whites'. But see us today. No wahala. It all sounds like a mother who sold bean cakes to school her son. Of course the woman can feed herself, but to be called smelly smoked. . No problem.Let them continue to enjoy their developed, virus free country. Nigeria will rise again. |
Does it also auto excludes ethnic Hitlerites, huh. That's the main complaint ere. |
1stCitizen: |
Its so easy to criticize but without knowing the full circumstance it is better to temper it afterall Seal team six that got Bin Laden lost a lot of men in an Afghanistan incident a few months later. What do you say about that. In a covert operation several factors need to align properly for it to succeed and more often than not they don't. A planned silent assault can easily turn into a ferocious ambush and this incident looks exactly like that. The only reason why weapons will be used at long range is to counter in coming fire. I suspect the operation was compromised. With the way suspects jump arrest, it is not unimaginable our security services are as solid as swiss cheese. Am afraid in the future these foreign forces may just conduct operations on our turf just as they do in Pakistan for the very same reasons. |
When I say in football nothing is permanent those that started watching last season disagree. The EPL is clearly waning. It can't be that both Italy and Spain have suddenly become spectacular but with United's performance tonight something is clearly wrong. |
If true this is great news. There's a lot of private capacity out there and I know people who will take a quick buck for their extra power. However to make this work we need a smarter grid that evacuate as well as deliver power simultaneously as well as a metering system to evaluate what each person is injecting and of course strong regulation to guarantee quality and fair prices. I've said it several times. Power is the easiest sector to privatise and invest in. Unlike telecoms, power is consumed continuosly and the break even point viz. number of consumers is low. A 5,000 Mw plant may be several times more efficient than a 5,000 kw plant but it is a strategically riskier investment and does no good for time scale and capital outlay. |
The solution is simple. Place an order for an aircraft carrier and two ballistic missile submarines and you will get your unreserved apologia pronto. That in today's language is called respect. |
When we talk about developing the Niger-Delta and mitigating the environmental impact industrialization via refining and petrochemicals would have been the best option. Now, even if a refinery or petrochem. plant could not have been demanded by every license issued. It could have been demanded by licensing round and infact made a determinant for acreage sizes and potentials. From the late 70's till today we would have mustered at least a dozen refineries by now and when these wells dry and the plants become redundant what they leave are industrial hubs that remain productive for generations. But when all your investment is centered around a hole in the ground and pipelines to evac. the crude why will you build roads, schools or hospitals. Why will you care what the water tastes like or how much sulphur is in the air. Your workers rotate in and out every fortnight and they all drink bottled water to save their lives. When the wells dry up what you find by way of infrastructure are a helipad for drying cassava and rickety bailey bridges. This is unacceptable. There is no mine location anywhere in the world that has permanent infrastructure and a permanent economy without diversified investment. Go to Jos and see the end of nonsense mineral exploitative policies. There will have been no need for OMPADEC, NDDC, ND ministry and perhaps derivation if we had added just one value added clause to these exploration contracts. Clause that will keep these companies breathing local air, drinking local water and enjoying local mosquitos. But alas, the man has had enough lung sulphur, runs to Abuja and with his partying shot tells us to our face, remain undeveloped, bye. |
Nothing new said here. But what is wrong in having 25 refineries over 25 acreage licenses. What is wrong in refining the entire 2.4 million barrels a day. In my opinion the status quo is deliberate to keep us perpetually de-industrialised. If countries having no crude whatsoever refine, ship half way round the world and sell for a profit no matter how small, why will a refinery located literarily above an oil well be loss making. They should come out with hard figures to make this story believable. Right now it smacks of sheer imperialism. They have the jobs, the technology and the cheap crude, while we suffer unemployment, get little value for our raw export and pay through our noses for petrol. This is disgusting. Anyone who continues to support the status quo is not a friend but an enemy of this nation and her people whether foreign or domestic. |
What is this man saying. Kaita was ejected for kicking a player that tossed the ball rudely at him at a throw in. This was when Nigeria badly needed a win with our quality wise wafer thin squad. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot. Anyway I don't blame him. He comes from a society than excuses every manner of indiscretions and accords no responsibility or consequences whatsoever for far reaching actions. For us its just fart and forget. Who cares who suffers. |
Or a new instalment of 'Car Alone'. Part one of course. |
Spend, spend, spend. That's all they ever talk about. Lazy, profligate children of Yakubu Gowon. No one has asked him how much he was able to invest thoughtless of generate. Let them not reorientate their psyche but continue to dance not realising the music is fast approching the last notes. |
md4real:Hmmm, not sure. Looking at their pay packs even to the west coast and you'd realise the poorly and erratically remunerated hommie is in fact the slave here. Imagine not a single dime went to league and cup winners last season. Can it get worse than that. |
For now no explosive device should be found in the possesion of any civilian including the police. This is my candid opinion. Restricting others to the exclusion of the chosen is just an exercise to create a corrupt monopoly that will still be exploited by militants. |
