In terms of club football, the short answer is yes. In terms of his overall career, no. In terms of his potentials, who knows. |
Here we go again. This is why free things donot work. When you have free education you create ASUU. When you have free medicare you create medical unions as stubborn as the viruses they tackle. Why, because people rush for free things, clog the system and burden the operators leading to wage demands. It is a viscious cycle. If government insists on free social services it will soon declare bankruptcy. What we need are economic models that ensure higher productivity and lower costs to bridge this gap. And doctors should be part of this. How can you be asking for a reduction in your taxes when taxes are essentially what keeps your industry running. If this is the case then the rest of us must subsidize your costs. So what is free about free medicare. |
all4naija: I thought NNPC claimed there was no foul play in its dealings! Scrap NNPC, Scrap it!!!Who cares about how much senior executives earn in Zenith bank, Globacom or even SPDC for that matter. No one, because we know for them to stay in business they have to remain competitive and this includes their overheads. NNPC is not a business entity. The petroleum sector is not a market place but a scam that Nigerians are gullibly buying into, selling their collective heritage for a morsel of cheap petrol. Folks, there is nothing special about petroleum products or stable electricity. Government should hands off now and send these rent seekers and emergency contractors to bed. All the economic growth Nigeria has recorded since 1999 has been via economic liberalisation. All the losses we have endured has been through government intervention. Name them. Banking and finance, telecoms, ports, etc. Nigerians think. What sectors were the fastest growing and largest employers. Think. All what government is about is massive wealth to privileged few. |
eGuerrilla: http://www.punchng.com/news/nnpc-spends-n1-35bn-annually-on-36-employees/Nothing new here. When calls were made for the deregulation and liberalisation of the oil sector we protested and insisted government take charge. Every where in the world people battle big government because they know the heavy indirect losses except here in Nigeria where we choose to pretend. I've said it times over, privatisation is the key. Nitel was once as corrupt as NNPC and inept as PHCN. Today who cares. Crude oil is just another commodity, petrol is just another product. Not some hallowed, celestial, mythological entity that defies comprehension or as the corrupt want us to believe. |
Is there anything, I mean anything normal in Nigeria. Now we have to add pressure gauges to the endless list of survival devices just because no one wants to do a single honest and competent job in their lives. When we start having Chinese vulcanizers they will start to scream nationalism. |
This unfortunate statement sends all the wrong signals and reeks compromise. What signal does it send to the OPP or DPP, the IG, the institution of the EFCC, that their jobs will be nigh impossible. This man should be protecting the battered image of this government. |
C'mon, very common and very normal in thunderstorms particularly at the outset of the season. |
So even if Nigeria is as clean as a whistle, better than Sweden. Even if it is wealthier than Qatar and better run than Germany, it will still not satisfy a certain section of Nigeria. I sympathize with those who think those who truly have power are in the least interested in the security and welfare of the majority of Nigerians. I make bold to say that economic status has no bearing or effect on fundamentalism. We have a structural problem in Nigeria which we need to deal with first before any sort of development can occur. |
slq: This stil boils down to the fact of respectin gentleman agreement.its obvious that an agreement was receachedin 1999 between the North and the South on power sharin. The south was given to start cos the North has been in power for long (mostly through military coup).OBJ now did his 8yrs ,n instead of handing over to a healthy Northerner..choose a Chronic renal failure patient(the healthy man is thorough shaken by the enormity of task on a president office talkless of a CRF patient!!that's like one of the worst terminal diseases u can have) ....he gave up the ghost after 2 and ½ years(May his soul RIPP).The rightful tin was for the vice to complete his tenure, which he did.Power intoxicates so he went on to be re-elected...The North now feels they ve been shortchanged rightly..but power of incumbency above everyother thing ..So feeling oppressed n Denied Boko Haram n other means is wat they resorted to...Now He was to go for his second tenure in 2015 n if he succeds out of 20yrs of this new democratic dispensation...North wud have 2½yrs n the South 17½ years....so addressing this issue has to put agreements made n broken into view .The poor Nigerian masses suffer this violence the most but power won't let the president see all this.I dont really blame GEJ..its OBJ that put us in this stateNow you're beginning to talk. So its not about performance, anti corruption or merit. Its about power. |
Hmm, if they want to watch thriller instead of comedy they better outsource the case to Her Majesty's horse hairs. |
Once have I spoken, thrice has Nairaland replied. We are on a consensus here. Like my good friend. "Ah no! For Volvo vrrrmmm na 1 gallon". His jalopy gulps more gas than a nitro dragstar. On a serious note Volvo is an exotic brand in Nigeria with hazy long term survival prospects abroad so tread with caution. Great car though. Well built. |

Why the back and forth between Barca fans and the rest of the world. Fact is both sides of the argument are right. Pep is an incredible coach with an outstanding personality who has garnered more success in such a short period of time and at such a tender age than his contemporaries will ever hope for. Based on results alone he is the most successful coach of the past two decades but this has come at a cost. He is burnt out. We spoke about this last week. He has compressed a ten-year performance into four seasons and it has cost him. In November when he said he would play Messi in every match possible I knew he was practically running on empty. Now Messi is burnt, the team is burnt, even he is burnt. That is poor man management and that is where Sir Alex beats him. He knows the limits and tolerances of success. Ambition is good. Football is all about glory but it remains a sport not a fight to the finish. The way the top echelon particularly in Spain has conducted themselves leaves much to be desired. I wish Pep the best in his future endeavours. Hope his next stinct will focus more on the state of the game rather than only trophies and the win at all cost, Mourinhesque mentality that is more suited to politics. No, Chelsea didn't sack him but yes they surely did. |
faithin9ja: The following was presented by a Nigerian author and social commentator. yuzedo: This is why i want to do Corporate Communications!Or like Bush Jr. 'I smoke but I didn't inhale.' Naughty, naughty, naughty boys. Oh, well since SLS did not do the research, when the summons come he can share it amongst the team, perhaps one page each. Huh. |
Knew they would take the bait. Like the cold war spy rings no one really knows who is tasking El-Rufai. Is he the real deal or PDP deep cover, a mole planted to strike on d-day. Politricks in Nigeria never ceases to fascinate. |
mufikings: Did I hear you say " the beautiful game won"Tut-tut-tut. Don't get hot under the collar. I was refering to the game and nothing more. Not the players, not the teams, not the coaches, not the fans, not the tactics, not the pattern of play but the game as a whole. The beauty in the game of football is the never ending drama. It is a complete story of mixed emotions that will forever defy logic. It can never be completely understood or conquered. My advice to those who want to truly love football and appreciate its beauty, quit fanhood. Afterall true lovers of movies appreciate the beauty of the plot not necessarily the victory of the heros or the demise of the villans. To avoid the highs and lows of the game stay neutral. Love the game and see the beauty in every match. If you are a Madrista, yesterday was hellish but last saturday was heaven. Same with Barca, same with Chelsea, same with United, City, Arsenal, Tottenham, Liverpool, Milan, Juventus, Bayern and other teams. They've all had their highs and lows this same season. No one has it all. That is the beauty of football. Spare yourself. |
Another piece has been fitted to the puzzle. The picture gets clearer every day. |
cap28: Why is the cia not in the dock wth him? After all they funded trained and armed him, they also assistd him wth smugglng of diamonds, how did he escape frm maximum security prisn in boston only to show up later as the president of liberia? The only black man in the history of the amercn prsn system to escape successfully frm a maximum security prisn!Who is the CIA. |
So much for the superiority of the LaLiga that teams not even going to win league trophies are in the UCL finals. I think the polarisation of Spanish football between Madrid and Catalunia because of huge independent tv taking has created some false sense of dominion and with the ceaseless record breaking by both teams and their players you tend to feel perhaps there was slightly more hype than heat around Madrid and Barca. By all means both teams are exceptional but this week the beautiful game won. Arrogance has been put in place and all the talk of best player, best team, best league, best this and that ever will be put in proper perspective. Congrats to Bayern and Chelsea for ensuring the beautiful game goes on. |
How the Mighty have fallen.. The young shall grow.. You'll make it with determination and hard work.. You have to be a football fanatic before those cliches sink into your head? ? Those are normal, everyday, lessons. How many people actually pay attention to those things while watching football sef...? How many people really reflect? ? My guy, too much of everything is bad..bad..bad. I'm a fan of people supporting their clubs/teams normally, with moderation. However, when your fanaticism starts to affect you and people around you, ( )then something needs to change.
No ma'am you make it by love and attraction. That's the easiest route. If you don't have a passion for what you do or what you learn (for students) your days will surely be long. Sport is one of the most powerful tools of learning. The very nature of man is competitive so he brings his passion, his character into the practice. There are no pretenses. Yes, sometimes it brings the worst in a man but these are also instruments of education. I have seen stony faced men smile and gentlemen crack up. Am sure even the wives, sons and daughters never knew their husbands until that day. Yes, football is the 90-minute self examination. It is more than sport. It is a window on humanity itself. |
Any man who brushes his teeth twice a day is gay. Olodos!!! Americans (in general) don't fancy Football/soccer, that makes them gay? Football is the most popular sport in the world, you've tried watching the/any super bowl? That makes America a colony for gays? OP, good for you. Mr. A is yet to pay his child's school fees, he's busy weeping for Barcelona. lol. I used to be like Mr. A, but I've finally seen the light ... [s]when Arsenal won gimme high BP at my old age[/s]. ![]() Most people supporting teams and squandering their tuition on celebrating their team's victory are clueless. They don't know jack about nothing (especially the females). The whole situation is messed up. Only God can save them football fans. The sport is dangerously powerful.
Well, I think those who love the sport are more willing to put their emotions on the line rather than hiding them, perhaps with a view to discovering something about themselves they didn't know or seriously misjudged. Every aspect of a typical season is a reflection of life itself. Barca were a walking collosus but stumbled when it mattered. What does that teach you. Chelsea was once a basket case. Today they are celebrated. That is another solid lesson. So it is with United, City, Arsenal, Tottenham, Liverpool. Every team has d story and a topsy-turvy character building one. That is the story. That is the drama. That is that is the attraction. |
Fellywood: [sup][/sup]That's true sha. Life's not always fair. But after watching footy for a while, it has actually trained my emotions. Those who over-elaborate are still in school. Victories can be so good and losses make one feel downright rotten. It is a very powerful force. |
Fellywood: With the way Chelsea is shouting the house down just because for the VERY first time they defeated the great Barca with WACK football, who will not hate football?Ha, ha. You see what I mean. Envy, rage, depression, escapism, guilt.... classic. Pure passion. |
slimyem: op,you rock jor!But footy beats those sterile Colombian and Mexican soaps you love for pure, unadulterated excitement. It has everything on steroids, twice as fast and a whole lot more addictive. Talk of heartbreak - Barca, exhiliration - Chelsea, subterfuge - UEFA, betrayal - AVB, incompetence - Cakir, heroism - Torres, blunder - Terry, love - RDM and his crew, pride - Pep, disappointment - Fabregas, pretense - Alexis, blunder - Messi and even the good ol African Magic - Drogba. What more do you want in pure excitement, contained in just one match and the get fresh episodes week after week. Haba. Poster, change your ways oh. |
Kwach Imani: ...Sorry dear....whatever...he is not alone....instead of cheering your own homegrown teams to be international leagues..you cheer European leagues...and they make money out of you......besides there are soo many other sports one can be a fan of...have a nice day!The world is a global village. Tommorrow it could be ours the world watches. But wait a minute. Don't tell me all you enjoy watching is entirely home grown. That I won't believe. |
My respect on Barca is still on the same degree as it was before and it happened that the wholly of the world gather and go against barca dudes from different clubs do celebrate the loosing what i would like to understand here is what is so special about barca that the level of hatred recieving from pallies go beyond comprehensive and where is the favour which you people sticky on and mention everytime whenever barca win the match?
Because as I said last week there is a growing consensus amongst top clubs that Barca does not compete on an even keel a.k.a no fair play. I said it then that if Barca does not handle things properly there will be a blow back, a consensus that Barca cannot lose whether by fair or foul means. Initially the hue and cry was came primarily from Jose but when Wenger and lately folks at AC Milan chorused the same thing, the whole favouratism thing has gone viral. The officiating yesterday did little to stem the conspiracy activists. Though the red card was due, the spirit of fair play in a match of that magnitude should not warrant more than a yellow. The ref knew it was a game changer. He risked losing control of the match by further dissent from Chelsea players and diving by their opponents. Finally when you lower the treshold for cards he loses all credibility. Remember the penalty awarded for an off-the-ball shirt tug in the Milan match. Fine, that's the rule but if applied credibly how many players in Chelsea's game will have finished the match. Like I said, Barca is a great team. They don't need this recurring controversies. |
otokx: Pep defeated Barca not Chelsea but we warned him.Saw your earlier post. Indeed like I said last season, a few months ago and confirmed after the first leg, Pep is just not a good coach. For you to come out and repeatedly say I will stick to the same game plan time after time is very naive. If not for the Barcelona system and the quality of players at his disposal he will have found it even more difficult. Now that those players are burnt out, no thanks to his poor man-management the team is on the slide. Once the fear factor is gone even LaLiga teams will begin to flex. He has run that team into the ground. Last year I predicted that in 12 months a coach somewhere will master their system and find an antidote, meanwhile the Pep did nothing to replace Abidal at the back and Villa up front. How can you rely on your midfielders to strike and defend. The 3-4-3 diamond is great but it needs a top quality striker and an exceptional defender. They have neither. Only God knows what will happen when Andres and Xavi wind down. Pep needs to do some serious thinking and act fast before the team experiences generational transition decline, the whole of Bilbao is watching. |
If it is for Lagos they should partner the state rather than build on their own. The people alone know where it pinches. On the Apapa-Oshodi highway, I think that road is a black hole for government funds. There's no road on earth that handles such traffic that will last more than six months. Parts of it are below sea level and cannot be drained. The best solution will be to reactivate the rail line to evacuate cargo and leave the road to the state government to maintain and levy any cargo truck that chooses to ruin it. |
agbalaya: You have to reduce the volume for the soundtrack and increase it to hear what the actor are saying. My sister this is a plague in the entire television industry. Very embarassing. Even my regular morning dose of hypertension 'Focus Nigeria' on AIT, the volume keeps oscillating almost with every change of camera angle. You have to hold the RC while you work. |
