They should have brought out uniform their students will wear nah... That's not the way to go about fighting drugs, prostitution etc... They should do avid enlightenment for the students other than doing this. Yes, misplaced priority. |

semmyk: Did a quick search. Interesting findings and learned new terminology AiP (adding to the list of key terms)
@Regex: I can't find anything from their site requiring one to have an existing account with them (Barclays) - www.barclays.co.uk/mortgages/agreement-in-principle/ As indicated by @Dupyshoo, it's best to go via a mortgage broker. Just ensure you engage with a credible broker. Over time, I hope to curate a list of brokers mentioned on this forum. {Maybe, I could even ipe them to a list and do data analysis and ML/NLP on them! )
From www.barclays.co.uk/mortgages/help-to-buy/mortgage-guarantee-scheme/ "The government’s mortgage guarantee scheme enables us to offer 95% mortgages for first-time buyers and people looking to move to a new home – as long as they have a deposit of between 5% and 9.99%. It’s available for buying a property that will be your only home, and you’ll need to submit your mortgage application to us by 31 December 2023." Well, apparently, the 95% LTV won't be available to those without ILR or residency less than 3yrs. Nonetheless, it's worth exploring. I must say, without reading this and the 'email' response to @tshoboy, I won't consider Barclay for a mortgage. Hum, no wonder they say never judge a book by its cover! Thank you brother. |

codedcoder: Hello House,
I am not new here, having invested during the treasury bill days of 18%, I can say I have benefited from this thread but now I need some advice. I just got a job in Poland and the work permit has been sent to me, as a software engineer I have dreamt of getting a second leg in a country in Europe and now this happened (a dream came through)
But then, the salary is small compared to what I am currently earning as a remote engineer. Since it has always been my dream I have decided to give it a shot , get the PR and probably come back to Nigeria and now the thought of getting a house before leaving sets in. The total cash I have is 97m aside the investment in shares which is around 10m and also the pension worth 8m I don't have any other property even a car.
Therefore I have been in the lookout for a house in Lagos but those that meets my standard are between 50-60 million.
Please experts in the house, is it a smart decision to spend such amount of money in property at this point. Use it buy house in Poland. You will not regret it. |

Foreign Affairs › Re: Lavrov Says Russia Will ‘sober Up’ NATO And EU by Regex: 11:30am On Jan 21, 2023 |
pansophist: Turkey and France are empires in the dressing of a country, so they have grudges for being docile members of the US-led western order, especially the fact that nato is a tool for US foreign policy, which they have little influence over.
Also, Turkey has applied for EU membership for a long time (since 1987), but it seems like Kosovo, a new country less than fifteen years old will be admitted first.
In fact, most countries admitted to the EU applied decades after Turkey's application, but Turkey is still on pending. Turkey applied even before the soviet union and Yugoslavia broke off, but all the Baltic countries, Slovenia and Croatia, Romania, Bulgaria, and several others are already in the union.
And there is a clash between the foreign policy of each nato member state and nato. Nato implicitly expects all members state to have the same external enemies, and for the Turks, the Russians are no threat at all.
Nato needs a common enemy to justify its existence. And all Nato members must accept that enemy, to harmonize decision-making and political uniformity.
And Turkey also saw all the horrors the US did in the middle east, and how they were silent about the terrorist that was protected by Finland and Sweden (hence Turkey's refusal that they join nato).
If you were Turkey, you will not be happy, will you>? Nope, I will not be happy at all. |

Foreign Affairs › Re: War In Ukraine Has Finally Escalated by Regex: 10:37am On Jan 21, 2023 |
pansophist: The more Ukraine/US/NATO escalates the war, the harder Russia goes. Russia has not brought out its state-of-the-art weapons yet, as well as its most gallant soldiers. Those ones are reserved for the main war if it ever happens. Pound for pound, Russian soldiers are superior.
Russia is almost x4 more populated than Ukraine, so they have more soldiers, so if the death rate is mutual, Russia will still have more soldiers standing. So if the west wants Russia to destroy Ukraine totally, they should send them their most deadly weapon, and it would be gloves off for Putin.
Putin is really soft on Ukraine, and would you blame him? he considers Ukrainians a lost sheep, and doesn't want to go too hard, which would make reconciliation extremely difficult (not impossible, but difficult and longer).
If you want to have an idea of how deadly the Russians could be, read/study about the Chechen war. Ukrainian soldiers are not even in the league of those Chechen fighters, but Putin brought them to their knees.
Their capital (Grozny) was so heavily bombed, that in 2003, the UN named it the most destroyed city on earth. Just imagine the image of totally destroyed cities in the second war (e.g Warsaw) pales in comparison to how totally destroyed Grozny was.
But if you look at the images of Grozny now, you would never believe that a war happened there decades ago. The city has been totally rebuilt and looks modern, prosperous, and well-integrated back into Russia.
With that in mind, don't ever think Russia's soft hand on Ukraine is cowardice, or believe the propaganda the media says about their fighting techniques. And Russia could just drop nukes on Kyiv and end it once and for all if they are truly losing. Reminds me of what Russia did to Georgia. But now, Georgia is rebuilt. |

pansophist:

Just like Nigeria (and maybe Ivory coast and Ghana) are the only countries that made sense in the ecowas, it's the same for Nato. Apart from France, the UK, Turkey, and the US, which other countries made sense in the alliance? The rest are just dead weight.
About their 6 trillion military budget, it doesn't mean anything. As an analogy, you may buy a Lamborghini that cost millions of USD, and I will set it on fire with a lighter that cost less than one USD. Destruction is the cheapest thing on earth. Destruction cost nothing basically.
Why do billionaires have huge securities and refuse to live with the poor? you guess it right, they understand that they may have money to hire the best lawyer, doctors, and every good thing in life, but the poor have the power to destroy, everyone has a monopoly on destruction. Omo, Turkeiye is just playing mum in all these. Looking like they're tilting towards Russia. I mean they may be aiding Ukraine, but it is not as loud as Germany France and UK. |
