Only the detergent example is applicable to your argument. Let's not support overdoing of something as sensitive as pricing of basic commodities.

That isn't the case here. Some are down to middlemen. Like that of detergent. The producers reduced from ,190g to 160g and maintained the price but middlemen jerked up prices still.

Acidosis:
Not exactly, bro. Petrol is not the only input. From a business perspective, you have to consider the cost of bikes (for new riders), cost of maintenance and repairs (for older bikes), cost of 'engine oil,' and spare parts. The rider is human too, consider human capital, his rent, daily food expense required to ride properly, and tax. All these have increased in tandem with the rising inflation. The fuel is not the primary input here but the human capital.

Apply this explanation to the rest.

You also have to understand that inflation is driven by pressures on the demand and supply side of the economy. Demand-driven is the most common.
I understand your point and must admit it is valid but the difference between 29% and 100% increases cannot be explained entirely with those factors.

Family › My Sad Observation About The Current Wave Of Inflation by RepoMan007(op):
I believe we are all aware of the current wave of inflation or price increase of basic necessities.
I have come to the observation of excess price increase among Nigerians that's not in tandem with input material increases. I will give some personal examples to buttress my point.
Example One - We all know petrol has gone up from around N170 to around N220 per litre on the average. Now that's a 29.4% Increase in basic input for transporters, but a motorcycle ride of N50 is now N100. That's an 100% increase and not in sync with petrol price increase.

Example Two - I buy USB cable once in a while and we all know these thing are imported so depend on forex exchange rate. The issue is a cable of N250 is now N800 and in some instances even lower in quality.
That's a 320% Increase in response to a less than 50% increase in forex rate.

Example Three - Detergent of 190 grams going for N110 is now 160 gram and going for around N180. When you check well the overall increase doesn't correspond to the forex rate increase which affects basic cost of imported raw materials.

Example Four - Cow Beef. Yes, cow beef.
We all know most cows graze on grass and their transportation cost increases are marginal. But then cow sellers have adjusted as though they are feeding on human food that has doubled in prices. Now that's a little bit out of place if you ask me.

Price increase is necessary to keep business afloat when input cost increases but then not in a greedy manner that will come back to hurt too many people.
At this point, I like to call upon consumer protection and market regulation agencies to act. They aren't created to complain about DSTV and MTN price increases alone like South African businesses are the only foreign investments in Nigeria

Thank you.

Nigeria is hard but not a good enough reason to turn towards yahoo yahoo menace.
Money is sustained in value by a constant production cycle and your choice of going into fraud is like choosing to reduce what is produced to back up money generally while running after money blindly thereby aggrevating the current cost of living crisis.
Look for something you can do very well and seek help to get started with it. From food, transportation, telecom, technician, to energy, ther e must be something you can do well and succeed. Nobody holds the title of job creator in the society.

Education › Re: Why A Nigerian University Professor Does Not Deserve More Than 200k A Month by RepoMan007: 2:36pm On Jul 20, 2022
sukkot:
In civilized countries, the rate at which your students pass out and graduate is testament to how great and efficient you are as a lecturer and so a professor in harvard would say I AM A GREAT LECTURER BECAUSE ALL MY STUDENTS PASSED AND GRADUATED.

This is the bragging rights of any professor in civilized countries.

Meanwhile this failure of a professor in Nigeria bragging right is how many students fail his class and drop out of the department and get kicked out of the university. This is the bragging right of this failure who is too brain dead to understand that if most of your students are failing and being kicked out of the university it is a testament of how bad of a lecturer you are.

I hereby henceforth submit that all Nigerian lecturers should be put on a salary of 200 thousand a month because that is what they deserve. They dont deserve more than that until they can make sure that all their students graduate and know what they are doing after they graduate.
I share your sentiment.
200k is actually six times the basic minimum wage and I see no reason why people should have such disparity in earning yet shoulder comparable responsibilities.

Aregbesola killed Osun State. Oyetola must be really skillful to have managed to keep the state afloat. As we speak Osun is on negative federal allocation because debts are being deducted from source. Many people don't know the situation Aregbesola left Osun State. I just dey laff oooooo......the man has done his best, it's time to move on and allow Adeleke to also try. Let's see what Adeleke can do differently. I remember how soludo was making noise everywhere until when he saw the books his complaints started. Less than 6months he's demanding for a loan of 100billion naira already. Lol.......
Same kind of situation Buhari has put his successor in. The debt will inspire a similar blame of past govt by the next govt and Nigerians will be forced to revolt because the hardship will be so much that they will not want to wait until the next election to execute a change in direction of affairs.

Our case as a country is very sad.
