on4a: ![]() Its just a game embedded in tradition. Its usually very funny when you witness it, just that some mean in-laws tell their daughters to overdo it because they are corrupt or hungry. The groom is to accompany the spraying with subtle jokes to enable her smile, the MC also help in this regard. Sometimes some brides burst laughter even before you know it. Na corruption and love of money don turn the thing to war now...lol |
YoungLionken:Its because the OP is not well informed. I don't blame him for trying to trivialize it since it is typical of Nigerian girls to be mean. However, that scene is just tradition in Ijaw Marriage ceremonies. The groom and his family and friends are to spray the bride with money till she smiles or laugh. Good evening |
adebenson155:Lol. You didn't need to insult though. Its just a tradition in Ijaw Marriage ceremonies. The groom and his friends are to spray her till she smiles or laugh. Some wicked brides overdo though... Lol Its just tradition |

Some Nigerians with warped mentality. We love and caress those that are obviously cheating the system. The number of bad people, senile youths will not allow this country move forward. |

Mask mandate while border is wide open for all manner of people to come in, tells the whole story that Nancy Pelosi is a two faced individual laced with extravagant hypocrisy. You deny people certain services for not taking vaccine. Now, those that are fully vaccinated are asked to put on mask again. Isn't such not going to discourage those that are yet to take the vaccine from doing so? |
It is very difficult to find one reason why this man fought so hard to become president. His people are eating themselves; the large majority of people outside his group are disappointed and see nothing good in him being a president; even his family is disappointed with his enormous level of cluelessness. This president is a point to prove that, Persistence and perseverance don't always lead to something good. Traveled over two thousand miles to attend a virtual conference...wonders indeed never ends |

They don't say this whenever they visit Aso Rock. This speech is more or less like, telling the people what they want to hear. |
DarkPheonix:God bless you, and may your days be long. For years, I've tried my best to avoid any argument concerning US vs Russia here because most commentators write from a place of deliberate ignorance. But you, you finally said what I've been waiting for. The heart of Russia- Moscow was almost conquered if not for the intervention of the USA like you rightly said. Same thing for Paris too. What most people don't understand when making comments about Russia or any other country having Nuclear weapons is, most of their nuclear arsenal is not active. It will take days, weeks, months to prep them for operational deployment. Furthermore, Russia does not need 6,000 nuclear weapons to destroy the USA. Likewise, the USA does not need 5,000 nuclear weapons to destroy Russia. They can destroy each other with less than 10 nukes if they are successfully delivered. If I'm correct, delivery system, radar system, interceptors, defence system, economy etc are equally as important as the nukes. No country can win a war with hungry soldiers. The USA is the leader of the present world system because it can project power all around the world without much or no consequences. We can't say same for other power blocs especially if the US is involved. |
Charmingrascal:That's how you identify someone that's suffering from intellectual hemorrhage. Abject poverty is not peculiar to any region in Nigeria. Rather than condemn those responsible for this ubiquitous problem, he decided to drag a whole ethnic group through the mud. The above is the reason why the East has more enemies than friends |
aribisala0:It is very unfortunate that when Nigerians realize a gap in their ability to reason, they resort to throwing tantrums. I don't want to join issues with you. It is very obvious you've substituted civility for discourteousness |
KaluwisxPRO:I swear, I had to laugh while reading this comment. Thank God we have a baseline agreement that they are thieves, the reason they are not free to do their job. @bold, Senators not free to express their mind like you opined is a big shame in our democratic experience. What about the APC reps/senators from the South if the president is only robbing aboniki balm on PDP legislators. What is the reason for their docility? |
aribisala0:Okay |
KaluwisxPRO:You're right, but what I don't quite understand is if you are trying to develop a reason why the senators are useless in this case. Lawan can shot down a motion, or overrule a Senator or procedure. But what I can tell you that Lawan cannot and does not have the powers to pass a bill all by himself. If Southern Senators don't vote with their conscience because they belong to the APC, then they are only useful to the APC but useless to the people they are representing. Exactly the point I'm trying to raise here. It is an anathema for Senators to be useless to the people they represent. A political party is below the people in a democratic order. They are useless to the people because it is rigging that gave them those seats, not whether Lawan is muscling them. If the people are really the givers of political power which Democracy prescribed, they can't afford to respect Lawan and APC more than the PEOPLE they represent. They are morons, and nothing less |
Coldie:It will surprise you to know otherwise that they are together, after collecting money from the powers that be. |
Gentlerespect76:Gerrymandering |
While there is no good reason to personally respond to this poorly assembled write up, allowing this narrative to thrive unaddressed will be a big disservice to common sense, and the reading public. Firstly, the body of your work is at variance with the title. You made a strong claim that "A poor Nigeria would be better than a rich Biafra/Oduduwa Nation". Rather than give compelling reasons to substantiate the above claim, you ended up asking meaningless and ludicrous questions. Curiously I want to ask OP. Who is this nonsensical questions meant for? Is it same people you've already insulted with your choice of title? Secondly, your questions are poorly assembled. Your focus ought to have been; how will parliamentary or presidential system of government affect the already existing fault lines in Yoruba society vis a vis the homogeneous nature, and polarization of Yorubas into three equal parts that you queried. Furthermore, you did not mention why Nigeria is so poor and lawless today. Is it because we practice parliamentary/presidential system, or because we adopted conventional/customary law? If a poor and lawless Nigeria of today would be better than a Yoruba Nation or Biafra of tomorrow, then it is animals that will likely be their citizens. Nigeria is poor and lawless today not because of presidential/parliamentary or Conventional/Customary law. It is because there is no "JUSTICE" Lack of Justice enthrone apathy, greed, corruption, etc. When there is no justice, there would be no accountability, and when that happens, there would be lawlessness. As a leader, you don't apply the same law in different ways under the same conditions. This is the reason why most people are resentful towards anything "Nigeria" It is the combination of the above that has led some citizens to develop apathy towards the Nigerian Project. The result which is their current agitation to go their separate ways. Interestingly OP, the Nigerian experience will be a big learning curve for the new nations if by any chance they emerge. So making wild claims that Nigeria will be better than them is really unnecessary, especially without any evidence or logical explanation to back up your claim. It is a shame that most young Nigerians don't submit themselves to the torture of critical thinking before writing about a national discourse as serious as Disintegration. There is a reason you don't find cockerel in the jungle. My advise is, go and play with sand because it is obvious this topic is too sophisticated for you to grapple with. |

If only we can do basic things right, and get things working in our own country. We have the capacity to excel everywhere and anywhere. Congratulations Ann |
A 20-year-old Ijaw student from Rivers State, Miss Alaba Ann Tam Danagogo, is the 2021 overall best scholar at the Syracuse University in New York, the United States of America (U.S.A). Graduating with distinctions in Biology Major and Minor in English and Textual Studies, among other academic accomplishments, Alaba was also awarded the prestigious 1870 scholarship by the university for another four-year Medical Studies. One thing is common with who we are, once given a level playing field, we Excel. Congratulations Ann #Excellence #ProudlyNigerian MODs, this is front page worthy. The level of insecurity is getting out of control. Poverty, general hopelessness is responsible for this new low |
It is quite unfortunate that President Buhari just like an unwanted pregnancy always finds himself in unwanted territories. His identity, travels, press statements etc and virtually every other thing he does appears questionable. A president that is always in need of a second statement to clarify whatever he is doing. The above speaks volume of a president that is either empty, or is always confused. |

There was no State of Israel before 1948. The State of Israel was created after the resettlement of Jews that fled from Europe during the Holocaust. The history of that land goes a long way back, but few years before 1948, the land was a British mandate after the conquest of the Ottoman Empire (Turks) during WW1 |
rakish:I've treated your question in my lead post. In international politics, Power belongs to the super structure. Law, morality/ethics etc belongs to the substructure. International law most often is a mere expression on paper when it does not align with the interest of the Big Players. In this case, the US is involved so "Might is Right" |
onuman:@first paragraph: I still maintain my position that "in war, everything is fair". International law is just a question of morality, and not law in the actual sense because it does not have a clear instrument of enforcement. How far a country can express her interest, be it in war, in the international system depends on the ingredients of "Power" at her disposal. The US has violated international law and rules of engagement on several occasions, no one has held her accountable. Russia has done same in Crimea, Georgia etc. China is not excluded. International law is the cumulative interest and morality of the Big-5. You cannot successfully talk about morality or obedience to law in international politics without acknowledging Power. Realism has taught me that I don't need to pretend or drag foot over mere words on paper. @second Paragraph: Hamas is designated as a terrorist organization by the West, therefore does not have the ethical authority to approve the existence of the State of Israel. Whatever sentiments they have is inconsequential because it cannot influence State-Actors. The United Nations only recognizes the Palestinian authority headed by Mahmoud Abass, and not Hamas. Gaza has been under blockade by Egypt and Israel since 2006 because of Hamas. Since the turn of this dispensation, especially from 2000, the United Nations General Assembly has made several efforts to remove the status of Palestine as an Observer State, but the US has vetoed it each time. If that is not an impediment towards the process of making Palestine an independent country, I don't know what is. |
