InvestmentRe: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by Rhea: 8:22pm On Sep 11, 2011
I need some advice from those among us who are experts in stock broking in Nigeria. I recently learned that my stock broker's company has been liquidated. Their license has been withdrawn by NSE. Some years ago, I bought some shares on the stock market through them. Thereafter, when I sensed a drop in the quality of service they were offering to me, I tried to transfer my shares to another stock broking firm, but my broker kept cooking up cock and bull stories about how difficult it is to get "management in Lagos" to sign off on my transfer request. He suggested I sell the shares altogether - an advice I was not keen to heed since I regarded those stocks as long term investments.

I do not remember ever opening a CSCS account through them. I know for sure that my stocks still exist since I receive my dividends and bonus shares as and when due. I have not hand over the bonus shares certificates to them; thus they were only "managing" the original stock holdings for me. As a client, neither my broker nor his company bothered to let me know that they were having any kind of financial trouble nor about to fold up. Anyway, I am trying to lay my hands on my holdings, thus the following question:

Does anyone know the modalities/procedure for re-assigning those shares that I have to another stock broker?

Thanks for all your responses

PoliticsRe: Ex-naval Chief's Wife Orders Arrest Of Employee's Wife, Kids by Rhea: 6:11pm On Sep 09, 2011
¶1. (U) Two local newspapers reported on March 22 and 23
that a 50-year old female civilian, Gloria Ekeh, was shot by
Chief of Naval Staff Afolayan's security detail. The
newspapers reported that Ekeh's car collided with one of the
Naval Chief's escort vehicles, causing an accidental
discharge by one of the security personnel. The papers
reported that Ekeh was shot in the leg and immediately taken
to the National Hospital in Abuja by a Naval vehicle. She
was reported to be recovering, with all treatment costs borne
by the Navy.

¶2. (S/NF) This incident occurred in the vicinity of the
Embassy and was witnessed by a highly-trained and experienced
TDYer from the Office of Defense Cooperation. His account
differs greatly from the public account put forward by Navy
Headquarters. The ODC member came upon a motor vehicle
accident involving at least one GON vehicle on Maitama
Avenue, across from the headquarters of the State Security
Service (SSS), on March 18 at approximately 1545Z. The ODC
member saw 2-3 individuals in police custody in the rear of a
security vehicle, and a woman, stooped down in a submissive
posture, pleading with a uniformed police officer. The ODC
member then heard a single gunshot, saw the woman lying in
the street, and saw a non-uniformed individual returning a
pistol to a holster concealed under his suit. The uniformed
police officers did not react to the shooting in any way
other than to try to clear the crowd away and to move the
woman to a car, which was driven away. The ODC member could
see that her feet and legs were covered in a "massive amount"
of blood. The ODC member was then ordered to leave the area
by a hostile, non-uniformed individual who threatened to
"flatten the tires" of the ODC member's vehicle (which had
diplomatic license plates) if he did not comply.

¶3. (S/NF) Neither Navy Headquarters nor Chief of Naval
Staff Afolayan has made any public comment disputing the
events as portrayed in the press. Post intends to consider
Afolayan complicit in this extrajudicial shooting, and to bar
the Chief of Naval Staff from participation in any USG-funded
security assistance events.

RomanceRe: Wife Pregnant For Boyfriend by Rhea: 11:56am On Sep 01, 2011
What a dilemma!

However, one assumption that has been made here by many is that the husband will not accept the baby. I think she may even have a hard time in the future trying to convince the man that he is NOT the father of the baby. This is a man who may be impotent and all of a sudden, he has the opportunity to laugh again and probably stick the thumb out to those who have been laughing at him for 6 years now. Like one poster already said, the woman has now confirmed (like she set out to do from the onset) that she is not barren. So she should go ahead and tell the husband that she is pregnant. If the man buys the dummy, then she definitely will have to reveal the true identity for the child's father some day in the future, because the true father will definitely claim paternity, and then wahala go set.

So, ebonyvibe tell your 'friend' to carry out her plan to completion. The worst that can happen is that the marriage crumbles.

"THE "UN BUILDING BOMBLAST" IN NIGERIA, MATTERS ARISING:
While I condemn any act of terrorism and violence, I couldn't fathom some logic and sense in the claims, responsibility and responses to the unfortunate incident of yesterdays bombing.

1. The level of laxity in the Nigerian security is quite appalling and not willing to improve despite incidences of repeated bombings in the capital city of Abuja in the last six months.

3. My question is; Everyone is pointing fingers to an alleged "suicide bomber" but no one is showing a footage of the incident. Who are the witnesses? An office and international organisation such as the UN building doesn't have a CCTV camera? Its illogical.

4. I'm not exonerating anybody, but I'm beginning to lose credibility for the news of claims by Boko Haram terrorist group most of the time. In how many months of escalated bombings there seem to be no "faces" that can be linked to the group. Like Alqaeda, at least we know the faces behind the terrorist group and their modus operandi. In this case, with every claims to BH bombings we are left with no faces no just statements. Which can be done by anybody, or are there "ghost workers" in the Boko Haram terrorist organisation?

5.Since Oct 1 of last year, Nigeria has been reported to have 5 incidents of bomblast. The security agencies are yet to show a face that will be linked as a top member of the Boko Haram Group.

There will always be  questions to these bombings in Nigeria but no logical answers. Its time for the Nigerian security agencies to change tactics and wake up from their lethargic approach in this renewed global fight against terrorism.

Too many ignorant fools in Nigeria.

CIA and the US came up with : by 2015, Nigeria is going to break up.

Nigerians : they keep arguing with eachother, na lie, na true, instead of fiercely debunking and verbally attacking the CIA and the US for coming up with such an assertion over a sovereign country like Nigeria.

While they are still at arguing with eachother.

The CIA and the US bomb up a UN building in the process.

Nigerians : they start attacking eachother and accusing eachother.

The CIA and the US laughs at them and call them fools while working towards the main aim. (establishing REASONS why NIGERIA MUST break up).

Before 2015, they move in their military forces to come have a base in Nigeria, from there they take over just like they did and doing with Libya right now.

Una never know anything, they are also going to stop you people at their embassies if you think you can travel out of Nigeria with a Nigerian passport.

FACE YOUR FEARS, you NIGERIANS can't see/read the future even if it's shown on a 95" screen or written in your native language.
Assuming you are correct, what does the US stand to gain from disintegrating its fourth largest supplier of oil? A peaceful and united Nigeria benefits them as well.

Now that this unfortunate incident has happened, I will go ahead and hazard a guess as to what next will follow. Our beloved federal government will:
[li]Set up an adhoc committee to investigate the remote and immediate causes of this explosion. Assign official cars and portfolios to the members of the committee (lobbying has already started at Asorock)

Fly in bomb experts from overseas.

Fly out the "VIP victims" to overseas hospitals while the "non-VIP victims" are deposited in some decrepit local hospital where they will be on nothing but IV and paracetamol.

Propose amnesty for, dialogue with, and overseas rehabilitation for whatever group that claims responsibility for the bombing.[/li]
[li][/li]
Then, our "cheap-article" life goes on like nothing happened.

FamilyRe: Why Do Couples Look Alike After Years Of Marriage? by Rhea: 4:48pm On Aug 24, 2011
ajadudu:
Simple reason:
Everyone has facial expressions and mannerism that makes them unique. With time if you live with someone for a long time you start to mimic those expressions subconsciously. If the woman pouts her lips when surprised, the man will eventually start to mimic that expression as well when surprised. If the man raises an eyebrow when he hears something silly, the woman starts to mimic the same gesture eventually. All these facial expressions tend to mold the look and lines on our faces.

Blood mixing, intercourse? That's just BS.

FamilyRe: Why Do Couples Look Alike After Years Of Marriage? by Rhea: 4:44pm On Aug 24, 2011
All these theories, postulates and hypothesis being thrown around has little scientific backing.

Couples will begin to "look alike" to the viewer/looker who looks at them for too long. If you stare at a painting for too long, the eyes int he painting will start to move around and follow you around the room. In the same vane, if you see two people together all the time, before long, the image of one person will trigger the image of the other in your mind. They can easily be interpreted by you as one and the same or very closely related. It is all in the mind of the person viewing the couple. If however, you see a couple married for over 25 years for the first time, there is absolutely nothing about the two that will make them look the same to you. Children do not feel this way about their parents because they know absolutely nothing about how their parents looked like when they first met. So, they have absolutely no basis for comparison lest to figure out if papa is becoming more like mama or vice versa.

The genetic makeup of the man and the woman is not altered or affected by either of them. There is absolutely no exchange of genetic material even if one person donates blood to the other. However, their offspring is definitely going to assume some semblance of both parents in equal or disparate measures. That is all genetics.

Just because a child looks a bit like the father and a bit like the mother does not mean that the man will start to look a bit like the woman. That essentially happens in the mind of the person doing the looking.

The sperm or ovum released by the man/woman does not alter the genetic make up of the man/woman in any form or shape whatsoever. Every genetic information a man/woman possesses has already been completely packaged and assigned to him/her during fertilisation in the mother's womb.
I have lived in Moscow and Sakhalin Island both in Russia, let me start by saying it all depends on where you live and what you intend to do in Russia.

There is a significant racist community in Russia

A lot of Russians have never seen a black person before or come in close contact with a black person so they might see you as a star and want pictures with you or your autograph believing you might be a star!

Now listen, Russian women are amongst the most beautiful women in the world, as a single man, if you live in Russia whether you born again or born before grin it is almost as sure as death that you will marry a Russian and as a Married man living in Russia alone without your wife, it is almost guaranteed that you will always stay married but to a different woman grin grin and your current wife will need to look for a new husband

Moscow is very expensive as a regular breakfast in a 4 or 5 star hotel cost about £50 and locals are not well paid

My summary is this, no matter where you live in this world apart from Naija, you can make the place fit for you but in Naija it is the opposite

I rest my case
Moscow? Aberdeen? Sakhalin? Oily. Yoru-Igbo grin. Lovely name/combo. Sounds like one of my friend before before. True talk shaa (about Russia)

PoliticsRe: 5 Reasons Why America Is Worse Than Nigeria by Rhea: 7:36pm On Jul 23, 2011
@Odumchi:

Your arguments are valid in some aspect, but do not hold water in some.

1. Debt: The key difference here is that in the US, no matter what you do, you must honor your debt and pay back. In Nigeria, you can be jobless and survive by concocting one bullshit story or another, borrow 10K each from 10 friends and never pay back. You can even threaten them to submission and after a while, it falls into bad debt. Report to the police? grin

2. Stress: You are correct that in Nigeria, you are the boss and decide when to go to work. That is the same attitude and mentality displayed by the average Nigerian civil servant. In the US, no work, no pay. It is that simple. Most Nigerians that log on to Nairaland do so from the office during work hours and spend the entire working hours on Nairaland, Facebook and other social networks. So much for productivity. And they still get paid.

3. Professional Devalue: The degrees we earn in Nigeria are as valuable as we deem them. How many employers in Nigeria consider your degree as the primary criteria for employment over who you know and who you sleep with? Most brilliant student in Nigeria are products of their individual self efforts and not of the glorified universities that we have. It should not be news that our standard of education has long been relegated to the gutters. I am also a product of that system, so we are all part of the mess.

4. Prices: The only time you mentioned which is actually cheaper in Nigeria is housing.

5. Cultural Diffusion: That is the most important difference between both countries. However, your children will always learn what you teach them. They will always copy you first before they venture away from home. You need to observe some Nigerian parents and their attitude when they come back home, especially at the airports. By their fruits, you shall know them.
