gmolen: I am a Christian not because i simply want to gain heaven at the end, but because being a true Christian (i.e., living like Christ and not just by being a member of a church) is the best life to live. As a true Christian, u learn not to be anxious about anything, ur are at peace with ur self and with others, u re contented with wht u re have, u live a humble and quiet life, u shun a manner of wickedness most people are involved in with its asociated negative consequencies. etc. Infact, u live life to the fullest and enjoy internal peace and joy most people lack. Any act of worship a true Christian renders to God be it prayer, fasting, tithe/offering etc are done voluntarily in response to God's love. So, even if there was no heaven, i would stil choose to be a Christian because by so doing, i have nothing to loose, but everything to gain in living a better life here on earth.in other words christianity helps you to maintain some moral balance and sanity in life. It is therefore safe to say besides christianity, you could have been practising some other religion with thesame moral tenets and even more, like islam, hindu, satanism and so on. They all have one central theme, do unto others what you would like them do to you but in reality they actually don't follow such to the letter. So I get your point, in your own case, you can't seem to imagine a life where you will be confident enough to make your own rules about life-moral, business, social, beliefs etc-unless of course you have the guidance of a book written by men who mostly are anonymous and may have been influenced by astro-religious beliefs of the time they existed and may not have been catering to the religious beliefs of today's believers. Well, that is instructive but will be living a lie. That will be living someone elses life and will, somebody you don't know and can't even proof if he realy existed. Anyway, so people want more, I want more. |
Sagamite: Brilliant questions I am sure their medieval illiterates living in an era of harshness did not think about when they were fantasing about some great land where the streets flow with honey.chai Saga beat me to it. I was going to add this 5th question but it skipped my mind. You could not have said any better. Wont one be so resentful that they get to spend eternity all alone in eldorado heaven while their friends, brothers, fathers, sisters and loved ones roast in hell all because this god made it wild goose chase to know him or understand what he is all about. Even the issue of opportuned repentance you raised in the latter part of your post shows a glaring error in god's justice system. Infact, come to think of it, the Pauline theology is in full agreement with opportunistic repentance and heavenly inheritance. Seriously, if most of this god's rulings, promises, verdicts and even his way of doing things were contested in court, he will most definitely be exposed as a confused man that is in the habit of confusing and contradicting himself. I mean, how do you explain a bad a$$ that has caused people serious pains with the eagle eyes of God watching their sufferings only for this bad a$$ to repent 5min before his death and go straight to heaven like every other nutjob believer that have probably stayed numb in repentance all their lives. Yet everyone and everything is perfect even with rapists, killers, homosrxuals(lol), fraudstars, and so who repented just some few ours back. What kind of justice system is that? |
Onwero ife meganu. Mana gini mere i ji abanyekari na nsogbu mgbe obula?
hahahahah. . . . That guy is a character. Did he just say Rochas gets a hard-on on anything Anambra including their livestock. . .brouhahahahahah. . . Okija iwu onye ara. . .lol |
Ayomivic: Christians believed in life after death, that is the reason we are struggling to make heaven.Christians are travellers in this world,we have a place in focus. that place is our gain of being christian. You know there's something borderline dubious in the notion that there stand to be a reward for one's belief in something in the afterlife. You probably would have cared less if the idea of heaven and hell was not in the equation, I guess. This shows how selfish the "religious mindset" is, it is all about what one gets in the end and nothing more. This fact is even evident in many christian songs and way of doing things. Well, I have got a few questions for religious people with such mindset; Christians and Muslims alike. 1. When you get to this heaven that has been promised, what exactly will you all be doing? I once heard a christian say: worship God. For eternity? Is he that bored? Is that not another form of slavery in itself? Won't you rather go to hell or stay put on earth? 2. In what form will you exist in heaven? A baby, the age in which you died, a youngstar or is there like an average age for every heaven entrant? And then what happens to one's memory? Do you lose all of it the moment you die or you go on with it to heaven? Do you remember relatives and friends or you become total strangers in heaven? Who wants to live that kind of torture? 3. The question of consciousness and self-will seem all too strange in the equation of heaven. Do people have free-will like they do on earth? Can I for instance, take my own decision and say; "today, I don't want to worship God, I want to stay home and 4ck my wife?" I ask this because if there's realy free-will and consciousness, at some point, the issue of sin will come up again even in heaven and then we would have to grapple with the fact that it aint afterall, a perfect place as described. Unless of course heaven is another case of thou shall not do this and that, which also raises the question again; why create laws if everyone is perfect and do not have the ability to sin. 4. By the way, how long realy is eternity? If you can answer these questions logically without resorting to incongruous and illogical explanation then may be, I mean, "MAY BE" I will give this your heaven a thought. |
Mad Cow: Lol...hahahahha. . . . You and your ways eh. Ok, I will tell his excellency that one mad cow on NL has ordered that he stays clear off Oku Ndi Anambara or else i ge gbawa ya ishi. . .lol |
ooman: Am not a satanist, am just trying to fight for the right of everyone to live their life completely free.Oh, I see. Was just curious anyway. I have never had to debate with one, will be refreshing to hear them out. I have heard all sorts but satanists seem like a breed on another level. |
ooman: hahahahah. . . . Are you a satanist? Just asking? And what does that realy mean anyway? |
Mad Cow: Mr. Rhymz....hahahahaha. . . Nna relax jor. . . Awu m nwa afor Imo state but that is not the issue. I just felt reduced the whole thing to Imo vs Anambra fight and threatening with Chino and co was down right insulting like they were some demi-Gods. Anyway, ayin ni le wu cha umu nne. . .no need quarrelling over non-issues. |
The other day one guy was busy yapping about how herod gave orders that every 3 yr old male and below be slaughtered on hearing about the birth of Christ, I laughed so hard I started having headaches. The only places where one finds most of all these superstory is the new testament and its greatly unknown authors. I am sure Jesus and John the baptist were contemporaries born in thesame place, how come John survived this fictitious massacre. Too many fabricated stories with stupifying illustrations and exaggerations. |
Logicboy03: https://www.nairaland.com/1195141/catholics-make-best-atheists-becauseI think I have come across that thread before but I was obviously not interested in arguing with proponents who clearly did not even fully understand the historicity of their so-called holy book. The other guy was busy wipping them facts they were too dumb to accept. . .lol funny how a lot of people argue for their religion just because they were indoctrinated into it and nothing concrete. It beats my imagination at times, human beings are truly dumb in numbers. |
ooman3: nice post you put up.if only they knew how greatly distorted the so-called "holy bible" is, they will drop it and start asking some daring questions ot currently forbids them from asking. Like who wrote those individual books that gathered up to become the bible. Who turned them canonical, some God or the catholic priests? I was born a catholic, I know a lot about their bullshyts and invention. They own the bible and anything christianity has got to claim. I don't even have time for late comer evangelicals who know nothing besides what their smooth talking funky pastor says or preach, they are a pathetic lot. |
You trying so hard to come across as smart but you obviously are a phoney pretender looking for attention, that I can tell you without mincing words. |
striktlymi: Having difficulty comprehending?read your ow mumbo-jumbo and explain it. |
so na who come change im name from Jacob to Isreal? God or Angel? |
ijawkid: And who the hell said it was GOD that was beaten black and blue by jacob??.......lol |
ijawkid: And who the hell said it was GOD that was beaten black and blue by jacob??....... |
LOL That's Okija Juju.
are you sure about that? That guy sef abd his bi-polar ways. I know he is very much an Igbo man but love to unrattle other Igbos with his funny and crazy antics. . .na person wey never understand am dey vex for im deliberate incitement of Igbo posters. . .lol |
striktlymi: I am really disappointed to say the least! Now I am being forced to call you a DOLT. Do you have problems outlining what realy your article wished to address? All you did was complain and jeered in that piece you did not say anything that required any intelligent contribution, just some percieved and pre-conclude notions flying up and down without anything concrete being said. I wonder why self-righteous people like you always assume everyone has to be an atheist to question the authenticity of the Jesus story or a sky God that sits nowhere. Scheeew, you are prolly disappointed cos your antics has become obsolete and too well known to be taken seriously. Not everyone on NL is Numbskull just for not sharing your beliefs you know? |
Yes, APC will box PDP into coma in 2015, that's very certain, but Sovereign National Party of Nigeria (SNP) will make serious inroads in the 2015 election. SNP is a mass movement of Nigerian youths who are certain to take over power from the present corp of old, over recycled and completely worn out politicians who, in all of the last 14 years in power, have offered Nigerians nothing other than monumental corruption, now quoted in trillions of naira, boko haram/general insecurity, cultism, kidnapping, election malpractices and stolen mandates, justice for money, rising cost of living, high and ever growing rate of unemployment, decaying infrastructures, lies, fairytales and fiction, deceit, etc. Nigerian youths who constitute more than 80% of voters are determined to use this strength to enforce this change through the ballot in 2015. Are you a Nigerian youth? Come join the movement of the youths, for the youths and by the youths. For more info, visit www.sovereignnationalparty.com. and register as a member of SNP - the change agent. Welcome aboard.
in calabar accent: mbok, okon war'are you ralking about ![]() |
Like seriously, Logicboy has become a star of some sort. . .lol. . This guy obviously is trying to get his attention. Hahahah . . .guy you don popular as the guy wey dey give Jesus childrien headaches. I remember one guy like that on Linda ikeji's blog using you as an example of a logic guy. . .i laugh tire sha cos small small small your friends go begin know your religious stance then you go become evil pikin influenced by demons. . .lol. . I know that tag all too well when I decide to poke my christian friends...lol |
striktlymi: Don't tell me you do not know that there is no such word as "or rather" in English.Again, I ask, what is your topic about if it aint a dog fisticuff? |
kmcutez: The word you should be looking at is "or rather" not just "or". "or rather" here means "or more exactly; or more accurately". So you will have to take the agnostic, not the atheist. example, he is my teacher, or rather he was my teacher. in this sentence he is trying to be more accurate.hahahaha. . .apparently, this thread has gradually turned into an english language session since the OP clearly has no direction of purpose of what is it he wants to talk about. In the topic he is saying else, reading the article leaves you even more confused as to what he is on about. Why not just come clean and say you want a dog fight, instead of this redundant antics. . .lol |
striktlymi: Good morning,By the way, what exactly is it that you are on about intelligence and all that general talk. Do you expect anyone to address a piece that obviously addresses nothing besides childish complaints that bothers on petty stuff. You obviously are itching for some Atheist vs Christian dog fight. Don't pretend like you know any better either. |
striktlymi: Are you sure you know what this thread is about?I understand the undertones underneath these threads than the easily deciphered surface you think you understand. I am not new in nairaland or to the arguments on religion and beliefs. I even have threads where I argued at length with some christian die-hards. So cut the BS. There is too much emphasy especially by christians, like a we against them kind of thread. As we speak there is already one headlining on the front page. Na wetin sef. Abi una wan strap bomb just to force people to believe the incredible Jesus story? |
lol.....only fools will feel sorry for tha ashawo |
You are still not inline and your comments need to be arranged to help me read and comprehend, in other wards isn't it better we shun this meaningless argument hence you are not getting it?
whatever, move on.... I am in no argument with you. |
mehn, I have been observing from sidelines the avalanche of threads against atheism mostly by christians. Na wa o. Are folks that bothered about what people choose to believe or is this just a ruse by Seun and his uncreative mods to get traffic. To believe in Jesus or A God is not by force na. Openly I am regarded as a christian for convenience sake but by conviction, I will be the last person to believe that Jesus story clap-trap and Mr Paul's miraculaous conversion that bred christianity. Common sense is all that is needed to see all that farce. Enuff said abeg. |
Does this comment above meant for me as a reply to me earlier quote? Why i asked is because it seems not to be in line with the comment you quoted.
well, apparently, I ve modified it. . .it was actually for cyber g. But I have responded to your post regardless |
Try to read before you quote me, i am not against Rochas joining any party he deem fit.I am a person that doesn't believe everyone must agree on my view or opinion, i respect people and respect their decisions. You are not more Rochas supporter than me,check all my posts on NL in every thread related to Rochas and see my stance. I am not against Rochas decision to join any party of his choice. I am only against how him rochas is trying to drag all igbos into this merger that burn out of his selfish political ambition, secondly i am against how rochas is bent on destroying APGA. rochas due to his arrogant nature he refused to be loyal to the party he joined just two to three years back, trying to overshadows those who was and has been the pillars that hold APGA till date, this attitude is totally unacceptable. I don't belong to the categories of those who support evil. Anyone who accused Rochas of been evil used against Ndigbos to destroy our political party that was left for us by our great leader Dim Ojukwu as his last legacy must be right. IN A SIMPLE LANGUAGE ROCHAS IS VERY RUSHY AND HE APPEARED TOO DESPERATE IN THESE WHOLE THING
apparently, you are the one that does not understand his onw comment. So am supposed to take journalistic embelishment like Rochas being the bride of the party or Igbo leader by the writer seriously to the extent of making these confusing comments you are making and continue to make. Nwa nne, understand your own arguments first before rushing to cry blue murder. There is nothing else to discuss with you here. |
CyberG: In politics, you cannot expect leadership to just be giving to you. The mindset that the presidency "should be given" to you is wrong, people aspiring to leadership plan it consisitently over a period of time, start from more junior positions and show that you can lead 160 M in 36 states after showing what you can do at a lower level but then, you must still convince the electorate and win their votes and support to help you win. They will just NOT give it to you. Again like I said before, objectively speaking, you cannot ask the leaders/iniators of the merger to work for 4+ years, and then just put it up to an untested person - it is totally against the grain of common sense and principle. Buhari started all over again after being betrayed and schemed out of ANPP to win 12 states, the ACN started over again after AD was sabotaged from 6 states to 1 state and then came back stronger with ACN now controlling 6 states and doing much better than ever before, would you rather put the combo of these 2 down to elevate another party which has 1 leg in 1 leg out, divided, 1.5 largely unproven governors with 1 not being part of the coalition? This is exactly my problem with you, arrogating some fictitious power to certain people to choose who which tribes or political parties have done enough to be chosen. Don't you see how you sound? The APC is just starting out for 4ck sake, it is neither ACN or CPC, it is a merger for crying out loud not owned by Tinubu or Buhari. You keep talking about their contribution, what exactly have they contributed to the merger that is even yet to take off? They don't even have structures anywhere, no constitutions, am not even sure INEC has recognized them and there you are talking about it like you were talking about an Igbo man joining Arewa or Odudwa congress. Nobody has contributed anything yet, don't foretell stories here biko, they are starteing out and everyone has equal rights to contest for any position, nobody cares who or what made the move to form the merger, the major point there is that it is a merger of different political parties with one common aim, to wittle down the the strength of the opposition. Shikena. All that claptrap about controlling 36 states is BS and a redundant ruse that is self-serving and selfish. By the way, I have read my Last post, they convey exactly what I mean. |
CyberG: If you come with a stick, I will retaliate with bullets. When anyone makes a statement I find offensive, I will respond but here, we are just airing individual opinions. Look, you need to be able to separate sentiments from factual reality. FACT: I don't have a party, I can pity people in Nigeria but whatever you do or don't affect me directly. FACT: BUHARI remains a strong force, age NOTWITHSTANDING, he delivered virtually all the states in the NORTH without bribing with billions or rigging, that is reality, not sentiments. You can. It discount that contribution to a joint effort. FACT: Asides the religious/tribal bigots who don't like him because he is a northerner/Muslim and will NEVER like him regardless of his proven records beyond most of possible options, he remains a via me candidate, very steady hand, principled, disciplined and will not condone corruption - Nigeria's biggest problem today. FACT: ACN-CPC have far (far) more experience and provided leadership to create the spark that brought APC to life. If you join a company as an associate, you cannot realistically expect the company leadership to be handed to you - you must earn your way up to become a principal partner.hahahahah. . . I laugh at what you call facts. Have you lived in the north before? Or do you presently live anywhere in the north? Your facts seem more like mere wishes from an idealist. I am a very pragmatic person, I do not neccessarily go with popular opinions on issues just because everyone and the tabloids say so. If you want facts, especially as it concerns Buhari and the CPC; first you need to be or live in the north to truly guage that. I have lived in the north, was in Sokoto some days back, have conducted state by-elections as a presiding officer, so I believe I know one or two things about political loyalty in the north. Like I have always replied to people that make your kind of arguments; what kind of hugely popular candidate contest elections three times and lose all 3, of course the one made popular in the SW controlled tabloids. You are so quick to comment about his around 12million votes mostly from the north but conveniently forgot that JEG got an impressive 8million votes from thesame region where Mr Buhari is supposed to be the numero uno. You forget that beyond the rhetorics of free and fair elections on the surface, most of what took place underneath is less flattering, I mean from both parties. We had child voters coming out multiple times to vote on the compulsion of their mallams who had collected huge sums from the holy CPC agents. Dare say you wont accredit them when thier names and info are already on the voter's register and risk being maimed. How they did that is tnrough their love for Buhari I guess. My guy to tell you the facts, Buhari is just as popular as any past Northern leader with effort and money and that is why he always seem to lose at every effort, he does not have the money or political wherewithal like the PDP to put his mouth where his money is. Politicians like IBB and Atiku will win Buhari in the north if it comes to votes and getting those northern votes. If they so love him why do they still collect money to and do the crazy election magic hands they accuse the PDP of? An average northern voter is like an average Nigerian in case you don't know, they will put their votes to the highest bidder not because of some moral beliefs they have in any politician. The ones in the realm of your assumptions-those that will vote cause they believe he is some moral god-sent are ib the minority and do not count during the counting. Buhari and his CPC is so loved cherished yet the Party is only in control of one state in the whole of the north, nice way to love somebody, Obama needs to learn from him. You think the ACN is able to win most part of the SW because they are loved emotionally by everyone? Maybe Tinubu needs to stop bankrolling the party with Lagos money during campaign and let's see how they fare against the PDP. Only a naive commentator thinks that the ACN won all the states in thier kitty by mere merit without facing the already fractured PDP rigging for rigging, throwing money around-for throwing money around and doctoring stuff in unbelievable proportions. Guy get real abeg. All of them are equally important and nobody there should exaggerate their popularity than what reality shows. Period. |
