A lot of these tribalistic goons need to grow up.
What's the difference between you and those you accused of making tribalistic comments on the Eagles vs Ethiopia thread.

So u didnt notice some of your friends referring to some of the players as Biafra players.

I think a lot of poster have self esteem issues and they all come to nairaland to post rubbish or start idiotic threads.

If the OP doesn't have self esteem issues, you will not open a thread to address something as stupid as this. Do u guys even go out and mix with people? The Nigerians on the streets from Calabar to maiduguri, down to sokoto and back to Lagos don't care about the ethnicity of the players so far the team wins.

jp philips: to dribble 17yr old nameless defenders cannot be likened to dribbling a 37yr old puyol.
Messi, Ronaldo di Lima, Pele etc obvioulsy could not dribble 37Yr olds when they were 17 too.

He has shown great talent and obviously does not belong to this level. We are only deceiving oursleves if we think they are actually 17yr olds.

Ihenacho belongs to the senior team untill he has been tested and confirmed he can not perform at that level.

Limaoscar: Leading by 2 goals to 1 but I must say that I am not very confident of this team for the following reasons;

1. Don't look like we have any wings.....for a Nigerian side coached by Garba and Amuneke especially

2. Consequent upon point no1. we have not had any corner kicks as the boys are hell bent on playing through the middle.

3. The boys are playing a European style short passes and the final ball is often cut-off

4. The shots on goal from other attackers apart from Iheanacho has been very awful.
5. They are show-boating a little and look over confident in front of goal

I think in the second half , the Nigerian coaches should bring in some wingers and advise good finishing on the final balls otherwise, this seemingly weak but tactically better Mexican side will win this match by at least 3-2 scoreline.
Also going forward, they need to improve on every game and take most chances in front of goal.

I wish them a win in this game.

tete7000: Part of what we need to teach our children is that they be the positive influence rather than be the ones to be influenced negatively. We light the flame of God in them and insist they go out and be light in the world. The way you talk glowingly about your father contradicted your comment on your brothers. Does it mean your brothers couldn't find the virtues in your dad something to be emulated and would rather follow a stranger outside? Does it mean your brothers(and others around in the house) carry women around and your pious dad wouldn't speak out against such. If he insists and act in a way compatible with his stance, I believe you can to some extent have reason to trust your brothers as much as you trust your dad. He is their first role model just as your mum is your first role model. That's is the essence of a godly HOME.
God bless you!

owolabifunke14: No I don't follow him all the time. Let me tell you why I'm so convinced that my dad does not cheat. when my big brother put a girl in the family way,my father threatened to shoot him in front of everybody,he wanted to disown him if not for my mum that interceded on his behalf. Daddy refused to touch the kid when she was born.Uptil now he doesn't see that girl and her baby girl as part of our family. So tell me how a man that is this disciplined would go outside and father other kids.
You are still a kid.

I am not saying your dad has an illegitimate kid but all your examples are just ridiculous. If he cheats, you will never know. Even if your mum knows they may shield it perfectly away from you.

I have seen the most principled men cheat. Sometimes, it may be just a one off situation. Your dad may not be a serial cheat like this MIC man but don not be too sure he has never cheated.

A young man entered a club in USA 21yrs ago, met a girl , slept with her that night at the back of his car and later married her. Their first child is 19yrs old now. I have never met another set of couple that are so down to earth and happy. Everytime I visit their home they both act like kids on a play ground. I learnt a very important lesson when the man told me how he met his wife and what happened that night. For some, IT DOESN'T MATTER.

A lot of us are more concerned about what people will say if such a relatioship came crashing. There are no specific rules to successful relationships.

Why will a lady take a such a decision without informing her finacee?
Postponement is not the issue but not giving prior notice is strange.
That, MR OP is a very strong message she just passed across.

If you are absolutely convinced she is the woman you want to spend the rest of your life with, let her know there should be an agreement before such a decision can be made. What roles are the two families playing ( her's and your's )? Are both of you staying far apart from eachother?

Patience is a virtue. Relax and watch as events unfold before December, whatever her reasons are will be exposed by then. Unless she is top class pretender, her body langugage should tell you a lot whenever something like this is cooking if you are observant.

Jobs/Vacancies › Re: Are Engineers The Most Unemployed Graduates In This Country by rman: 5:09pm On Oct 12, 2013
I disagree. In fact, engineering gradutes have better opportunities.

They can branch into other fields after graduating and still retain their niche which other graduates can't come into. I have friends that studied either electrical or mechnical engineering that now work for PWC, KPMG, and banks. I still have not found any social science graduate working as a telecoms engr, or process engr.

Engineering certificate without any form of practical experience or skill is of little or no use. Learn about the softwares used in the industry you are intrested in, get some IT certifications, be ready to get your hands dirty initially.

I sometimes feel the unemployment situation in Nigeria favours them more. Look crtically at all the sectors that are growing presently in Nigeria eg construction, manufacturing etc the core of their staffs are engineers.

Phones › Re: Multilinks CDMA Will Shut Down Finally This Morning by rman: 6:55am On Oct 09, 2013
When a business is no longer profitable, management tries different methods to reverse the trend nd if it doesn't work, the businesss will be shut down. GSM just happens to be the preffered technology here and since the gsm opertors have the money, CMDA opertaors have continously lost subscribers to them in Nigeria. It is just a matter of time before some of them fold up. Multilinks has been sold to Helios towers, a company strictly into building and maintaining telecom infrastructures for co-location.

Competition in gsm industry has lead to different business strategy being deployed to maximize profit. Everybody is now operating the managed services model ( outsourcing ) in telecoms industry in Nigeria. MTN just happens to still be the last man standing and they are finding it very difficult to compete. So, they may also have to outsource the technical aspect of their operations to vendors.

Regulators (NCC ) are not there to kill businesses, in fact, their primary responsibilty is to make sure the environment is fair to both business and customers. NCC can not compell a company to retain staffs. NLC and NCC my come in if the laid off staffs are not adequately compensated.

Privitization is good in the long run, if well managed. But, I have never been a fan of government privaitizing everything, especially key sectors. I believe NITEL/MTEL should have been made to survive under government.

Isn't it strange that ordinary Nigerians called others liars for claiming they do not have 247 power supply?

Why refer to some areas as ghetos because they claim they do not have power there?

Why say they do not pay bills? Or they must have a faulty tranformer.

Is this not the same kind of resoning our leaders have?

Politicians believe the followers lie when they claim they are suffering. How can they when things are so good for them.

If we are going to be truthful, it is only logical for posters with blackouts to outnumber those with 247 supply. The best we can do is to show empathy and not rubbsih their claims because of our own selfish interests.

deenee: I am a product of one of the banks, presently in private equity and I am grateful that I passed through the rigorous training then. Tutu Sholeye, no doubt is one of the best in her field.

Apparently, people don't read books anymore because if we do then we will know that the obituary exercise was adapted from Steve Covey's highly seminal book.

Graduates want to earn a six figure sum. Yet, they are not ready to pay the price. If you can't stand the heat in the banking industry, go and set up your own business and be an entrepreneur.

The original founders of these institutions paid with their sweat and blood to lay the foundation for what a lot of people benefit from today. Some even sacrificed their lives (RIP Uncle T). For those saying "this can only happen in Nigeria". Please I will suggest that you enroll for an internship program with any of the big investment banks abroad and see how their interns also pass through rigorous training. Recently, 21-year-old intern Moritz Erhardt died while nearing the end of a internship at Bank of America Merrill Lynch. Rumor has it that the chap worked 18 hours per day, non stop week on week till he collapsed.

I don't think that the 1million in one week drive is a totally bad idea. At least you are not compelled to complete the task and if you are not comfortable with it, one can always consider the option of walking away from the offer.

Mediocrity has become the order of the day. Yet we want to have all the good things life has to offer. When the bitter truth is this. There is no free lunch anywhere.
What you are suggesting is people should give up living life to fullest because of work.

There is what is called work life balance and the intern that loses his/her life to please an organization is a fool.

Is banking the only industry where people work hard? I believe in working hard and also playing hard. I can give numerous examples of indutries where people work harder than banking and have found a way to make sure staffs have time for family and fun.

Unfortunately, very few of these banker do intellectually stimulating stuffs. A lot of my brilliant friends that studied engineering that got into banking did not like it. It is not due to lack of competency or meeting tragets, in fact they are star performers but theY still feel something is missing.

We can all talk about sucessful people that have worked hard, but how many are truly succesfull when the overall prameter of LIFE is used.

One of the reason I loved Richard Branson is becasue he is one of the only few people that built empires and had fun while doing it.

Outsourcing is poorly implemented in Nigeria. Unfortunately, major business operations are going this way to reduce cost and transfer risks.

The situation is the same across different sectors ( banking, oil and gas, telecoms etc )

What I find disturbing in cases of multinational companies is that, it is when Nigerians become managers or execs that all these polices are implemented.

The unemployment situation coupled with captalism and firece competition has made us lose any form of empathy for personel.
Career › Re: The Tales And Woes Of A Typical Access Bank Teller by rman: 3:25pm On Oct 01, 2013
Goldenboy007: OP, it's common with all contract employment arrangements in most companies in Nigeria; Oil industry, Telecoms, Multinationals etc. All maltreatment that you mentioned are the "norms" with contract staffing, you are not alone. You would be surprised nothing would change even with your letter, it is the way the system is built. I would give you an advice, if you cannot change the system then change yourself cos that's your only way out, upgrade your qualifications and start looking for other opportunities. I will tell you no condition is permanent, you might come back and end up being part of the management of Access Bank.

@Nairalanders, some of you do not have an iota of empathy, you are all there mocking him and imagine some of you have been jobless since you graduated and scrounging on your poor parents, some of you are employed but your case is worse and some of you are hopeless undergraduates that don't even know when you would graduate and oblivious of your fate after graduation! Your case is like the adage of the son that abused his hustling father of being wretched for not working hard enough to be wealthy like his friend's father, the son should just be a little more patient because he too would soon join the race to find out why his father had remained wretched all these years.

Let those that think they have the upper hand now beware because "permanent staff" is a relative term, in the long run nobody is permanent; as far as it is not your father that owns the company, you are all bloody variables! I'm a witness to a popular telecom company in Nigeria, the company provided a staff bus for ALL staffs but the permanent staffs always prevented the contract staffs from joining the bus saying they are not in the same category with them. This year, the Telecom company has decided to outsource every single staff! so who is now entitled to staff bus? That's the irony of life!!! the only constant thing in life is change!

Jobs/Vacancies › Re: Unemployment- Non-graduates Are Cheating Graduates In Nigeria by rman: 9:05pm On Sep 30, 2013
Can we all se the thought process of a typical Nigerian graduate?

Is this not the same thought process members of National Association Of Unemployed Graduates (NAUG) have?

If I am an employer of labour, will I be willing to employ a graduAte that thinks like the OP?

If employers of labour claim majority of our grdauates are unemployable they will all claim recruitments processes are biased.

In the OP lametation post, he listed at list two distinct areas ( mechanics and building ), where gradutes can come in and improve service delivery and quality of work done. Unfortunately, the average Nigerian graduate can not think, the opportunities are there but they are all looking for office jobs. If this is how our university graduates think, it is safe to assume university education in Nigeria has failed. The system still throws up a few good ones like the '' FARMTECAHER '' on this thread.

The '' FARMTEACHER'' is a very good example of a graduate, and I can bet if she decides to work for someone, it is just matter of time before a firm scoops her up.
