FG imposed billion dollar fines on one of the biggest investors in Nigeria without fair hearing on an issue FG could be wrong and we all wonder why investors lost confidence a week later in businesses here.

When was the last time GTB stock fell?

If MTN were to be quoted on our stock exchange, it will worse than 155 billion.

FGs action in recent times to succesful businesses is responsible for this.

If I am an investor, I will also take my money out.

Our policies does not encourage investors.

We only say it, our actions says otherwise.

Nairaland should find away to rank comments. Relevant comments stay on top and invariably on the first pages. However, that might create another issue as the mods seems to act like the posters too sometimes

Don't mind them. Majority of those jumping up and down on this thread, do not know the first thing about telecoms firms, or the way they operate. When it comes to Mobile Switching Centres (MSC) for example, it is the big telco infrastructure companies like Motorola, Ericsson and Siemens that play in this field. They are the OEMs. MTN does not manufacture one single pole, modem, RF radio or antennae for its operations.

These telco infrastructure firms bring in the equipment, sell it to MTN, Airtel, Glo and co, and then maintain it for a stipulated number of years. And they all have offices and warehouses in Lagos. So how can govt tell us that their Federal Ministry of Finance officials all over the federation, as well as tax authorities at federal and state level, including Nigerian Customs Services turned a blind eye to the fact that MTN was not paying taxes and import duties, for 10 whole years?!! Haba! Make dem dey lie, small-small nah!

If what govt is saying is actually true, then every senior staff of the Ministry of Communications, as well as Ministry of Finance, including FIRS and Customs, from the level of director upwards, should be sacked with immediate effect! They have failed woefully in this regard!

I know Nigerian telecoms industry very well and I am still actively participating in it.

It is the typical Nigerian, take over anything successful for frivolous reasons. The politicians are behind this. The see MTNs numbers and want a piece of the pie. Unfortunately, they are going about it the wrong way.

Oga, please read my initial post with understanding, before you jump to vague conclusions. Govt claims MTN did not pay taxes for 10 years, which is highly improbable. MTN cannot be held liable for not paying import duty, as their telecoms equipment were imported by their sub-contractors, and NOT directly by MTN! You need to look at their sub-contractors like Siemens, Ericsson, Vodacom, Reime, Harris Communications, etc who imported, installed and maintained telecoms equipment such as masts, switching centres, Base Transceiver Sites (BTS), antennae etc., at MTN sites.

If MTN did not pay WHT for 10 years, how did it escape the notice of the tax authorities all through those 10 years??! People need to ask relevant questions, please! Their annual reports have always been published both locally and internationally, so why wasn't it challenged since by govt? Where did MTN get the figures they have been posting under payment of taxes, and how come no govt agency ever challenged it all this while?

What this govt is trying to do is take over that company. It is quite clear right from the first year.

It is no coincedence that they are being attacked by different govt agencies including NLC.

It took a MNC 3 months before I got a call I was successful years back, As a more experience hire in my career, feeback has ranged from one week to two weeks in most cases.

You can still negotiate so far you have not accepted the offer letter. Forget, been a fresh graduate. If the vacancy is for an experienced resource but you were able to convince them you can do the job, they should pay you what the role deserves.

However, you need to have done your research of what the range of salary is for that role before embarking on that journey.

Negotiation is a part of recruitment process.

There are several ways to watch football. One is the internet you use to download the movies.
DsTv paid for the rights, others can go for it too

This does not make sense. It is not compulsory to use a certain service or buy a product. You cannot force pricing on private business in a competitive market.

If consumers feels DSTV is too expensive or they are been exploited, Startimes, FSTV, TSTV etc are there.

Competition should drive down prices not court injunction.
