Finance policy in economics should be scrapped then since its not Fair and can not be openly explained to its partakers.
batter system works better.
Should surgry be scraped because doctors won't tell us the procedure to carry out one?

The basis of monetary policy is there for you to read but not everyone will understand how it works, study the economies of countries is not easy, for all these nairaland economist pasting articles everywhere.

You need to gain understanding. US dollar is not backed by Gold. They left gold standard in 1966. That's why Gadaffi rejected USD because it has no intrinsic value

I've taught this out.
border closure should reduce import but no effect on Naira, covid-19 has reduced the demand for dollar, still it crashed from 360 to 390.

Economics don use us finish..
Dear, economics didn't use anybody, there are some technicalities in econonomics you won't understand. Is just like going on self medication and ignoring the advice of doctors.

Over the years, we've been made to beleive that demand and supply is the key factor determining the exchange rate.

Oil which is Nigeria greatest source of foreign exchange fell down in price back in 2015/2016 it fell to a low of about $28 per barrel. Instantly our Naira fell to about half its worth.
From 190 to 360 but as at 2017/2018 we recorded positive increment in oil price to about $65 per barrel yet no subsequent increase in price.

Covid-19 came to place. Meaning no demand for foreign products, less use of dollar, yet no appreciation.

Does it mean it's impossible for Naira to appreciate?
Unlike previous years, we know our demand for foreign products has reduced but no positive subsequent change in currency. Instead it keeps falling.
In fact I could remember a year when the dollar crashed a bit nothing changed in Naira.

Who ever designed the foreign exchange policy is a fraudster and must be washed off completely otherwise no developing country would ever develope with such traits.

My observations though..
First of all, there is nothing wrong with the exchange rate policy... The reason why Naira does not appreciate as dollar is very simple.

Naira is made to chase dollar, and when that happen the naira will lose value against the dollar.
Nigeria produces in large quantity only crude oil and exports virtually almost every other commodity it consumes, so it is just like selling 1 and buying 99 other goods.

Here is a good example, dollar is running, and naira keep chasing dolla (using dollar to buy foriegn goods), dollar will feel strong and it ego will raise while naira feel weak and ashamed.

Now if Naira stop chasing dollar and turns back (producing an consuming more local goods) dollar will also stop running and ask naira why it stop chasing it, at this point dollar will start following naira to and naira's ego will raise and it value will also raise.
The point is this... Nigeria must increase production and consumption of local goods and reduce dratically the importation of foriegn goods thereby using less of dollar.... I hope this helps.

Learning to live/deal with it is not pushing your citizens out there to go fend for themselves.

Other nations are learning to deal with it by only easing the restrictions (again I use the word "easing" cos they didn't totally lift the lockdown) after the virus spread has reached its peak. And these are countries with very good health care.

However my wonderful nation made coronavirus look like a childs play by lifting the lockdown when cases are increasing everyday. They make it look like the virus takes a vacation during the day and only shows up at night like egungun. Smh
What do you mean by totally eased the lockdown..no body totally eased the lockdown in Nigeria, just that Nigerians are very sturborn.

In this case i expect the police and army should come in to enforce this restrictions.

Millionaire town yet it is still one of the worst city to live in.

Our focus should be on the livelibility of cities and not on the number of each self - made millionaires there.

The town is too congested, highly disorganised, poor road network, crude infrastructure and highly polluted.

These are not peculiar to Nnewi but common features of a typical Nigerian town or city.
Then what is your point?

No, 18k, but there are other stuffs been deducted like, staff welfare, cooperative, and then penalties, late coming, late submission of lesson note, test questions, exam questions, record sheet, record of work, going to classes late, been absent without permission. Etc.
I am usually guilty of lateness, because my house is far from the school, so most time I get there when they are about to roundup the assembly session.
This is slavry, they put up those deductions there because they don't want to pay you your hard earned money....

My advice is for you to find another work and leave ASAP,

There is nothing like Salary as far as the month of April is concerned. Private school owners are what we refer to as" PRINCIPALITIES. I don't know how I am going to survive the lock down with my family. life hasn't been easy sincerely.

HealthRe: Lagos Discharges 37 Coronavirus Patients Today by Saintinoo(m): 8:23pm On May 06, 2020
smithyemy:
My people point of correction, when they said discharged from isolation center, it means they were kept isolation for 14 days after suspicion of having covid 19 and they were only discharge after 14 days or more when they dont show symptoms of covid 19. It does not mean they receive treatment. If they said they were discharge from hospital that means they were treated after texting positive and later texted negative after treatment. So, try and differentiate between being discharge d from isolation center and being discharged from hospital. I believe i would make sense to those who can read and understand.
in your mind you wanted to make sense, but ended up disgracing yourself....
Hospitals don't attend to covid-19 patients unless that hospital is selected as an isolation centre... Those people were treated and later recovered from the virus after being tested twice.

Joetttimua1811:
Good afternoon Nairalanders, please I just have to bring up this topic to help a friend seek advice and I wish admin can help push it to front page.

A friend want to have a low budget wedding with 500k and needs suggestion or better still advice on how to go about it considering the cost of living now. Thanks
It all depends if paying of dowry and traditional marriage list is included.... For the church wedding, go to any good tailor and get urself nice cheap suit, and an Aba made shoe, rent wedding gown for her, for the reception, use the church hall or the church compound, i don't see why people fancy event halls.

Get a low cost DJ and Mc, a cheap event planner for the decorations.

You shouldn't spend more than 200k on food if you target around 150 people.
Above all, do want you can, do not try to impress anybody, the economy will slide into recession any moment.

First, typing also several times is an old joke. Perhaps you can help yourself by trawling around the internet outside your comfort zone of blatant ignorance.

Second, i gave you a credible link to a BBC story about Madagascar's own health scientists disputing their mad president about the fake herbal concoction you're enamored with

Third, the BBC has no agenda towards any viable cure coming from Africa. If that bottled moonshine was credible they'll want some for their own embattled home country.

Sometimes you need to step outside your brain to think, especially when that brain is foggy from cognitive bias.

Any cure for coronavirus-2 will most certainly NOT come from Africa.
I leave you with your ignorance.....

Next time you double words, know it's irrational to do so, according to you though.

And for your info, some African countries have placed orders for that drug you called junk, AU are currently sitting on that matter... How about Senegal who produce their own tests kit, i believe they are also fake?

Keep asslicking whites. Am done replying you.

You don't want me to believe a credible, professional, globally revered news source, but you want me to believe you.

Also, your analogy is downright stupid.

Also also, rational people don't type in all caps.

Also also also, your allegation that the BBC, whose native country suffered the worst death rates in all of Europe, is defending big pharma, who've no vaccines or potent drugs yet, is frankly silly.

If the bottled snake oil from Madagascar works (something the country's own scientists say is nonsense) you think Madagascar won't be the richest country in the world right now?
first of all, rational people don't type a word twice "also also".

What prove do you have that the country's scientist disapproved the drugs?

And lastly if you think an organisation like BBC will ever want anything good coming out of Africa then you are a victim of that single desision to stop history in our schools.

"The World Health Organization (WHO) says there is no proof of a cure for Covid-19 after Madagascar's president launched a herbal coronavirus "cure".

The country's national medical academy (Anamem) has also cast doubt on the efficacy of Andry Rajoelina's touted prevention and remedy.

It said it had the potential to damage people's health as its "scientific evidence had not been established".

FamilyRe: Time To Divorce My Wife? by Saintinoo(m): 4:42pm On May 05, 2020
noakchukibadan:
Hello,
Please no ethnic banters. One of us is from Ekiti, and the other is from Benue. I am married for 8 years with 2 kids. It has been one problem to another. I must be very frank, before marriage, my wife had many very questionable characters, but unfortunately we did the marriage counseling in a church were the pastor happened to be her family member, many of the issues would have been resolved, but when I raised those issues about her character the pastor promised me that everything will be fine after the marriage, although this is not an excuse, but looking back now I would have been more patient and taken my decision myself instead of rushing into the marriage. For this I HOLD MYSELF ACCOUNTABLE
There is hardly nothing we do not quarrel about, I have always been the one to initiate settlement. The only way I ensure that there is peace in the house is for me not to complain about anything. Even at that, there is always trouble. If the children does anything wrong, she always those characters the children are exhibiting are not from her and that she is not surprised that they inherited such characters from me.
She can go for months without we talking to me, even if I tried to, I have done all I could do, i have begged, cried prayed . I just feel tired and exhausted from trying to make the marriage work or have peace in the home, the sad part is that she often reminds me every time there is misunderstanding that I should remember that she can stay on her own without talking to any body. Just to add, she is very prayerful.

OTHER INFORMATION.
1. I can say conveniently that their is no money problem at home. Finance is okay.
2. I went to see her father 2 years ago the man said unfortunately he can not do anything . This is true because she was raised away from her Father, she has no contact with any of her fathers family and her father has a zero say in her life.
3. she has 5 elders ones, non of them is in communication with her because of many unresolved issues. Of her 3 younger ones she only maintains a relationship with the last boy who is just 14 years. .
4. Her mum can not talk to her because she simply dare not. However, behind, her mother use to beg me and she kept saying she understands her daughter's character and that she is doing her best by praying and doing deliverance for her.
5. She is not in contact with her maternal uncles and aunt because she said they supported her elder ones when she had problem with them.

So I am stuck with no one to help call the both of us and resolve the issue.

Every year for 5 straight years , she always forgets my birthday, last year, she forgot also, three days later, she bought me a present and I refused to collect the present and I asked her why does she keep forgetting my birthday, year after year for 5 years. She just said sorry, but I left the present in the room, she never came bother to bring the present to me. Another birthday was gone yesterday 2nd May , and as I write, no happy birthday yet.

I literally cook for myself, and all domestic things I do for myself.

I will end this by saying that in fairness to her, her character was not too different before the marriage and courtship, sincerely only once, that was like one year before the marriage I broke up with her, she came to apologize and promised that she will change. Her mother also came to apologize to me also.
This woman has refused to change or allow peace to hold sway, she is right every time, while everybody around is wrong. Sincerely, I do not know what to do anymore.
I am tired and exhausted. I do not know what to do anymore. I am 42, I was diagnosed of her blood pressure 2 years ago.
So bad to see a birthday mate going through all this... Am not married, i don't knowhow you will take my advice, but first of all your mistake was agreeing that she will change after your wedding...
Since it seems like she doesn't listen to anybody, i think you should spend more time with your kids, try and train them to be different from their mother, they are your wife now, they will give you happiness and strenght.

Back to your wife, i will not ask you to quit and trow her out, but talk to her like a man, like the head of the house and if she still insist, then be on your own, take your kids to a family member and separate from her for now before she kills you with HBP.

Least i forget, is your wife Idoma?
