Wow !!! So finally, Glo has woken up and blocked their BB plans from browsing on non BB devices. Wanted to give the advice here to keep things coded as similar free browsing techniques or plans have been discovered & blocked but decided to hold my piece. Well, I hope everybody enjoyed it while it lasted. Thank God for Fiber Internet at my office, I don't bother myself with any GSM network plans anymore for any heavy downloads apart from light browsing. @luluosas, What's up, bro ?! I told you Glo in Yola was bad. Have switched over to Airtel for my BB since last month. Atleast, having 3G makes up for the poor EDGE services of Glo here. But its not all bad as regards the Glo BB plans. 3GB for use on BB is still the largest I know considering Airtel & MTN both give you 1GB while Etisalat is unlimited. |
Nice car !!! Looking for something like that in the market now. Whats the mileage on the car and can you display the VIN number here ? Thanks !!! |
Was reading thru the forum at crackberry.com and saw a user commenting that the Z10 launched in Saudi Arabia is 3G only. Anybody with info on the particular model to be launched in Nigeria ? Secondly, the United States and Europe operate different spectrum/frequencies of LTE. Which version is superior or has more adoption around the world. It reminds me of the CDMA vs GSM issue. |
jdoss: Spectranet don fall my hand, I'm hearing they will now launch in July.LOL !!! ![]() Bros, no be you and me talk am here. Dem think say to deploy LTE na beans. As we predicted, they have spectacularly fall their hand for ground. Nigeria doesn't need new ISP's. Let the existing ones upgrade themselves and remove those stupid bandwidth caps. Never heard about www.smile.com.ng before. Ibadan is an alternative ground for those ISP's that find Lagos too crowded. |
chucky234: I don't see anything wrong with a man paying his cook 25k then spends 45k on pets' feeds,a cook who eats from every meal he/she cook in addition pocket 25k at the end of each month is certainly being fairly treated. If i was your daughter and learnt about this, i will honestly never look at you the same. A human being is a human being and has more value than any animal on this earth, talk less of your own flesh & blood. You need to re-evaluate your priorities. smh !!! |
ritchboy: Any console you order online from Amazon or the other big retailers will be "unhackable". My thoughts exactly at first but then i started thinking, do i really need it ? I can get regular supply of latest PS3 games from the US at their retail prices so no need for jail breaking or hacking. The PS4 is gonna be coming out soon so am sure all attention will naturally divert there. Any thoughts ? |
Isn't the price of this thing never coming down ? ![]() Reminds of some old Nokia phones that simply refused to come down and ended up being obsolete at their same initial price e.g Nokia 660, N90 ![]() Nokia Lumia 920 is still N105,000 in Slot and even as high as N113,000 on . The BB Z10 on pre-order is just N98,000 in Slot and N100,000 by carriers. |
Bawss1: ^Not really !!! i have already zeroed my mind on viewing the Surface Pro as an enterprise device therefore you dont expect a road warrior to be packing music, vidoes and large pictures onto the surface pro. I view it more as a tool for accessing corporate e-mails, SAP, Oracle, Cisco applications from company servers. Plus as you rightly pointed out, it has an Micro-SD card slot. A 64GB Sandisk Class 10 Microsd card should do just fine. Being wifi-only also makes it more secure for use on company's wireless networks with enterprise encryption. The occasional angry birds wont spoil the fun though ![]() |
@bawss1, Spot on. Battery life is a very important factor but i don't fault them when i look at the specs on that tablet. It has a real Core i5 processor in there with a 1080p screen. That's gonna give a real ass kicking to any tablet's battery on the market. However though, the onus is on them to find a better long lasting solution to it. For now though, its raising the bar on the competition. |
That's a good initiative by the local farmers. Allowing the fiber to be installed without paying for the right of way goes a long way in reducing deployment costs. However, hoping for that in Nigeria is mere wishful thinking. Just because of bad belle by somebody, the person will carry his cutlass at night and chop away your cables. smh !! |
@Lord Reed, The shairman of that company na sharp guy. Apple go settle dem wella wella very soon. |
Bawss1: This is amazing considering that the Surface Pro garnered less than impressive reviews from many quarters. I mean with reports that its battery life is somewhere in the neighborhood of 4 hours when the competition averages 7 hours, usable memory on the 64G model is 23G (83G on the 128G model) and the absence of a cellular model - well, I guess I'm the only one that requires that this feature is a mustThat's why Microsoft made 2 different devices for two different purposes. For the casual user interested in using the tablet for some light browsing, games and multimedia. The Surface RT with its less power consuming ARM chips will do just that. For the road warrior or enterprise user that needs to do some serious work or run some native windows apps especially in an enterprise setting, the surface pro is there for you. Most reviews i have read push the Surface pro as an ultrabook replacement hence the price range but with the added advantage of portability. |
samkay12: The new BB doesn't use BIS@samkay12, BIS works on the Blackberry 10. Stop spewing the same garbage you hear from people and do some research on your own. https://www.nairaland.com/1182166/no-bis-blackberry-10/4 www.crackberry.com Seek Knowledge |
luluosas: Yola? As I am typing this now, I am in Lelewaji in Yola Town. To be honest, I have been enjoying my Glo services on my phone which I connected my laptop to through Hotspot.Maybe coz Yola Town has low traffic on its cell towers compared to Bank Road (Galadima Aminu Way) where i am. Heard Glo has launched 3G at FUTY for students ![]() Na wa for them o. Plus glo BB has also been terrible at Karewa. ![]() |
Yeah !!! MTN too. Glo Network has been horrible in Yola lately sha. Thinking of subscribing to Airtel. http://www.mtnonline.com/bb10
|
gidiMonsta: When we all these service providers start offering contract plans in Naija? They do, but only prepaid calling plans, haven't heard about any post paid plans on Blackberry yet. |
Hate em or love em, but those Y'hello boyz sabi business !!! First to launch the new Nokia Lumia 920 & now the new BB Z10.

MTN looks to strengthen hold of data service market Mobile network operator, MTN has entered into strategic partnership with Research in Motion (RIM), makers of the brand new Blackberry Z10 smartphone to deliver the new Blackberry 10 Operating System (OS) device to its customers in Nigeria. The telecoms company, according to industry analysts is looking to strengthen its footing in the data segment of Nigeria’s telecommunications market. MTN will be the first to bring Blackberry’s latest offering to the Nigerian market. With this new development, MTN customers will be among the first users in the world to experience the new, wave-making Blackberry Z10 smartphone which is the first smartphone based on the re-designed, re-engineered and re-invented BlackBerry 10 platform, giving customers a powerful and unique new mobile computing experience. It is the fastest and most advanced BlackBerry smartphone yet, and offers customers a smarter experience that continuously adapts to their needs. Larry Annetts, chief marketing officer, MTN Nigeria, said among other unique features, the phone also offers superfast browsing, a sharp responsive display, an intelligent camera that allows for editing and photo sharing as well as trusted security. “MTN is offering pre-order opportunities thus conferring on our customers the privilege of being one of the first to own the device in Nigeria. Those who pre-order will get the smartphone at a bargain price and they will be contacted for pickup at locations of their choice even before the phones become commercially available at retail stores. They are not required to make any deposits; they will simply pay on delivery.” It will be recalled that MTN Nigeria has a long standing alliance with RIM, makers of Blackberry, dating back to 2007 when MTN Nigeria was the first telecommunications company in Africa to offer Blackberry on a pre- paid basis. The new platform comes with very innovative features such as the BlackBerry® Hub. It is a single place to manage all your conversations whether personal or work email, BBM™ messages, social media updates or notifications, and the ability to “peek” into the BlackBerry Hub from anywhere, so you’re always only one swipe away from what matters to you. Another feature, according to the phone maker is the BlackBerry®Flow, where the BB 10 experience excels by enabling features and apps to flow seamlessly together, helping users complete the task at hand effortlessly and efficiently. For example, you can tap on an attendee listed for a meeting to see their latest tweet or LinkedIn profile. Or tap the thumbnail of a picture you just took to launch the Picture editor and quickly apply a transformation or filter, then instantly share it with your contacts. Interestingly, the keyboard understands and adapts to the user, according to the firm. It learns what words you use and how you use them, and then offers them up to you so you can type faster and more accurately. The BBM (BlackBerry® Messenger), allows you to share things with the people that matter to you in an instant. BBM in BlackBerry 10 includes voice calling and video chat, and introduces the ability to share your screen with another BlackBerry 10 contact. BlackBerry® Balance™ technology elegantly separates and secures work applications and data from personal content on BlackBerry devices. http://www.businessdayonline.com/NG/index.php/tech/telecoms/51462-mtn-looks-to-strengthen-hold-of-data-service-market |

Yes, i am !!! Goes to show you that MS can still churn out a good product. As an ultrabook replacement, it certainly gives plenty of bang for the buck when you consider its portabilty and potential for enterprise use. |
ukachimo: yes u are right about de speed test and the Yahclick, a mix up there yet Yahclick is offering 15mbps not a farce.Better !!! ![]() yet Yahclick is offering 15mbps not a farce Dude !!! Put your money where your mouth is and put a speed test screenshot here with a link. |
ukachimo: that is yahclick in action. Pay 3 months subscription and get free epuipment on business plan from 2mbps up. U can enjoy up to 15mbps on this network and location is not a problem. Call Daniel on 08094684524 for enquiries or mail ukachimo@yahoo.com@ukachimo That is not true !!! Do your research well. Yahclick is a VSAT solution. Yes, Hyperia is the ISP currently offering that service to Eko Hotel & Suites but it is a Fiber Optic Connection NOT Vsat. Check the speedtest results well, you will see a PING time of 8ms. I am yet to see a VSAT solution with a PING time of less than 100ms. Don't take credit for something you have no business with. ![]() |
Hello Guys, Nice thread going on here. As a former avid gamer, i must confess to have lost my roots for a while. However, having recently gotten some extra time on my hands i want to return to the gaming fold. To start with, i just bought the new PS3 250 GB Black Friday 2012 Bundle on Amazon complete with the Playstation Move Set. Now, because of my absence from the scene i must confess to being left behind on the latest news and jail breaking techniques in town. From my own research and your helpful comments i can see that the possibility of hacking & jail breaking the PS3 Super Slim is next to impossible due to the revised hardware specs and firmware version. I haven't un boxed the PS3 Super Slim yet and was thinking of ordering another one thats more readily easy to jailbreak. What's your thoughts on this and any advice ? Thanks !! |
This topic reminds me of a tweet by wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales when he was in Lagos attending a conference. According to Wikipedia co-founder Jimmy Wales, Nigeria’s internet speed is faster than New York’s. Wikipedia co-founder Jimmy Wales. (image: .com) Wales tweeted yesterday, “Broadband speed in Nigeria. Beats New York City”, with a link to the results of his speed test (see below). http://www.itnewsafrica.com/2012/03/nigerian-internet-beats-new-yorks/

moonraker: It's not fair at all. Nigeria is slowly crawling there but damn !!! Haven't heard about any optic fiber connection to the home (FTTH) for consumers yet, but am sure there probably is for corporate customers. Which brings me back to the problem of having no affordable high speed data connection for consumers other than Mobile Broadband. Etisalat currently has the most advanced network in the country with the deployment of HSPA+. The most advanced modem you can get in the country is the Huawei E367. It has a connection speed of only 28.8Mbps. Now, if you can get half of that speed on a good day, you will be the fastest Nigerian surfing the web i can guarantee that. But like i said earlier, the networks are so congested and slow that you can hardly dream of getting such a connection. It is possible though but highly unlikely. |
@Moonraker-san, Care to enlighten your fellow Nigerians as to what type of network was that, speed and price !! Arrigatou !! ![]() |
From what I have seen of the specs of the Playstation 4, I would say the days of gaming consoles are numbered. With PC's now having smaller form factors and more powerfull processors with less heat requirements its a safe bet to say that PC's are winning the war. Sure consoles are dedicated gaming machines but they are more & more turning into media centres of which PC have had a longer headstart. The PS4 is rumoured to come with 2GB RAM, 1GB of Dedicated Graphics, an AMD APU rumored at over 1Ghz etc. |
Having talked about internet speed and bandwidth here on Nairaland for a long while now, I can confidently say that Nigeria is a mix of so many parodies. I can confidently say that Nigeria has the speed & data capacity to match any country in the world including Korea & Japan. Now before blowing your lid's off, you have to consider the context in which I am speaking off. Nigeria has 5 major fiber optic submarine cables carrying internet traffic to the outside world. 1 Main One Cable 2 WACS 3 Glo One 4 SAT3 5 ACE These submarine cables bring a large amount of bandwidth to the shores of Lagos. Therefore, users in Lagos have a distinct advantage in tapping this great ocean of bandwidth. This is what I mean when comparing Nigeria to the world. Now our major challenge is getting this large horde of bandwidth to the hinterland of Nigeria & having access to it from all nooks & crannies of the country. From Maiduguri to Port Hacourt, from Sokoto to Warri, from Bayelsa to Kano etc. To do that, we need ultra fast super highways. A fibre optic backbone connection. Just as we have National Dual-Carriage highways connecting major regions of the country. Here now lies the first problem. All the 4 major operators are now each individually building their own networks and charging exorbitant interconnect charges. This takes a large amount of capital & equipment. Now after bring this bandwidth to some major cities, there's no fixed infrastructure to use to deliver fast speeds to the homes of users. Mobile Broadband speeds are theoretically good enough but when used in contention with voice traffic & other network issues, we start having issues again. The frequent incidences of fiber cuts on those backbone connections aren't also helping matters. But with all these challenges, the network operators are still making money & declaring huge profits. Nigeria doesn't have much a problem of speed per se but an issue of bandwidth limitation by network operators. Yes, there is no consistency in terms of speeds across several locations but on the average when a user gets a good 3.75G connection, you can be downloading at over 1MB/s on Internet Download Manager. Will post some screenshots later. And like I earlier said, Mobile Broadband accounts for over 80% of internet browsing in nigeria today. Dial Up is dead. ADSL is offered only in very small areas. VSAT is also still used but dying out slowly. So, our brothers in Ghana browsing on ADSL with Vodafone will of course have a faster connection than someone browsing on his 3.1Mbps modem in Lagos on a crowded cell tower BTS. |
@ Lord Redd, Since you have a line of communication to staff of BBRY here in Nigeria, mind passing along a request as to when the Z10 will go on sale in Nigeria. As loyal blackberry fans, we will appreciate any feedback we can get on a timetable. Thanks |
For those saying the BB10 has no BIS, It's not true. The BB10 still supports BIS & BES. You check out more information about the BB10 at www.crackberry.com. At N119,000, the BB10 is still cheaper than the Nokia Lumia which at launch was costing N125,000 for WP8 device. |
@Oluafolabi, Nice response my brother. I am a Blackberry User & I must say how proud I am at Blackberry for accomplishing the launch of the BB10 OS. Yes, BBRY dropped the ball a few years ago when they lagged behind in terms of innovation & content on their devices. But a lot has changed wince then. We have a new CEO & his team, a new OS (BB10) and two new flagship devices. Now for those doubting thomases and prophets of doom all shouting about of the end of BBRY, I say hold your peace. Nobody is forcing you to buy their products. Yes, BBRY is just releasing the first generation of a new device & OS and may have some more work to do but they have accomplished a lot and due credit must be given to them. Comparing them to Android or Iphone is not giving them the right comparisons. The Original iphone & Google Nexus all had a lot of time & work put into before reaching where they are now. BB10 is now just coming into the same category. The second generation phones am sure will have more improved hardware. As for the BIS issue, it's a tough call to make I must honestly say. The new BB10 like the other mobile OS has a higher data consumption rate than the old BB OS and therefore cannot afford to tunnel all data needs through the BIS infrastructure. The BIS plan will still be used but am sure it will be modified in some way for the BB10 OS. The BB Z10 & Q10 will sell well. With over 80 Million subscribers worldwide with more than half ready to upgrade their devices, the phones will surely have an impact. Go to Slot everyday and see the thousand's of BB been sold daily. |
