Glo connects Lekki Estate to its fixed network National Carrier, Globacom, has begun the connection of residential estates in Lagos and other cities to its fixed line network, riding on the Glo Broadaccess infrastructure. As part of this roll out drive, the company has connected NICON Town, one of the newest residential estates on the Lekki-Epe Expressway in Lagos. The Head of Glo Broadaccess, Mr. Karuna Menon, said the telecommunications company is delivering high quality voice service, data transmission, high speed Internet services and video streaming to the 433 plots in the estate. He said Globacom’s fibre optic cable laid earlier on the Lekki-Epe axis makes it easier for the estate to connect to Glo’s fibre optic infrastructure. Menon added that from the fibre cable on the expressway, the infrastructure is stepped down in a central hub in the estate and redistributed to homes to connect end users. A visit to NICON Estate showed that Globacom’s network installation in the estate has the capacity for 1568 connections, though the estate currently has about 433 houses. Residents have the privilege of choosing whatever bandwidth bundle they wish, based on their Internet usage requirements and this is made available by the wireless multiple cable points or both. “The infrastructure is robust and unique, not seen anywhere in Africa,” Menon said. The management of the estate attested to the speed and capacity of the Glo Broadaccess network. According to the General Manager of the NICON Town Management Company, Mr. Jimmy Osho, residents are capable of downloading or uploading films, videos and heavy data files with incredible Internet speed. On the cost of the facility to residents, Osho said last mile connections to the homes are affordable and the tariff is based on the individual monthly usage. Besides the NICON Estate, several high-end customers have been connected to the Glo Broadaccess network and are enjoying the services. Menon noted that more estates in the country have shown enthusiasm in the service “and we hope to spread the coverage in a very short time.” http://thenationonlineng.net/new/news/glo-connects-lekki-estate-to-its-fixed-network/ |
Hmmm, ![]() Moonraker-San don come again o !!! @Jdoss, I think i understand where your coming from. But they weren't able to implement good QoS on their existing network, what can you expect then when the LTE service starts. Let me give you an example, there's an area called Mando in Kaduna State where i usually stay. The house is not far from 2 MEGA base stations for Glo & MTN. I call them MEGA because they are bigger than most BTS i know and i highly suspect they each have a Fiber link to them. You guys should see the incredible speeds i get there. The lowest speed i have ever gotten is 800 KB/S on a sunny Tuesday Afternoon. At night, i usually pass the 1MB/s mark on Internet Download Manager. For Nigeria, those are killer speeds. But as i suspect, the area is a low density area without much people. So, voice traffic to the BTS is low talk less of data. Proper planning of the network to site a BTS with the capacity to handle all the traffic directed at it is needed by the network engineers. That's why the GSM networks are always having issues. You keep on doing promos, giving free credits and activating new lines daily without increasing your network capacity, BTS, routers, switches and Bandwidth on the network. By the way, these things cost a lot of money. I couldn't believe my ears when i heard that only 5% of Main One is being utilized. The rest is just waiting for more traffic. Imagine having Google Fiber 1Gbps for just $70 = N11,550 ($1=N165). We shall get there sha !!! Slow & steady. |
Story !!!! ![]() @jdoss, No mind those yeye people my brother. Na today dem start that talk. Every company in Nigeria likes to make mouth but when the time comes to start proving themselves, they start having issues; network congestion, slow connection speeds, low bandwidth etc Uptill today, few networks have been able to truly deploy ordinary 3G talkless of 3.5G or even 3.75G. Now, this ones are here making mouth with LTE. |
@brightk Yes !! But there are usually two devices given to a hynet customer depending on signal coverage within his location. If your location is near a mast and you have good signal coverage in your house, you wil be given an indoor router. The router will connect to the wimax network and broadcast it out as wifi to your devices or connect a lan cable to it directly or to a switch if you intend to join it to a lan network. However, if are far from a mast or have poor coverage, you are given an external antenna which is mounted outside on a pole and directed at the nearest mast. A lan cable is then attached to the external antenna and linked to a normal wireless router inside the house which then broadcasts the wifi signals. I highly recommed the external antenna but its more expensive as you still have to buy a wireless router. |
@luluosas, Glo network can be terrible in Yola sometimes. The lack of 3G there is what has been pushing me to Airtel. However, I advise you change your modem to a more advanced one with a better chipset. I Use the Etisalat Huawei E367 (unlocked). It has a qualcomm chipset which enhances its antenna and gets killer connection speeds. I use a blackberry bold 9780 with a glo sim and use the Full BIS N2800 plan. It comes with 3GB of data allocated. Have been on the road but will post my own findings later at night when am settled. |
CHUCK NORRIS has just finished Temple Run !!! He completed the game in 5mins !!! |
Check out the following thread for more information https://www.nairaland.com/501321/mtn-hynet Good luck !!! |
;DCONFIRMED !!! It's working. Changed my apn to blackberry.net and it's working. Posting on nairaland with it now. |
luluosas: So, what is the APN for Glo BlackBerry service? Nevertheless, I was having over a 100 naira on my account why attempting to browse using the Gloflat APN after subscribing. Moreover, I am yet to receive activation SMS from 777.That's just it, glo doesn't have any specific apn for the blackberry service. I doubt even if the Airtel apn is meant for blackberry. All blackberries (Nigeria) regardless of network connect to the main blackberry server in UK (England) using the blackberry.net apn via a secure socket layer protocool (ssl). To confirm this go to options, device, advanced system settings, host routing tables. You will see the 4 ssl settings that the blackberry uses to connect. To confirm the ip address of your blackberry, go to www.ip2location.com to see where your ip address is located. I don't know whether its tied to any apn or just a feature enabled at the NOC of the network operator. Airtel seems to have left their ports open free for any network traffic unlike others. Will still also do more research. |
@luluosas, Am still yet to understand how Airtel BIS plan works on USB modems & other phones or I would have been able to make a better analysis. Glo has different mechanisms in place from other providers. For instance, if you try to browse using the two apns (gloflat or glosecure), you will be automatically taken to the hsi webpage if you don't have a prior subscription or your credit is 0.00 and cannot afford a PAYG (Pay As You Go) which is 5K per kilobyte. The two apns are for WAP & HTTP browsing respectively not for blackberry service. |
@Luluosas, It seems glo takes upto 48 hrs sometimes to activate the Blackberry service on a sim. They will need to send the service books and other stuff to your handset. Might be faster if the sim is left in a blackberry handset as it sends a registration signal to the network. As for browsing using the Glo Blackbery plans, I don't know if it might work but let us know the results. Am curious also to find out why Airtel's BB Plans works on other phones & usb modems. Finally, Glo's Blackberry Plans doesn't use any of the glo APNS (gloflat, glosecure) to browse. Will conduct some experiments of mine to find out how it works. Glo gives it users 3GB for N2,800 for their full BIS service. Not bad if it works. |
Another small suggestion if I may, can Nairalanders compose a BBM broadcast message with Chibuzor Eze's details and scam victims and make it go viral. User's with large followers on Facebook, Twitter, BBM and other social media platforms can also help spread the word. The more information we help get out there the better we can help nab the guy & save potential victims. |
Inspired_M, What is your estimate for a 2008 Toyota Corolla LE from the US to Lagos including all charges ?! Clean title. Also, what is your quote for a 2009 Volkswagen Golf MK6 ?! Thank you. |
Wow !!! Plenty of sad stories here from Cotonou. However, if I may contribute a little to this thread, it seems some people didn't do their homework well and they trusted the wrong people. Finding honest & straight forward car agents to cotonou is a losing battle nowadays. Most are cheats, crooks and generally shady guys out to dupe people of their hard earned money. Yes, buying a car in cotonou has its advantages compared to Lagos. Whether they are major enough to convince you is up to the buyer. A major failing however that Nigerians are known for is avoiding payments of custom duty. Whether your importing from the USA or buying in Cotonou you must pay duty. Whether you choose to pay or looking for a cheaper alternative will determine the cost you will incur. |
Frankie9ice: ...I strongly smell a rat in your ranting above. Certainly u r partisan!!!@Frankie9ice, That my friend is not a rant but one of the most well reasoned comments made so far on this thread. What do you have to add if I might say ?! |
Sadly, am more interested in knowing about Glo's expansion plans of their 3G network. Common guys, its almost how many years now since you launched 3G and ur still stuck in Kaduna, Kano, Zaria, Jos, Bauchi, Abuja, Minna, Lokoja. Apart from Bauchi in the North East, Glo 3G is almost non-existent. I always wonder which juju Airtel used to launch 3.75G simulatenously in all the 36 states captitals. No GSM provider has come even close to their coverage. MTN & Etisalat are currently leading after Airtel. Glo should wake up & start expanding. |

N50,000 - M70,000 Since its not brand new (sealed), depreciation starts once the box is opened. You can also get a brand new laptop at those prices also albeit with a slightly lower spec. |
luluosas: If to say I can reply you back with the same language now, I for hapi well well. Thank you sha.For somebody working in Yola you need to start picking up the language wo. No excuses ! How do you relate with your Fulani people ? Lol !! And i was thinking we would add another Fulani wife dash you !!! ![]() |
@luluosas, Yola guy, Jappandu !!! Noi Chomri !!! Lol !!! ![]() |
Broadband speeds have dramatically increased in Nigeria. As a long time user, we remember the old days when NITEL introduced Dial Up Internet. We used to browse at N20 per min at the only Cyber cafe in town. With the launch of GSM in 2001, things have changed for the better, Yes, there are challenges in terms of consistency and speed across the country but gradually we will reach the promised land. As an avid internet user, i have clocked over 1.2Megabytes per second while downloading from the internet using Internet Download Manager on both MTN and Glo's 3G Networks. Haven't extensively tested Etisalat & Airtel yet. It seems there's more bandwidth in the North as there's less traffic here. Plus, if you are connected to a base station with a fiber link your good to go. Please check out the following threads to see speed test and IDM screenshots showing downloads from users across Nigeria on different networks. https://www.nairaland.com/581307/what-downloading-now/22 https://www.nairaland.com/507554/strictly-internet-speed-screen-shots/17 https://www.nairaland.com/368044/strictly-internet-speed-screen-shots |
As a single, young unmarried male i honestly cannot marry a woman that has a child already with another man. I have nothing against such women neither do i speak ill of them. Every person has his own cross (sins) to carry so who am i to judge. There are a 1001 reasons behind a woman being a single mother. From being raped, unprotected sex and promiscuity, divorce, death of spouse etc. Therefore, one shouldn't be in such a rush to judge those women. Having a child is a game changer for any single man in a relationship. Let's not kid ourselves. Some mothers try to hide it and eventually it comes out when both have invested so much time and energy into the relationship. But like i said, a child is a human being with feelings and emotions. Therefore, don't blame any guy who wants out when he finds out about it. Be upfront and honest about it to any interested guy before the relationship get's too far. I have met a few single mother's who caught my eye but i politely told them how i felt and ended it quickly before it got too far. Some might claim happiness & love, but as experience has shown its better to make a clean beginning. We fall in & out of love everyday so its no guarantee of a long viable marriage. Now, am seeing plenty ladies here advocating for single guys to accept such women but i believe every person has a choice. And you should respect that choice. Not all fingers are equal as are all men but that doesn't lessen their value or importance. |
![]() Nothing do you !!! |
You can pay directly with your GTB Naira Master Card. However, you must activate the Master Card Secure Code function using the internet banking portal & a token device or alternatively you can purchase it from a bank deposit to their reseller in Nigeria www.epaynigeria.com. Goodluck |
Samsung Galaxy Note II N99,000 & Samsung Galaxy SIII N87,999 (www.). Both devices come with Android OS. Now, with the asking price of N105,000 on the Nokia Lumia 920 and which won't be in stores till Dec and only to MTN subscribers, Nokia is making a HUGE mistake to say the least in marketing the Nokia Lumia 920. Windows Phone 8 is still an emerging platform needing more time to mature. The lower price point will have been an added advantage to attract new customers to the platform. The Android OS is a mature platform and will serve as an alternative in my opinion. |
I usually subscribe to the Nighttime & Weekends data plan because it gives me more value for money. At 3GB for N2500, it was the best plan on both MTN & Airtel. However, Airtel has the added advantage of having 3G in all the 36 states giving it more coverage than MTN. Since they both had the same data allowance, Airtel was the clear winner of choice. Now however with the increase of the data plan to 4.5GB on MTN, its a good offer for those staying within their 3.5G coverage area. Might try it out on their EDGE network in my location. Therefore, MTN is going to take the lead in areas where it has good coverage. Waiting to see what Glo & Airtel will respond with. I would be glad to see a bump to full 5GB on other networks for N2500. |
DArkWhiteSoul: we all have to accept Nokia have been in the phones business enough to make nice phones , and resilient ones too. competition wise, IPhone is American so you know what that means , the superpower wins, personally I think IPhones are overpriced and their environment too controlled , but at the end of the day ....IPHONE wins, its just a cultI don't buy that argument. Not everything is about America or being a super power. Sometimes, it's just a matter of demand & supply. The natural market forces at work. Nokia has no one to blame for its failure but itself. Same thing that's happening to RIM (Maker's of BlackBerry). Apple sells its devices because people buy them. You cannot deny the quality & finish of an Apple device. Even their critiques can attest to that. Therefore, to see Nokia attempting to follow suit on a device like Nokia Lumia 920 is a disappointment when they should be luring subscribers with lower prices. At N105,000, that's too much in my opinion, comparing the price range with other Android devices. Plus it won't get them new customers for Windows Phone 8 when Android has already an established presence, |
Well, according to some users on the facebook page of Nokia Nigeria. The Nokia Lumia 802 is gonna cost N82,000 and the Lumia 920 N105,000. That's a huge disappointment if it turns out to be true as the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note II Cost Less Than That. Still waiting for official confirmation though. |
The New Nokia Lumia 920 is being launched today @ Silverbird Galleria. Still waiting for the word on pricing though. As for the MTN exclusive thingy, I don't think they will be locking the phone to MTN only. I think its more of MTN taking the lead on the device & pushing it to its subscribers by offering unique data rates/call plans & maybe bundled plans etc. The era of locking a phone to a network in Nigeria is long gone. If Nokia dare try that, they are killing their product.

The subject of Megaupload is one that has affected the entire internet community at large. It all boils down to the issue of piracy of movies, music, pictures & application software. This requires an individual to do a little soul searching. Is piracy stealing ? Would you pay your hard earned cash to buy those music or softwares you are using if giving a means to ? Those and a lot other are questions that one must ask oneself. MegaUpload and other Cyberlockers/Filehosts where simply pirated digital distribution centers where uploaders where rewarded with money based on the number of downloads of their uploaded contents usually pirated media. Therefore, i can see how they can get into trouble with US authorities who are main producers of such media. Personally, i support MegaUpload and KimDotcom. What the US authorities are doing goes beyond the simple issue of piracy. I download a lot of my digital needs from the internet free. From music to the latest movies to application software etc. And i haven't paid a single dime for it. Am i proud of it, NO, will i stop doing it, NO !!! |
First & foremost, the best platform in my opinion to play games on is on the console ( Sony Playstation PS3, Microsoft XBOX360, Nintendo Wii). These are dedicated hardware devices that are meant specifically to play games. However, they can do more than that. They can play DVD's, stream movies & music from the internet and generally are wireless multimedia devices. However, if you prefer gaming on a computer platform, your best bet is a desktop PC. It carries more power and graphics than a laptop will ever do. The sheer amount of processing power & memory on a desktop is more than enough to play most modern PC & console games. However, its not mobile and must be connected to an external source as it draws a lot of power. Now, we come to gaming on a mobile laptop. The first two things to look out for on a laptop when contemplating gaming is a dedicated grapics card or GPU (Graphics Processing Unit). The two major graphics chips manufacturresrs are Nvidia & AMD. AMD is the entity that resulted as a result of the merger between ATI & AMD. They have an added advantage of manufacturing both CPU's & GPU's. In my opinion though, Nvidia is the best in terms of power and efficiency in playing the latest PC games. Most modern laptops (2012) come with at least 1GB of dedicated graphics memory. 4GB RAM is also standard when looking for a system to play games on. |
" Windows 8 Installation Has Failed " And with that statement, i finally met my first challenge installing Windows 8 on a system. Am trying to install Windows 8 Pro 64-Bit on an Asus VX6 Netbook with a Nvidia ION graphics card with Optimus. It has 6GB RAM & a 250GB HDD. Am using a bootable USB and DVD-ROM media to install but with no luck. Went to the Windows 8 forums and came across plenty people experiencing the same issues. It seems upgrading on some systems has a lot of issues from BIOS, Antivirus or security software, incompatible programs etc. Bottom line, am stuck and still researching on how to overcome this challenge. But the surprising thing is i installed the same media on a Sager NP3250 wtih+ a 1GB Nvidia GT520M graphics card with Optimus and no issues. It seems the upgrade installer is a little finicky on some systems. @Moonraker-chan, have you encountered any such issues before coz people are screaming bloody murder in the Microsoft forums. |
