Weldone @op. I personally don't think church wedding is a sin.Heb 13:4.I did traditional so that bride price be paid.We went to registry to fulfill the law of the land and church for God's blessing.

The issue of tithe in new testament its really not clear. Our Lord Jesus taught on a lot of issues ranging from forgiveness to love, giving, sharing,Praying,Fasting and a host of others BUT really he didn't teach on tithe. The apostles peter,Paul,James, John etc taught on so many Christian living doctrines BUT did not mention tithe not even paul that wrote almost half of d NT.
My conclusion is this I CANNOT OUTGIVE GOD.

Christmas.Paul wrote if anyone esteem a particular day its unto God and if another fellow feels otherwise its unto the Lord in all let Christ be glorified.
It is not, just that it is a very wrong practice. The Church is sacred and should not be used for merry making. It explains why I said it is a sin. It is really irrelevant to marriage. On tithe, you might find this interesting;

jiggalo:
Read Hebrews 7:8-10
Furthermore, here [in the Levitical priesthood] tithes are received by men who are subject to death; but in that case [concerning Melchizedek], they are received by one of whom it is testified that he [a]lives on [perpetually]. 9 A person might even say that Levi [the father of the priestly tribe] himself, who received tithes, paid tithes through Abraham [the father of all Israel and of all who believe], 10 for Levi was still in the loins (unborn) of his forefather [Abraham] when Melchizedek met him (Abraham).
NB: THIS IS NOT A TEACHING ON TITHE BUT A RECAP OF THE OLD TESTAMENT ACCOUNT and a sharp contrast between the Levitical Priesthood and King Melchizedek

BARNE'S COMMENTARY
But there - In contrast with "here" in the same verse. The reference here is to the account of Melchizedek, "Here," in the Levitical economy, men received tithes who are mortal; "there," in the account of Melchizedek, the case is different.

He receiveth them - Melchizedek - for so the connection evidently demands.

Of whom it is witnessed - Of whom the record is. There is not in Genesis, indeed, any direct record that he lives, but there is the absence of a record that he died, and this seems to have been regarded as in fact a record of permanency in the office; or as having an office which did not pass over to successors by the death of the then incumbent.

Point #4: Genesis 14:20: Abram’s Tithe to Melchizedek Reflected the Law of the Land. (Chapters 2, 3)

The false teaching is that Abraham freely gave tithes because it was God’s will.

Scores of reputable secular history books document the existence of spoils of war tithing from Babylon to Egypt before Abraham’s time. For the following reasons, Abram’s pre-circumcision tithe in Genesis 14:20 cannot be used as an example for Christians to tithe (17:5).

(1) The Bible does not say that Abram “freely” gave this tithe.

(2) Abram’s gift was NOT a holy tithe from God’s holy land gathered by God’s holy people under God’s holy Old Covenant.

(3) Abram’s tithe was clearly only from pagan spoils of war and was required in many nations as the law of the land.

(4) In Numbers 31:21-31, God only required 1% of spoils of war as an ordinance.

(5) Abram’s tithe to the priest-king Melchizedek was a one-time recorded event.

(6) Abram’s tithe was not from his previously owned personal property.

(7) Abram kept nothing for himself; he gave everything back.

(cool Abram’s tithe is not quoted anywhere in the Bible to endorse tithing from Israel or from the church.

(9) Genesis 14, verse 21, is the key text.

Like I earlier mentioned, tithing started with Jacob.

Ok. Thank you. The bible does not change,it is the same ages past and ages to come. The bible said mary will conceive and bear a son and his name will be Jesus Christ.
Let me break your heart a bit. Prophet Isaiah, Micah, and John the Baptist all foretold the coming of Christ. Before Mary was conceived of the Holy Ghost, she was confused, lost and greatly afraid as she had no idea what was to happen?
“Don’t be afraid, Mary. You have found favor[a] with God. 31 You will become pregnant, give birth to a son, and name him Jesus. 32 He will be a great man and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his ancestor David. 33 Your son will be king of Jacob’s people forever, and his kingdom will never end.” 34 Mary asked the angel, “How can this be? I’m a virgin.”
Joseph, on the other hand was ashamed and disappointed in Mary after it was discovered that she was pregnant and was planning on putting her away (dumping her) when an angel persuaded him to stay with her.
…19 And Joseph her husband, being a righteous man and not wanting to disgrace her, planned to send her away secretly. 20But when he had considered this, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife; for the Child who has been conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. 21"She will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins."…
This negates your earlier assertion in which you claimed Mary had long been prepared for the legendary role she was to play. Worshipping or honouring Mary while believing she will intercede is not strong put her in the immortal role she is enjoying in some Christian churches.

Must it be scriptural to honour some1?. I fear u sha. Honour is given to whom it's due and we studied the life of mary from when she accepted to be the mother of jesus,to the way of the cross and till the death of christ. She deserves our honour and we gave it to her. Even the mother of john the baptist honoured her and her visit to her home.
As far as it's a Biblical figure you worship, other than Christ, you should be able to give us Scriptural backings to prove your points, perhaps cause us to turn and start worshipping it too.

This is funny. And how did He do that? On several occasions that Mary came close to Jesus, she was denied. Perhaps the teachers who teach the "honouring of Mary" kept that part from followers of their faith. Jesus never went about with Mary, Joseph's wife each time He preached the Gospel.

Brother, you got to read your Bible again. As for tithing:

1. Abraham Commenced it. (Actually long before the 10' commandment and the Law and Moses Era).  Gen. 14:20, Heb. 7:4.

2. Jacob Continued it. Gen. 28:22.

3. Moses Commanded it. Deu. 12:6; 14:23.

4. Christ Commended it. Matt. 23:23, Lk. 11:42 (This is even within the Grace Period of Christ, after Moses and the Law Period).

5. Nobody can Cancel it. (Born Again Israelites still gives tithes till today. Don't be left out. Join the wagon) !

Give me the name of one of the other children of mary. At the cross, jesus handed over Mary to John the beloved and said mother this is your child and child this is your mother,if there are other children of mary, why will jesus take total possession of her in handling her to john?. Please read John 19:25-27.
The other children of Mary were insignificant to the cause of God. They played no role because they went about their businesses as mere people. Mary did the same. She went about her business as a wife to Joseph and other children, not as the mother of God.
…47Someone said to Him, "Behold, Your mother and Your brothers are standing outside seeking to speak to You." 48But Jesus answered the one who was telling Him and said, "Who is My mother and who are My brothers?" 49And stretching out His hand toward His disciples, He said, "Behold My mother and My brothers!…
On several occasions, Jesus denied Mary as a mother, not because He hated her, no. But because He unburdened Himself from family ties. He did so two-three times in the New Testament! Mary was and is not the mother of God, biko.

wt about malakai 3:8-10?
An old practice. Read it carefully. It was mandated because Levites needed to be fed and anyone who cut corners by failing to bring his tithe is a robber who had robbed God. Note, there was the mention of a storehouse. This is so because whatever was brought, mostly food back then, was stored in the storehouse so that Levites would not lack. Malachi 3:8 is the only book in the Old Testament that explicitly talked about bringing tithes and its effect. We don't bring food now, do we? Plus, there's no storehouse anymore. Christ even from the Royal tribe of Judah did not pay, neither did He preach about this. The twelve tribe had scattered in the New Testament because Christ was around. The priests and kings held the people together in the Old, they all disappeared in the New, along with this very practice.

the analysis of tithe giving is clearly stated in Gen 20:22~30
remember it's the same bible that said whatever is banned on earth is banned in heaven n whatever is accepted on earth is accepted in heaven.
open ur mind n let God's spirit lead u in d right path.
Tithing is definitely defined by one tenth of what you have. Cain and Abel gave a kind of offering which is called the first fruit. They are very different.

Thank you sir. Jesus commended it. This is good that you do, but don't do this alone, dont pay your Tithe and neglect the others. Also show Mercy, exercise your faith, judge justly, etc. Why does this seem to the Christians like abolishment of Tithing?
Kindly share a verse where Christ commended tithing.

@op, I needed you to tell us why I can't take my very handsome and rich senior brother as my husband? Why can't I marry my young father. There are a lot of things commanded to be observed in the O.T that are not reterieted in the new testament, but we still observe those ordinances? Why are we against giving? Even when Apostle Paul in Hebrews 7 spent time to address this Tithe issue, why are we still against giving?
I don't know why some people enjoy telling lies against the Bible. Hebrews 7 is a recap of the Old Testament account. And note, Levite were mentioned. So, please, in your own way, explain how Paul addressed tithing and how Christians should pay it in the New dispensation.

The heathens sacrifice their children, their own lovely children to their god's, you are rigorously fighting the 10% out of 100%. No wonder some Christians don't believe that wealth can be gotten without cutting a deal with Satan.
To make wealth, you must cheat, lie, steal, sacrifice to Devils, very costly sacrifices. God says bring 10%, just 10%, you wear your boxing gloves to fight it. Your mind and reason takes leave of you. It shouldn't be so.
You're referring to Malachi 3:7-8. It's tiring really to explain this time and time again. Are you a Jew? Your pastor asking for tithes, is he a Levite from the tribe of Israel? Have you ever bought what your souls lusts after with your money to eat in form of tithe as commanded by God in Leviticus? Mosaic Laws died with the introduction of the New Testament, save a few that was modified.
So many here who call themselves Christians, still visit marine prophets and Prophetess, Babalawos to excel in business, why shd this be, when a way is provided for us?
This is off topic.

What is the evil in Tithing?
There's no evil in it, Just one of the many Old Testament practices that died in the New but was in a way revived so pastors will not starve, since the offerings are not enough.

Are there still levites amongst the Jews today? Why then do they still hold the ordinances of Tithing and First fruits vigorously?
First fruits started with Jacob and Esau and not the Jews per say. It did not start because Levites could feed from it. First fruits were to God exclusively.
I see Satan in the details here. The word says, Give and it shall be given back to you. It doesn't matter who gives or who you give to. Giving in any form or pattern will yield returns to your account.
Tithing Commits God to your labour.
You are not seeing right, sorry. The Word talks of giving and being given back, but not tithe. It was offering. It was no mistake that Christ ignored tithing in His teachings. Giving in form of any Patterson yields, yes, but please, do not bundle offering, first fruits, giving to the needy and giving to the cause of God into one because they are all different.
Besides, Tithe is a debt, that's why you PAY it.
You are fighting yourself.
Pastors love it when they make you feel you're guilty and unworthy to come before God. Tithing is NOT a debt. It was a compulsory practice to make sure that Levites were eating and feeding well at the expense of others, and this is because God commanded them not to have any part of the inheritance of Israel. Jesus Christ was from the tribe of Judah. It would have been very easy for Him to pay tithes just so He could demonstrate that Levites were at a disadvantage and needed to be looked after. Please ponder on this and don't respond like a dogmatic Christian. These so called pastors would not even tell you there different kinds of tithes. I'm so sure you don't know this. What pastors understand is "bring money". I perform my other obligations, ranging from giving to offerings and so on. Tithing as a practice is long gone but pastors won't tell you this because it would affect them in a horrible way.

But whatever God did not change concerning the old testament, it is meant to stand. Eg men were allowed to marry many wives in the OT but Jesus came to modify to one man one wife. Jesus didn't say we should stop paying tithe.
Did Jesus ask couples who just had sex to stay away from church? Are couples staying away from church after an early morning quickie just because the Old Testament says so? Did Jesus condemn the woman caught in the act of adultery? No! Does it mean that people should continue because Christ pardoned the woman? Kindly refer to my post and read the one on tithing and please channel your strength to Leviticus and see if you're observing any of the Laws there.

If we can intercede for one another, why can't we beg for the intercession of Mother of Jesus (MARY)who showed her love for mankind at the wedding feast at CANA? Try and read John 2:1-5.
I'm very conversant with the passage and I've had a lot of persons who tend to justify the "honour" of Mary by referring me to that passage. In verse 4 or so, Jesus referred to the "Holy Mother" as WOMAN, DIRECTLY. There's a template in getting to God and it's through Jesus. There's a template in getting to Jesus Christ and it's through the Holy Spirit. Mary has no business interceding because she is not a deity. She was a human who had long gone. You don't honour the dead. The mother of Jesus Christ you mentioned gave birth to other children. Sorry, she had a man who slept with her and she conceived her other children through sexual means. That is no mark of a deity.

On church wedding, if you say abraham started it, did the bible say d man should take things to the female family..if Abraham practised it, then we can pay tithe too
If you talking always about what the bible say and not, you should be preaching the word of God, go to a seminary or even go to areas were the word of God as not gotten to because we are on dis earth for a purpose, so no need to spend hours in school, dat money should be used for expansion of the gospel..oga der are what we call norms in a society which dosnt make you sin before God...paying ur tithe is not an idol worship or church marriage..
We have a normal as African men. We either marry more than one wife or we have a concubine somewhere. This is an African norm and our tradition permits it. I hope you have more than one wife or you intend to? I hope your pastor, with all due respect has more than one wife?

Yes Jesus was actually teaching about tithe but lay emphasis on judgement, mercy and faith by calling them weightier matter of the law. He said this you ought to do without leaving the other undone. By this statement he was not condemning tithe but was saying there are other things that are more important than tithing
Yes, and do you know why He said that? It was because the persons in question were Pharisees and Sadducees. They carried out the Mosaic Law to the letter and it was because of them Christ said He had not come to abolish their long practices but to fulfil it. In the real sense of it, their Law was abolished. The significance of this popped at the mount of transfiguration when Moses (Law) and Elijah (Prophet) spoke with Christ before His crucifixion. Theologians believe there was a transfer from both the Law and Prophets to Grace, which Christ represented.

Religion was made for man and not the other way round. The heart of man is desperately wicked, that was why some selected individuals fought for some basic rights (human rights) to be given to all humans.
The Bible admonishes wives (not women) to be submissive to their husbands (not men). I personally don't have a problem with respecting my husband, and I don't see how that should make me an inferior human being.
Human Rights Activists fight for equality btwn men and women; they are only asking that men and women should have the same rights as human beings.
Maybe you should study a little history, before the advent of human rights, a woman can not talk when important discussions are going on. Women were (and are still treated by ur types) as chattels, something to be used and inherited. In the western world, before the advent of civilization, women were not allowed to vote or own properties in their name, whatever they own belongs to their husband after marriage. Women were ill treated by the men and had no say in who they marry.
We thank God for today, now women have been liberated from slavery, and not ur type nor any other person will take us back to that era.
Women don't allow anybody (whether male or female) to brainwash u in the name of religion. Am a Christian, but if we are to follow the teachings of the Bible, then we are all condemned. Don't single out any teaching in the Bible to achieve ur own selfish intention, if u want to follow the Bible, follow it in its entirety.
And don't say ur a Christian so the laws of the old testament does not apply to u; remember, Jesus said, He has not come to destroy the Law but to complete the Law. We are all under the period of grace, and I believe in the Grace of God and not the law, for by the law we are condemned. Remember, when asked, Jesus said, the greatest commandment of all is LOVE: love the Lord ur God with all ur heart and soul and love ur neighbor as urself. If you want to advice or preach anything in marriage, preach/advice LOVE.
You claim you're a Christian but ward off the Bible like an Atheist. Interesting.

No one said so. What Abraham paid wasn't tithe in the real sense of it. It was tribute to Melchizedek who was not only a priest but also a king. In the New Testament, tribute paying became tax, which Jesus similarly demonstrated. Abraham never negotiated with God concerning tithing and the Bible was clear on Abraham's because it says "and Abraham paid tithe to Melchizedek".

How can you pay tithe to God directly? Suggestions please...
Tithing to God in the Old Testament came in several forms. The most direct was taking your substance to the Temple (mostly meats) and burning it before the Ark. The Bible made it clear that God took delight in the aroma. The concept of money tithing was because the Levite were not working and they were seen as liabilities on the other tribe. Hence, to ease their burdens, monetary tithes became a means of their survival. God instructed this and it was this sole reason that made the Levite the only ones who serve and functioned as both priests and choristers in the Temple.

The best way to understand this for women is from a spiritual perspective. God works with order, and by order I mean spiritual organization in terms of authority from one person to another. It's the same with parents. They are a spiritual authority. So are employers, and other social and government leaders. No matter what the law says, the people in authority over you on earth have a corresponding spiritual authority that can punish rebellion. Don't do a thing just because it's written and published by your government, ask if it's right(eous), true, good.

Years of taking in western culture which is a culture in rebellion of authority is the reason why we wrongly believe "all humans are equal". It is a lie that is causing alot of destruction. (This is for those who think "human rights" are from the bible.

A family is a government. This is you do not just get married to anybody, because whatever their spirit is becomes your master. Your husband is the worst enemy you could ever have, if he turns into one. Remember, at times you are dealing with a spirit in the spiritual realm that can destroy you for rising against it - you've already given it authority over you by getting married to IT. Not the other way round. And you can still live a blessed life by avoiding confrontation. We LIVE Unharmed with more Dangerous things ON this earth. And, alot of troubles can be kept off by simply avoiding them.

And now, for men, remember that that spirit that is inside you is also joined to your wife. It has become a sword that cuts both ways. The Angel that arises when that covenant is broken will arise against either of the two who rise to destroy it. Because the authority doesn't end with the man. He is answerable too for those in his authority. That's for the violent and oppressive men I see on this forum.
You couldn't have said it better, to be candid. Thanks for the submission.

Flexherbal:
Some of these things do not have any formula. Even some well know pastors who counsel people, for a long lasting marriage, end up divorcing.
By formula you mean a guarantee to a happy home? Well, it does. While there are many reasons for divorce, they do not necessarily come from the woman. By the way, Pastors are humans and not God.

when you say husband is a master then whats wife?slave?
Far from it. Was Sarah in any way a slave to Abraham? No. The word husband is weighty. When you use it on a man, you claim to accord him the deepest form of respect. Unfortunately, most women believe it is only a title. It's just like calling Christ Lord and Master. It does not make us slaves just because we call Him that because we are not slaves, rather sons by adoption. I hope you understand now?
Christianity Etc › What You Must Know/do Before You Get Married As A Christian Lady by Sanchez01(op): 7:35am On Mar 13, 2016
Marriage for most people, particularly I'm Christianity is a flop. Reasons for this are largely bent on certain issues, which could come from either of the parties. For now, our focus will be on Christian ladies who have been nurturing the idea of settling down. Knowing/doing these things are necessary and if you didn't know them (say you're married), I believe it's never too late to make amends. So, here goes.

1. Discuss with your father to tell you who a man is: It is no longer a rumour that most children easily open up to their mothers than their fathers.Concerning marriage in Christianity, it is important a lady take counsel from the father on who a man is. This is one of the reasons marriage for most ladies is a flop. The best a mother could give to her daughter is her perspective on how she treated her husband, the lady's father. For example, if it happens that the father washes his clothes himself (trust me, this is real) and has been doing so for years, the mother who sees nothing wrong with it would tell her daughter to go with the flow. This is why some women feel that a man is just another woman in marriage. Far from it. Summon courage and have your father enlighten you on who a man really is.

2. You are NOT equal partners: Forget the feministic movements, most of them stem from failed homes and they think they now know better. According to the Scriptures, the woman, upon agreeing to marry the man, is agreeing to come under subjection of such man. What this means is that he is the head and has the final authority in the home (Eph 5:22-23). Unlike the dictates of the Scripture, most couples today have their own definition. They tend to think they're equal partners. This ought not to be. When you come under someone's authority, it means you obey that person totally. Don't ever delve into a union as a marriage with your own definition.

3. Husband means LORD or MASTER: I know most ladies will protest at the sight of this, but it's true. Old Norse say the word means "House Dweller or The Male Head in a house". According to the Scriptures, the first woman that birthed the word, Sarah, used it on the husband (Gen 18:12; 1Pet 3:6). You must understand that a man is the Lord of his house and those under his roof, including you. Up until now, people use the word to refer to the person they are married to without knowing what it means. Fathers understand this. Again, it explains why you must consult your father before you move in with that man you want to marry.

4. You must be willing to understand him: I will give an analogy to drive him this point; you see, a man loves the one he serves (his boss at his workplace) and the one who serves him (his wife). He fights the one that tries to be at the same level with him. When you fail to understand a man, you assume the role of that person that tries to be at the level with him. The reaction you get afterwards is that of his contenders. He fights you to learn your place because he is programmed that way. He doesn't enjoy rivalry. So, when you bring your own definition into the union, he fights it off, not because he doesn't love you but because he sees you as a threat, a rival. You think he is the one to understand you, wrong. He will understand you until you have learned to understand him.

5. Your beauty is in obedience: Irrespective of what you have possessed before marrying him, you're not beautiful until have learned the place of obedience. An obedient woman is not only considered beautiful but wise and the Scriptures confirms this in Pro 14:1. Should you fail to obey, you become a rebel and God would in no way accept your actions (1Pet 3:2).

6. You are a HELP in the union: Why did God create the woman? She was created because the man was alone (not lonely). Gen 2:18,
And the Lord God said, "it is not good that the man should be alone, I will make him an HELPMEET for him"
. God had created all things save the woman. All other creatures had companion and God felt the need to provide man with a help suitable for him. Adam at the time had too many responsibilities, Just like men in this present time and God provided someone to relieve him of those things. As a lady, you must understand that you have a role to play in helping the man you have married as well as the home. I have seen homes where the woman believes she works for herself and her money is for herself and her wants. The man takes care of the family's needs. Unfortunately, their kids are above 18 already and I have heard the girls (two) on several occasions say their monies if for themselves, talk about influence. You are expected to help the family in the area he wants you to. That was why God created you in the first place.

NB: For those whose fathers may not be around (due to death or divorce/seperation). There's always a man that acts the father. Either an uncle or a married older brother, they're okay to act as a father to help she'd light on grey areas.

Happy Sunday!

Nigerians can be dramatic. Chai! If the guy was alive and had perhaps came out to claim he was gay, many here on Nairaland would have wished he was never born, or that he rots in hell. The said youths were probably not thinking when they lynched him. It's his choice to determine where to turn or who to become. He was matured to know what he wanted even though what he craves is considered a taboo by many Nigerians. I sincerely hope they succeeded in lynching the Supervisory Councillor too because men with affluence and power are usually above the law in Nigeria. RIP to the dead though cry

It would be better sensitive and personal information are not stored in the mail box. It still cannot be equated with GMail or Yahoo! to be honest. I sincerely don't trust this one and would never even go close.
