Hello professioals in this great house! having followed this thread from inception/long enough i believe its high time i started my project as a DIY enthusiast.

I humbly seek the support of amiable members of this thread in my new adventure. i have enjoyed great deal of privilege hereon as i read from professionals doing justice to questions and proffering solutions thereabout. Honestly, for as long as i av been around, this thread has been like no other.

Although, i had stints(out of love and curiosity) with few construction/property firms earlier in my career but couldnt reach the height i would have love to, as i have no root in civil/building engineering. i still admire builders any day any time.

I have drawn a sketch of my proposed simple and low-cost 2bedroom family apartment (picture attached). please feel free to scrutinise and correct as appropriate. Also i will welcome any suggestion on roof design as i have been divided in between pitch and gable designs in order to fall within budget without compromising aesthetics.

NB: If you find my attached drawing good enough it shows i have been taught/learning well , if otherwise then i need to be scolded and made to take subsequent classes more seriously.

Am much grateful for your contribution towards towards successful completion of my site to roofing stage, am glad I all have a beautiful virtual brothers and sisters here in the house,thanks so much.

Now, am about to roof and ceil my simple "A unit 3 bedroom flat and 2 units room and parlour self contained"... The quotation given to me by the carpenter is really much, right from materials down to workmanship(Grand Total =#1,749,000) ... Please I Need your utmost advice and assistance.

And more so, what's the experience from getting the planks through those timber cutters operator, rather than getting it at sawmill?

Thanks for the reply.... The issue was that the plan was given to me by bricklayer, and that's the only picture i got from him. Do i need to go and design the roof plan? If yes, can you design it and how much will it cost me?

The sand dealer said there are about 3 different sand they use as filling.

The one we used for casting is sold at over ₦40,000 for 20 tons.

She said we don't need that expensive grade for filling, but we can get one around ₦30,000 to fill ahead of ground slab (German floor)

What's your take and what would you recommend?

Quick question:

I have seen a number of "self contain" bathrooms with accessories fixed differently.

What is the correct or say the most efficient way to install bathroom accessories??

I have seen many bathrooms with the toilet on the window side, wash hand "basin " on the opposite side and then shower in the middle. I am having trouble understanding the concept behind this arrangement.

Is this the proper arrangement?

Hello.

An Engineer suggested that Sharp sand as filling before Slab(German floor) is better than using laterite sand in water logged area like Ogudu.

What do you think?

pls can too much cement in a mix cause plaster cracks. what is the best mix ratio for plastering, and steps to be taken to avoid plaster cracks. I recent plastered a house with a mix ratio of 1bag of cement to 2.5 wheel Barrow of sand and there were plaster cracks.

I am currently at the stage of plastering my parapet before dealing roofing and my bricklayer kept saying i should buy stone dust that it is good for plastering added to the conventional plastering sand. Also my neighbor who has completed his building says he also used stone dust for plastering as well. so it got me confused and wanted to know what importance it adds to the building.

Please, i need good advise as i dont want to regret not doing anything that is considered good for this project.

@saydfact stonedust is use to plaster, the period the Lagos & Ogun state government stop the mining of plaster sand people move to Stonedust & laterite mix wt sharp sand. and the get good result. Construction require the materials you can source close to you. in some part of east periwinkle & palmcanal shell is used as aggregate for concrete.

I met her when she came for her IT at my place of work. One day I collected her number but I didn't call her till she finished her IT and went back to school.

One day I called to inform her that I will like us to go into a relationship which she accepted. I told her that l'm not looking for a girlfriend but a wife. I asked her if she has a boyfriend but she said yes but she will never marry the guy because there are some things she will consider in terms of marriage.

I called her to visit me but she was doing promise and fail. I told her that I'm not inviting her for sex that sex is nothing for me. She said okay, that I should send transport money, I tried using my phone to transfer 2k for her but it was not going, so I told her that it was not going she said I should go and use ATM but I told her that I don't have that time that she should borrow from her roommate and come or she should forget about coming until when I will be able to use my phone to do the transfer. So that evening she called that she will come the next day being Sunday that she borrowed money from her roommate.

When she came on Sunday I put movie for her and kept my self busy with my laptop, she started feeling sleepy which I told her to go and sleep on the bed which she went, after I was through with my laptop I asked her if I can join her she said yes, I now joined her in the bed before we knew it we started kissing and romancing each other and we had sex.

After the sex she said that but you told me you don't like sex I told her I like sex but I don't take it serious. She said okay I understand. I now took her out spent like 3k, the following morning I gave her 4k for her transport and she was happy.

After one week she called that I should send her airtime I told her that am not sending she said okay without being angry, when she visited for the second time she asked why did I refuse to send her card I told her that I don't like sending card to people she said okay. So am seeing her as people, i told her don't worry any time I feel like I will send to her, but she said if i send it that she will send it back to me.

I asked her about her boyfriend she said that she has ended the friendship but my mind is telling she is lying, she cleaned my house and cooked for me before going back to school that she doesn't want me to be eating outside, she asked me to give her money to do hair which I gave her 3k for both her transport and the hair, she said the money is small but she Will add her own so she collected it without any issue.

Am not the type that use to call every day but she asked me to be calling her every day to make our relationship grow stronger, she was telling me the other day that she will visit me one day without telling me to see if I have another girl.

Please is this girl really serious with this relationship or she just wants to use me?

As d poster above said raft ..but d clue is at what level water rise in such area ..do u have a river very very close by ..because most times swampy area are plain which when d water table rises its meant to keep the spillage ..

exp I have a site dry season water table is below 700mm but when d river rise d height of water is above 2 meters..

All said above is d clue. so ask around or look for tress or ur neighbor fence to determine this u will see d damp part from previous water and pls if u want to d raft make sure its done well not d one that d concrete will be like sand and later collapse due to pressure ..d footing should be adequate
