The best population census figure of Nigeria is best given by outsiders who have no biased views of the Nigerian tribes.
Says who?

The first set of population figures were even deemed to be flawed in favour of the north politically. The census was conducted by our colonial masters.

Beyond all this, let's use logic? If a poll is taken asking Nigerians to list ALL the languages they speak. You think Igbo will be high up there? Or has the topic for this thread changed?

Bro. Immovable objects can cause accidents too. That's why if you wan yo be safety compliant, you have to put a visible signal on the object so it can be easily and quickly seen by the on coming moving object.

E.g. A mast without a signal can crash a plane.

About the economy, the fact that this is an election year will make things even worse. This year's budget will not come early because of the political period we are in. And the new government will be busy "forming the new govt". Before they select they people they know into positions, the year would be gone and with most institutions, especially banks, depending on such budgets pronouncements to.make decisions; the economy will suffer and even greater recession than envisaged.

Qur'an (8:69)-"But (now) enjoy what ye took in war, lawful and good" A reference to war booty, of which slaves were a part- WRONG!

8:69 Eat then of the lawful and good (things) which you have acquired in war, and keep your duty to Allah. Surely Allah is Forgiving, Merciful. ACTUAL!

Qur'an (4:24)-"And all married women (are forbidden unto you) save those (captives) whom your right hands possess." Even sex with married slaves is permissible WRONG!

4:24 And all married women except those whom your right hands possess (are forbidden); (this is) Allah’s ordinance to you. And lawful for you are (all women) besides those, provided that you seek (them) with your property, taking (them) in marriage, not committing fornication. Then as to those whom you profit by (by marrying), give them their dowries as appointed. And there is no blame on you about what you mutually agree after what is appointed (of dowry). Surely Allah is ever Knowing, Wise. -ACTUAL!

Qur'an (33:50)-"O Prophet! We have made lawful to thee thy wives to whom thou hast paid their dowers; and those (slaves) whom thy right hand possesses out of the prisoners of war whom Allah has assigned to thee" - WRONG!

33:50 O Prophet, We have made lawful to thee thy wives whom thou hast given their dowries, and those whom thy right hand possesses, out of those whom Allah has given thee as prisoners of war, and the daughters of thy paternal uncle and the daughters of thy paternal aunts, and the daughters of thy maternal uncle and the daughters of thy maternal aunts who fled with thee; and a believing woman, if she gives herself to the Prophet, if the Prophet desires to marry her. (It is) especially for thee, not for the believers — We know what We have ordained for them concerning their wives and those whom their right hands possess in order that no blame may attach to thee. And Allah is ever Forgiving, Merciful.- ACTUAL, WITH A BIG "IF".

Qur'an (23:5-6)-"..who abstain from sex, except with those joined to them in the marriage bond, or (the captives) whom their right hands possess..." This verse permits the slave-owner to have sex with his slaves.- WRONG!

23:1 Successful indeed are the believers,

23:2 Who are humble in their prayers,

23:3 And who shun what is vain,

23:4 And who act for the sake of purity,

23:5 And who restrain their sexual passions—

23:6 Except in the presence of their mates or those whom their right hands possess, for such surely are not blameable,

23:7 But whoever seeks to go beyond that, such are transgressors — ACTUAL

You do know what right hand means to Africans. examples- we do not shake the hands of an elderly with the left, we do not wash our behind with our right hand. this helps us know the difference between right and wrong. right in the quran context mean, doing it righteously.

mates- wife or husband.

I have my fears about the number of generators and the dangerous fumes in the air in Nigeria

I have warned everyone I know of that dangerous drug they take for typhoid called chloramphenicol
The way people take it in Nigeria is alarming
The incidence of aplastic anemia in Nigeria is alarming, chloramphenicol must be part of the culprit.

The other thing I warn folks, keep away from Chinese foods and their products
The Chinese sadly are a group of people without conscience
Many of their products contain harmful substances that can kill
Many of their products are pulled from the market in the USA and banned from time to time including deadly dog food, baby formula, toys laced with lead paint.
I have always been very uncomfortable with the romance Nigeria has with China
I am afraid they may be dumping all their rejected products they can't sell anywhere else in Nigeria and Africa
I have written this on this forum a long time ago
America has standards and these dangerous products are detected
Nigeria has no standards

Keep away from those Chinese food spices
Anything beyond maggi and thyme and curry ( not made in China o), I don't put in any foods I cook
I went home and they got me all these satchet products and flavor enhancers with Chinese letters,I threw them all away
Its so bad, the only vegetables you trust are the ones grown in your backyard.

Ewedu that one can buy and will stay like 3 days fresh without preservation, do that now and the next day its all withered, watery and brown- too much fertilizing agents, chemicals.

We all put on our ac in the car to keep the air cool and keep out the noise, we do same at home to keep out the generator noise and fumes, as if we won't all come out to breathe same air.

We wonder why places like lekki generally have a higher temperature range to other places in Lagos, well put on your ac one more time and you'll find out why. You step out of the your chilled car and your skin feels like its burning, well other people put on their car ACs too and the heat from all that has got to go somewhere! grin

I can tell you that if you bring a harmful substance into this country and you have the right connections or money, you will sell the products. What will probably stop you will be someone dying or something.

This response is just unfortunate on so many levels TEHN may not foresee now.

Also, find time and the effort to do what helps him without letting him know or realise the the help is coming from you. This includes helping him find a job or a business. Smart women do this...

If he realises the help was from you, still feign ignorance and turn it into a joke. If he's convinced the help is from you, he'd notice the humility and love in the effort and appreciate you more for it.

Even people from same country can have the issues you're having, so its not an impossible situation.

Asking about his doctorate is not just because of politics. As a president of a country, already representing 140million people everywhere he goes, attaching PhD to his name and flummoxing over simple English sentences; you have to start asking questions cos "America will know".

Mr. can you quote ANY post where you have seen me involved in GEJ / Buhari saga? Like I said, personally, I don't care about his academic qualification, let the best man win. In fact, his numerous attendance in foreign colleges and what not suffices; however, like I said before, that caught my attention. There was no class 6 back in the 60's when Buhari went to secondary school and wrote WAEC. Why will a statement of result be generated for a class that is nonexistent at that time? That is my question. I have said APC bribed anyone, I asked a simple question. Stop being on edge if when someone ask a genuine question.
Your question makes sense...but if you considered it well, you'd realise that the term "reissue" still covers that. Else one can also ask why you should have a more recent picture of Buhari, or a grade classification having "B" and "E". When such were noexistent at that time.

They simply used the template of the current statement if result sheet to produce it.

But beyond all these, what many already suspect have been going on for a long time is coming to the surface. I remember seeing uniformed guys coming to do GCE when I did mine and I wondered how that person got in. For a lot of military and even civil servants, their entry requirements were only completed after some years in service.

And though this was more wide spread in a part of the country, it wasn't restricted to such parts. My mom once told me about some ladies who asked for her help in passing a unilag course they were taking together. She was told point blank that they just had to pass that course cos in their file, they had already gotten the degree.

All these does not remove from that fact that we need a clean Augean table. Still voting Buhari. Got my PVC just for that.

Dark Knight...

The stars spill all over the sky..
casting furtive glances at the dark knight.
Sleek as night,
Languid, hazy, shimmering- flashes of black and white.

The dark knight will ebb like the sea, then-
shine with the lustre of black diamonds.
He dazzles the lasses,
yet cuts deep with swords of silence.

Like globs of liquid heat,
he looks out and his gaze sears the sky.
The knight walks, and marbles crunch in fevered turns.
He reaches and gathers the dark around him..
..the Knight's cloak, like an enigma-
cannot be known.

His thoughts, frizzles deep and writhes in formless frays.
His words- an endless whorl of jerky similes merged in gloomy metaphors and weighed on the ....
caustic scales of quasi-irony.

The knight took yesterday, today and tomorrow..
..lumped them together in one big hollow.
Tethered fate on the flimsy ropes oh his own making..

Now he swings, time to time,
as the cold night whistles.
And he huddles within, only reaching out to swat away the horde of incessant lasses.
He will not let the beam fall too close,
or whims...draw him close!

He will not let his cloak be yanked away.
Or show what lays beneath the darkened frays.

Dark Knight,
Sleek as night.

*****

1st stanza : The dark Knight is a perfect enigma. Not known, not seen.

2nd stanza : He is everyone's dream yet no one knows if he is a sweet dream or a nightmare.

3rd stanza : He is a muse yet hidden from view.

4th stanza : I have tried to know him, to reach inside his head and actually know him. But undecided

5th stanza : He has lumped his issues together and locked himself up in that hollow.

6th stanza : He is not completely immune to stimuli but never ever comes out of his hollow.

7th stanza : He is still in hiding. From what/who? or why? I don't know sad

Lastly, he is sleek as night, perfect allure, a delight to the senses. An enigma.

But I know, the cloak will be yanked off one day.

Business › Islamic Finance: The Way Forward? by semitunde(op): 3:38pm On Jan 20, 2015
Islamic finance has gone through an exceptional growth period in recent years, the number of fully sharia'a compliant banks continuevto increase worldwide.Islamic finance is practiced in more than 72 countries and sharia'a financial product are not only offered by Islamic banks, but equally by conventional banks using specific distribution channels. The term 'conventional' is used to identify the financial institutions that have formed part of the financial institution for a long time and not specifically based on Islamic principles.

The object of an Islamic finance undertaking is not simply the pursuit of profit, but that the economic benefits of the enterprise should extend to goals such as social welfare and full employment. The ethical framework recognises that capital has a cost associated with it and is in favour of wealth generation. However, making money with money is deemed immoral in sharia, that wealth should be generated via trade or investments.

Financial transactions are strongly based on sharing of risks and reward between the provider of fund ( investor ) and the user of fund ( the entrepreneur). It is on the contrary that conventional banks aim to profit by accepting money deposits in return for the payment of interest and then lending money out in return for the payment of a higher level of interest. Islamic finance does not permit the use of interest (Riba) because it is deemed forbidden.

Islamic bank arranges their business in such a way that the bank's profitability is closely tied to that of the client, the bank stands to take profit or make loss in line with the project they are financing and as such must be more involved in the investment decision making.

Islamic finance offers situable sharia compliant financial services which are in form of contracts that are related to the conventional banks procedure but the means of operation differ. There is the partnership contract (Mudarabah) where one partner contributes the capital and the other partner, the skills and expertise, the investor (rab al mal) is not to interfere in the day to day activities but profits are shared accordingly.

There is another form of contract (Musharakah) where both parties contribute both capital and expertise,it is similar to venture capital in conventional banking. Murabaha contract is another form where you can offer deferred payment sale or installment credit sales for goods bought or sold, that is you buy today and pay later.

Ijara contract is the equivalent of lease, this contract gives room for another party ( lessee ) to use his asset against the payment of a rental fee, the difference with conventional lease is that the risk and reward during the period of lease is with the lessor. The last form of contract is the Sukuk which is related to bonds, in Islamic finance there must be an underlying tangible asset, the ownership of the asset is transferred to sukuk holders. It is shorter in the life span compared to conventional bond.

In Conclusion, Islamic finance aims at the growth of the economy and nation building with the view of a fairer and less vague business activities which should be embraced by the government.

Let me share a short story about communication.

A lady I know was queried and about to be sacked in her office. She went to the boss's house to remonstrate and this conversation ensued:

Boss: All the works I gave you, none had been done, what are we paying you for?

Lady: but sir, I do the works I've been given.

Boss: Ok , have you done so and so? ( yes!); did you inform me that you've done it ( no sir...); so I will assume that you've not done it!

The last of the coverstion went on for like three works the Lady was given, but that she didn't let the boss know had been done. She was thinking that as the person in charge, communicating such minor works where she was expected to use her initiative, was not necessary- it was supposed to just be for the boss's information if she told him. It nearly cost her her job.

Pickabeau1 mentioned that it was unethical to let us know the result of the tests done without informing the patient. While thus is true, it isn't unethical to update on what's going on even if its to tell us you have done some tests but for some medical reasons you can't post it online for now, that you want to see the patient first. Sue for patience and more time from concerned nairalanders and periodically still update that about actions being taken behind the scenes- no matter how silly.

From experience, I've realised that stakeholders prefer a manager that constantly let's them know what's going on, to a very competent manager who just seems to get everything right, but without their input. So the sky is the limit when you're competent and you still fill them in and even ask for their input from time to time irrespective of your processes.

I'm not blaming TEHN cos I can understand their inputs. I'm just speaking from a project management purview. If you take decisions, however trivial in a large stakeholder project like this, without communicating why you took those decisions, people can assume nothing is being done.

Shalom.
