SportsRe: Why Isn't Rugby Bigger in Nigeria? by Seun(mod): 7:51pm On Jul 09, 2005
For those of us who don't know what obong is talking about:

"Rugby league is a team sport, played by teams of 13 players per side (usually plus 4 substitutes). The aim is to carry an oval ball up the field towards the opponents in-goal area.  Grounding the ball down behind this line scores a try, the main aim of the game.  Points may also be scored by kicking the ball between the prongs of a H-shaped set of posts located on the goal line.  The opposing team attempt to prevent scoring by tackling the player with the ball.  In addition to running with the ball, players may pass it backwards to a team-mate, or kick it in any direction they choose."

"Rugby union is a team sport that was (according to legend) developed from the rules used to play football at Rugby School in England. Two teams, each of 15 players have the task of outscoring the opposing team. Players clutch a prolate spheroid ball (see picture left) in their hands or arms, and may pass it backwards or laterally across the pitch, or kick it in any direction. The opposing players attempt to halt the ball-carrier by tackling him or her with their arms and bodies. When tackled, the ball carrier must release the ball, at which time a contest for possession of the ball commences (either a ruck or a maul)."

Obong, since Rugby football may refer to either Rugby league or Rugby union, I'd like to ask you to tell us which one you're referring to and why you think it should be popular in Nigeria.

IAH, most business sites do not have ads. Your assertion is ridiculous.

If your business does not have the resources to pay it's website hosting bill, how can I trust that you have the resources to satisfy my needs as a customer? It's shameful.

BusinessRe: Alhaji Aliko Dangote: What do you know about him? by Seun(mod): 9:57am On Jul 09, 2005
Dangote Group generally buys, sells, and manufactures in very large quantities, so their prices tend to be lower than those of the competitors. I do not understand what Ka is saying at all.

According to the article posted by ka, the issue of increase in price of sugar was caused by "the temporary closure of Dangote sugar refining plant in Lagos" and distributors taking advantage of the scarcity. It's not the job of the Dangote Group to police its distributors.

WesleyanA: this isn't an english report. it's an irrelevant post/blog so i really don't have to worry about grammar rules!
WesleyanA, statements like that could get you banned on this forum.

You do have to mind your grammar and spelling when posting on Nairaland and this forum is definitely not irrelevant. Didn't I send you a link to the Internet Writing Guide, and haven't you seen the first draft of our Nairaland Forum Participation Guidelines? Please.

BusinessRe: Theft at Work; Department is Under My Supervision by Seun(mod): 3:46pm On Jul 08, 2005
Thanks you, my friends, for reminding me of the reason why I'm determined to be an entrepreneur and not an employee. What a story! Why should I have to be weeping because one of my colleagues stole some food items worth about 15,000 naira?

To me, that is not dignified at all. What I'd do as a manager is to implement sufficient security to deter crime and make it easier to single out the culprit. Anyway, Greatpeter, I hope this situation ends well!

CrimeRe: Sexual Assault and Rape: Test your knowledge by Seun(mod): 7:51pm On Jul 07, 2005
well the matter of reporting is not even too important
The matter of reporting is very, very important. The only way to deter potential rapists is to make them realise that there will be very serious punishment for them if they try it.

Rape is about the man showing he has the power to get what he wants, and yes, a strong man has the power to get what he wants, but we need to let him know that after getting what he wants he will have to spend 2 years to life in a Nigerian jail. It is not a funny topic at all, especially not in these days where HIV is everywhere.

Gay marriage? No way!

What would you do if a video of you and your partner performing certain acts appeared on the Internet?

Nairaland GeneralRe: London Explosions by Seun(mod): 6:40pm On Jul 07, 2005
Please don't think of your friend's luck as a "testimony", because the person who took his/her place is a valuable human being, too. Let's not mock the memory of those who woke up in the morning to go to work instead of sleeping at home. There is no "testimony" in any tragedy.

sad

Is there anyone who wants to help me draft the rule-book?

The only rule I've been able to enforce so far is the one that says, "the admin is always right!" grin

LiteratureInternet Writing Guide (A Must-Read!) by Seun(mod): 9:28am On Jul 07, 2005
Hello,

The Internet Writing Guide, written in 1999 by a certain Timothy Campbell, is a must-read for every active member of this forum, especially those that have volunteered to be moderators. It teaches you how to write on your website, on forums and discussion groups, e-mail, et cetera.

I'd like to urge you to go to the site right now to read the guide:

When you've finished with it, you can come back to this thread to discuss it. Let's combine our efforts to make Nairaland a more reader-friendly forum!

Don't forget that it pays me not to moderate/edit at all, since it saves my time. I find it difficult to believe that it will be in the best interest of the forum, however.

Nairaland GeneralRe: How Old Are You? by Seun(mod): 7:11pm On Jul 06, 2005
Nice calculation, hot-angel. Thanks. Now I have to figure out who and who are among the 123 wink.

And, by the way, I'm postponing my birthday celebration for exactly 2 months because of certain current challenges which may spoil the day. September 17 is my new birthday wink.

There is something I realized recently. We have 1724 members in the forum. This means that, one any day within the year, there are 4-5 members of the forum celebrating their birthday(1724/365). So even as we're having this discussion there are 4-5 Nairaland users celebrating their birthdays today. Wow!

RomanceRe: To Know if your Boyfriend/Girlfriend is in Love with You by Seun(mod): 6:45pm On Jul 06, 2005
There is a friend of mine, a girl. I liked her more than I should, but she didn't reciprocate so much and she did some things that ought to have annoyed me. At first I refused to be discouraged by her actions, but later I decided to use my sense.

I will never know if she was just trying to test me, because as far as I was concerned she had failed my test by doing those things. You cannot test someone's love for you by being mean to the person, because at the same time the person is also testing you. What will happen at the end is that the person will come not value you as much as before.

Love is like a baby. When you feed it, it grows. Have you ever seen a mother who is trying to test the strength of her baby by withholding food from the baby? No, she feeds the baby and watches for signs of normal growth. Because she knows that the baby is to precious to be sacrificed for any stupid test.
