MODs, front page please. This is not a Fashola matter. The current Lagos state government seems not to be doing anything about completing the project. |
http://www.punchng.com/metro-plus/we-are-homeless-lagos-homs-winners-lament/ WE ARE HOMELESS, Lagos HOMS winners lament!! AUGUST 20, 2015 No fewer than 60 residents of Lagos State, who are winners in the state’s Home Ownership Mortgage Scheme, aka Lagos HOMS, have lamented that they have yet to take possession of the apartments allotted to them more than 10 months after paying. They said they were under pressure from their landlords to leave the flats they were presently staying. They explained that since they thought that they would move into their new apartments after winning the draw last year, they had made known their intention to leave. The winners, who belonged to the Mushin scheme, said despite paying millions of naira into government coffers for the required 30 per cent commitment fee, the state had yet to complete the project. The residents, who declined to give their full names so as not to be victimised, appealed to Governor Akinwunmi Ambode to “intervene urgently”. One of them, Akin, told our correspondent that he won a three-bedroom flat in the September 2014 draw, and paid N5.2m. He said, “I was asked to pay 30 per cent of the total money within 14 working days. I paid N5.2m, which was the commitment fee. “The timetable they gave us showed that I was supposed to move in around December. But they later said it was not feasible, pleading that I should give them more time. “I am in a fix now because nobody is communicating with me. I have been served a notice to quit by my landlord because I told him I had got a new place and would be moving out last year.” Another beneficiary, Ladi, said he paid for the scheme with all his life savings. He said relatives and neighbours whom he told that he had become a landlord now made mockery of him. Ladi, a civil servant, said, “As we speak now, the place is not habitable. There is no water or electricity and the few people on the site said the government was starving the contractors of funds. I gave my life savings to this project and the painful thing is that I have nothing to show for it.” PUNCH Metro learnt that the management of the Lagos HOMS, during a meeting with the beneficiaries, apologised for the delay and promised to meet with Ambode. Fisayo, who won a two bedroom flat, told our correspondent it was agreed that they would get a feedback two weeks later, but the representatives failed to do so. He said, “We wanted to be part of the delegation to the governor, but they said it was not necessary. They said they would get back to us in two weeks, but three weeks later, there was no communication. After we sent many messages to their email address, they finally replied us that our grievances had been forwarded to the appropriate channels.” A copy of the reply from the representatives, which was obtained by our correspondent, urged the winners to be patient with the management of the scheme. It read in part, “We have put together all the issues with the various schemes and forwarded them to the various authorities. We have been informed that these issues are being looked into in order to provide the best solution. Please continue to bear with us.” Another winner, Odunlade, said transparency was lacking in the scheme. “I have been served a notice to quit by my landlord, but I have nowhere to go. I have been left in the dark. I paid N5m and I have been left stranded,” he added. A civil servant, Modupe, told PUNCH Metro that her landlord had already put up her apartment for rent. “ My landlord has put up my apartment for rent and people have been coming in and out,” she said. She appealed to Ambode to look into the matter, adding that she believed that the governor did not know about their plight. Another beneficiary, Chidi, said, “They should tell us when they will complete the place. And they should give us value for our money. A three-bedroom flat is N17.2m. At 19 per cent interest rate, that makes it N25m in the long run.” PUNCH Metro was told that winners in the Igando and Sangotedo schemes were also affected. Our correspondent, who visited the site on Monday, observed that the five blocks of flats, which were awarded to four contractors, had already been painted. The project, which is under the New Towns Development Authority, was supposed to be completed within 52 weeks. When our correspondent opened the gate, the site was overgrown with weed. A few minutes later, three men entered with a sack. When asked about the state of the project, one of them, said, “I don’t know why the people have not moved in. The buildings have been painted. I am not a government official and cannot tell what the problem is.” An employee of Fadepo Nigeria Limited, who spoke with our correspondent on the telephone, urged the winners to be patient. The man, who did not mention his name, said, “We are trying to round off. I cannot give a specific time. It remains just the fittings.” A representative of Lagos HOMS, who did not identify herself, told PUNCH Metro that the management of the scheme was awaiting the delivery of the keys from the contractors. She said, “The place is still under construction and the home builders have yet to hand over the keys to us. Once they do that, we will contact the winners and give them their apartments. “Our directors had a meeting with the governor. Whenever they have a positive response, it will be related to the winners. They should be patient.” |
Guy, Finish your research program, six months is not a long time. The offer is not fantastic.......similar or better offers will come. There is no point abandoning what you are almost done with. |
Hello Mark. Great Job! You are a motivation. Just one question, What is the advantage of booking the hotels through your site as against calling them myself and making my reservations over the phone? Is it cheaper to book through your site........... |
wish him a quick recovery too |
OP na Olodo. Is $1,044 same as N1.5million?? |
SmartChoices:Some peeps do not read........they just post after looking at the headline. |
Please.....does she also bear Bola? Did she ever attend the University of Ilorin? Her face is very familiar |
omalistic:visit www.lagoshoms.gov.ng If you qualify.........you may be lucky. I am assuming you asked for the information in good faith..... |
They are still planning Planning since 1999. Lagos State has started giving out houses at affordable and competitive rates, some people are still planning. After the elections, the plan will be suspended till the next election...... |
mesoade:Olodo!!! Working in a bank does not mean you know accounting or mean you are an accountant. What sort of silly analysis is this? |
Which phone you dey use? It works perfectly on the BB 10 platform. |
Gondar: Don't be so sure bro. Angesom was Ethiopian 21 years agolol. It's like Ibo's supporting Yoruba's when/if Nigeria divides after the 2015 election. With the way they fight on Nairaland, your guess is as good as mine. |
patwilly: The Second eritrean official will definitely be sympathetic to the Ethophian cause. We dont want a flag waving from the sidelines for a "soft" penalty now, do we?Not true. Ethiopia and Eritrea are enemies. They are unlikely to support themselves. |
Promhize: Bill Gates -'I choose a lazy person to do a hard job. Because a lazy person will find an easy way to do it.'If you believe that then you are deceiving yourself. Bill Gates will choose a smart person rather than lazy person. Even Bill Gates himself is not lazy. The point is, if you want a job, be ready to fill forms, answer questions and write essays. Lazy applicant!!!! |
davide470: When I just saw the many, many questionnaire and *essay writing* on the application, I vex close the browser..Lazy applicant. You want a good job and you don't want the stress of filling out application forms and writing essays. What sort of graduates are we producing in Nigeria? No wonder most of them are unemployable. |
Some people are just crazy. So na Amaechi tell am to steal? |
A female president? Please we don't need a female president like Stella Oduah or PEJ. |
KenGali: Wannabe Whistle Blowers soon end up as Rumour Blowers when they spread falsehood about the Govt. in order to gain sympathy. With people like you, there is no hope for this country........but God pass all of una.......including your pay master. |
Billyonaire: Congrats to the whistle-blowers, those who inflated the purchase amount should be fired, arrested and thrown into jail. Meanwhile the Minister of Aviation if found culpable should resign honorably.See how deceptive you are. GEJ is looking for the whistle blowers that leaked the information so that he can sack them. If He is transparent and wants to fight corruption, he should sack the minister first for turning the NCAA into her procurement unit. |
Sec5: They forced Barth Nnaji,Odimegwu and other credible transformation crew to resigng. Now,it is Odua's time to be forced out leaving only non performing ministers. Please don't put the thieving Stella in the class of performing ministers. I don't even understand how you people will justify this blatant case of corruption. |
Really? can this story be true? Considering its from Osun Defender. |
Jibson999: A friend of mine just ranting about his relationship, so I decided 2 bring it 2 da house............................................................False!!! First born girls are matured and can take care of the house and family but they are not control freaks. Have you seen a first born girl trying to control her younger brother? If they can't do that to their yonger brother then they won't do it to their husbands or boyfriends. Being a control freak does not have anything to do with position. |
Obasanjo's most important legacy after the GSM revolution is the Pensions Reform. He removed the administration of pension from the hands of the Government and placed the management with the more efficient private sector. Now GEJ wants to mess up the whole arrangement by amending the act so that the Goverment can deep their hands into the pension funds for infrastructure development. That was the Government can borrow money from the pension funds and steal. Now that's GEJ's legacy. |
She is young and immature. My advice: Let her go and look for a matured woman that is at the least 25 or 26. All these small girls too get issues. By the time she is 25, her eye go clear. |
spicy v: Oga sharpman, this your fabu no sharp at all! The "Illorin" girl you are claiming to know personally, that story is on Ese's blog, and the girl said she and the pastor did everything aprt from sleeping together.Lol, you don't know me and i don't know you. My story is not fabu at all. She was a medical student at the university of Ilorin and she was based in Ilorin. I know the girl from secondary school. She was a worker in COZA Ilorin her mum and the Pastor's spiritual father (another pastor in Ilorin) was also involved. The whole thing was buried so a lot of people did not know. If u like believe, if you like no believe but i know the Pastor is a serial offender so i am not surprised by this new story. By the way, what do you mean by did everything apart from sleeping together. I have not seen the story on Ese's blog and it may well be someone else since i know of more than one occasion. |
GeneralShepherd: Aproko things!!!! Where's the evidence?Lol...... As per the first one, i know for sure as i personally know the lady that was involved, but no evidence as i was not there when the nacking took place. For the second one, i heard from a reliable source. |
topeliasu: Sister Ese of God i celebrate you, surely there are 2sides to every story, you see ese, theres more to christainity than being a church goer, christainity is a religion,COZA is not a religion, its obvious you got it wrong from the start no wonder you missed it @ d end, The Commonwealth of Zion Assembly is not a church its an Assembly,(i.e a group of pep gathered together in one place for a common purpose) we r not a generation dat plays church(i.e a building used for christain worship, a particular christain org with its own clergy building and distinct doctrines),we r not self righteous, you see this drama you just pulled on, all of this is on u,COZA Worker, Aside this Sister Ese, i also know of two similar stories involving your Pastor. 1. As far back as 2002 or 2003 in Ilorin, long before the Abuja church was planted. A certain sister was taken advantage of by the same pastor, the scandal was hurriedly covered up so most people did not hear about it. Even the lady's mum (she's based in Ilorin) was involved. I know the lady personally. 2. The second one involved a family friend. I don't have enough details about this one. Based on the previous information i have, i am not surprised as i believe he is a serial offender. Bottom line, don't worship your pastor because he is human and can fall into sin. When you go to church, you should only focus on God. |
coogar: two adults in the church committed a cardinal sin - one of them is the leader in the church. common sense dictates an elder should mediate the crisis. the two should be asked to confess their sins to this elder in the church and the matter should close after that. i really don't see the point in the publicity - she claims she is warning others, that's just a cheap excuse!!!Elder? who is the elder here? Pastor Flo? Who employed Pastor Flo? Who pays Pastor Flo's salary? Do you really think and believe that Pastor Flo would be able to correct and admonish his senior pastor? |
