In short the miners got what the deserved maybe next time they will think first before believing that some witch doctors blessing and potions can stop a 5.56mm piece of metal traveling faster than the speed of sound.

1. Does she really need a BB?

Is it the workers union that deducts and remits pension contribution or the employer?

My understanding is that the employer does the deductions since the salary is paid by them and then remits to the pension fund administrator. so how come the workers union is involved in this case?

Eyewitnesses accuse LASTMA of framing female banker

Some eyewitnesses on Monday insisted that a female banker, Yinka Johnson, accused of crushing an official of the Lagos State Traffic Management Agency, was not culpable.

Detectives attached to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation visited the crime scene on Monday for an on-the-spot assessment.

But as soon as the team arrived, scores of eyewitnesses told the detectives, led by Mr. Solomon Ogochukwu, that the LASTMA official was crushed by a commercial bus driver while he was attempting to cross the road.

One of the witnesses, Simon Eze, said, “The banker was driving against traffic and was attempting to navigate to the other side of the road when she was accosted by LASTMA officials.

“The lady pleaded with them but they were adamant. Even one man in a red car alighted from his vehicle to plead with them but the officials refused and went to get a towing vehicle.

“As one of the officials attempted to cross the road, he was crushed by a commercial bus but he did not die on the spot. The LASTMA officials suddenly blamed the banker and accused her of killing their colleague.”

The witness said the commercial bus driver whose vehicle was damaged, stopped for a while but later sped off.

Another eyewitness, Ilonze Benjamin, said the LASTMA officials could be careless at times in their bid to enforce traffic laws by jumping in front of moving vehicles.

Benjamin described the spot where the accident occurred as “very dangerous,” adding that many people had lost their lives on the spot.

He said, “The LASTMA official was not crushed by the lady. He had seized the car keys and was attempting to cross the road when he was hit.

“The modus operandi of LASTMA extortion is that they seize car keys of errant motorists and walk far away from the vehicle so that the motorist will follow them. After the motorist follows them to a corner, they collect bribe and allow the culprit to go.

“Those LASTMA guys have been doing this for a long time now but unfortunately, the deceased did not look well when he was crossing the road.”

PUNCH Metro observed that detectives and LASTMA officials set up objects on the road to illustrate how the accident occurred, while pictures of the scene were also taken.

But an unidentified LASTMA official insisted that the banker crushed his colleague.

As witnesses pointed out inconsistencies in the official’s claim, one of the officials burst into tears, accusing the witnesses of conspiring against the officials of the agency.

“Many of these so-called eyewitnesses were not there when the incident occurred. My colleague was killed by the woman. It’s because members of the public don’t like us that is why they are ganging up against us,” he said.

A resident, who craved anonymity, urged the state government to install CCTV cameras along the expressway for security reasons.

“With the new traffic laws in Lagos State, CCTV has become necessary in order to save citizens from being framed by traffic officials and policemen,” she said.

Some of the witnesses later wrote statements and handed them over to the detectives.

The General Manager, LASTMA, Babatunde Edu, had in a statement on Friday – the day the incident occurred – accused Johnson of killing the official, Hameed Balogun, while she was driving against traffic along Lekki-Epe Expressway.

The GM had said, “Balogun was killed by the banker along the expressway while he was carrying out his official assignment at his duty post at Mega City, Ajah area of Lagos.

“The banker, an employee of IBTC drove in a Green Landrover SUV with number plate CY 276 LSD against traffic from Mega Chicken inward toll Plaza two and was intercepted by three officials of LASTMA.

“Johnson started driving recklessly in order to escape and in the process ran over the officer. The deceased was rushed down to Germaine Hospital where he later died as a result of injury sustained from the accident.”

Her spokesman, Mr Ayo Osinlu, stated this yesterday during an interview with an online medium, PREMIUM TIMES.

Governor Seriake Dickson had on Wednesday appointed the wife of President Goodluck Jonathan as a permanent secretary in the Bayelsa State civil service alongside 17 other senior civil servants in the state.

But Osinlu claims that, unlike the others appointees, the first lady will hold her office in absentia.

“She is on leave of absence. She is not going to function in the office of the permanent secretary in Bayelsa State. It is a civil service position. She is a staff of the Bayelsa State civil service. But she will also not collect any perk for the office. It will be illegal for her to draw salary from the office,” he said.

According to Osinlu, the first lady is apparently delighted at the appointment, saying that she had no cause to publicly accept or decline the appointment.

The president’s wife, who left the Bayelsa State civil service 13 years ago after her husband became the deputy governor of the state, was elevated to the position usually reserved for senior civil servants.

Governor Dickson had claimed that he made the appointment in line with the constitutional powers conferred on his office.

The objective is to make her retire as a Perm Sec.......the most senior civil service post. That way, she will be entitled to a fat pension and gratuity when she eventually retires. These people are so greedy.....the money she's stealing as first lady is not enough. She wants to insure her future. God is watching....and when his wrath comes on ALL of them, they will be consumed.

edicolove: You miss my point, I am looking at the bigger picture. I think the bigger picture is to address the Federal character mentality. I have always said Nigeria's problem is not corruption but the federal structure. After years of military rule, certain mindsets has been instilled into the average Nigerian. One of those mindset is that you have to give preference to your own no matter what. Now the problem with that is that we allow this freely in the North but attack it in the south. But the problem is that if we want to eradicate it completely, we have to eradicate it across board. I will give you a fact to corroborate what am saying.

Do you know what excalated the militancy in the creeks? Back in the 90s, militancy was not that cool. They were more like cults operating around port harcourt and going to the creeks to do Bunkering from time to time. The Dey Bam, Highlanders, etc. But something interesting happened. After the Saro wiwa crisis, Abacha decided to do a PR stunt. He invited many of these youths to Abuja to show that government was interested in helping the people of Niger Delta. When they got there, they were amazed at what they saw. They saw what oil money was doing in Abuja. Instead of feeling happy at the president's gesture, they became really really angry and when they returned back, they vowed they were going to fight to the end for resource control. From then on, it didnt matter whether any body was embezzling money as far as he is from Niger Delta, they will say, its our own. That is the beginning of sophisticated militancy as you know it today. If we must talk justice, then we must also talk equity. I will continue to take side with justice and fairness as long as it applies to all. Telling us we cant do what we see others doing is just wrong. I have never seen south west critics come on the street to protest against BH. Never! I have never seen them come out to protest against the north's unfair federal character leverage. I dare say that if GEJ was a northener. He wont get a tenth of the criticism he is getting from you guys. When Turai held the country to ransom, she didnt get this much attack. It is a case of many of you, south west peeps especially, being afraid of the north. That is my position.

I don't agree that El-Rufai is a hypocrite.

I also do not believe in all the lies peddled against him. I think that if he is guilty of the corruption he is being accused of, with the way he has been attacking the government, he should have been brought to book. The current Government does not seem to have any concrete evidence to hold against him. The government can also revoke the land he allocated to himself.

Except the government is not sincere about fighting corruption.

Concerning his tenure as FCT minister, it is very clear, that El-Rufai is till this day, the most effective minister the FCT ever had, except we don't want to be truthful with ourselves.

That said, i don't think he is a nationalist. He is a Northerner, and that is where his loyalty is.
