My labour was prolonged (almost 24 hours) and included extra fetal monitoring by the nurses...
- I used a whole lot of medications because I was induced (reason for induction was that USS said my baby was big - turned out not to be so big after all).

Baby did not incur any additional charges so I have received my zero balance letter for baby.
How did they determine ur baby was big? And at how many weeks? Dunno why I'm feeling I have a big baby and I'm a tad bit scared for labour and delivery. Scared of tear and all. Pls what was ur experience? And yes I'm naive as heck on this, na my 1st. cry

Thanks to everyone that responded! Yea after speaking with the Dr's office they advised I cut out soda/juices entirely! And the kind of milkshake I've been swallowing since I got here it's appalling! sad

I'm in my third trimester oh. My mama advise high protein intake with reduced carbs and walking frequently. I was a big baby, she said I was 4.5kg and I asked my MIL, she said my husband was over 4.5kg lol! We are both CS pikins. But she said it doesn't always follow sha, to do what my mum advised and just commit to God's hands, that's all! grin

Quick question to 2nd (and more times) mothers....pls how does one stop the chances of having a big baby? As in what can I do to reduce the chances of that happening? Because that will mean CS and I don pay for vaginal undecided.
Of course my priority is the best delivery for my child, but can I do anything to greatly reduce that chance?

Uncle baauh, ignored my question. Which answers my doubt of if u are Nigerian. Becoz I kinda don't think u are? I believe u are Indian? Or of Asian background? Not that it matters or anything, but u will most likely get an answer relative to what Nigerians go through and how the consulate works IN Nigeria, which might not suit ur peculiar case. Plus ur father-in-law is all up in ur business, trait common with Asians. Then again I stand corrected undecided

I must admit this forum has been so informational.I have a little situation and need some advise.
I obtained my US visa in Nigeria almost five years ago while I was working there and was a resident.I later moved to Ghana and have been using the visa since.by the way am Ghanaian and hold a Ghana passport.
My question is,do I need to consult the embassy and tell them about my change of travel purpose or just leave it as it is and use the visa for birthing.I sent them a general email without identification just to know their response..
I off course intend to pay all bills but don't want any whahala when I have to renew my visa.
Thanks and I will be awaiting response..
God bless
U have been using the visa right? U are fine, u don't need to notify them. I didn't notify the embassy because I have used my current visa several times before I even got married, or even conceived. No issues at POE.
I think u only send letter if u were pregnant at time of visa application and didn't state ur intention then, or if u never used it for the purpose in which u were granted it in the first place. None applies to u, so u are fine.

Hmm, you guys can travel but your baby who was born in the US can't travel without a passport/visa since he/she is an american citizen by virtue of being born in d US.

You are advised to process an American passport n Nigerian visa for your baby

Regards
he/she said baby will leave with HOME country passport.

@baauh, yes u can apply for the US passport in your home country. The baby will have to be brought to the consulate though. I know for a fact that this works in Canada and Nigeria. People apply for their American passports in the American Embassy in Canada and it gets processed. The same applies for the Embassy in Abuja. It is also same thing for UK. So yes u can travel with your baby and apply in your home country as long as u have the BC and other required proof.

I don come again. Pls some one said earlier that she used an agent to get baby's documents faster. Can't remember the page. Pls could someone assist me.on that? Want to leave this place as soon as possible cos I started my maternity leave weeks before I put to bed.
why are u blaming us now for baby's documents? Eh? Why are u blaming us for maternity leave?

Well maybe because I live in USA and believe in thorough medical check. All I also meant is that the doctor is not trying to take your money, he's just trying to be sure. You can decline the test if you think you are alright. I was a pharm in Nigeria before I moved to Texas so I know better.

No one should quote me onto this matter. I was only using my America mentality. I know dollar-naira rate haff increased. Sorry mamas trying to be prudent grin cheesy
No one really cares if u live in the moon. Not all of us here live in naija. U were DEAD WRONG for twisting her post. Apologise and move on...quit tryna sound all smart and wiggle ur way out of it! Simple! In fact when I read ur post accusing her of blaming people here, I had to go back to what she posted to see if I missed a thing.
How do u know they're not trying to take her moneyhuh Or because u think Americans can't be thieves? My dear please, since u are just here to show off ur location and not help folks, step away from the thread. All u have done is "school" people here like they never entered plane b4. U are even lucky she responded to u in a civil manner and didn't come for ur jugular, like some of us grin.
So just accept u were wrong and let it go. Hiss!
TravelRe: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedure? by Shawbabe: 11:12pm On Jan 21, 2015
For everyone emailing, I can't respond to all the emails one by one, it's a task on its own. And since it's one question of hospital and dr, here's the response:

If you click on my name and check my posts, u will see the plan is for Northside Atl hospital. U can google the hospital and get their number, call them and get quotes from them. As for Dr, most Drs here require ur records before they give you a quote based on what care you have received so far. So just google Obgyns in Atlanta area attached to what hospital of your choice, then go from there.
It really is research in this Georgia, so there's no one specific quote, U can also check out MrsDan and Dakotchic posts. They are previous Atl mums.
Hope this answers all your questions. Sorry just that I cant reply 16 emails with the same question undecided
TravelRe: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedure? by Shawbabe: 7:59pm On Jan 21, 2015
@tvegas, nope! I am not saying this coz I'm safe. Like FavouredB said confidence and knowledge is wealth. All these begging attitude of Nigerians is why the talk and treat folks anyhow like u committing a crime. The only thing that made me nervous was that I had only 40 bucks on me! So yes that would have been a good reason to send someone back, but still I would prove to them the funds is available.
The letter is VERY over rated!

@ justwise...*yawns* u wrote with authority na, so I'm wondering if u work for DHS now. tongue

Shawbabe you are right but this letter of intent has helped to build ppls 'burden of proof' and has been requested for by cbp in lots of ppls poe stories so please don't downplay it by saying it's overrated. If it will help one feel more confident let them go ahead and get it. We won't be there when they face the cbp. Like u said, your experience was the favour of God so just because u were not asked for it doesn't mean it's overrated. Biko. Thx sis kiss

Lol my dear. biko how is my own different? Am I related to Obama? I will repeat! It is OVER RARTED! Your relative told u she was sent back because of JUST the letter? Where u there with her? Do u know if she failed to meet other requirements? Do u know how the CBP officers assessed her overall before making their decision? Look the thing with Nigerians is we are always scred of immigration officers even when we are doing no wrong! Do u know if your relative's countenance was observed and she came across as dodgyhuh Look one thing u guys need to understand is for every case that they turn down or send back, they account to their Senior/Chief officer as to reason why, and they also bear in mind that a complaint/appeal could be filed against them. They will not send anybody back without good judgement and reason on their part.
If your relative had everything right, including body language there is NO way only a letter of intent got her sent back. And the reply we have seen so far from the embassy on here, states u have NO LEGAL REQUIREMENT to notify them! If that's not clear English I dunno what is. wink

@shawbabe,

congrats on your poe story. Please I want to ask if there was any thing during your stop over in Paris. trying to buy the delta ticket that will go through Paris because it is cheaper this but hubby is worried that we don't know how receptive they are in Paris to avoid unnecessary stories that touch.

tried sending you a PM sef but don't really know how to go about it
Receptive how? u are not coming to sleep in Paris or tour the Eiffel tower lol. U are transiting so there's no reception waiting for u. U land and proceed to ur connecting flight gate. U are not there to interact with the French or beg them. So u'll be absolutely fine.

Hello everyone, i am asking this question on behalf of my wife........ she already has a valid US visa which was issued to her when she was in the UK. Though it was b4 we got married and she visited US last year march.......... My question is that, is it necessary to write an Intent mail to the embassy letting them know that my wife is going to give birth in her next visit?

Please any one going to WHMC (West Houston Medical Center) or using Dr. Dr Jeanie Huynh?
that letter of intent thing is over-rated. As long as she has traveled before on the visa, shoe doesn't need to send anything. I didn't send any letter becoz I already had speech and answer planned to give them if they give me wahala lol. But God was in control all through.

@ kairi and lalavita, thanks!
TravelRe: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedure? by Shawbabe:
I might as well get it over with lol

My POE story....in the spirit of giving back

I flew Air France/Delta from the calmest city in Naija...Abuja grin

The checking in process was ok. No stress, they had me go to Port Health and get a certificate to fly even though I had my own from my Dr. They insisted on the one from theirs, so I went there with my mum and the lady in the office had the nerve to charge 2k naira for it, I was about to flip and say HELL NO! But my mama peacemaker of life, took charge and paid. I was already pissed! angry Why would I pay 2k for what i have? Nonsense! Anyway we left and off we went to lounge to relax, then boarded. I was given a bulkhead seat at my request. So the flight to Paris was OK. I slept like a baby all through.
We landed Paris and my feet was the size of tree trunks lol. My mum had me put it up while we waited. Our layover was just 1hr 30 mins, so we left for Atl. The flight to Atl was even better, I watched like 4 films coz it's a 9hr flight, the hostesses were awesome, especially the black lady. She kept giving me bottles of water, food and juice. I walked around as much as I could coz I was so scared about the size of my feet but my mama said I should relax lol.
Anyway we landed ATL, and the queue to Immigration wasn't long, we were the only flight that landed that early so the line was fast. It got to us, and off we went to the window:

CBP Officer to me: Hello ma'am how are u?
Me: I'm good and u?
CBP: I'm fine thanks. Are u two together and whats the connection?
Me: That's ma lovely Mama
CBP and Mama: Laughs
CBP: So whats the purpose of ur trip?
Me: Vacation and child birth
CBP: Oh ok. Place your right hand on the fingerprint machine pls
Me: (I place my had and removed my glasses for the face capture)
CBP: (Stamps me in and takes mum's passport): Purpose of trip?
Mama: To attend meeting and look after my daughter pre and post delivery
CBP: Ah she's a lucky one ain't she? Dragging u with her to care for her
Me and mama: Laughs!
CBP to Mama: Place your hand on the machine please? (Stamps mum's passport, 6 months each.)

He hands us both our passport and asks me when I'm due and if hubby will join me, I respond in 3 months and hubby will arrive closer to due date, he said no worries goodluck and all the best.

Off we went to pick our baggages and proceeded to hand in the Declaration form. We had ogbono, crayfish, stockfish and Dry fish.

The two men looked over the forms and said 'oh wow yall actually declared your food' and smiles. His colleague laughs and says yea you ladies are free to go. And off we went!

The whole process was under 2 minutes, no documents were asked, even though I had burden of proof in my handbag and didn't bother emailing any Intent letter to the embassy lol. I just thought that one na long process jare, sides I'm not required to. Got the visa many years ago and used it more than 12 times so no need.

Oh I should also mention I had only $40 dollars cash with me lol. Becoz i had transferred all the money to the Bank of America account, and with exchange rate now, I couldn't be bothered to change anything for handy cash jo. I had the print out of hubby's BoA account statement anyway in case issues arose.

Got home and put my feet up. The swelling has since disappeared, so I thank God for divine favour and all went smoothly. So na to sit and wait for baby arrival. kiss
