Travel / Re: U.S. Embassy Abuja New Procedure For Drop Box Renewals by Shinatu: 10:29am On Dec 21, 2013
This will bring so much relief to people staying outside Lagos and Abuja, planning a 2/3 days' trip to go renew your visa is such a big waste of manhours.

I had thought that these foreign embassies would do this (for renewals) once we started using the e-passport.

Lovely picture, I could not help but smile when I saw it, but Funke i think it should be termed 'on the journey to my dreams' you gals were young talents about to explode and there is nothing wrong in being broke as you pursue your dreams.

A bunch of hypocrites! I cannot just fathom how leaders will gather, listen to Mandela's sacrifice for his people with all seriousness and still be thieves enslaving their own people.

Family / Re: And What's So Special About The Male Child? by Shinatu: 4:21pm On Dec 06, 2013
Area-Fada:
.

Even in the bible?

A girl is married AWAY, a boy brings another man's daughter and add to his own family. To become his Mrs.

Whether the wife was raised by Mazi Okeke, Otunba Amodu or Alhaji Dambau, is immaterial.

Until the time comes when you escort a groom to the bride's house and given to the woman and her family in marriage, we're where we're.

It is disingenuous for ladies to twist this thread to "men say women are worth less than men".

It is not. Majority of men dote on their daughters more than their sons. Both sexes simply have different roles.

Women can chose to totally ignore their birth family if very comfortable in marriage. And she can do so without name calling/consequences. Boys cannot.

Is it the same Bible that says 'so shall a man leave his mother and father and cleave to his wife'?

Na wa o, for the way we have 'traditionallly doctored' this bible.

It is so funny the different things that come to people's minds from this picture, what i thought of when I saw this picture was
'E yaa see woman life'!
This is simply the life of a woman with a job, while your male counterparts have only the task at hand to focus on, you have other attention seeking 'issues' , you are expected to do them all and very well too!

I hear people say she will hate you for not doing it. Yes she may dislike you for now, but you will be greatly respected by her anywhere you meet her in the future.
I really do not understand this 'if you do not do it another person will' is that supposed to be a strong reason for doing the wrong thing? the fact that if you do not someone else would?
Celebrities / Re: Why I Married Peter Okoye Despite The Fact He Is My Junior – Lola Omotayo by Shinatu: 12:02pm On Dec 03, 2013
I am really surprised that she actually started having a relationship with hi when he had no money, one of the first things that crossed my mind was that the only thing that would make a girl like Lola look his way would be money! I am not sure that her parents supported them, I just have this feeling that they would have wanted another 'type' of man for their daughetr.
Career / Re: Teaching Job Is Now Hot Cake In Nigeria(My Experience). by Shinatu: 9:34am On Nov 29, 2013
My son's teacher is a wonderful teacher, she studied Geology and was good enough to pick up a job anywhere and according to her ,was actualy preparing to join Slumberger, but while at home on their street one day she saw a baby in a pool of her urine crying on the floor in front of the house while the Nanny that was supposed to be taking care of the Child was busy gisting with the gate man, she made up her mind that day to go for a job that would enable her stay with her kids more, now she is consulted throughout the South South, she has resigned from a well known private primary School in PH and started her own Nursery School last September, she has more passion for Pre School because she beleives it is the foundation.

What is my point? Many people did not study Education in the University because they were not previledged to think of what they really wanted due to the way the Teaching profession is perceived, some people discover their love for it accidentally/unplanned and they may make better teachers than those who read Education in School, ofcourse these people will have to then go for some form of Teaching training e.g PGD/Masters in Education.

charlie193:

Errors

1. Your sentence:"When I gained admission in 2009, I didin't really like it. I wanted 'pure' English, not under Education".

It is not I didin't .... it is "I didn't"

2. Your sentence:"I went to work today, but now I'm through for the day".

This is a very simple rule in English Language. Use of "and" and "but". The first one is a conjunction for two positive statements or negative statements, while "but" is a conjunction use for one positive statement and negative statement. In your case "and" is the appropriate word.

3. Your sentence:" When I read my hand-outs now, I see everything in 3D, HD and even ZD!"

This is also a conjunction problem (I guess you need to improve or read up about joining your statement). Better write: "Reading my hand -out now, I see everything in 3D . . ." OR just removed the "comma" and reconstruct the phrase into a complete statement.

P.S. Meanwhile, It is a good one from you. I rate you 80% (Oops! Did you say you studied English? If yes . . . Rate=20%)

@Chalie193

I beg, for my own learning, explain point 3 more clearly, especially how the commas should come.
I also do not understand the 'removed' in that sentence, is it supposed to be 'remove'?

It just pains some men to see a woman doing well without a husband, they just cannot stand the 'effrontery', she suddenly becomes an 'ashawo'.

There are many male leaders/business men in Africa who have very lousy homefront and lack self control when it comes to women, no one rains condemnation on them, those ones are role models abi?

Family / Re: Are You Sending Your Housemaids To School? by Shinatu: 5:13pm On Nov 25, 2013
I wonder how much 'help' people get from these underaged house helps, Once you are deemed comfortable in this country, many peoople especially those who are close enough to know how decent you are will, want to force one girl or the other on you and like all that has been said on this thread, in a minor/madam case the madam is always the evil witch so why bother? one is free to punish one's child in public in Nigeria and no one raises an eyebrow, once it is a house girl, you see people trying to explain what was done wrong, why do you want to go though that?

I have always insisted on grown ups (above 18) that can collect the money they work with themselves, most of them end up wasting the money no matter how much I try but na dem sabi.

A girl was sent to me and I sent her back in 2 weeks despite having paid a substantial amont of money as school fees, books etc in a private school), she was younger than they claimed, all the documents she came with had different DOBs, I was told the father died and she could not be regular in school, so i thought let me see what I can do.

The girls had an attitude, she felt any instruction I gave was just for talk and not for her to follow, how will I handle that without being called a witch and not grow old before my time?

I have a 27year old housekeeper who comes daily, (and understands that he who must eat must work, a child does not understand that and is not expected to at that age) ) except on Sundays, so the girl had far far more to gain from being in my house than whatever little little chores that might have come her way.

I would like a shop that is fully into cosmetics.

They prefer that type o! It is easy to feel/ be considered smart with those ones, being with someone like Chimamanda will expose their mediocrity.

They are actually mad that she is married, they have been looking forward to laughing at her at 40years of age when she would still be 'unfortunate' to be single, cant you see the amount of venom coming the poor guy's way?

Lerin: Mine is not physical abuse but get so tensed and makes me look worthless cos I have no job, though I try my best to fill in the gaps from what I get from the pure water biz I do,and some petty things, I know that all this will change the moment I get something more tangible to do. I am a graduate of accouting and stay in Portharcourt, pls anyone who can help me with a Job should please assist cos the trauma I go tru from his attitude towards can't be explained. PLS FELLOW NAIRALANDERS help me so I can have the fulfilment of marriage. Thanks.

Can you imagine? and someone will accuse a 'bread winner' wife of being disrespecful, and tell her to be sweet and nice to a jobless husband.
At least the jobless wife still has her contribution to the family, there are still needs she meets, and if there are kids, the responsibility to nuture them is hers mainly, but the jobless husband is practically useless in Nigeria.

I am glad the message has been passed over and over again on this thread, it is not only in marriage, but in all human relationship, many people would want to control/maniplate you if they beleive they have some power over you or they think you have no worth without them.

Please do not ever give anyone that chance, respect and honour others, but no one should play god over you except God Himself.

Family / Re: Married Women Should Stop Allowing Their Husbands Go Out Unkempt by Shinatu: 11:51am On Sep 13, 2013
Women are in trouble! anyway I do not think anyone should criticize a woman/man untill you know much about the situation from both sides.

I cannot imagine adding grooming a grown adult to the children I need to bath, dress up and feed, pack lunch/homework, school bag, water bottle etc for and get out of the house to their various schools before I resume work by 7am.

If he cannot help with any of these, the least he can do is to take care of his bloody self, and if my inability to do all these is what will 'give room' to another woman to do it, no problem, the woman can go ahead, we will see for how long she can do it for.

I am now convinced that many people cannot make an objective judgment once it is something they are passionate about.
So bananas have been trown in the past, is this particular white guy the one that threw the bananas?
The guy's request was based on a security advice issued by an organised body responsible for doing that and it was just a request!
Which was investigated and rejected, so what is Keshi getting furious about making unneccesary 'agbero' comments?
