TV/MoviesRe: Top 10 Best Nollywood Movies You Watched 2012 by sholay2011(m): 7:21am On Dec 27, 2012
All the movies listed above make sense...even wiv superb acting. Talk abt ramsey noah and funlola aofiyebi in 'figurine', or nse ikpe etim in 'mr nd mrs' or funke akindele in 'maami'.
It's gud when we criticise dem sometimes, but nigerians lack d skill of constructive criticism...as if they wud av done smth far better.

Pyrrho: OP, OP. Wat shld our Writers write abt? Shld they write abt d love, wen many brothers ar dying of bomb blasts and one police officer jst slapped u at d junction. Shld u write abt a bright future, wen thr is no electricity? Shld I write abt an utopia, wen my salary is delayed, even though its xmas?
Jst tak a look at d last thread, wat an 'interesting' question.
Take it easy bro. D OP isn't saying ppl shudnt write abt societal themes or av historic events as dia story background, but Nigerian writers shud find d balance between writing for entertainment of d mind and writing for a social cause. Ironically, william shakespeare is known mainly for combining both...but wiv more emphasis on entertainment of the mind.

breathing: yeah I agree with you that not all works of creative arts need to send a message, but I disagree when you say it is only the old generation who patronise these works of art. If you start following writers on facebook you would see an amazing number of young people who want to read, and what's even more amazing is that most of them want to read
genres that no one is writing in Nigeria yet.

Tnx very much for this post. You may nt know that it has encouraged me to go ahead wiv d publishing of my book entitled- 'Louder'. It's of d drama genre. I noticed almost every popular writer of today writes in prose nd I've always been skeptical about the success of my book. It has a gud storyline which luckily is nt the usual 'civil war' story background dat dt OP emphasized. Tnx for d post.

I think the first author who takes up genres like this, and dedicates time and effort to it, would be able to make a good living out of it. These days everyone is talking about it, but no one is actually doing it.

Bad belle plenty for dis nairaland sef. Y d fuss abt her size? Isn't ini edo in d same size range or a bit bigger? And as for ppl saying she didn't mentn d names of nollywood stars, dat may av been done unconsciously. We read too much meaning into statements. At least, she recognised d fact that Nse-Ikpe etim nd genny re senior colleagues shez hitching to work with. If you are very well xposed to hollywood filmmaking, what is done in Nollywud wud be like ABC. U dnt xpect me to be aware of great actors like daniel-day lewis and robert deniro who took method acting to another level and still be shouting Olu jacobs, even though I will give him his total dur respect. Tobitbooks: Publishing is a broad step with many parts. A publisher actually don't charge for ISBN. When you give them a book to publish, your fees covers everything.
Nevertheless, you can buy an ISBN from the publisher for 6000 naira. I.e if you want to self publish.
Or simply, you can just upload your manuscript to us and we will publish your books in the next five days for 55 naira per copy with 150 copies as the minimum. Then pay additional 4000 to get ISBN.
Thanks. Send a mail to tobitbooks@yahoo.com
TOBIT. ...Write.Publish.Sell
Did you just say you guys publish books within 5 days?? what of proofreading and proper editing? 'Correct' cover design and d rest?? Abegii!!

LiteratureThe Drama Genre by sholay2011(op): 3:58pm On Nov 17, 2012
Hello. It has come to my notice that most well-known writers from Nigeria are into the prose genre. I have a manuscript that is already on its way to publishing by MagicWand publishers; it's of the drama genre. I just want to know what people perceive of this genre and why it has not been that popular in my dear country?

And by the way, my upcoming book is entitled 'Louder'. wink

Why Mother is always so Special...
When I came home in the Rain,
*Father asked : "why didn't u take an
umbrella??"
*Sister advised : "why didn't u wait till
the rain stopped??"
*Brother angrily warned: "Only after
getting a cold u will realize!!"
*But Mother, while drying my hair, said:
"Stupid Rain! couldn't it wait till my

child came home...??!!
That's why! All mothers are special,
GOD bless them.

Christianity EtcWho Was Melchizedek In The Bible? by sholay2011(op): 10:28pm On Oct 03, 2012
This question raced through my hearts when I studied some portions of the bible. In Genesis, Abraham was said to have paid his tithe to this man called Melchizedek who had no genealogy. He was then mentioned in another portion of the bible as the king of salem (salem is an hebrew word for peace) and was also a priest. who else is both a king and a priest in the bible if not Jesus Christ? Please, what do you guys think?

LiteratureRe: English Speaking Versus Writing, Which Is More Difficult? by sholay2011(m): 9:49pm On Sep 15, 2012
FrontPageLawyer: For many, learning to write fluently in English is much more challenging than learning to speak fluently. written communications can come much more slowly in English than spoken communications.

on this forum, I have come to realize that mistakes are not permitted in English writing. It is a taboo even though typographical errors are allowed in some cases. So many members have fallen victim including me on "typographical errors". Yesterday I saw a member's comment on a particular thread “picture of AY and wife in New York City”. He erred while commenting, I said to myself in laughter "this person has murdered English language and he will find no sleep" before I could refresh page 2, the thread has already jumped to page 4 and insult keeps cascading, members capitalizing on the mistake made. Attention was immediately shifted from the main topic and the focus was on this erring member until the thread got to page 10. One good thing is that, you'll learn from your mistake immediately. Reasons why we are here, share ideas, learn, be informed and get educated.

But i said to myself that even in Britain where English language originated from, English is still being taught and students still fails, but on this forum Nairaland, nobody cares. You have to be very careful or don’t post at all.

I know a lot of people that speaks fluently but can’t write, because, written communication is more formal while spoken communication allows for more 'mistakes' also Less reflection goes into spoken English than written English

Which is more difficult, English speaking OR Writing?
From the highlighted, op, we can conclude dat written is more difficult than spoken English. grin
