1. Discourage single parenting: The number of single moms in Bayelsa state is alarming. Some of these girls give birth as early as 15 and are not matured enough to discipline themselves let alone discipline kids. These kids outlaw their mothers as they grow and end up rolling with other loosed kids on the streets thus an opening to cultism and other social evils. Children who grow up under the close, strict and moral upbringing of Daddy and Mommy are less likely to fall victims..

2. Poverty : The average Niger Delta kid wants to enjoy that posh europian lifestyle and would stop @ nothing to get it, unlike the north where the typical hausa native is contended with what is before him. A Place like Bayelsa would require massive industrialization to get the idle youths off the street.. no idle youth would mean nobody to be recruited into cultism, political thuggery, armed robbery, sea pirates and othed forms of social unrest..

Until society begins to look at the fundamentals, the so-called anti- cultism law is just a mere document and would only add more stress, more work to security personnels without meaningful achievements ..

This is something that we still see in Nigerdeltan Cities like Warri, Portharcourt etc. But the Current System still isn't just Working for Nigeria. Many Countries like the USA, Great Britain,Etc tried it and it works although they are still some ethnic Clashes they still manage to be one of the most successful Countries in the world. why can't we just try it. if u only look at the Bad side of every idea and you don't take risks then you can never ever be successful.

Well you're right buh dats one of the disadvantages but I know it does have its advantages although I can't state it now.

well I didn't know Igbos too had dat problem since I was thought y'all were all Homogeneous and all. and for the record I've already given up on it. I see it as an inevitable Change Languages come and go and I guess this time it's my tribes language's turn. and it's not my language it's my tribes language since its not my First language making it not my Native Language Pidgin is my Native language and I will only be ashamed if I do not pass it down to my Children cuz I owe dem dat . My parents owed me by not teaching me thier language.

Iam Ijaw from Yenagoa Bayelsa. Why you Ask?

Truth is why would I hate AAs I see dem as my brothers from the other side I understand them Iam from the Nigerdelta Iam 19 it's only recently I found out dat AA and Africans had beef. Iam from a place where my agemates including me don't speak our tribes language anymore we don't practice our tribes culture too. what we speak most Is Pidgin it's Like a native language there. the culture we practice is like a mix of all our tribes culture put together mostly From Yoruba then Igbo then European and AAs culture mixed with our Minority cultures this maybe what I call the Naija Urban Culture. What I know is people in the Nigerdelta don't actually criticize AAs dat much and maybe dats why Iam hearing of this now.
but really Mam I don't really understand somethings you put up there. I can understand AAVE when it's spoken not Written. and I think if I start to write My Pidgin here too you won't understand too it's quite different from the typical Naija Pidgin. it's not dat I think it's Uneducated speech I see it as a full fledged dialect of English buh I just don't understand it when Written.

His official title is Balogun Tapa of Lagos. His descendants dont even speak Tapa but they still bear names like Sanda, Umaru, Ndatsu and so on...proud of their heritage but mighty grateful for their legacy. Their ancestor was slave, and later a trader of King Eshinlokun of Lagos. 1700s! We are in 2000s! They have not abandoned their beginnings.

From an unbiased point-of view - I would say it's between Hausa and Yoruba...

Hausa is the most widely spoken language in Nigeria, and Yoruba culture/language is the most widely copied in Nigeria... Almost everyone everyone from Northern Nigeria speaks Hausa - and Yoruba culture/language has influenced the average Nigerian lifestyle, from dressing, to the use of the language in most Nigerian music and their adlibs in the way most Nigerians speak...

Well you're right in some point except the fact that you say it swallows up other cultures. what we see happening now is dat a new Nigerian culture free of ethnic bias is emerging mostly in the Urban centers of Nigeria and the entire Nigerdelta. every tribe gives it's own quota to this culture but Yoruba seems to be the main donor because of Lagos a predominantly Yoruba city which is now called a no man's land because of the large influx every culture in Nigeria. Making Lagos the the Centre of this new Culture.

well the truth is u should go see for yourself if Delta and Edo state is what they say it is. I'm from Yenagoa I know that in Yenagoa cultism is at a very high level every neighborhood has its own gang that controls it. though people that have gone to places like PH Warri Benin will say the violence there surpases ours. but mah friends from PH and Warri will still say ours is worse. so which one I wan believe again. buh anyway I've noticed it that the media always hype the violence of the Nigerdelta ×10²

Well you've said it the Yoruba are a formidable tribe I love them for their impact on modern Nigerian urban culture which actually was possible because of Lagos which was actually built by all Nigerians and partly the Creoles called Saro from Sierra Leone who settled in Lagos and most part of the nigerdelta which is where the Naija urban culture is being practiced the most along with other cities through out Nigeria. Where Naija pidgin is spoken as a native tongue. which again has a lot of Yoruba influence on it because of the Saro and again Lagos. and everyone knows pidgin is the language of the nigerdelta and contemporary Urban Nigerians.
But anyway I'm not Yoruba or Igbo I'm Ijaw from Yenagoa bayelsa although I have Both in my linage cuz of my Saro ancestry. The OP would have done a great not making this post sound so tribal although he did better than other post I've seen. buh I still what's the point of chest beating are we not all Nigerians everytribe got something to be prou of but I don't see most chest beating like the Yoruba and Igbo and days why I love the Hausa very humble people and the Nigerdeltans very accommodating of everything.Ps Igbos too have had a very significant effect on the Naija urban culture too with or without Lagos too ya knw.........���������

Yenagoa is getting there slowly but surely you also need to give recognition to cities and towns like Bonny island, Sapele, Ughelli Ikot Ekpene etc.

You forgot to mention its status as the headquarter of Pidgin. it has the sweetest versions of Naija Pidgin from Benin, Sapele , Warri to Yenagoa and Port Harcourt especially Wafi own. LOL.

Because of the camps isolation from the rest of Yenagoa. Their speak differently from the rest of yenagoa. they say tinz like Wus Kain news de na? for Hi instead of the standard Hafa or Afa (Howfar).

For the most part yes, but only in Cameroon camp. And the Cameroon camp pidgin is even becoming another Pidgin dialect on its own.

Dunno but they could be a link maybe. there are many ijaw people in Cameroon from Bayelsa so maybe there's a link. And for one there's a place named Cameroon camp in Yenagoa. a place to house the many displaced Nigerians who were affected by the bakassi crisis. They speak a lot of Camtok mixed with Naija pidgin there.

OK Yenagoa isn't DAT populated I can see the reason for DAT. As for PH don't go near the ikwere dominated areas you won't hear much pidgin there but in places like Borokiri. Marinebase etc. you'd love it. As for Lagos its just Ajegunle and that's just because many Nigerdeltans settled there. people from Edo Delta Bayelsa etc.

The pidgin in Lagos is Yoruba infused as for Ibadan, I am sure that is a mistake on your part cos they don't speak pidgin in Ibadan.
Yenagoa and PH yeah they can be on the list.
