Timbuktuo:

I agree, in practice, politics has been parallel with meritocracy but that is how democracy began in Greece and that is how it has been marketed to us. In all honesty, that's the only way it can produce anything resembling success. And this success is the improvement of the well-being of the common man. This is unlikely to be pursued by the average politician, they don't care about the common man.

Now, to your reference to northernisation, it does not exist. If it did northerners would be above average in all indices in this country. The only places they lead in are negative. Anyone who thinks life in their region will become a utopia because an indigene ascends the presidency is a jonser and is playing ostrich. Do/did the people of Ogun state feel powerful despite OBJ's eight years at the helm? Are the lives of Otuoke people any better than before eight years of Jonathan's VP/Presidency? The only people who gain are allies of these leaders.

The real struggle is economic class struggle, not quota or tribe. That's why trying to please everyone by false representation will never work. One politician comes and says "vote me because we're of the same religion",and another will come and say "I deserve your vote because we're from the same village", but they win and share the loot with colleagues of other tribes and religions. Look at the Dasuki case, every tribe is well-represented in the scandal. How much did Dasuki's village people get, etc.

When you compare OBJ to the current administration - that's more of apples and oranges comparisons. In as much as I wasn't that much into naij politics when OBJ was the leader (started following it 4 years ago when I joined NL, so as not to get bored on the forum) but based on the fact that most Yoruba folks love being more Nigerian than other Nigerian group - there's absolutely no way a Yoruba person would Yorubanise Nigeria. Coupled with the fact that OBJ isn't your quintessential Yoruba man based on his history and information I'm privy to, hence I personally don't see him as Yoruba. However, conversely, you don't really need to look too far to note that the current administration has a Northernisation agenda. I already gave you the three levels of power in a country and how the North dominates the three - with slam dunks in two. When you're in a multi-ethnic country, with 6 zones, with 3 in the North and 3 in the South - and the 3 in the North dominate the relevant positions lopsidedly, then there's an agenda. Especially, when the North is the least educated in the country.

Northerners being at the bottom of the totem pole of all indices isn't a fact here cos this is about the elites - not the average Northerners. And indices based on elites show that their elites are the most powerful in the country.

Nigeria's problem isn't primarily about class struggle albeit it does play a role in it. The nucleus of the problem is the ethnic struggle based on ethnic fault-lines - with the elites trying to outdo one another in the power-play. And when two elephants fight it is the grass that gets trampled on. Yes, there's a fundamental class problem...but the ethnic problem is far bigger than that. If there isn't no ethnic struggle for power, they won't have a problem restructuring the country along ethnic lines - with reduced power at the utter useless center, folks won't be clamouring for autonomy, and different regions won't be fighting to rule the country.

Adolf Hitler was an Austrian. Austrians are German by tribe just like the Swiss. It's no secret.
Even then, Germans would rather die than have anyone denigrate Hitler. He remains their hero forever.

How does that negate the fact that he was German and a lot of Germans don't claim him?

Ditto Clarence Thomas and the fact that he's a dark skinned black man of slave ancestry?

See, I don't see OBJ as a Yoruba man and if I were to write anything about Yorubas and their achievements/achievers - I'll never include his name. That's just me. And I believe I'm entitled to that, just as you're entitled to ya views.

I think they are inconsequential too, which is why I don't even comment on threads in which they come to self-service, I'm just here to educate my Yoruba brothers who might not have the right information.

Per the appointments, maybe I'm too idealistic, but I beleive in merit over quota. And truth is it would have been the same had a Yoruba or Igbo person ascended the presidency. People with work with those they have known coming up, and I think PMB's circle is more northern than diversified. So, it didn't really bother me.

And when you say Yoruba interests, I truly don't believe the current crop of politicians from the SW have such an agenda. Only Afenifere did and they couldn't compete because of monolithic, sectional thinking, same with the APGA party. Such things cannot really gain a foothold because the members of these tribes with the real power will stick with whatever federal, mainstream advantage they have because that guarantees prosperity for them and a long political career as well. Look at Peter Obi, igbos in general love him, but how has that translated to power for him? He's out of office and he's now just a great uncle who you see during the holidays. grin. So, in that regard a Yoruba agenda right now will only succeed if there is an Oduduwa country. OBJ didn't do jack for the Yoruba when he was in power, the SW governors bar Lagos are abysmal. My broda, charity begins at home. We should be kicking ass at home before we blame anyone for our misfortune.

Anyway, I'm still giving Bubu the benefit of the doubt, but if I were to have to choose between he and Tinubu, the latter gets my vote any day of the week.

Meritocracy and politics are two parallel lines and they never meet most times, except it involves survival. Even in advanced climes, they often never meet. Hence you see race/ideology is always an issue and a white leader in the west would rather appoint a less qualified person in lieu of a much more qualified minorities and a David Cameron would rather appoint a George Osbourne with no qualifications in finance to be his Chancellor. The outlier is when you someone with proven record to save you with a David Cameron appointing a Canadian in, Mark Carney, cos of his expertise, to save the UK's economy.

Now, back to Buhari, how many of the Northerners are actually that qualified for the portfolios they got? Are they the most qualified among all the ethnic groups in naij and diaspora Nigerians? So, where's the meritocracy? Nigeria is a tribal society with so many fault-lines and meritocracy is wishful thinking.

When it comes to power - diversity is based on how diversified the powerful positions are - not numbers. Albeit even if we're to use numbers, it is still lopsided in favour of the North. Now, let's break it down:

- The first layer of power in a country are the three arms of government: executive, legislative, and judiciary. Under Buhari - a slam dunk for Northerners.

- The second layer is defence. This is lopsided towards the North based on portfolios.

- The third layer includes: finance, aviation, most important resources, and ports. Since Buhari is the de-facto minister for petroleum and I'd say finance as well, cos the woman there is just a mere file carrying auditor. And I think the other two ministries are headed by Northerners. So, that's a slam dunk as well.

So, where is the meritocracy in a government that's clearly a Northern one - with the rest as mere appendage?

I don't even see OBJ as a Yoruba man and wasn't his father an Igbo man? The guy isn't Yoruba. And apart from being an insufferable cowardly snake and rogue - he looks too much like a gorilla to be a Yoruba man. As for the governors: they are all useless and utterly corrupt and I have been saying that since last year.

Anyway, interests aside, Buhari is an utter failure and he might end up being worse than GEJ, if he isn't right now. And he achieved it in 2 years compared to GEJ who took 4 years to get there.

Look, man, the nature of the demographic representation is such that the northerners have the aces, by virtue of sheer population alone. Factor in their penchant for religious groupthink and the advantage rises in their favour. So, SW basically negotiated from a position of weakness.

A better collaboration would be an all south coalition because of our ideological and socio-cultural differences with the north, but as you know, some people will play the victim till Jesus comes. Even on this thread, one Ipobians has said that igbos have had every office that Yoruba have had and as such Yoruba haven't done any better politically than igbos. Isn't that clear doublespeak from the tribe who's toothpaste is cries of marginalisation?

The igbos are the weak link in southern Nigeria. The southwest has shown that they are willing to be pragmatic and compromising as far it promises to benefit the common good. Can the SE say that? They are veey opportunistic and cannot delay gratification. The Jonathan that they clinched and pinned their hopes on, they had absolutely no input in his ascension to power. It was OBJ who elevated him, and that was ven a PDP arrangement. The PDP thatvwas regarded as a majorly old establishment/northern party. Don't forget in '99, SW votes went to Olu Falae.

It's a pity things are the way they are, but IMO, there's little that can be done when the south is at a war with itself. I would like Omoluabi to propose a what Tinubu coukd have done differently.

I understand the demographics/structure of Nigeria and naij politics. I know the country's structure favour the North. However, the North came into alliance with the SW from a position of weakness during the last election for three reasons:

1). They needed to win a region in the South to win the election - without acrimony. You can't win only the North and declare yourself the president. And there was no way he would've won any state in the other two Southern regions.

2). They needed a more robust party structure in the South and Tinubu's money/experience/influence cos they were going against a formidable candidate with enormous resources at his disposal.

3). It's difficult to win against an incumbent president.

Evidently, they needed Yorubas more than Yorubas needed them. And the party structure, faces to present a united Nigeria front, media campaign, and everything else were all Yoruba. So, what stopped Yoruba leaders/politicians from playing their cards right and getting a written agreement on how Yoruba interests would be protected, especially based on the history of these people? The battle was won but the real war started post-election - and Yorubas lost the war. And that's where the problem lies.

I saw it from early after the first two levels of appointments when it became an all North affair and total domination by North. And as a Yoruba guy, just like other Yorubas with higher minds are doing, why have Yorubas continued to be the most vocal voices and brazen foot soldiers of this failed government which is a Fulani government? Why are these few lost Yorubas dragging all Yorubas and Yoruba ancestors in the mud with them to protect an all North affair, that doesn't serve/protect Yoruba interests in any way/shape/form? Yoruba interests including: true federalism, special status for Lagos, and good governance. And this government isn't going to provide any of three. That's what I've a problem with and it is basically like someone committing crime with your name, when you aren't benefiting from the proceeds. That's unacceptable.

Anyway, the real war is about the soul of Nigeria and Igbos are just as inconsequential as they're a distraction. And why folks keep focusing on Igbos, while dragging everyone down with them is what I don't understand. Yes, banter here and there is good for comic relief from time to time. But when everything is about inconsequential Igbos - it becomes problematic. I guess that's why a lot of these folks are more contented with winning the battle and not the real war, which the Northerners won convincingly. And right now, they're more powerful than ever and they're in a position to dispose any of the Southern groups - in lieu of the other.

This is shameless identity/ethnic politicking. Was it Buhari who stole Abiloa's mandate? Did the Abiola himself not work against Awolowo? This is sophistry and revisionism at its peak.

If your point is we should not have sided with Buhari, pray tell, who do you think we should have sided with?

And you are tempted to laugh with the igbos, of course. Why wouldn't you be when you are all about tribal politics?

I think you misconstrued the guy's point. Everything mustn't be translated based on Igbos...once you start doing that, you'll ultimately lose focus of the bigger picture.

Yorubas did the right thing during the last election by forming alliance with the North to kick out sectional and failed regime of GEJ controlled by Igbos. We're not Igbo slaves and ought to always be way above Igbos. And in as much as GEJ's regime was a failed one - it was also about Igbo domination, which's unacceptable.

However, Yorubas failed when they couldn't form an alliance that's 50/50 with the North. I guess they got caught carried away due to innate owanbe-ism and being smart-dumb. And that became evident post-elections.

Obviously, when the Northerners played their cards after the election and it was obvious this regime is more of replacing one slave-master with a next one and it'ss more of Fulani domination and they'll eventually dispose Yorubas. They ought to have started acting then. But they left it too late, while doing most of the dirty media work for the Fulanis, with crumbs in return for it, like slaves. That right there is unacceptable.

Yoruba's we are too happy to play second fiddle . . .too happy to eat the crumbs. They by passed OGUNDIPE and put gowon. They denied AWOLOWO presidency twice. And jailed him. For our koro koro eyes they STOLE abiola's mandate, killed his wife and eventually killed him.But because we refuse to think we bow at them once again. We even sang the song of change more than bubu because of an irrelevant V.P slot. Now we are crying betrayal? I weep for us. These northerner are only for their own interest and will dispose of any tribe when they want. The east has been burned, the west burned, the south gives us oil but lives in penury. The north will forever have their way.

P.s tinubu has never and will never be a yoruba leader. Can ever lace awolowo's shoes.

Lol, you lied according NL sophisticated "Yoruba" geniuses.

Tinubu is greater than Awolowo to them and they argued it on a thread. grin grin grin

I don't think all these "Yorubas" on NL are real Yorubas, tbh.

Most of them are either Northern Yorubas or descendants of other tribes who were slaves in Yorubaland before slavery ended in Yorubaland and they became Yoruba after assimilation afterwards. These folks aren't Yorubas and I've got proofs.

Lol, this idiots and always making terrible decisions, while looking for someone to blame. It's a vicious cycle of irresponsibility now and you can't even blame the yanks for this.

You know the US will block any move to acquire any military hardware of that level, so why even go for the A-29 tucano in the first place, when you can easily buy the Russian Yak-130? The Yak-130 can do everything the A-29 tucano can and more. And it's a far better light attack jet and while the A-29 tucano looks the ancient turbo planes from world war 2 era - Yak-130 looks like your modern 4th gen. fighter jet. Despite the difference in prices is basically just $1 million (you can even get it for probably the same amount at a discount since they're planning to buy attck Helis as well).

These clowns never fail to disappoint. Even countries like Rwanda, Ethiopia, and Algeria with better bilateral cooperations with the US buy their military aircraft from Russia. Keep looking for someone to blame for being utter useless.

The grab her by the p***sy thing didn't really trouble my moral compass like the media tried to make it seem. And that's because I know how white guys talk about women when they alone.

Obama and the African-American community have had their time to be honest, that's the message the white conservative majority is sending. There will be no black president in the US for the next 50years AT LEAST.

Lol, at least you get it. Most black people love to focus on toxic black masculinity, while forgetting that toxic masculinity is a universal thing entrenched in patriarchy cos of the PC nature and window dressing of white liberal elites in the media. Elites make up less than 5% of the population. As a guy, since it was a leaked information - I just looked at it as normal guy chat lol.

Black president, you say? That's a bit of a stretch. There will be no talk of minorities anymore. The Democrats would've to change their plans and strategy to class based now and the target would've to be white working class a la middle America. LGBT communities would also have to take a back seat. It's going to be more about white nationalism, pandering more to white supremacy, and the conservatism of their religious values. The left would also have to move to the centre and closer to the right, similar to what New Labour did in the U.K during the Blair days before they crash landed and became the mess they're today, thus making them utter useless.

The mistake they made was to rig the primaries for Clinton against Bernie Sanders, hence they have started attacking Donna Brazile for the role she played and AAs for voting for Clinton, while majority of whites voted for Bernie. It was a populist election and Bernie Sanders would've won all the votes Clinton got and slashed a lot of Trump's, especially the white men who make up 1/3 of the voters. They should have dropped the LGBT agenda about transsexuals as well, like Bill Maher said. The election was about the survival of white men and their dominance - not minorities, LGBT, and women lol.

Anyway, it's a wake up call for AAs to focus on building their families and communities like Asians, especially their women who have become vessels for white supremacy like other black women everywhere. It's going to be a long 8 years (Trump is going to be a two term president like Reagan cos DNC don't have anyone ATM to replace him) for them.

Wow thanks for this.
I don't follow Diddy on Instagram, but I hope I didn't give you the impression that I didn't believe you?

I know that a lot of people were very careful not to publicize their support for Donald Trump because of the things he has said and how much of a loose cannon he can be. But the truth is a whole lot of people voted for him in the privacy of the ballot, even those who may have never supported him in public. I mean how else would he have won? LOL

Nah, never that. The likes of Mike Tyson, Dennis Rodman, and T.O don't care about what black people (especially black women) think about them cos they have always been outcasts. But Diddy has a brand, which is mostly consumed by black people, to protect. So, it would be suicidal for him to openly support Trump, especially with emotions running high.

How else would he have won, you say? Van Jones said it best when he said "white-lash" (I was laughing hysterically when he said it cos he so emotionally, tears were almost trickling down his cheeks. C'mon, it's a populist election and white men are making their last stand all over the west right now - to protect white supremacy and maintain control over all what they see as their countries. So, only naive people thought Clinton has a chance without rigging. It started with Brexit. US followed suit. Germany and France are next. White folks are just as tribal as African people - they just suppressed it after world war 2 cos tribalism cost them tens of millions of dead bodies and utter destruction. Hence they enacted structures and autonomy to avoid that. And Western civilisation was built on racism and white supremacy - and only these two can keep it alive, hence they always tell folks to go back to Africa or say folks are trying to destroy their civilisation.

Also, Obama never won the votes of majority of white men in both 2008 and 2012 - minorities, white millennials cos of white guilt and Dubya's failures, and white women cos he kept talking about his white mother - put him there. However, this election was about the fight for the soul of America and Trump appealed to them more cos he spoke like a raw typical white man, without the PC tripe. If you've white male friends, you'd know that "grab her by the pvssy" is what the average white guy would say casually, hence no white woman would find it offensive.

Anyway, white men wanted power cos liberals were doing too much and white women who happen to be majority of the voters gave the power back to their men in lieu of a fellow white who's a liberal and part of establishment that's taking power away from them to satisfy their elitist greed and wealth accumulation. White women are the smartest women out there. They understand power and they know that the status they enjoy was bestowed on them by white supremacy induced by white patriarchy. And they don't fight to win battles - they fight to win wars. Unlike other women who care more about winning battles and not wars. Hence they'll use other women to destroy their own men - while they protect theirs. Just check the percentage of white women that voted for Trump in the rust/battle states - about 70% in some states, including the educated ones who cry about faux-equality in the media.

Regardless, historically, black success anywhere in the west has always triggered white anger. And this was expected after Obama. Hence it's necessary for black folks to stop forcing themselves on white folks and focus on building their own communities like Asians do everywhere they find themselves - before they provoke a race war they'll fvck a lot of up. And liberals won't be there to save their arses when it kicks off cos black folks don't have the numbers to engage white people in a race war. Hopefully, this is the wake up call folks need to wake them up.

This idiot sounds like the typical white trash. Ditto all the other bitter naij folks who think folks should leave where they call home and join them in their misery.

Trump or no Trump - that is the way the average white person feels beneath whatever PC nonsense they show as a front. He just appealed to them to win the election as a businessman but it would be suicidal for him to govern that way. He is a businessman and he won't govern that way. Folks need to stop the hysteria and fear mingering and let the man rule.

This is no different from Brexit. And there were pockets of folks who did the same thing but it is back to business as usual. Real black men who deal with reality and understand white supremacy know what time it is. Only coons who got caught up liberal lies are scared loool.

Time for AAs to lead black diaspora again. A great time to be alive. Fvck Freeze or whatever the fvck the name of this albino is.

missjo:

LOL, yea I think I saw Bill Belichick on one site I checked...but Diddy is new to me, didn't see his name anywhere.

Well I did say the list isn't extensive, there are over 40 celebs I could have cited but I chose the ones which Nigerians can recognize the most.

Let me just say I followed Obama's election in 2008 closely (I was in Uni back then and that was the hottest topic amongst black students, especially in the library). And P.Diddy was the first rapper to jump on the Obama train - way before other rappers. He started the "vote or die" campaign and he expended a lot of resources in teaching most folks about voting, especially blacks and hispanics with felonies and their eligibility if they're neither on parole or probation cos a lot of them didn't know.

However, with this one: he called voting a scam and said the "vote or die" campaign is dead. When they asked him why, he said Obama spent 8 years in there without doing anything for black folks, while claiming he isn't the president of only black people - yet he was able to do stuffs gay people, Latinos, Asians, and women. And he said Clinton is going to be the same as Obama, if not worse. But when they asked him about Trump, he said he knows Trump personally and he's a good man.

You can also check the cryptic message he posted on his instagram after Trump won. Hence I said he's a passive supporter of Trump.

Someone tell this ignorant gay nyggah with coloured hair, corny accent, and funky multi-coloured clothes to shut up.

Just focus on rapping. Oh, I forgot he sucks at rapping as well, with that one-hit wonder. This nyggah is trash lool.

Hitler was defeated and her name is Hitler-y KKKlinton. Trump is just the face of white patriarchy and white supremacy which is what the west has always been. Ain't nothing changed - they just exposed the liberal lies that got the sheeple fooled. But it is still business as well. At least he won't go about fighting unnecessarily wars and bombing innocent people for some plutocrats and ultra capitalist greedy fvckers if he can maintain cordial relationship with other white patriarchy somewhere in the east, in a place called: Moscow.

So, you can't be mad at a man keeping it real about how the west really is and how the average white person thinks.
