The U.S cannot untangle from China! To do that will crush the American economy, and its citizens will struggle to produce the majority of the commodities that are produced in China. I am in the U.S., and most commodities, computers, and stuff here carry Made in China.

Moving on, it is the country that makes things for others that hold the key to global economic dominance, and that country is China, followed by (in the near future, India). It is a matter of time, but I sense that two global economies will be in Asia.

If America was destined to make these chips, they'd have done so long ago. I feel they are making a mistake.

Most of these chips are in the commodity section. They are best suited for Taiwan which has honed the skill of producing. Chip prices are very volatile as there are times of gluts and bountiful profits. American manufacturers aren't fund of dealing with products that have become commodities. Chips manufacturing is definitely one of them.

American companies have for long conceded the manufacturng of computers to Asia as the profits are razor thin. Chip making also tends to come with razor thin profits as well

China's entrance in chip manufacturing WA made able by huge support from the Chinese government. I doubt China has the wherewithal to upgrade chips.

Americas do best with specialized chips such as those from Intel and Qualcomm and come with fat juicy margins.

American companies design the chips but the foundries are mainly in Asia. That arrangement was great until China became a big player in semiconductor manufacturing.
The problem is China wants to control that industry from fabless to pure-play, just like what they did to mobile phone industry.
Semi conductor and aviation are the last American meaningful export, take it away and manufacturing is officially dead in America.
Coupled with the fact that China may invade Taiwan and take over their semi conductor industry as well as the technology.
It's only rational for America to find alternatives.

Unfortunately the international market where Nigerian govt has no influence will not be merciful. They will adjust their exchange rate to adjust the reality on ground. Naira will have a free collapse against other global currency. With importers not having enough to Forex to keep business going, the country will enter stagnancy and stagflation.

The govt can go round this by insisting on self sufficiency policy, import restriction, and promoting import substitution.
However, no man is island. There are very few products Nigeria can build from scratch, we cant produce phone or cars without importing products, we also need lots of industrial components and chemicals to keep the factory running. In ability to get this done will lead to economy contraction leading to recession as in IBB era of IMF led SAP. It was a terrible time for Nigerians, middle class was wiped out. Nigerians will now be left with lots of naira that can buy mothing.
Even if Nigerians works very hard and are able to break through the import restriction by becoming self sufficiency, govt will now be forced to withdraw excess naira from circulation to reflect the reality on ground. This is to ensure lazy loafers are not unreasonably rewarded when they ve contributed nothing to the economy
As u can see it's a meaningless cycle that gets nobody anywhere.
