I thought he stormed out and insulted the parents? Anarchists will continue to be embarrassed, I just don't understand why any sane patriot of any country would purposely hope for and get excited over the prospect of their president failing, I just don't get it. Bigotry is a powerful thing.

I guess scaremongers and anarchists have to go find another story or lie to tell. The fight against corruption is one that Nigeria MUST pursue with unbending zeal. You robbed a people of their commonwealth and by so doing squandered their collective opportunities for progress and development, and are complaining that you are being investigated too zealously? The very audacity!

People who don't want to listen won't listen. It's not an Igbo thing, it cuts accross the country, the uneasy marriage between tribalism and politics that only breeds myopic reasoning. In the Niger Delta it was "my brother my brother our oil our oil" that made intelligent people throw common sense to the dogs and insist on a failed president continuing for another tenure. He lost, the skies did not fall, life goes on. And the more APC takes these post election party jumpers of questionable characters on board their boat the more damage they do to their credibility.

(a) there is presented to the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission a petition in that behalf signed by more than one-half of the persons registered to vote in that member's constituency alleging their loss of confidence in that member; and

(b) the petition is thereafter, in a referendum conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission within ninety days of the date of receipt of the petition, approved by a simple majority of the votes of the persons registered to vote in that member's constituency.

Politics / Re: Rebranding PDP, Waste Of Time – Gulak by SkyBlue1: 6:47am On Nov 21, 2015
We need to move away from this mentality that PDP is something to be saved for the sake of our democracy. PDP might need Nigeria but Nigeria definitely does NOT need PDP - the old one or a rebranded one in whatever shape or form. Nigeria needs development and serious parties with a vision and purpose and sincerity to deliver this efficiently while tackling vices like corruption et al.

The fact that PDP still does NOT understand why it lost the last election says a lot. The fact that PDP and its cohorts think repainting the party new colours and new logo and new theme tune called rebranding is the solution to the party's woes says a lot. PDP is NOT the only opposition party in Nigeria, and considering what they have done to Nigeria, I would hope Nigerians are sensible enough to relegate an unrepentant and failed party like PDP even further in the next election cycle, and give a different opposition party more prominence.

For PDP to even stage an attempt at saving itself from the dustbins of history, they must first sincerely apologise to Nigerians for the attrocious leadership the country suffered under their hands, then they must also apologise for that insult of an apology earlier staged. Anything less than this, and I am convinced that only unrepentant bigots and touts would be willing to vote for the party of corruption and impunity and darkness. 16 years and we are still talking 4000mega watts, the insult.

ThePENGENIUS:
I deeply empathize with the nation of France, more especially the people of París, on the "unfortunate" brutal inhumane attacks. But something else still irks me: WHY ALL THE HYPOCRITICAL ATTENTION
Every day thousands of people, refugees die in Syria, Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan and even Nigeria. People get their heads brutally hacked off, suicide bombings and terrorist attacks ravage innocent lives. PRECIOUS LIVES ARE LOST! Yet the international community and pretty much every major organization that stands for world peace and order, UN, EU, NATO etc, all turn a blind eye. No one bats an eyelid. But here we are today, France is struck by what we have termed "Day of Terror" and everyone is losing their heads. What about Nigeria that has experienced (and still continues to experience) DAYS of terror. Do certain lives matter more than others?? Are some lives more expendable than others?? Are certain regions designed for terror??
Don't get me wrong, I certainly feel sorry for the lost French lives, but so do I feel for the lost Arabs, Syrian, Afghanistan and Nigerian lives lost in terror. What a world! I rest my case...

*****Update ****
Facebook just officially made matters worse. Offer to provide me a "temporary France commiseration profile picture?" This is utterly despicable! *spits*

Your sentiment is blinding you from the apparent. It's a big deal because they are not used to it (it's actually news), Europe is seen as generally safe and in comparison it is. Think of the first time Boko Haram detonated a bomb in Nigeria and we were all shocked because we never thought such a thing could happen in Nigeria because we assumed Nigerians "love life too much". Well . . . nowadays it happens every now and again and it really isn't news anymore. That is it, no need to write unecessary speeches, and plus Europe and the West in general have a developed media industry and can give their stories global reach.
Politics / Re: Merging Ministry Of Power With Works And Housing, A Good Idea? by SkyBlue1: 10:39pm On Nov 11, 2015
I have similar concerns: Power and Works are huge and critical in their own right as independent entities in the Nigerian context. Let us see what happens anyway, I have never been this excited about a ministerial cabinet. There is no lack of talent and they have a good overall head who is no nonsense and would hold them to account. Let us see what Fashola does with it first. I am worried it might be too big for him but at the same time he has a whole ministry of bureaucrats who should really start earning their pay.

I have no interest in tokenist appointments to please any section of the population. We need proven performers who can develop the country for EVERYONE including the youth. Where did all of Jonathan's token appointments get him? The first criteria for appointment should be performace and track record. If it turns out to be a youth that best fits the bill then so be it, if not then so be it. Nigeria is too messed up and poor to be doing tokenist appointment, there is too much work to do.

You are yet to answer any of my questions, instead you began to insult yourself.

Has Buhari kept any of his promises or should we expect him to do so in 2019?

Not lying against Jonathan, only stating the facts. There should be honest and critical discussions had about government policy yes. But you did not open this thread to discuss policy, you opened this thread to spew propaganda and throw a tantrum, and that is quite apparent. Policy does not exist in a vaccum and is grounded in reality. The fact that Buhari took over a failing and badly mismanaged country and economy is simply a part of that reality that policy has to be evaluated against. What I am against is a rewriting of that reality that was only 5 months ago and which we can all remember and was very well documented. It is uneccesary and silly.

Now when you are ready to grow up and have a mature discussion about policies and what direction this government is taking, let me know. Till then I leave you to fester in you ignorance.

What about your unemployed relatives? How much is fuel in your axis now? Have you seen any public primary school pupil who has been fed free meal? Don't deviate!
Tell me why Buhari can't keep even one of his promises.

Sorry but now you just sound daft. You were willing to give PDP 16 years and Jonathan 5 years to achieve his phantom dreams he was never working towards, and you are now shouting "Buhari can't even keep on of his promises" after 5 months in power? How can anyone take you seriously with such obviously biased and childish reasoning? APC is a political party, Buhari is not the head of APC and at the end of the day the party fields candidates. And no I don't think all these candidates are saints, one example being Sylva, so please don't try and read my mind because you are terrible at it, I am not partisan I am pro good governance.

To address your other points, when did the Naira start losing it's value? Do you think an economy that has been dogged by government corruption and poor infrastructure can be turned around in 5 months? Stop being peurile, at least try pretending to be objective. At the end of the day this was a choice between continued failed leadership of Jonathan and a change. I can't believe any right thinking individual not blinded by bigotry and myopia would advocate we should have continued down a path that was already destroying the country. Just shocking and shameful. It's not even about political philosophy, it was about if you aggreed with a laissez-faire attitude to government corruption and bad leadership and impunity, or not.

One more thing. The fact that most people being pursued by EFCC for large financial crimes are PDP members makes perfect sense because PDP was in control of the nation's purse for 16 years, not APC. So no, not everything is about partisanship.

P.S - Jonathan left Nigeria $63 billion in debt, enduring fuel scarciities, and with government borrowing money to pay salaries. Not everyone has amnesia like you lot. It wasn't rosy and it would take time to fix.

Why is the former EFCC Chairman not being probed?

Who wants to share the trillions with him?

Why did Buhari deny his promises?

Why is Buhari now doing the things he condemned GEJ for eg seeking aids from other African countries against Boko Haram.

Why did Buhari appoint corrupt peiple in his cabinet?

Who is deceiving who?

By the way have you or any of yours received the N5k promise for the unemployed youth?

Not unemployed so wouldn't know. Don't ask me how much Jonathan left in the treasury, tell us how much was there before he went in (accross all the main accounts), how much he left, and how much Nigeria got from oil sales in the 5 years he was in power. Nigerian economy was doing relatively well under the last regime, though GEJ was not fond of blowing his own trumpet and his media personnel weren't showcasing most of his good works to the nation/the world.

All of a sudden some political parties decided to merge together, thus the birth of APC, and began to chant the "change" mantra, promising Nigerians everything 'promisable' :

1. $1 equivalent to N1.

2. Free lunch for all public primary school pupils.

3. N5,000 monthly allowance to all unemployed youths.

4. Stoppage of Boko Haram Menace within 3 months.

5. Belonging to everybody and belonging to nobody.

6. Constant power supply.

7. Corruption fight.

8. Reduction of fuel price from N87 to N45.

Etc.

Now that Buhari's APC has been voted in, he denied making any of the promises except NO. 5 which he made after the election.

NONE of the promises has been met.

Promise NO. 6 was partially met initially but quickly abandoned half way.

The Nigerian economy has dwindled so much.

Importers/manufacturers/industrialists are being witch-hunted daily at the airports and branded criminals for travelling with money for their businesses.
Investors are shying away from Nigeria.

Workers salaries are not paid.

Dollar keeps gaining rapid value against Naira.

Fuel price keeps increasing albeit unofficially.

There is so much poverty in the land.

We waited for 6 months for Ministerial nomination only for the nominees' list to turn out to be a huge disappointment : a bunch of recycled/old corrupt politicians. Even corrupt Amechi, Fashola, Audu Ogbeh, Lai Mohammed etc made the list.

The Judiciary/DSS have been bought over by the Federal Government. All APC tribunal cases are successful while those of their political counterparts are not.

The fight for corruption is only against non APC members especially PDP members.

Tinubu keeps manipulating the judiciary/National Assembly/President.

Nigerians can you see what you have done to yourselves?

Truly speaking, if it ain't broken DON'T FIX IT.

God bless Nigeria.

Let me assume you are actually genuinely open to discuss this issue and you're not a paid hack.Your post is based on a very narrow minded premise. The Nigerian economy was broken before Jonathan left office and would have had no hope if he won again because there would have been no hope of reform needed to fix what the PDP government of the past 16 tears including him, broke.

Jonathan came into power with money in the treasury and relative peace in comparison to what we have today. For most of the time he was in power oil was selling at record levels, yet by the time he left, Nigeria was borrowing money to pay salaries. How on earth do you call that a working government and economy? What did Jonathan actually do for the economy except refuse to reform or tackle corruption? Please don't let us go there with your ignorance, this thing is recent history, it did not happen 50 years ago. Come back in another 30 years and maybe people will buy into this propaganda.

Lastly, no offence but "if it ain't broke don't fix it" is a dumb philosophy that shows absolutely no forward looking. It is a mentality that prevents forward future thinking needed for sustained growth, and is foolishly reactive.

So please, sing another song, he is the worst president Nigeria has had since the return to democracy and it would take a while to clean up his mess.
