It is too late. Only fools would be moved even if Jonathan implements all those things listed. He has had five years to tackle corruption and it is now in the eleventh hour he wants to make a go at "tackling" it? Is this not a guy who just last week was in Bayelsa campaigning and hailing Alams the convicted ex governor he pardoned as his "boss"? "He is my boss and he will forever remain my boss", his words you can search for the video. And that is a man that can tackle corruption? Abeg preach something else. Jonathan IS corruption, and hopefully Nigerian's are a bit wiser, HOPEFULLY |
So it is official, election postponed . . . |
nationwide1:I am sure Buhari's supporters would be happy to furnish you with his achievements, I am not the one to do that. I don't see the ideal candidate and panacea to all of Nigeria's problems in a Buhari candidacy, that is not what this is about for me. We have complained since 1999 and watched in undulations of hope and despair as successive PDP governments have bastadised and wasted the resources of this country consecutively and one after another. We have shouted corruption corruption corruption, and yet we keep on voting in the very party under whose stewardship all this has happened, why ![]() ![]() Nigerians don't seem to understand a simple concept. Someone has failed you, voting him in again is another way of saying you are happy with the path taken please continue. In last election people said PDP is bad but Jonathan is different. Under his administration we have seen THE MOST WASTEFUL government we have ever recorded in our history. Buhari did not preside over oil selling at $100 and above, neither did he preside over the level of corruption scandals we have been assaulted with in the last 5 years and to a larger extent 15 years of PDP. Say what you will about Buhari but his anticorruption stance remains something of an attraction in the face of the audacious and crude impunity Nigerians have been insulted with in the past few years, and this was with a military government that didn't even have the checks and balances our democracy is meant to offer. This to me is not a referendum on Buhari, it is a referendum on PDP and Jonathan, and no they are not different but one and the same and they have failed and have to go. Go and watch Jonathan's speech in Yenegoa Bayela, where he was addressing Alams, a convicted ex governor of the state who he pardoned, as his boss and saying Alams would always be his boss. That is the person meant to be fighting corruption for us. |
appini:Read the same article and all I could see was a man lamenting that a whole "giant of africa" with an internationally recognised military could not deal with boko haram itself and had to be rescued by the likes of Chad and Niger and Cameroun. But I am not surprised you read the article and came to the conclusion YOU did, some people are just predisposed to bias and irrationality. |
KEVIND:And now he is "strong" because he is using the equipment of the state to bear down on his opponents? Why hasn't he been able to apply this same vigour and "strength" to sorting out boko haram and corruption and rescuing the missing girls? What a bunch of jokers you lot are, keep celebrating tyranny misconstrued as "strength". When two elephants fight it is the grass that suffers. But there really is no hope for the grass when the grass refuses to realise that it is indeed the grass. |
ola6: Vicotex:If you live in Nigeria, when last did your neighbourhood go up to a week with uninterrupted power? Keep thinking this is about Jonathan and Buhari, keep passionately defending a failing government in the misguided belief that you are "winning" some useless race to the bottom. Because this is what this is, a race to the bottom. Goodluck to you people who have to put up with a situation you have chosen to defend with all your heart and soul but still have the audacity to complain about. Twenty years from now you will still be complaining about no light and corruption and unemployment, but you will still be too stubborn to see the connection while shouting "Jonathan till 2050". What a hopeless lot |
KEVIND:I don't claim Jonathan to be clueless because that would absolve him of complicity. He is corrupt and incompetent, not clueless. He knows what he is doing, and he is fast writing his name in the history of Nigeria as being the biggest disappointment the country have ever been unfortunate enough to stumble upon. That is simply what it is. And he came in with so much good will from the people. . . . |
So the state has effectively blackmailed INEC using the army, to force a postponement of the elections? Well done Jonathan, you are turning into the dictator you have accused your opponent of being. Who remembers Aaondoaka, or Turai who it seemed once upon a time had the whole country in their hands? Where are they today? Our leaders fail to learn from history. |
5 years later and after presiding over the largest oil prces on record, Nigeria has no savings and the achievement being celebrated is ONE VILLAGE enjoying light for one year. All hail Jonathan indeed. I feel nothing but pity for you people, you have been so mentally abused by bad governance and sectionalism that you don't even know what good governance is |
This man really doesn't have a brain. So if Jonathan does succeed in tackling boko haram does it mean he is the commander of boko haram? Or has he just unknowingly admitted that Jonathan CANNOT tackle boko haram?? |
TrishaP:Correction. The fear of election is the beginning of wisdom for people who don't have good records to stand on, people whose works you don't feel but "hear" about. |
@OP What progress has been made in the health and educational sector under Jonathan's presidency? No sweet sounding words and long pointless stories, just hard data please. Save these sob stories and empty sentiments for people who can't see the bigger picture. Jonathan has failed and only excuse makers, bigots and ostriches who like to bury their heads in the sands would refuse to admit it! |
Is APC at the helm of affairs? Lack of shame and self respect is fast becoming an issue in that country. The man who is the commander in chief cannot handle boko haram or corruption and you are leaving him to go and blame a party that has never held the presidency since its existence. |
mrborntodoit:In what world are you living in? How much money has Nigeria made from oil sales in Jonathan's tenure compared to other administrations combined? How many scandals? And yet we are speaking of the country being bankrupt and in debt because we saved nothing during the record and unprecedented oil prices? I will not even bother elaborating on this, it really is pointless. If you choose to live in denial carry on. As I said, Nigerians love suffering and would protect their right to that priviledge with all their might. Don't bother with a reply, can't be bothered. |
mrborntodoit:And you extol that as some sort of virtue? A lot of Nigerians hate good governance and are addicted to suffering, I am slowly coming to that realisation. They will vote to continue suffering with such dogma and would later on enjoy complaining about how things are bad with such airs of useless "foresight", but without any real wisdom to see the irony or the connection of the two as mere results of actions and consequences. Comments like these make me think that perhaps there is no hope for Nigeria. 'He has not done anything to better our lives BUT he must be president'. How very wise indeed . . . . . |
Shove this nonsense somewhere else, if there is a cabal Jonathan IS very much part of it, a cabal of looters and paragons of corruption. All this nonsense might have worked four years ago but you need to sell us something else called achievements. He was given mandate, tell us what he did with the money Nigeria made in the last 5 years (which was much more than the country made in decades). He has been in power for over four years, he can't feed us the "I am an outsider" crap anymore. What utter nonsense! "There is a cabal" he hasn't been able to fight in 5 years but it is conveniently after next election that he would fight them?? What an impotent government |
eaglechild: SailorXY:First of all we don't have enough information and all we are dealing in now is speculation, I mean, this man has run for the presidency like four times already and this wasn't an issue? If this is just some cheap politicking by the incumbency to stir up trouble and attempt disenfranchisement of voters then it is a dangerous game, that is all I am saying. It is one thing to accuse someone of forgery which should be treated seriously, but if it is as some people are saying and this is about not "filling forms correctly", then I say if Nigeria is a country where the people cannot kick out a profusely corrupt, inept, incompetent and globally condemned leader through the ballot because the opposition was disqualified for not "filling forms correctly", then we are indeed doomed as a nation. I stand by that. Let us see what happens and if Buhari has questions to answer then he has questions to answer. I just find it extremely telling that the PDP's main approach to winning this election is not by standing on achievements but running unopposed. It is just so pathetic and even sadder that Nigerians cannot see through it. How low would we go as a nation before people decide to open their eyes and see failure as failure? Some people have no standards for themselves. |
EdoPrince:There is the law and there is the intent of the law. Nothing is proven and this is not even an issue yet, all I am saying is any attempt to disenfranchise voters in this election will be a very dangerous game to play. And no, it is not a northern an southern thing, people from ALL parts of the country are angry with this administration. Don't disenfranchise angry people. If people don't want you any more then they don't want you anymore, test your mandate at the polls and stop trying to do everything to avoid that. Nigeria made more money in the past five years than it did in decades, and what do we have to show for it? |
In saner climes people and parties go to the polls to test their popularity and seek a fresh mandate. In this case the fear of polls seems to be the beginning of wisdom. I guess Jonathan is beginning to realise how unpopular he is, the question is if he would be comfortable using the backdoor to disenfranchise voters from making their choice, and be comfortable with continuing with that sort of "mandate". This people need to be very careful, they are playing a dangerous game here. He keeps on saying things he would do when voted back into power, forgetting that he is in power RIGHT NOW, and is failing at the task. |
This man keeps forgetting that Nigerians have lived with him as president for over four years. Since when did his words and promises and oaths start meaning anything? Let me guess, forget that they haven't meant anything over that past four years, they would magically start meaning something if he gets reelected. |
Jonathan blaming everybody else but himself, what's new? |
Asari Dokubo there is no light, federal roads are bad, corruption is the order of the day (and yes, stretching into the very heart of the presidency), convicted criminals who stole from the people you claim to care for are given presidential pardons and positions of relevance, boko haram is ravaging the north, and everybody should ignore all of this and still be forced to vote for Jonathan because of what? Even MEND have declared support for anything except Jonathan. Is this not a presidency that was voted in with so much goodwill those years ago? Did people have to be threatened to vote for him? I think it is quite telling that supporters of continuity with the current administration rarely defend it based on achievements and are always quick to threathen violence. It is even more telling that Asari glorifies the biggest thief Rivers State has EVER known in Peter Odilli at the expense of the current governor who has built hundreds of schools and health centers in all parts of the states and at standards that everyone can attest are among the best in the country. The simple truth is Asari Dokubo does not speak for anybody but himself and his belly; neither does he care for anyone but himself and his belly. The only shame is that Nigeria is a country where people like Asari Dokubo are given a voice, instead of being ignored and allowed to fade into obscurity like they rightly should. Nigerians don't know it yet but voting in this administration for a second term will sink this country into depression. I mean, are people really that happy with the way the country is being run? If you are not then what on earth makes you think Goodluck would magically change overnight and become the president you want him to be if voted in again? If you are really happy with the way things are going then feel free to vote for continuity but please quietly live with the consequences and don't complain a few months later about unemployment and power and the rest. Jonathan has been promising 24hour light since he was the Vice President to Yaradua, if I could be bothered I would find the newspaper articles and tender as evidence. |
Syenite: My dear the Yorubas called for it. They are fond of picking on d igbos. This Aba today Aba tomorrow rubish has to stop. Let me give them a taste of their own pills. You are not doing ANYTHING new with this. There have been threads where someone tried to raise issue with regards to roads or something of the sort in a South western state, and before long, people were posting pictures of Aba and other places in the south east, as if that had anything to do with it. This back and forth bickering is sickening and hinders us from targetting leaders, no wonder they get away with murder. I mean, is this all Nigeria has to offer, online Igbo Yoruba fights?? No hour is complete on this forum without some thread degenerating into on of these petty and ridiculously childish skirmishes. And what is most disappointing, is that the most vocal of the bunch actually live abroad (some have never even been to Nigeria). I really can't understand it, it really is confounding. Some people will call it "tribalism" to make themselves feel better since in their own head it is not as bad as racism. |
How did Aba turn to Ibadan? The bickering between the WA and the BIA of this WAZOBIA crap has passed the point of genuinely being nauseating, I have never seen such childishness in all my life. And to think many of these nairaland posters have families is even more worrying, how on earth are those kids going to come out normal?! Seun please consider making a WABIA section of this forum where all such threads can be moved and let the rest of us know peace - this is not all there is to Nigeria! Alternatively, any one know of any good Nigerian forums where intelligent exchanges are possible should let me know - seriously. Need to take some months off this madness, what a racist bunch. |
ogasir2011: The Governor of Taraba State, Dambaba Suntai has died in an aircrash at the Yola airport in Adamawa state. The governor died in a small plane piloted by him. His remains remains at the crash site as at the time of breaking this news.Hmm |
Serves the man right for not using his magic wand to generate electricity for the national grid from thin air, like PHCN workers obviously do. |
pro01: A self-important, narcissistic, and attention-seeking billionaire is always going to be a big problem that has no real solution. Great wealth in itself often confers prominence and attracts unnecessary attention to it's owner, no matter how reticent. How then do you deal with a publicity-loving billionaire who actively, creatively, and routinely shops for attention - with a bottomless pit of money in his purse? He is always going to be in your face, and there is pretty much nothing you can do about it. That is the nature of the Donald Trump problem."Shops for attention"? Is that some sort of euphemism? Donald Trump is a media w.hore, no two ways about it. He might actually die if everybody chose to ignore him. He lives in his own world of self importance where even God comes to his office to consult decisions before hand. He is just something else, it would have been funny if it wasn't so utterlly irritating, and the fact that people choose to give him attention. |
Some people ascribe too much importance to themselves, there is narcissism and there is Donald Trump. I REALLY am not trying to take a dig at this man (REALLY), but he might have a psychological problem. I am too tired to go into his antecedents but COME ON. The reason he and people of his type shouldn't even be indulged is simply because NOTHING Obama does will ever be enough to convince them, nothing. They believe what they believe and that is it, move on. Gosh if you watched this man speaking throughout the republican primaries you would have thought EVERYBODY goes to him for advice before they decide to contest because he is so important. |
Honestly speaking, Maiduguri he was flying from practises sharia. If they decide to do public flogging I wouldn't mind watching him flogged properly, I mean can you imagine? I am just putting myself in the shoes of the people on that plane and I am quite outraged to be frank! What did innocent passengers do to boko haram? NASS should summon the executive and demand updates to this so called 'war on terror' because honestly speaking the idea that we have even started considering bombing internal flights is very worrying. What has happened with all the people that have or were meant to have been arrested? Does governors and so called senators that were reported to be entangled in the whole brouhaha. . . |
Abeg any other source? This is not funny. Did the passengers at least touch him up a little? Because if that was me in that plane I don't know if I wouldn't have joined in. Can you imagine? This is a very dangerous precedence o |
Belovedd: The point is, will this debate change the mind of decided voters? I say No!That is the thing people are failing to see. Obama was going to get the votes he was going to get anyway. That first debate DID NOT help Obama AT ALL, it was a mistake. Romney was unmanageable before the first debate, after the first debate he became manageable by his base and that changed the dynamics of the race that saw Obama losing a strong lead over Romney. It is all down to Independents, and no folks, they are not all black. Anyway, a lot could change in two weeks. But just going by this debate, if there was to be an election tomorrow Obama might win but not by the margin many people assume. |
