Silly move. The best manufactured car can become road worthy if it is not well maintained. Introduce a system of road worthiness tests and create penalty for those who don't maintain their vehicles (just like MOT), that is more long sighted and sensible than this myopic approach. |
That is their business, as long as elections are not postponed and card readers are used at the polls. I have never seen a government so scared of elections, it reminds one of the days of IBB and his maradona antics, and that is not a good administration to be compared to for someone who claims to be a democrat. |
There is Buhari and then there is Osibanjo. The real question is can Nigeria afford to make the same mistake of voting in an already established wasteful and corrupt government to continue the decay of the country? Can Nigeria afford to vote in a party that held the nation to ransom when a dead president's wife colluded with the AG in preventing the handover of power to the then VP? I see worse than Turai in Patience and I see Jonathan in Sambo, that is the real sense of deja vu you poorly try to invoke. |
Orunto:I seriously pity Nigeria. There are no words . . . . For my sanity I have to believe you are paid to do this if not there might be no hope afterall |
Nothing new, absolutely nothing new. I will expect things to carry on as they are and postpone hope for any sort of change till 2019. I will expect continued erratic power supply in Nigeria, continued insecurity, continued wanton corruption with no consequences for the offenders, continued impunity and abuse of power by the presidency and his wife, continued high rate of unemployment for the youth, and of course continued promises followed by endless excuses why those promises could not be delivered. And anybody that expects different needs to get their heads examined, we are not talking about a new candidate here, this man has been running the country for the past five years and was vice president, governor and deputy governor prior to that; Bayelsa is still a dump and Nigeria is not much different under him. |
The only reason why people like Bode George don't fade into obscurity in shame and even have audacity to quote Bible is because they live in Nigeria, Jonathan's Nigeria, where corrupt ex-convicts are pardoned and given leadership positions. |
You people are funny. It is perfectly logical to admit the good thing a government has done and still not like the government as a whole when weighed against the bad it contributes, it is called being objective and mature, and Nigerians just simply need to grow up and be able to this more. Only disenginious people will say Jonathan has done absolutely nothing, I don't think people who have an issue with him are claiming that. People still have issues with Obasanjo even despite the fact that it was under his administration that GSM really took off and other industries as well. At the end of the day there are some things one should consider in this analysis; companies are not appendages of government, Jonathan did not build that Nissan plant so I don't know why the fervent shouting. It is good that Nissan felt the country was one they could do business in and you are free to attribute it to the presidency; but things like power and security which the presidency has DIRECT effect over would hamper the growth and potential of not just this venture but ALL private sector ventures and hence growth and employment in general. What has Jonathan done about that? He has been promising 24hr light since he was a vice president (no exhaggeration), and the country still doesn't have that. Nigeria has seen the biggest corruption scandals (more and counting) under his administration and there is NO will from the presidency to address this, in fact his presidency is even part of it. His government has had more money at it's disposal in five years than Obasanjo and Yaradua government combined and even more, so what are we really saying here? Put things in perspetive. Does the output you see justify the resources that were available? I don't expect people on this thread to process this, all I say is let elections be free and fair so that people who want to can have a chance at kicking out this wasteful and corupt government. |
Shameless government. This is a man that started promising Nigerians 24 hour power since he was vice president. He commissions a power plant and suddenly he has fulfilled his promise? How many power plants did Obasanjo commission? And after all that commissioning what percentage of the country currently enjoys 24 hours power? Honestly can't wait for Nigerians to be given the opportunity to kick this man and his useless party out of power. |
If power stability in Nigeria was based on commissioning of power plants the country would have had 24hr power by now. How many did OBJ commission? How many did this same Jonathan commission? What percentage of the country can boast of having 24/7 power? |
fitzmayowa:Because this is not how most politicans in Nigeria behave so spare us your fake bewilderment. British PM also goes out jogging and rides a bicycle to parliament sometimes and flies BA, what on earth has that got to do with Nigeria and it's history of bad democratic leadership? How many presidential jets does your president have? Keep asking the obvious |
And which ones are they keeping alive to use to gather information and intel? |
Long story things and yet Nigerians don't have light, face insecurity around the country, poverty, high unemployment, massive corruption in the presidency, and all someone can give is another victim's pontification that seeks to vehemently support the very person who is charged with fixing this and isn't. Nigerians enjoy suffering. Politics of division, Jonathan's staple diet. |
This man and other prominent criminals should be watched closely after elections. So if Jonathan legitimately loses election then what is going to happen? And these are the sort of poeople Jonathan rubs shoulders with. This has been the key problem with Yaradua and Jonathan's government, not fixing the fundamental problems that originally drove people to militancy but supporting criminals instead. Even if true federalism is implemented tomorrow people like Asari and some other of them will still exist because they have gotten used to the federal goverment givig them free money for nothing, they are simply criminals that have gotten used to a comfortable life at the federal goverment's expenses and that is all they are. |
Give it enough time and some goon would come here and shout Jonathan till 2019. Nigerians should keep in mind that Jonathan has been promising 24/7 light since he was vice president, I remember it so well. And here we are today . . . |
Idolys:It is mainly benefactors of the current corrupt system, bigots and ostriches who like to bury their ead in the sands that would still canvass for support of this administration for another four years. Even the process of arming the troops being sent to the front line to fight Boko Haram was mired in corruption, with soldiers being sent to the front ill equipped because money meant for weapons was been diverted. Who has paid for that? And yet the joke of a president is going to shout "America is our friend". How many of the litany of corruption scandals in this administration have resulted in proper investigation and punishment for the benefactors of the crime? A completely FAILED and INCOMPETENT government. |
He couldn't ensure that their fathers were properly armed with the right equipment or tackle the corruption that sent so many of the soldiers to the front under equipped, but we are expected to go gaga over pictures of him holding some photo opportunity token valentine shindig and marvel at the depths of his generousity. Some people have no brain but will keep shouting Jonathan till 2019. Absolutely no shame or sense of morality at all. The very idea of enduring another four years of this presidency is utterly depressing. |
Arysexy:LOL, you people are funny. When last did you see one week of constant light with no generator in Nigeria? Or are you one of those special people who live in Bayelsa? |
macof:It is easy to see you support the presidency you both share similar traits. Everybody is to blame for the ills in Nigeria except Jonathan, this is despite the fact that he was deputy governor of bayelsa, governor of bayelsa, vice president of nigeria, and now president of nigeria for five years. Forget Nigeria as a whole, go and see what bayelsa is like. To people like you even if Jonathan remains president for another 50 years and Nigeria is still a dump, it would still be everybody else's fault except his. What is new? |
I see this rubbish is still making the rounds. Typical PDP and Jonathan fare, banking on politics of divison and not achievements to win support. |
Ah ah, I am confused. But I thought Bayelsa has been enjoying 24hrs light since 2009 . . . |
Kennywills7:Keep looking for excuses to defend the irrationality of doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Others have decided to try something different, to at the least send a message to the political class that they should not take it for granted that they would always win, hence the need to perform. |
Kennywills7:I don't understand people like you I really don't. How many times has APC run the country? None, and yet after admitting the failure of PDP you are so fixed in your view that we must continue with them because you are sure they are not good even though the APC has not democratically held the presidency. I don't get it, do you people enjoy no light, unemployment and insecurity and reading of looted funds all the time? You people just enjoy suffering, Unbelievable!! |
Justcash:@OP Fortunately most people don't see everything through the lens of ethnicity like you do, including the so called minorities whose cause you are "fighting". For many people it is a simple matter of performance. The Jonathan you are shouting about has done little to nothing to develop the region he comes from and the people have not felt his impact, so what on earth are you talking about? His campaign in the Niger delta region mostly consisted of him going round and being told he has not done anything for the region. For a lot of people the issue is simply performance in the context of resources available. What is Bayelsa like today with the Jonathan presidency? |
No10:And you are entitled to your own opinion on that. For me I can't see how much lower Nigeria can sink with the most corrupt presidency we have EVER had, the politics of division and the insecurity. I think very few things can be worse than what currently obtains. Nigeria has made more money in five years of Jonathan than the last decade plus combined with oil selling at the prices they were in most of his tenure. Corruption needs to be tackled and Jonathan has more than showed that he cannot tackle it and is part of it. Don't understand how continuing with this is progressive in any way, but to each their own. |
No10:I see the point you are trying to make but understand that at the end of the day we have two choices here really, Jonathan or Buhari. Unfortunately, these are our options and the question is, which one would be the "better" of the options. For me I don't see the country continuing the way things are now as a viable option and that is what it has come down to for many people. Again, unfortunately, these are the options, and if anything unseating a non performing and corrupt incumbency for the first time since return to democracy in 1999 can only be good for our democracy. |
Some of the criticism on Amaechi might be well placed but I must say, a MAJORITY of what I see here has only highlighted one of the issues bedeviling Nigeria's democracy and development, sycophancy. Majority of the criticisms you hear about Amaechi tends to be about how he is "Judas" and how he has "betrayed" his "brother" and all that balderdash. I do have to say, if Amaechi's perceived "sin" is not agreeing with the presidency and his wife and refusing to allow them act unchallenged, then I forgive him. The people who have the serious mental problems are those that think challenging the presidency if you think he is doing wrong (as many believe) and challenging the president's wife's right to interfere in state politics is a "sin" of "betrayal". Bayelsa that has bowed without resistance to the presidency and his wife, how is development there? Is that place now Dubai? And you people are here shouting "betrayer" to a governor whose state boasts some of the best public school and health infrastrucure in the country. This is why I say Nigerians can be their own worst enemies. SYCOPHANCY. They will even beg for the opportunity to lick satan's nyansh. |
relchange:All that Jonathan had to do to remain popular was perform, reform, and not run the most corrupt government we have ever seen. Nigerians want better so please save your empty sentiments for yourself. He has also lost a lot of support from the "minorities" whose sensibilities you are trying to pander to with your copy and paste "analysis" and whose lives he has NOT made better; Bayelsa was a dump when he was govenor, and is still a dump now, heck even MEND is supporting "change". And yes, the fact that Obasanjo's government was not fantastic does not justify this one being bad, we want better governments and what is bad is bad. If Obasanjo managed with oil selling at over $100 for majority of his tenure he would have done better. So again, save your empty sentiments for people who can be bothered to swallow it without thinking. |
doctokwus:For me comparing both presidencies is apple and oranges, especially since it seems practically nothing happened in Yar Adua's administration and let us not be so quick to forget Aondoaka, Turai, and that terrible INEC chairman we had in that tenure. Jonathan on the other hand has been able to do a few things, my issue is the advance does not justify the resources that were available to him. I really do believe if Abacha had this ammount of money at his disposal we would have been more developed!!! Jonathan has had more money at his disposal than ANY OTHER Nigerian presidency, and his presidency has also been the most corrupt and unecessarily divisive. And what is worse is he seems to be supporting the corruption and divisiveness and misrule. Just look at the role his wife has been playing in the Rivers State turmoil. Our senses have never been so assaulted by multiple scandals of such magnitude finance and flagrant abuse of power and sychophancy all mixed into one unholy stream in such a short space of time. And considering the good will that brought him in as well. . . And even with all that money, we now have little to no savings from the good years and we are now in debt and in trouble with the plunge in oil prices. |
oduastates:If you believe that then I'm afraid you really don't understand what is going on. Would he prosecute his wife as well and possibly himself? Forget good manism, corruption is at the heart of this presidency. By the way @OP, we said Yar Adua was a good man as well and sure he was ill, but let us be honest, that was one of the most unproductive presidencies Nigeria has ever had in it's history. It is not about being a "good man". |
Franzeez:Have no interest in being Nigeria's president or a local government chariman but if I did I would stake my "success" on the foundations of a credible government and achievements that improve lives, not corruption. But I know that is difficult for people like you to understand, you probably see success as getting admission into secondary school and not the results you get when you are there, that is why it is so easy for you to class failures as success. I dare not think who your heroes in life are |
chukwudi44:You are completely and utterly shameless and I worry for the kind of morals you would instill in your children. The level of sycophancy I have seen around this election and Jonathan are absolutely shocking and horrendous. So you are actually aggregating strength to the ability of one to use the state to fight his opposition? Is that strength in your eyes or cowardice? What is even more worrying is the feverish support you give to it, do you think Jonathan knows your name or gives a damn about you? Keep on mortgaging your future for a chance of what you see in your head as some confused sense of "victory" that would mean no light and more corruption. Disgusting |
dedollarman:Don't you think you deserve better? Keep shouting "tribe" and carrying it on your head, what development has that brought you so far? The man that is in power now has not betrayed you enough. What an irony, claiming somebody is a bigot when you are the one displaying that bigotry. The man in power is corrupt and there is no light or security or good infrastructure, but you will vote him in anyway because you are scared the other man might "betray" your tribe? Yes. How rational you sound. It is reasoning like this that is destroying this country, not bad politicians, bad followership. |
