Mbediogu:Don't just times the Buhari years by five, multiple the available money to effect change to take into account oil selling at RECORD levels for most of those five years, no significant inherited debt, and you will see why most sensible people see Jonathan as a mute option to not even be considered. When people say he has underperformed, it is taking into account the resources and good will that were available at his disposal. The issue of why our politics throws up the choice we are now faced with is a retrospective issue for another day, Nigerians have a choice in a few days, and I see no sense whatsoever in rewarding a failed president and a failed party with another four years. Heck if even to just strengthen and progress our democracy. As you rightly said, the choice lies with the people, and as long as the elections are free and fair and there is no voilence, the choice of the people should be respected. |
chemali:I concur. |
Mbediogu:Let us stick to the point please. I don't think anyone is claiming leadership properties are exclusive to one region of the country over another, but the simple fact is the viable choice in this election is between Jonathan and Buhari, so no need for blue sky wishful thinking at this point, let us accept that reality. Jonathan's presidency has not benefitted the region, he is aware of this. That is why when he went on the campaign trail in the region he was full of apologetics and renewed promises, because his presidency has not made any meaningful impact in the region except for in the pocket of a few corrupt people and miscreants like Asari. Even Asari in an interview a few months ago acknowledged that Jonathan has underperformed so the question is, why does he still insist on the continuation of bad governance if not just for his pocket? Most well meaning Nigerians have said we need to tackle corruption to progress as a country, why would Asari insist on the continuation of a government that seems impotent to fight corruption and even seems a very part of the corruption Nigerians seek to see tackled? The issue remains good governance and here is the funny thing. It isn't just the Niger Delta that Jonathan's presidency hasn't made an impact on. Jonathan's presidency has not made an impact in the south east, in the south west, in the middle belt, so what are we talking about here? 5 years later and Nigerians are still complaining about the problems they have been complaining about since time immemorial: no light, corruption, poor infrastructure. Would the choice of some people in this election be based on ethnic sentiments? Yes. Should that stop the people who are genuinely disappointed in the Jonathan administration from voting for something else? I don't think so. |
Mbediogu:I hear what you're saying but think its a false argument. The suya seller or beggar in Kano has not been ruling you, the elites from that region have, and the suya seller is just as much a victim. Secondly, it is Asari's solution to his so called disagreements that I find puerile. He wants us to continue enduring bad governance for what reason? If not so he can continue getting paid for doing nothing at the expense of development and progress for ordinary Nigerians then for what reason? He likes to make grandiose and seemingly plausible arguments that always end up specious when properly dissected. Asari is only fighting for his own stomach, and wants to get other poor people fighting for him and his stomach as well by using infantile logic. Are we saying the solution to underdevelopment in the region and injustice is bad governance? Odilli that is from the region and ruled Rivers State for eight years, what benefit did the people obtain from his leadership? |
common criminals fighting for their own stomach, what is new? The i.diot is the one from the region that believes Asari is fighting for them and not for his own personal stomach. Bad governance affects us ALL. Asari is getting his share from bad governance, the ordinary person on the street in Port Harcourt or Yenegoa or Uyo isn't getting paid for threatening violence and being a common thug. This whole idea of threatening everybody and trying to raise cheap and highly misplaced ethnic sentiments cannot work again because bad governance affects everyone. Nigeria needs good governance that can bring development to everybody, not a corrupt and impotent government that pays money to keep Adari and Tompolo and his band of fellow militants happy. The region and Nigeria as a whole is bigger than Asari, heck even Asari's village is bigger than Asari. The arrogance of the audacity itself is offensive. |
This is funny. If I could be bothered I would spend time bringing up more of these type of threads so people are aware of what they are proposing with vote to continue when they shout "GEJ till 2019". This power one doesn't even go far enough, I assure you Jonakthan started promising stable power even before he was president. When he was Yar Adua's vice he made similar promise. |
All that has to be said is that Buhari made this promise and I would take it with seriousness, that is what integrity in character does. Jonathan can keep shouting "Second Niger Bridge" till tomorrow, it would always remain a matter of "seeing first then beleiving", because he has a record of broken promises, underperformance, and running his mouth. |
Longeria:No need to apologise to me I am fine, you lie in the bed you make. If you willingly choose to continue rewarding failure and incompetence in your life then that is your business. Hopefully other Nigerians think differently. |
All these eleventh hour commisioning that do not result in real effects, only the gullible will buy it. I have never seen Jonathan seemingly work so hard, and all because of threat of losing election. Only goes to show that there is absolutely no guarantee that anything will change if he is returned to power and all of this is just for show to win more votes. PDP has to lose this election for Nigeria to progress. |
marcoNG:PEJ - "If anybody shout 'change' stone that person" |
Sorry to have to be this blunt, but anybody who still falls for this age thing is just an i.diot. What is even most amusing is the way the presidency has tried to personalise this age message to YOU the ordinary young man/woman on the street. 'Vote the young man to stop the old man from stealing the future away from YOU the youth who are the leaders of tomorrow'. First of all, I think we have serious mental issues as a populace if we can refer to a 57 year old man as young, or a "youth" as some demented people like to call him. Secondly, what would unlock the potential of the youth in Nigeria to thrive is a presidency who can deliver infrastructure, power, tackle corruption and cronyism, and present an environment that allows young people to unlock their potential. In that regards, this government has failed. And no people, YOUWIN and SURE-P is not unlocking the potential of the youth. So please, enough of this whole "Jonathan is a youth" nonsense, it is getting embrassing. And no, Jonathan winning again would not be a victory for Mr "Young Person". There is no cheque being shared by the government to young people for being "young". We need a government that can tackle the issues and provide a Nigeria where potentials can be unlocked and thrive, not one where ideas and dreams go to die. |
What gall, what audacity!! Someone who granted presidential pardon to a convicted corrupt criminal (Alams) and till today still refers to him as his boss is giving lecture on celebrating corrupt people. Does this man think he is talking to children? |
I am sure they all want power to a degree, but Wike is not even pretending to have a thought out plan of moving the state forward. He wants to win elections because he wants to be governor. Period. Rivers state had that before - Odilli - and see what happened .. . . |
What stopped him from doing it over the past five years, what is stopping it from doing it right now he is still the president? This is the season of saying anything to win election. |
Page four of thread and still no picture of the bridge for us to evaluate. Is this going to be like Jonathan's "13 new federal universities" which are allergic to photography? |
Pretty much captures my sentiment. This election is a referendum on Jonathan and PDPs failed 16 years. An APC win would at the least grow our democracy, give it more depth, and put power back in the hands of the people; and if they fail they get kicked out in the following election, that simple. You can't fail the people for 16 years and confidently expect to return to power, that is absurd. |
dazdilijae:Keep lying to yourself with that nonsense you typed. Massive government scandal every week and you are there typing IPPIS and GINIS. How much has this government made in the past five years and what is there to show for it? IPSIS my yansh. Most recently we have a minister nominated by Jonathan to serve despite the fact that he was clearly implicated in planning vote rigging and you have the audacity to come and shout "corruption fights back" are you not ashamed? Wonders shall never cease |
The hype isn't Buhari, the hype is Jonathan and how bad he has been, how big a disappointment he has been considering the huge wave of enthusiasm that brought him into power last elections. The hype is how much we have made as a country over the past five years of this administration and how little there is to show for it with oil selling at over a hundred dollars. The hype is how bad PDP as a party as been and how much they have let this country down over 16 years in power. That is the hype, and it is not unfounded. |
Macelliot:Words are nothing, I don't know you. Show us. |
Johnsinia:No need trying to anticipate my expectations. Post pictures let the Nigerian people decide if the structure they see is worthy of the hype the federal government as been trying to generate with this. It really is that simple. But it's okay, I know why something so simple is difficult to post, it is the shame. Bad product is bad product, that is why someone was posting Convenant university chapel and claiming it to be a structure from one of the new "Universities" |
Macelliot:Post pictures so we can see and be amazed as well. No more discussion required, let us see the universities, not more stolen pictures from Covenant University being advertised as Jonathan universities |
NDPVF:What has what you are saying got to do with the fact that Jonathan is a terrible leader that needs to be changed if Nigeria has any chance at a new direction? It is not by force to reply, and I think I might just take my own advice. |
emmasege:People who can read between the lines would know the message being passed. How much was spent on these federal universities to get them to these "temporary" state? And no, four years is not a short time, Amaechi was able to build 100s of schools of high calibre construction around his state in this time frame, as well as high calibre health centres. Fashola was able to build much more in that time frame as well. Should we not expect more from the federal government that has more resources at it's disposal especially with the high oil prices that lasted for most of this administration's time in power? |
Overplayed trash. People want good government and don't care where it comes from. The "young" Jonathan is grossly corrupt, incompetent, and impotent in face of the issues Nigeria is facing. Chad, Niger and Cameroun are having to handle Boko Haram for the giant of Africa and you are here typing some utterly irrelevant trite, are you not ashamed? No light, corruption, unemployment, poor infrastructure, insecurity, impunity. Nigerians believe you deserve better. A vote for the current government is a vote for the continuation of our current issues. |
A credible opposition to a corrupt and non performing party of 16 years is the liability to Nigeria, not the corrupt and non performing party of 16 years? Sycophants will always be sycophant. |
noah555777:Not "more" pics, three pics. The grey building was a stolen picture from Covenant University. Typical of this admin. I keep asking for pictures of these thirteen newly built universities to be submitted for public evaluation. And if the three pictures which you got from the website are what the noise of "New federal universities" has been about then my fears have been confirmed, but then again Jonathan doesn't surprise me anymore. |
Netanyahu the war monger. Worse than George Bush. |
OP you are saying what everyone already knows. We keep hearing Jonathan built 13 brand new universities from scratch. Whenever you ask anybody to show us pictures of these brand new federal universities built by the federal government of Jonathan so we can evaluate them, the place goes quiet. Goes quiet because the structures are nothing to write home about, you just see signboard in the bush for most of them. |
President Idriss taking the lead to sort out Nigeria's mess and showing Jonathan what leadership looks like. Can you imagine? Giant of Africa my right yansh |
which one be "eye brow area"? |
Like husband like wife. She genuinely seems incapabe of deep thought and understanding. The crudeness doesn't help either. |
Good to see ordinary people are not being deceived anymore. Boko Haram, power, corruption. It is either incompetence or complicity and neither is flattering. Funny to read truck drivers complaining about roads, I thought Jonathan completed 25000km of roads and 13 new federal universities? Jokers |
