I know it's scary to contemplate doing something like editing the Quran but that won't be necessary. Muslims' attitude is the first thing they need to change. If 2 people are reading the same book and one is an intolerant extremist while the other is the direct opposite, then there is a state of mind and level of understanding the latter is in which the former needs to be. If all Muslims are like the latter, Islam will stop having problems with the world and will actually be a shining example.


As a matter of fact, many Muslims have started adopting the "live & let live" system. That's why most people irrespective of their background are comfortable to go work and holiday in the UAE today. A lot of Muslims & Muslim nations have a lot to learn from that country.

I'll give you the honor. Start thinking of the doctrines in your religion which breeds intolerance & potentially threatens world peace. Those would be expunged first. Definitely not limited to Islam. This has to be done for any religion or ideology which hurts the cause of humanity.

Well, you still ended up comparing the 2 religions. Your argument seems to be..."if some Xtians behave badly, then no one should condemn Muslims for being bad." But that's not good enough and your instances are mostly political instances. People, esp politicians always use religious sentiments to score points.

No adherents of any other religion would commit mass murder today and tell you that according to his God, he'll be rewarded for doing so, or that his prophet said so. The changes that the Islamic religion needs to go through are gigantic when compared to other religions.

Not that I'm blaming today Muslims for these problems though - no one was born with a particular religion's ID on his/her body. We all came into this world and simply adopted our parents' religions (If you were born into a Christian family, you'd be here defending the Holy Bible today). But the earlier we understand and admit this and start changing our mindset, the better for the world. I say this because I know that with the present state of things, the world can never be peaceful.

This is not really a comparison of religions. But it's only the Abrahamic religions who have the "my god is the only true one, yours is fake" doctrine. I'm talking Judaism, Islam & Christianity.


Over time, Christianity has evolved to a large extent. Murderous doctrines of the past have been abandoned and it's only extremist Christians who will justify hate & violence in the name of their God and those are in the minority today. The religion still has its own issues but intolerance is definitely not one of them.


Judaism has always been the same. It's not just a religion but a racial one. You can't be a Judaist without being a Jew. And their religion has been highly diluted with local politics, but unless you're a Palestinian, chances are you may never encounter a Judaist in your entire lifetime.


The very ideology of Islam enjoins & expects Muslims to keep striving until Islamic law is entrenched in every part of the world. That could make sense 1000+ yrs ago when the world was very small but definitely not today that people have access to information and have freedom of choice as a basic human right. So Islam too is a political religion and that's why it'll always have problems with the West. (Did you hear a recent case of some fanatical Muslims trying to implement Shariah law on the streets of London?)


But the major problem with Islam is that change is not allowed in the religion. In fact that's its only problem. Islam does not condone dissent. Many Muslims know that some Islamic doctrines do not have a place in the modern world, but they can't even say it loud for fear of being labeled apostates. In fact in some Muslim countries, condemning the Sharia will either land you in jail or cost you your life. Non-Muslims will not see Islam as a peaceful religion just because Muslims say so, but only if Muslims evolve their ideologies.


As I said before, this is not a quest to find out which religion is better. It's just a discussion of how old religious ideologies fit into a modern world. There's really no need quoting the holy books. I'd rather base my analysis on what adherents of each religion do and which they justify using these holy books.

You do not need to justify your convictions to anybody. If they think your "Muslimness" is not good enough, well they're not God.

BTW, calling non-muslims unbelievers is highly condescending & is a reflection of the high level of intolerance amongst a large no of Muslims nowadays. They give the impression that you can't be a good Muslim and still love a fellow human being who happens not to be a Muslim. I am from a Muslim background too & have taken a lot of time to study different religious ideologies. In my opinion, once your religion starts teaching you that people of other religions are less human & thus are condemnable to eternal damnation, start questioning those beliefs fast. However, your automobile is AWD, albeit part-time. With AWD vehicles, it's important ALL driven wheels are the same diameter. When you run different size wheels, the smaller ones will rotate at a faster rate than the larger ones, for the same distance travelled. This will cause excessive tyre wear due to tyre scrub (and of course, increased fuel consumption). The centre differential will also work excessively, trying to keep all wheels turning at the same rate, this will cause the differential to overheat, and you risk blowing the transfer box.

You need to have ALL your tyres the same size, the difference is too great.

225/65x16 = 699mm.
225/70x16 = 721mm.

Difference = 22mm (3,15%).

Shocking revelations from Jarkata, the capital of Indonesia revealed that over 21 Nigerians are facing death sentences while 31 are serving various jail terms in different prisons in that country for various offences including drug peddling. Sunday Sun gathered that out of the 21 condemned Nigerians, two of them, Samuel Iwuchukwu Okoye and Hassan Anthony Nwaolisa, were executed on June 28, 2008, while one Augustine Ogbonna died under mysterious circumstance in prison custody in September, 2008.

However, the shocking revelation from the L.P Kembang Kuning prisons and other prisons in the country as revealed by a human rights lawyer based in Onitsha, Mr. Melly Eze showed that 10 Nigerians who were among the 21 prisoners earlier sentenced to death by the Indonesia court in 2008, would be executed this week if the threat from the prisons authority is anything to go by. Mr. Eze in the petition titled: “Shocking Revelation From Indonesia Prisons: Execution Of 18 Nigerians Scheduled For Between June and August, 2010”, stated that there was fresh threat to execute the prisoners on death row anytime from now if no further diplomatic efforts and pressure were mounted on the Indonesian authorities.

“I have it on good and reliable authority that officials of Indonesian government who opened discussions with the Nigerian delegation are now expressing disappointment over an apparent display of lack of seriousness on the part of Nigerian government over the diplomatic move already initiated by Nigerian government officials.” The human rights lawyer recalled that his earlier petition to the Presidency, the National Assembly and the Foreign Affairs Ministry in October, 2008 in respect of the 21 Nigerians on death row and others serving various jail terms in Indonesia attracted reactions from Senator Uche Chukwumerije who moved a motion on the floor of the Senate concerning the matter.

He said that his earlier petition had attracted the attention of the then Foreign Affairs Minister, Chief Ojo Maduekwe, who led a high- powered delegation to Indonesia to mediate on behalf of the convicts and 50 other prisoners serving various jail terms in Indonesia. “The Senate President, David Mark, wrote me personally promising that the issue would be addressed, just as Dabiri-Erewa granted a press interview where she assured Nigerians that the government was committed to doing everything possible to address the plight of those Nigerians.

So also did Senator Uche Chukwumerije,” he said. “Four years after the delegation to Indonesia and assurances of mediating for the troubled Nigerians, the federal government may not have taken any further steps to get reprieve for the Nigerians. The visit of Indonesian President, Mr. Suuilo Bambang Yudhoyono to Nigeria today (Saturday) is the best opportunity for President Goodluck Jonathan and the National Assembly to fulfill their promises to get relief for the troubled Nigerians,” the lawyer stated.

The Senate President, David Mark in a letter signed by his Chief of Staff, Mr. Agbo Ogah, dated November 7, 2008, had thanked the human rights lawyer for drawing the attention of the senate and indeed, Nigerians to the ugly situation faced by Nigerians in Indonesia and promised to do his best to that effect after referring the matter to the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs. Senator Uche Chukwu-merije also in his letter dated November 13, 2008, also said: “In order to get a clearer picture of the ordeal of these Nigerians, I sought for first hand information via telephone text messages from some of the victims in Indonesia.

Following the Senate summon of the Minister, he led a high-powered delegation to Indonesia where the team interceded with Indonesian authority and returned with strong hope of a change of heart in Jarkata.” Meanwhile, there are fresh fears that some of the Nigerians earlier sentenced to death by the Indonesian court in 2008 may be among the 10 prisoners to be executed any moment from now as stated on the Internet. It was also gathered that the victims were being kept in various prisons in Nusakambagan Island including L.P Kembang Kuning, L.P Batu, L. P Besi, L.P Pasir Putth, L.P Permisian, L.P Markoba, Bandung, Bali and Medan all located in the city of Jarkata.

Changed AC compressor last wk. AC working fine but belt squeals when I accelerate while AC is ON. Technician realised that the AC comp belt was a bit loose. He adjusted it and it's fine now.

Went to Dunlop tire shop to check my front driver side tire which loses pressure from time to time. No leaks discovered after a thorough check & I was asked to go use it again. Valve changed though. All 4 tyres' pressure adjusted to 30psi as recommended in car manual.

When my car was imported from US, it came with P255/65R16 106S at the front and P255/70R16 109S at the back. The recommended tyre for all 4 wheels in the manual is the 106S. Is this arrangement still within allowed variation?

These guys should stop moaning. Apart from Nairaland, I've not heard about this car anywhere else and I live in Lagos. This is not a charity organization & you can't force people to patronize you. The auto industry has been there for a century & you have to fight hard to get your foot in the door. They should

-Advertise their products aggresively - TV (incl CNN), radio, billboards.
-Change that ugly logo. Nigerians are a very stylish & discerning people and they pay a lot of attention to things like that.
-They should think less of profits for now. This is a long-term investment and they have to establish a presence first.
-Give us juicy offers such as financing, 3-yr warranty & a fantastic customer support.
-Focus more on commuter buses and taxis for now. People need to start seeing them everywhere.

Trust me, Nigerians know good things when they see. Word-of-mouth will push their products even more as soon as they've established a presence & good reputation.

You're very right. I've heard of 4 different cases of people that I know this week.

I think the scarcity of money in Jan, and partial ban of okada may be responsible.

I have seen increased police presence in my area though. I think police should be shooting those guys and dumping their bodies. Arresting them is a waste of time.
