Nice thread. I'll be 29 later this year with a prayer to settle down on or before I clock 30.
I think I made a mistake couple of years back by not settling down when I had the chance with a girl; I just got a job she just finished nysc and was all over me to settle down, wish I grabbed that opportunity. Babe is today married with a daughter and we hang out, take her and her daughter to fast food and chill, no hard feelings.
Like the op said, I'm just too choosy now. I'm a final year doctoral student, two years ago I used to say I will not marry any girl who doesn't have at least a masters degree. Last year I dropped that to at least a bsc and working, men this year I just want a God fearing, good Lady..... I've been too choosy I guess.
Met an Akwa ibom chick couldn't move further (I'm AS and oh am from the south west) so it also kinda compound issues.
Single presently, hopeful this year nonetheless.

In uniport too some department like economics require 4.0 minimum in masters for admission into PhD program

Nice one @slydog

@topic: IMHO, the "golden era" of banking is gone. This is not the best time to jump from one back to another.

It is the bank to consolidate, finetune exit plan (Plan B) and make the best out of the system while it lasts.

Will be back to make more comments cool
Smart one bro, I will be five years in banking and marketing this year and am burnt out. Am really grateful to my first bank, we were made to read Steven Covey's book 7 habits of highly effective leaders, and one habit that has guided me to this day is begin with the end in mind, from day one based on this habit I began thinking of my exit plan. I gave myself 5years to work, achieve my personal goals and leave the industry, and I can tel you my plans are working out, Five years by December this year, am sure of where I will be, Plan B!

well Aisha Buhari was tactically passing some subtle messages to Nigerian, but we just joked about everything on twitter. For a first lady to come out and openly condemn her husband, especially a Fulani woman is high commendable and risky but we joked and made memes of the whole situation. Whatever, Buhari is not alright, we have a Yar adua saga on hand, it is only a matter of time, we are patiently waiting for the end of the hurried leave. Osinbajo had better find his way out of Abuja briefly. The North is very desperate and will continue to shield evil and demonic blood sucking Fulani's, as far they are concerned, we are all infidels. Let us shine our eyes and continue to put pressure on this government
They know better than to touch osinbajo, otherwise they will rule d north alone

You really have made lots of sense. I have PM'ed you, kindly respond so we can chat offline I need to ask a question or two. Cheers.

Ok, so I created this topic in this section because am sure I would get mature and useful advice here.

I am currently 24, employed in the banking industry and dating a 20 year old lady. I plan on settling down 2 years from now, but I know there are things that needs to be in place before this happens.

My question here is what are the priorities and major necessities that one must have in place to actualize this. I have mine but I need neutral opinions. This thought was triggered after a discussion I had with my girlfriend.

Cc: Lalasticlala , Chaircover , RoyalRoy
Bro, I feel you. Let me narrate my experience on this with you.
I also started banking at your age, I had a very sweet girlfriend who was a corper at the period. She was all over me for marriage, talking about settling down, trust me she was no gold digger as she was also well to do.
I ditched or dumped her cos I was scared of settling down, I thought with my small pay this babe wanna tie me down, o thought this was the best time for flexing your own money, clubbing etc
Bro, today the babe is married, lives in Texas. Last week she posted the pic of her baby girl, and I liked it on fb, babe called me tru fb call and told me I should have been the father.
I was four years in banking last December bro and am not married. I regret not settling down three years ago. The money I thought was small, that man needs to find more money, bro the money is still the same, hard to find true love at this stage cos you really can't tell if she likes your car your house or anything.
So I'll advise you, if your gal is serious and believes in you and your dream, I feel you shouldn't wait for next two years, pls do it next year.

Do you live with your parents? If you do trying getting a house, or save towards that, you mustn't really even get the house until next year. I want you to be focused on what you want to do, I also want you to think of your exit plan out of the bank as well, give yourself a timeline like I did, I gave myself not more than five years in the banking industry, December this year will be my fifth year, and I hope to have graduated with my PhD and leave the industry by then.
Don't be deceived by society that you not ready, the difference BTW you and me four years ago is I wasn't thinking of it, here you are already thinking of marriage, push it bro.
You must also have a big wedding if you feel money might be an issue, a traditional wedding and court registry is OK bro, better to start small within your means than try to impress society.
Like I always tell people, the earlier the better is good in everything.

kelvin21887:
To be sincere, University of Portharcourt is worse than in terms of how very expensive offering a postgraduate program is there, you will pay 163,000 naira for first session, second session 110,000 naira for second session, then if u are lucky enough to graduate within this stipulated two years, of which most people spend more time than that, you now go ahead and pay a defense fee of 51,000 naira, plus many other dues such as plagiarism test fee, internal defense fee, and so on, not to mention of the recent increment in clearing yourself to collect your result to about 50k plus....its not as if they offer d best services
I graduated from a private university and was initially refused admission for msc in economics in uniport because I will be lost "in advanced micro and econometrics sophistication".
After much ado, I got the admission and emerged the best in the set with cgpa of 4.14/5 and won Tony Elumelu price of 500k
Fortunately, there was no industrial action during my period of study, and the program came to an end exactly 20months from commencement, rather than the prescribed 24months minimum study.
Was it easy for me? Hell no! I was introduced to advanced micro without note copying or dictation, purely mathetical, a fellow banker dropped out of the program because of advanced micro, Prof Okey is way too mathematical in everything, all his stuff is proof, proof, proof, it wasn't easy for me.
Specialising in development, the top professor was another issue, very simple man, very interesting class, you dare not make grammatical or writing error in his test or exam.
In all for me, I think the department of economics in Uniport is very good if you are serious, good econometric lab but only eviews package, but good. Had no choice than to register for PhD there. Only weakness I see that the areas of specialty is limited to monetary & development as the agric prof stubbornly retired without grooming anyone.
At the PhD level presently, the only challenge so far I've experienced is passing the comprehensive exam, that is where they drop one or two, we are a class of six presently, only 5passed the exam. I hear the thesis defense comes with challenges, but its surmountable, and hopefully 3yrs will be 3yrs.
PoliticsRe: The Grass Cutting Contract That Landed SGF Babachir In Trouble (Photos) by slydog(m): 2:14pm On Jan 08, 2017
The issue is not if he is doing the job or whether the contract is over bloated, the issue is he gave the contract to his company! This is conflict of interest, pure definition of corruption and he should go in for it.
RomanceRe: "Marry With The Little You Have, Now That You Are Young'' - Nigerian Guy by slydog(m): 12:28pm On Jan 03, 2017
All he said is true. The thing is, the earlier the better is best for and in everything in life.
As long as you find something good doing, pls get married. In my office here a male contract staff who realised this and got married to a lawyer, imagine him with 60k permont salary taking care of his wife and one kid, living in hisown house though not completed. I think this is the focus and responsibility that comes when married, you won't be thinking of how to impress people with the little you have but how to make wife and kids happy with that little. I also kinda regret not settling down early too
