seunpinky:
I’m on the train so I have little time to banter grin.
I don’t understand why people think Canada is a hell of a place to live.

I have a younger friend that landed some months ago as a student, she’s doing two jobs one as an education assistant paying $26/hr and another as a PSW earning $25/hr. She juggles these two jobs alongside her studies. She stays in a shared apartment and pays rent of $500 per month all inclusive. You can imagine how much she would be saving on a monthly basis.

I would have loved to share an analysis of how I was able to do 2 houses in 16months and how I raised the money but I see that most people are not here to learn. They think everybody is a lamba god grin
Hi namesake, I'm 5 months in the country.
Pls teach me how to do two ppty in 16months.
Currently saving for my first dp, hopefully next year so that I can plan well. Tnx

You see most times when I look at it I don't really see the need to relocate. Why cause if we look at it with the huge crazy bills and taxes they pay its not worth it .
You can make 40m in Nigeria today without paying one penny in tax of which reverse is the case there . if not for good standard of living, good roads,24hrs electricity, good medical facilities, raising your kids in a serene environment I don't see the need of going there....
It is the tax you are refusing to pay, coupled with foolish politicians in all strata of govt in Nigeria that makes it not worth it paying tax.
I'm in Canada, I pay my fair share of tax, I'm a family of three, wife not working yet but I save good money to buy a house in 10 months. I'm just in my 5th month in Canada.
Good roads, light has not gone off in the past 5 months here. My electricity bill is $71 per month, my provincial govt declared budget surplus and felt like help people, what did they do? Subsidize electricity bill for one year by $50 a month, thus I've been paying $21 a month since I arrived. Internet bill is $63 per month, unlimited internet we are not used to in Nigeria, netflix $10 per month, mobile phone $35 per month, these are the so called bills I pay monthly, since I arrived, car insurance $160 per month, all less than $300, aside rent. So I'm good and ok here. I have a child, child benefit monthly is $550, this pays off my so called bills with balance, lol. If you have the means to japa, legitimately pls do, no need engaging in threads that literally don't make sense like. Nigerians are rapidly joining the political system here, this Saturday I will join a door to Dorr campaign for Kaycee Madu, there is another Yoruba guy too who is standing for election in the same province. I want to start volunteering to understand their process and if possible one day contest for something. Like I said, if you have the means, pls do not hesitate to come. Good thing about it too is, your old parents can come and be permanent residents too and the govt will be paying them old age income of up to $1000 monthly, I mean what else do you need?

LoL, its My first winter here, I decided to buy live goat, 90kg goat for $450, slaughter am for everyday pepper soup.....

... Is that not like a government funded housing scheme..What's the advantage of applying for it and for how long can one enjoy it?
It's provincial govt.
You enjoy it as long as your income remains very low. As you get good jobs, the rent begin to increase and you will run away yourself.

Hey @ednut1, it has been a long time. I am glad to see that you are still on here.

In 2009 I took a job as a credit analyst (processing credit cards applications) in one of the major American banks with an extension in Canada.(Citibank).
Citibank have few extensions in Canada known as Citi Financial, Citicards Canada .... I was working for Citicards Canada.
The pay was $15/hour (close to 30K/year) for a credit analyst at that ime. But, given that I was bilingual I was making $17/hours (close to 34K/year).

I am surprised that the annual income of a credit analyst to be 65K in today market (more than the double of what it used to be back in 2009).
Adding to that, I know people working for TD bank in different department with wages ranging from 40K to 50K. That is why I was expecting a credit analyst at TD to be making about the same.

In any case, I am happy for @slydog for getting a 65K credit analyst job at TD. And good luck to him.

@Emmasonic4me
You were a credit analyst processing "credit cards", in Nigeria this will fall under operations. Surprised the role is called credit analyst in Canada. In Nigeria credit analyst are the ones who review all the loans and financing needs of companies and businesses and individuals ranging from personal loans, mortgage, project finance, working capital, syndicated loans and all. This is the same thing my role in TD does and I will be given an approval limit of loans I can approved. I'm specifically in the commercial real estate unit, there are others in the personal mortgage unit, project unit and all, it's more diversified here, so no, I'm not reviewing and approving "credit cards". I opened account with a relationship manager I'm Scotia and he "decided" to give me a credit card. He didn't need to consult with any credit analyst.

I worked in the banking industry for 9years as a relationship manager.
In March this year, I asked my boss to nominate me for sack (when you are sacked they pay you a few millions depending on your level).
The day the sack list came was the day Canada stamped my passport. I arrived Canada last month, I'm resuming work on the 2nd of next month (on my 59th day in Canada) as a credit analyst in one of Canada big 3 banks. My annual pay is a $65,000 not a bad start at all. People with $100k combined income (husband and wife) are buying houses here and there.
I encourage every banker to run away.

This CBN governor is a big idiot to say that increase interest rate is to tame inflation.
He is right.
It's basic economics
In Canada the central bank increased it by 0.25% last month, this month it was increased by 1%
There is a global inflation which is attributed to supply disruption of various commodities as a result of the Russian Ukraine War.

In Regina, love the place, small, can get around in minutes, 2bedroom got for $795 per month, can apply for Regina housing that can cut my rent bill by 50%, heard they have income support too, don't know if I should apply now.
Got a nice Honda civic too, 3700
However, I've been doing lots of interviews, but only one in Regina- Brandt. U can't compare job opportunities here to that in Alberta, however the place is nice

I love this response. As a banker myself, this is the best response so far.
December next year will make me 9 years in the banking industry. Withing this period I have earned a masters and PhD degree. My anticipated checked out from banking is March next year. I'm also pursuing the Canadian dream.
My advise, give yourself a target of say 3 to five years, write the goals u want to achieve. Education? Very important to prepare yourself for the future. I pursued a PhD so that at the worse I become a lecturer or hunt govt appointment. This has also enabled me chase the Canadian dream, lol.
So plan. With fintech and the telecom giants going into financial services, trust me jobs in Bank will become even more u secured (its not even secured even at its best moment)
Banking should be your launching pad. Trust me, you will become a Professor far far far far more faster than growing from an entry level to become an AGM, DGM, GM, ED, and CEO.
Lemme give u an idea check from your ET level to a full manager level, check the number of levels, you'll get what I mean. Except you have someone giving 1bn deposit, I doubt u can climb higher every year in banking. It's been 9 years for me, just one promotion. But I'm happy with my degrees cos it's only a matter of time, tick tok
Nice advice I gave here.
Just landed in Canada early this month. Looking for university lecturing jobs and also banking jobs. The first banking interview I did had a pay of CAD75,000 per year, would have been a great start, didn't get the job though, we moveee
