All the neighbors living next door hear me loud and clear from their apartment and vise versa. I also tip toe to avoid disturbing those living under me. Its a 6 flat building in the heart of Abuja. Funny enough, hole cannot be easily drilled on the wall. Its a new building that looks to beautiful and strong. 1.5 m for a 2 bed flat. What kind of house is that?
Guys sometime in June as I woke up from bed in the morning, I noticed swelling on my left feet (instep). Night before, I woke up with a start in the night having felt stiffled breath with serious dizziness. I didnt know what it was, so I prayed and managed to sleep back. In the morning that swelling was paining me at the joint joining my toes to the feet, with frog like swelling and without any visible bite mark, though there was slight scratch at the side of the smallest toe which if bled had obviously dried up the surface. The swelling darkened the portion of the feet and did not pass the instep to the other parts of the leg but the side of the ankle looked blistered and oedematised (pressed and took time to come up-if I'm right ) The pain subsided the second day, I could not go to hospital due to lock down and corona scare but I started taking siprotab and applying iceblock. After the severe pain subsided, terrible itches started on the place where the swelling occurred. I then started using hot water which held the itches after a while. The itches left and no pain again either but the feet shaded the old skin. Though i still feel some itches at times and as if a little fold is in between the first two toes. All along also, I was also using anointing oil cos I could not fathom what was wrong. Just this yesterday, I found a snake in my generator house. It had even removed scales there showing it had been under the tyre carrying the gen for long. Though it is a small brown snake but quite long. I scampered for safety when I saw it and got petrol and splashed it on the tyre from a distance. It didnt take time to die after which I smashed the head. My worry is: could this snake had been there since and bitten me in June? Or could it had been something else? If it was the snake bite could the venom have been in my body cos i didnt take anti venom. Though I have decided to go to the hospital but I'm a bit worried.
phylshan: You deserve same bro. If you went to school abroad, returned here to serve your fatherland and got to Bbnaija house, I will give you same accolades bro. Just show some love.
MANDIPUTIN: Nasir Hassan Wagini is a lecturer at Umaru Musa Yar'adua University Katsina and has studied plant physiology at Cairo University, studied Botany at Bayero University kano, studied Institute of African Research and Studies Cairo University.
Nairaland has derailed greatly. What's happening and who's managing the moderation of this blog? Where are the trending news? What is this. Channels is reporting people relocation from Maiduguri village due to insurgency and food price, fuel price, electricity price are on astronomical increase. What kind of news is going to Otuke, not even Otueke and before now was Shade's younger brother posing with birthday chicken. What message does that carry, when it is not coming from a celebrity or politician. I am not sure the owner of this blog has supervisors who check the mods.
BrTune: Ok. do you mind giving me an idea,of the date you got when you reserved a slot in June? I want to estimate how far into the year all available slots have been booked.
BrTune: Can you explain further please? I cant seem to schedule a date on their website, it keeps saying no available dates, when I get to the visa priority stage.
Oh, I do not know about that. Maybe it'd a later development . I got a date when I scheduled in June this year
I was admitted for my graduate studies in the U.S for Fall 2020. I have paid the SEVIS fee, gotten my I20, filled the DS160 form and also paid for visa.
Because of the visa restrictions in Nigeria, I deferred to Spring 2021. I have also gotten the new I20 for Spring 2021. I need advice on how to proceed this time. Do I need to fill the DS160 form again and apply for a visa? I read online that SEVIS fee is valid for a year, same with visa fee.
I would be grateful if someone could make this process clearer! Thanks in anticipation.
You sure can schedule an interview date, however tentative
CuteMercury: Ladies and gentleman for so long AFRICANS have lost it, we have been made to accept things that were not right, things that have been said about Africa.
A recent video of pastor Chris oyakhilome surfaces when he Said AFRICANS should stop accepting that they are black and to my surprise.
lots of NIGERIANS started to attack him, well i really don't blame them because most NIGERIANS/AFRICANS are not Enlightened and this is why the whites secretly laugh at us.
Now taking a look at the new music video of Beyonce featuring Wizkid came out days ago and the song was titled "Brown skin girl"
Now was Beyonce trying to pass a message?
Why did she not use title like "Black skin girl"?
Why Brown skin girl?
What is with the name "black" that made her to refuse the name looking at the fact that according to general Believe, she is a black American.
Can't you all see that she is trying to pass the same message that pastor Chris oyakhilome is passing.
Let me ask you people especially NIGERIANS.
They say NIGERIA is the most populous black country in the world but are NIGERIANS truly black? How black are we?
A larger percentage of NIGERIANS are brown skin which is 100% fact.
There is nothing black about us so we should open our eyes and stop accepting Nonsense.
Perhaps the reason why AFRICA is where she is today is because we have accepted something that we are not supposed to accept from the beginning.
How do you expect good things to come to you when you accept that your life is black.
Little wonder BoB Marley said in one of his song. "Emancipate yourself from mental slavery' perhaps he was talking to AFRICANS.
Brown skin girl Your skin just like pearls The best thing in the world Never trade you for anybody else Singin' brown skin girl Your skin just like pearls The best thing in the world I never trade you for anybody else
Now like i said, why didn't she use "black skin girl'
Perhaps she knows something that pastor Chris oyakhilome knows too that is associated with the word "Black"
She was trying to pass a message but only the Enlightened will understand.
If you are talking about .another race named "brown", your argument would have been more plausible. But as for "black" Africans are predominantly back Have you ever traveled to east Africa or even our west African neighbours say, Ghana, Mali? The oyibos you call "white" are they really White? Its all about a generic description. What's the difference between brown and black?Thats why they describe compendium of the races off black as "people of colour". These things are not worth generating unnecessary ripples.
jaelz: Getting money is hard and maintaining it is even harder, as such we must be very careful as to how we spend it.
So I was discussing with a friend and he told me the biggest amount of money he has ever lost in his life was when he bought a car of 3million Naira after saving for like 3 years, and he didn't use the car for up-to 3 months before he got involved in an accident that almost claimed his life with the car.
I laughed and told him mine was when I used 100,000 to play betting and lost the money while in my university days. Lessons learnt from him was that car is never an investment instead he should have invested the money, mine was that gambling never pays at all...
Guys please share yours lets all learn and be enlightened

Well Tupac Amaru Shakur inspired mine. I love his music
I had actually wondered why no single Igbo man has ever engaged on Suya business. Is it that it is not lucrative. I know our northern brothers that have made real fortune on the business. There is a place in maiduguri where Suya business is a money spinner. A full cow is slaughtered and in minutes Suya is made our if it. Very palatable. You need to be on queue to be able to buy some portions. But meen, I have never eaten anything that sweet. Its straight from farm to fire. I am thinking of bringing this down south.
pdjohnson: Hi, I sincerely hope this might be of help to you. For PhD application, the GRE could be a requirement for some programs (remember that you apply to programs and not the university) but within the same university some other programs might not require it. for example, for over a decade, the UIUC CS program which is often ranked top 6 according to the US news have not required the GRE test (the UIUC program is one of the most competitive programs with an acceptance rate of less than 5percent) . This is not often the case say in the Psy.D program at UIUC. The Harvard GSAS PhD. biomolecules track clearly states that they do not require the GRE test) but this might not be the same at Harvard CS. PhD. Yale BBS PhD program do not require the GRE test but this 'might' not be the case at say Yale EE PhD program and so on. In fact tons of programs have waived the GRE requirement, because from experience the GRE test has not proven to be an indication of success in graduate school (with specific reference to PhD programs). PhD Programs that do require the GRE do not use it as a determinant of admission but rather as a filter to reduce the number of applications required for faculties (professors) to peruse. (n/b this is not often the case in an MSc. A lot of schools do solely admit students with funding into Ms programs based off of stellar GRE scores). What you've to offer (research experience, interest) becomes more important for PhD admissions. In fact Professor Jeff Erickson at UIUC said that a letter of recommendation documenting a student's research adeptness is the most important factor used in admission decisions in PhD programs and this has been corroborated by many professors at several programs.
Are these programs fully funded? yes! Technically, most (if not all) PhD programs in the STEM at high research intensive programs (R1 universities) are fully funded, so you don't have to worry about whether or not taking the GRE will affect your chances of funding.
Should one take the GRE test whether or not it's required by the program? Well it's not necessarily
you actaully tend to clear my curiousity but a nasty experience at my last interview: Despite presenting a GRE score (score not too impressive overall but high on analytical writing; lawyer with several years research experience but not numerical kills et al) demanded by the VO who is an Indian American I guess, I was still handed the S.214 or something. GRE was never a requirement for my PhD program and never ever mentioned or demanded by the school. I made him understand this but he rascibly persisted on having it. I was previously denied and I probably thought he was never ready to reverse that decision. His body language was "I was dead on arrival". I have asked same question again on Quora. I requested a retired VO to tell me categorically if I should go get a GRE (previous one having expired). My supervisor up to the Director of my school were furious at the 2 denials and said there were no basis for such (first denial VO said how could I leave my family of 3 kids minors for 4 years even when I said they would be visiting and my wife is entrepreneur who has 6 employees, further explanation, she said I was preaching her). This is the least of my worries now cos I have moved on with other plans.
iamyemiakins: For a man who has swung from a 2,700ft building, clung to the outside of a plane taking off and learned to hold his breath underwater for six minutes, a parachute jump doesn’t represent a Mission: Impossible, even at the age of 58.
Tom Cruise, who famously likes to perform his own stunts, last week threw himself out of a helicopter 10,000ft over the Oxfordshire countryside for the latest movie in the franchise.
Two of the other cast members joined him in the skydive after filming on Mission: Impossible 7 resumed following a Covid shutdown.
Writer-director Christopher McQuarrie has promised at least three ‘obscene’ stunts as the franchise continues, admitting that even he’s ‘terrified’ of his own plans.
Cruise has been practising his stunts during lockdown, and has been seen racing around dirt tracks on a motocross bike and piloting a helicopter.
The actor broke his ankle while filming a stunt for the last Mission: Impossible movie in London three years ago, but that hasn’t dampened his enthusiasm for daredevil action.
He later recalled how he sustained the injury when his foot hit a wall during a heart-stopping rooftop chase involving co-star Henry Cavill.
‘I knew instantly my ankle was broken,’ he said. ‘But I really didn’t want to do it again so just got up and carried on with the take.
‘[After the shot] I said “It’s broken, that’s a wrap, take me to hospital”, and everyone got on the phone and made their vacation arrangement.’
Cruise – who is planning to shoot a future movie on board the International Space Station – personally lobbied Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden for permission to allow shooting to restart on Mission: Impossible 7, despite the coronavirus crisis, but with a reduced crew. It is now due for release in November next year.
Last week it was revealed that McQuarrie wanted to blow up a 111-year-old bridge in Poland as part of the shoot, much to the consternation of locals.
wow, superb grammatical constriction: For a man who has swung from a 2,700ft building, clung to the outside of a plane taking off and learned to hold his breath underwater for six minutes, a parachute jump doesn’t represent a Mission: Impossible, even at the age of 58. Reminded me of Daily Times opening paragraph in the article describing Abacha's death: After an energy sapping sexual encounter with an Indian prostitute, the infantry General expired
Liftmaster: I second the "buyer beware" caution for buying an older Mercedes or any German brand. They tend to need lots of maintenance at around 100k miles. But what caught my attention is that OP is cross shopping a three row SUV vs. 2 row SUV vs a sedan. My question to OP is "what exactly do you need the vehicle for or to do for you"?
Private use. Travel to other states. I am still thinking I should settle for my usual Japanese. I really crave yo test an SUV Benz of such class within my budget.
Its an understatement to say that Nigeria has a harsh business environment. It is more than harsh, it is predatory and sadistic, to say the least. Sorry I am not blaming everything on the Pandemic. To cut a long sad story short, I paid a rent of 1.6m in a small shop somewhere in the FCT and shortly after that, the lock down started. I had no option than to pack my kaya out of the shop at the skeletal resumption of activities and the uncertainties of stable continuity in the face of the global pandemic vis a vis the kind of items I sell (switching to another kind of trade, on the tides of the realities of the pandemic is also not easy without some funds). I have also asked for a refund of half the sum unexpired residue, but landlord said until someone occupies ad pays; non till now.
I had approached the National Microfinance Bank for the so called Palliative loan from CBN but the experience is not what I want to bore you with. I also approached a commercial Bank I started banking with since 2013, but the conditions they gave me are just jaw dropping in the negative sense. The finance houses that I described as money lenders are not even in focus as their interest rates are just killing.
Business in Nigeria is quite a herculean task, entrepreneurship is by divine providence if one should tell himself the truth- I mean starters like us, don't get me wrong. Ideas are dead and frozen, not an inch encouraged. Many that flourish in their stuff have benefactors that are looters and shady practitioners of sorts. The banks run after the already wealthy and even beg to give them more credit without documentations. It is quite cheaper and safer for them in a country where a barber may not see 5 hours electricity to power his clipper while the basest politician lives in Nigerian Dubai. A clear depiction of dysfunctional society!
What more can I say? I think it is time to start asking the right questions. It is really terrible business wise around here.
