Truth is that as much as we claim eko as Lagos. Eko was like you mentioned Lagos island while other areas like mainland Lagos was controlled by the Oyo empire.

And just like it was done in Europe, royals from different kingdoms marry each other for peace and trade. So it's not out of place for a Yoruba prince to be in the bini court and vice versa.
