Secularist: Funny people calling me and giving me ridiculous prices having no prior experience.

Anyone who lives in the north close to where any of these commodities are being harvested and sold should give me a holla. And i know the actual prices so any one ridiculously underpricing or over pricing would not get my attention.

Funny people. It may be better for me to just employ such a person and let him go and scout for the commodities on behalf of my company and pay him per 30 tons sourced. I am willing to buy the goods on sight at preferably kaduna. If you are up to it and not some desperate and clueless hustler, then paste your number.
My company is located in the number one sesame producing state. I can work as your sourcing person. I can call you tomorrow if you wish.
BusinessRe: Cassava Sellers And Buyers, Lets Meet Here by stagger: 9:04pm On Dec 01, 2013
A processor can also plant his crop to use as raw materials in which case they are harvested as needed since cassava starts to rot as from day 2 and 3 post harvest.

However, research has shown that hydrocyanic acid is found more in cassava that has remained underground for long periods. So some advise to use early harvest cassava for food products (gari, fufu, flour, HQCF) and late harvest cassava for starch, glucose syrup and dextrin. However, proper processing with heat, cutting, peeling, grating and fermentation will remove most of the HCN.
BusinessRe: Cassava Sellers And Buyers, Lets Meet Here by stagger: 8:57pm On Dec 01, 2013
pman06: I dont think 18months old cassava can be bought by those HQCF mills. Cos its even stated on their site that it must not be more 18months old.

@e-jaja i stay close to the river basin, if its something i can ask around on your behalf, do let me know.
My point is, cassava can be harvested at 9 months. The only reason farmers leave their crop in the ground for up to 18 months is because of the fall in prices between May and October when the rains are active.

E-Jaja:
Well for a start 10 hectares is not much if you have the money to cultivate it, as for getting that size of land it depends on which part of the country u are, you can always get lands From LGA, Mins of agric, river basin development authorities, from communities and even individuals. As for ten hectares ur can do it with human labourers. But that's not to say u can't start with one or two hectares and grow from there

@kalxavier in my own opinion I would advice you look at starting withthings like vegitable to grow ur money then you can now head into cassava.

@everyday it takes cassava between 12 to 18 for industrial use cassava and 12 months for cassava for garri, and those for 6 to 9 months are not advicable as thy can be very very funny and delicate. As for the blueprint you nee to decide what ur target market is and you desired goal in the biz.

@pman06 that budget you gave I think is not totally adequate. As for the favor I wanted to ask if you can help me make enaquires at the ogun-osun river basin development authority.
Where did you get the info that length of time to maturity determines which is used for gari or industrially? I have not seen it written anywhere.

PoliticsRe: Go And Die - Oshiomole Tells A Widow! by stagger: 4:40pm On Nov 29, 2013
rexbuton: Many people attacking him have never been to benin city. During lucky igbinedion's regime, The state was dirty, corrupt, unruly and murderous. Igbinedion did not complete even one capital project on his own. Adams comes in, begins massive construction and rehabilitation of roads and structures. He constructed roads leading to those rural areas, even in the opposition held edo central.. When elections come What happens? These same edo central people massively vote pdp, just because they want their son to be governor.. All These development came at a cost... He banned roadside trading, illegal car parking, roadside touting and heavy taxation. The taxes are used to fund The constructions, since lucky and his pdp thugs left The state in penury. The people began to complain about tax, even When they could see development like street lights, double traffic lights on every major road, and benin has one of The largest number of roads and adjoining streets in The country.. The beautification of ring road and The linking roads was being undone by The same people he was working for. Bus drivers would reverse on top of kerbs and destroy The potted flowers, these stupid hawkers would hawk their wares and throw The garbage into The newly constructed drains, I even had to confront a woman who was disposing corn cobs into The drains.. The governor finally outlawed road side trading and car parking... If You go to ringroad as I speak, you'd still see these hawkers selling rice and foodstuff just by The road, is this right? Would You have prefered that The woman be locked up? These are The same people that Would come out tomorrow and vote pdp, just because of tribal issues.. Being a widow doesn't permit You to break laws. Oshiomhole also has his shortcomings, his traffic police have become more of a nuisance than The opposition party, he should put a leash on those goons. The man has tried, he also solved The perennial flooding by constructing a central water channel ' storm water project'... Did lucky do all these ? So When I see people come here to abuse a Good man, It hurts me.. Because we voted for him, we protested and rioted for him, we marched under The sun to attend tribunal sittings, some of us even died in The struggle! When I was still in The country, we saw his works and appreciated them, please do same. For those who do not know, oshiomhole is a widower ! ! Long live nigeria
You are a bagger for saying all this rubbish. If I saw you face to face I will ask my boys to beat sense into you because if I handle you myself you will die.

I have lived in Benin, old Benin to be exact. There is no amount of cleaning up of a city that will substitute for treating a human being (a widow for that matter) with dignity.

How can you even make a comparison between a widower in a patriarchal society like Nigeria who is in charge of state power, to a helpless widow on the street who was shedding tears of agony at her livelihood being taken away?

Oshiomhole should remember what the bible said about widows: God becomes their husband. That bastard comrade governor will be met with judgement by God, mark my words.

If a former labour leader in the country who served two terms could say this to a widow, then what will a typical PDP governor like Martins Elechi or the ex-Bayelsa man Timipre Silva (two men whom I know to be naturally wicked) do?

And some people are angling for state police so that despots in the skin of labour leaders will have the absolute power to do and undo? NO!

BusinessRe: Want To Sue Firstbank For Denying My Business Loan by stagger: 1:16pm On Nov 29, 2013
tecboss: @heed101: Thanks for your smart contribution. I would like to address the points u raised.
(1)- My business is profitable and in 10years, I told The BM that our verifiable turnover in nigerian banks is about 1billion naira. My unity bank statement only for past 1year is 140million, Firstbank is about 20million, keystone-20million. We have about 18 persons employed at a given time.
(2)- I beg to disagree with u that the loan money is small, being their reason for not attending to it or that they cant afford to waste their time. Till tomorrow, banks do process loans of 200k or less to their customers. So why cant they do 2.7m? I do not understand what u mean by physical verification. You should know that its the customer that bears cost of bank search and verifications. (3) my company is credit worthy. A search with Credit Bureau will show that we are not indebted to any bank presently. This is not our first loan. Our last loan of 8million taken from Unity bank last November has been prematuredly liquidated b4 the due date.(5) we are lucky to find ourselves in a viable and lucrative business. Our company deals on Mobile phones, Laptops, mobile phone and computer accessories, components etc. And we are the current leaders where we are located. (6) My brother, am not unaware that character is a criteria for accessing facility. If it Is necessary to mention it, i have an impeccable character. The fact that i am considering the option of a legal action does not in any way signify or imply that my character is questionable. Rather, its an indication of my desire to seek a legal interpretion of what my rights are. The BDM, at Airport Rd, round about , Warri, told me that my request has not been brought to his table and he equally stated that its my right, not a privillege, as a customer to acces any type of loan facility. It is obvious that the Business Manager at the branch level is the one sitting on my loan application.

Please I need more intelligent contributions. Thanks
Wow! Speechless!

Now I am more than convinced you have no business looking for bank loan. Better still, since you have a positive borrowing record with Unity Bank, why did you not approach them for this loan?

BusinessRe: Want To Sue Firstbank For Denying My Business Loan by stagger: 12:06pm On Nov 29, 2013
Why would you take a bank loan to purchase an operational vehicle? Yet you still have to pay N900,000 as down payment? Can't you look for a place to purchase a "like new" vehicle and push on? The months you have wasted waiting for this bank could have been used to structure a business to take care of the cost of this "operational" vehicle.

What really is the make of this vehicle and what business operation would it be used for?

A new car automatically loses 30% of its value the moment it is driven out of a car stand. So if you default, what does the bank hold on to in recovering their money? This is the underlying factor in loan issuance and if a lender cannot see a good ending to the whole arrangement, they will pull out.

pman06: Thanks for your valuable contributions. Please what was ur experience with selling of cassava tubbers?

All of your inputs is highly appreciated. Thanks.
I never sold them. They were used to make gari, fufu and starch, all for our use. Besides, this was between 1988 and 1992. It is too long ago now, considering we have better varieties now that are higher yielding and more resistant to disease.

E-Jaja:
@ pmann06
Well the fact you did not dtudy agric is no excuse for ur ignorance, I studied computing at both BSc and Msc level so but I have done my research properly in thr last 6 months and am ready to hit the groun runing with alll the information I have gathered. As for the what stagger said regarding local and improvoed variaties are true if you planted the old variaty you should be expecting between 5 to 11 tons and the upper limits applies only when the soil is fertile and best agronomic practices are apllied along side fetilizer. Mind you I would not advice you to replant you current stem if you do no know the variety, knowing the variety u have makes it easier to sell. On the other hand if you can't sell to industrial users then you can go a step forward by adding value to the cassava root by converting it to Garri or fufu and u can sell to the local market @ a resonable price.

@ stagger I would like to plead that u give people complete information, and not just give a generic information which does not give intennded farmers a proper information.
the national average for cassava per hectare is 25 tons. To achive this certain things have to be put in place.
Thank you for your contribution. I have loads of information on cassava. I farmed it at subsistence level, intercropping with maize when I was much younger. I merely pointed out to pmann06 the value of knowing what variety he planted because it can make the difference between a successful harvest and a total crop failure. But like he identified, he went into it to see what it was all about and frankly, I give him kudos for at least putting into practice something he wanted to do unlike many graduates I meet here in Abuja and in my village calling me and asking me to give them work or give them money.
BusinessRe: Cassava Sellers And Buyers, Lets Meet Here by stagger: 12:18am On Nov 28, 2013
I also forgot to mention that the variety you plant will determine if the crop will survive the cassava mosaic disease, especially the recombinant version which emanated from Uganda and spread throughout Africa in the mid-90s.
BusinessRe: Cassava Sellers And Buyers, Lets Meet Here by stagger: 12:13am On Nov 28, 2013
pman06: First am not an agric student, i just happen to risk planting cassava to see how it turns out, which means i have no clue about the variety i planted, i just source for it from local farmers. As for the cost, am sure you wont spend more than 100k. Just earmark 100k, but am sure you wont spend it all.
You need to know which variety you planted. The modern varieties yield on the average 30 tons per hectare. Selling at 20k per ton, you can walk away with N600k for your N100k investment, which is not bad for a variety that produces in a few months.

But if you used the old varieties that only yield about 10tons per hectare, then you stand to make just N200k, leaving you with N100k profit. These species also take much longer to produce.

Which is better: N500k or N100k? The difference lies in a simple decision and some research done at the start of your planting journey. See why information is very important?
