EducationRe: ASUU - No-work-no-pay Rule Will Not Stop Us From Striking by stagger: 1:58pm On Oct 21, 2013
With academic staff, there is no such thing as no work. It is either they are marking scripts, doing research or lecturing. That they stopped lecturing does not mean that they are not working, because once strike is off they will have to cover the lost time.

So I personally do not think that the "no work no pay" rule should hold. After all, how many days in a year do our lawmakers work that they are given the jumbo allowances they collect?

PoliticsRe: Aero Contractors To Emerge National Carrier by stagger: 11:43am On Oct 21, 2013
israel007: This a good development.

You mean aero has a good safety record? That's because they haven't crashed. Take off is scary landing is fasting and prayers. I've had 2 near crash incidents on aero so tell me more about their safety.
They should have considered med-view actually
Aeros planes are old, but they do not compromise the biannual sim certification of their pilots and their aircraft undergo regular checks. DO not forget that Aero is one of the official carrier of the United Nations, providing charter services for the global body. The international brand will not permit Aero Nigeria to soil that reputation.

BusinessRe: FG To Convert Federal Reserves To Chinese Currency by stagger: 11:39am On Oct 21, 2013
I laugh in Chinese. All central banks hold their foreign reserves in several currencies, and the CBN is no exception. The CBN probably only wants to increase the size of its RNB holdings and scale down its USD foreign reserves.

The topic of the thread is grossly misleading.

BusinessRe: Fire Guts Onitsha Market, Traders Attempt Suicide by stagger: 2:13pm On Oct 19, 2013
Dealers have goods worth hundreds of millions of naira in a market, and they cannot setup strategic fire extinguishing posts that will not cost more than one million to setup. A N50,000 investment per trader to safeguard their goods was too much.

People and their penny wise, pound foolish approach to business never cease to amaze me.
CrimeRe: Bail Granted To ALUU 4 Suspects by stagger: 2:45pm On Oct 18, 2013
Policewoman: Granted them bail on account dat d offence is not capitalhuh Pls which univesity or school did that mumu Judge graduate from? sad
I will like to know who this policewoman is. Was the Aluu monarch part of those who beat the Aluu 4 physically? Is he directly charged for murder? It is people like this who join the police force and display all the stupidity we see everywhere.

You are asking which univesity (sic) the judge graduated from. You can't even spell "university". Tell us which school you graduated from. At least someone like my good friend Supol Mike Chukwuma is a PhD holder and a very cerebral person. Which useless school spewed you out of its system?

Besides if we go by such arguments, what role did the police play in stopping the brutality? There is a police division in Choba just 5 mins drive from that spot, and another at Emohua just 10 mins drive from the area. Are you telling me that these divisions were not aware of what was going on at the time the incidents were taking place?

We must therefore charge the policemen and women on duty for murder then... not so?

There has never been shortage of agreements in the past. Is it not the same government that promised and SIGNED an agreement in 2009 that cannot keep to its words?

Now it is down to more promises..AGAIN!
BusinessRe: New Tricks Used By Filling Station's Pump Attendant by stagger: 9:31pm On Oct 16, 2013
A yamhead had tried it with me at Total filling station just before Water lines in PH. He did not zero the pump before he started pumping into my car thinking I did not know. Unfortunately for him, my tank was virtually empty and I refused to move the car from there, pulled out my phone and started dialing my friends in the military base. I told the guy he was going to be seriously worked on in the barracks. I made so much noise their manager came out and when I told him what happened and told him he will be there to see soldiers drilling his staff physically in the station before they bundle him off to the guardroom, he started begging me.

Useless idiots. Let me see any attendant try it with me and I will ensure that such a station does not do business for at least one year. Nonsense.

Car TalkRe: Check The Authenticity Of Your Plate Number by stagger: 4:17pm On Oct 14, 2013
The whole concept is total rubbish.

The FRSC is not the only agency to issue number plates in Nigeria. This means that only the number plates that the FRSC issued will be in the database. This is yet another move to defraud Nigerians by a government agency. The FRSC should either take that site down, or work hard to liaise with all the number plate-issuing agencies to harmonize their database.

I got my latest number plate in Lagos when I bought a vehicle and it was duly registered with all relevant agencies including the police headquarters. I never had any dealing with FRSC. So how will they come by my number plate details? And how about the guy who entered his number plate only to be told it has not been registered to any vehicle? Haba mana!

EducationRe: ASUU Strike: A Lecturer Speaks by stagger: 12:41pm On Oct 11, 2013
theoctopus: This Prof is just selfishly playing to the gallery. Funds are not the reason for the poor graduates our universities are churning out. Bad lecturers are. You don't need funds to learn. You need funds to learn comfortably. These are two different things. When these lecturers talk of poor infrastructure, what they don't tell you is that even departments that don't need labs and research centers with modern equipment, still tun out poor students. Tell me how a graduate of political science requires heavy infrastructure to learn? they make 't sound like the whole university needs labs. They also make it sound like you need internet connection and computerized blackboards to produce intelligent graduates. Try his is all false. These infrastructures will help the students learn in a more conducive and comfortable environment, but only good lecturers will turn out good students.
Your argument is porous. Any country that wants to make it in today's world relies on industrialization, and what professions drive industrialization? Is it political scientists?

How can you produce engineers without investing in technology to teach the course in university?

Have you heard of William Perry, former US Defense Secretary? He was (and still is) a university lecturer that participated in the design of a weapons defense system that is in use by the US Armed Forces today. These are the things ASUU is calling on the government to FUND so that we can truly achieve the dream of Vision 20:20:20. It is not by political statements.

Nigerians should wake up!
IslamRe: What is the cost of Sallah Ram in your area? by stagger: 12:19pm On Oct 11, 2013
A very big ram goes for between N130,000 to N150,000 even in Deidei market. The more time you waste, the costlier it will become.
EducationRe: ASUU Strike: A Lecturer Speaks by stagger: 12:11pm On Oct 11, 2013
Prof. Femi,

You are so exactly on point.

I was a university student when ASUU was on strike in 1992 for 9 months and in 1996 for 6 months. Not to count the numerous school closures we had as a result of riots against the university authorities to improve conditions, the same conditions ASUU is fighting for.

My first year school fees? N40. My first year accommodation? N110.

By the time I left school, my total school fees and accommodation was not more than N10,000. So when we check the total fees I paid in my first degree, it could not come to more than N100,000 in school fees and accommodation combined: less than $650. LAUGHABLE.

ANY WONDER WHY FACILITIES AND CONDITIONS WERE SIMPLY SO DIFFICULT FOR US?

Fast forward a few years. Did 2 post graduate programs in Australia and Europe. Total cost? Tuition fees alone: nearly $40,000. Not counting living expenses, accommodation (paid in three months what I paid for my house back in PH for a whole year).

Check out the difference: paying less than N100,000 total school fees in Nigeria, as opposed to $40,000 (N6.6million) for post graduate degrees abroad.

THE COLD HARD TRUTH: Nigerians love good things but do not want to pay for them.

ASUU is fighting a very just cause for Nigerian students who have totally failed to see the big picture. A day will come when ASUU will stop agitating to get the Nigerian government to do their work: fund public universities. PUBLIC universities are GOVERNMENT PROPERTY. How can a house owner totally neglect to take care of his own property?

The only other option when ASUU stops agitating: NIGERIAN STUDENTS WILL START PAYING TUITION FEES. By the time a student in UNILAG or UNIABUJA or UNIMAID or LAUTECH will start paying N3million, N5million, N10,million a year, then the eyes of Nigerian students will open and they will start screaming: HAD WE KNOWN! Then it will be too late.

Name them. You think lecturers are hungry people?
Christianity EtcRe: Are Churches Really Helping The Poor And Unemployed In Our Society Today? by stagger: 2:22pm On Oct 10, 2013
Ukuts gp: Are churches really helping the poor and the less priviledge in our society? considering the way pastors are buying jets, building mega churches worth billions of naira, cruising on an expensive cars even when some members hardly feed and takes care of their families. When you look at churches you will discover that they hardly help the poor and the unemployed members to stand on their feet financially. Building mega churches, buying private jets is not my problem, but helping the needy and unemployed is. My point is churches should contribute to helping the less priviledge in the church and society in general, that is what jesus is expecting churches to be doing and not the other way round. Now the question is: are churches helping the poor and needy in our society today or not? Give your candid opinion. Thanks.
Why don't you do a documentary on that and pay a visit to the churches in question on welfare days. In Winners, I cannot recollect how many of choice clothes and suits i and my wife have given away. Some bring food. Others bring all sorts of materials, given to people who need them. Not to talk of the outreaches.

OP, you and other biased people like you will only see what you want to see. Those who are objective know the truth.

Can someone who has registered a company in the last one week tell us how much it cost? Because if the minimum amount has not come down to N25,000, then everything that has been said here makes no sense.

WHAT IS THE COST IN COLD HARD NAIRA?

i don't think i've heard of music stations paying royalties for playing music - typically artistes give stations promotional copies
What planet do you live in? This is the practice abroad. Even Multichoice pays for all movies broadcast on Africa Magic.
