casualobserver: Go and read up on Venezuela and what subsidy has done to them. They have the most oil reserves in the world (more than Saudi) , their petrol is the cheapest in the world thanks to subsidies and 97% of the population lives in poverty. That’s the path Nigeria was on. It’s no coincidence we became the poverty capital of the world in the last 12 years under the subsidy regime.
No point in arguing with you anyway. Subsidy is gone and it ain’t coming back, if you like strike, when hunger catch all of una nobody will tell you to buy petrol or buy a bicycle and go to work. keep shut oga. |
Politics › Re: Removal Of Fuel Subsidy Is Good But Nigeria Still Have A Long Way To Go by Standing5(m): 5:39pm On Jun 03, 2023 |
They will start with one or two good paper initiative then loot the subsidy proceeds. after that, they will go after forex subsidy, education subsidy and then tax increase. All these will be interjected by flashy and bogus PPP long term looting projects then they will finish it of with more tax. |

Politics › Re: Is This Same Person The Owner Of Nairaland? by Standing5(m): 9:44am On Jun 03, 2023 |
He is right.
Civil servant don't spend all their money on fuel alone. Other commodities are only expected to experience a marginal increase in production cost as a result of petrol price increase.
Take farm produce for example, petrol price increase cant and won't push prices of fertilizer, labour, or seedlings up by 200%. Never. |

nairavsdollars: He fought Tinubu to a Standstill during his tenure as president even denying him Lagos LG allocations.
He hounded Ibori to jail using his puppet, Goodluck Jonathan and the EFCC
He frustrated Osoba in Ogun State and ensure he didn't get second term in 2003.
How will former president Olusegun Obasanjo feel seeing these ones in charge ? He should have put them all in jail and saved us a generation of thieving godfather across regions. |
Politics › Re: Benin Republic Petrol Prices Soar As Nigeria Moves To End Subsidy- BBC by Standing5(m): 8:28am On Jun 03, 2023 |
Perfectbeing: Nigeria border is over 4500km. That's more than 5X the distance of Lagos to Abuja. How many customs, soldiers, Immigration officers can man that length? Nigeria is 900 thousand sqkm yet DSS claims to have ear in every nook and crany. Why not employ 20,000 personal and pay them N75k to infiltrate smugglers? That's N20b a year and about what goes to subsidy in a day or two. That same border suddenly became tight in security when it was time for closure and food embargo so why not against fuel smugglers? Tinubu once asked Buhari to recruit 50,000 into the army so why not take a cue from his own school of thought and use to solve the problem? |

dokyOloye: Exactly. So Nigerians have to pay more because the zoo customs service, zoo immigration service, zoo police, dss etc have refused to do their job Zoos exist in hands of zoo management team. That leave the govt overseeing the zoo immigration services, zoo police, zoo custom service an animal one. |

Politics › Re: NLC Should Denand N100,000 Minimum Wage by Standing5(m): 7:06am On Jun 03, 2023 |
SalamRushdie: Minimum wage is a ruse , when minimum wage becomes 100k it would still buy just the same things your 30k buys today, the trick is to improve purchasing power and not increase minimum wage Exactly. It isn't about the volume of money in hand but what can be exchanged with the money. That's why there has to be a concerted drive to increase production from LG to state to FG level. Industrials estates, state owned industries, state subsidized industries, stakes in strategic multinationals, industries and within the right industries. Not buying of bonds and taking heavy loans. |
