Pls note that Super Tucano flies cheaper than this in Nigeria. We don't pay our pilots that much per hour and a gas is cheaper.
Nigeria will eventually buy 200 Super Tucanoes for those who are lacking in technical vision of what this aircraft means to the security architecture of Nigeria.

It actually reduces the manpower to be deployed on the ground if you can get accurate picture of what is happening from the air and communicate it fast to authority . Our recurrent expenditure on military operations will fall.

The Tucano is a reconnaissance/ light attack aircraft. Electronic warfare features were not incorporated by the manufacturer and they never claimed it.

Secondly, will your EW suit stop the Triple A guns when you're attacking or leaving at a very slow speed?.

NOTE: EWS effective on a system might not be effective on another.

All Super Tucano offensive capabilities are at stand off distances.

The things you are trying to shoot down in the future are intelligent instruments, when they are targeted, they will track the source, relay the signals and artificially get shut down but new ones emerge that can shoot HARM.

I think "best platforms for SEAD" depend on the target at hand.

I am thinking swarms of interactive and cheap drones in an AI environment. One set of drones sucks in all frequency and comms info about air defences and the other set homes in on frequencies and attacks with sub munitions.
All Russian air defence doctrine is based on wrong assumptions.

1. Tucanos arent designed for a contested airspace - one got shot down by Narco-terrorists in South America
2. A contested airspace is a contested a contested airspace - africa or elsewhere.
3. Your major neigbors posses significant AA capabilities: Cameroon - Oerlikon GDF. Chad - SA-6/13/7, Stinger, ZU-23.
4. Tucano is incapable of SEAD, you would only be able to use the AGM-65 which has the range, but you need something to target with.
5. Lobbyists have nothing to do with anything - the Mi-28 and Mi-35 are made by the same company

This is the ONLY mistake Buhari is making. Nigeria is gone to the dogs if we allow these "modular refineries". The first picture i saw and it is a disaster I see. Unfortunately we have so many "local breed" youths who don't see what experienced engineers see.
None of these TIN pots would be allowed in an European country. How are they going to make money when Dangote refineries come and our FG owned refineries start working?. The FG has agreed to this just to buy peace but the waste and environmental disaster will still be apparent

This aircraft will plug loopholes in security architecture in more than five areas from border patrol, COIN, pipeline survey, anti smuggling surveillance, anti piracy and so on.

Nigeria will eventually buy more than 100 of these aircraft. They will be networked to NAF operational control room, DHQ, Aso Rock crisis response center.

Nigeria is paying for an entire capability. This is not Jankara market.

Please stop all this rubbish. There is politics with degenerate pot bellied traders masquerading as politicians and there is hard business of National security.

The price Nigeria paid is the same that Iraq and Afghanistan paid. So no issues there. Let the NASS pass the budget we need to add money to the security budget through another supplementary budget.

I knew that was what Nigeria wanted to do. They will mount PAVE II system and APKWS from the Super Tucano deal on all AW 109 choppers. They will have utility choppers more effective than MI 35M for one fifth of the price.
AW 109 is just $7m. Nigerian registered companies can maintain it. There are many pilots ready to fly it. It can carry FLIR for night ops, TOW missiles and 20mm canons.

Obviously they want to put the MI 35Ms on lower rate of delivery whilst stacking up on the more reliable, cheap, very versatile and higher technology AW 109. The Filipino Air Force had the right idea from the start that we are borrowing from. Since Boko Haram font just operate from distant outposts like Sambisa but the action is now moving to semi rural areas and even urban areas, then lighter, cheaper, more agile and more accurate delivery choppers are increasingly being required. Sometimes you want to take out vehicles with precision strike, disembark troops to engage whilst staffing the enemy with canons and machine guns. The AW 109 will do everything. And you can take it to the hangar and convert it to VIP transport the next day for Oga's inspection.

We have ordered and paid for 3 JF 17 aircrafts. That money is not returned. It is a contract. NAF in the next few years will have some MIGs, JF17, Super Tucanoes, extended life Alpha Jets and extended life L-35ZA

I think we need to upgrade our earlier MI-24V and MI-35p, add EO POD, that's something we can do right here in Nigeria.

Light Utility Helicopters should be around 21 units in all.

Medium lift is the area we need serious intervention. In both the fixed wing and rotary wing side.

As for front line fighters, with the purchase of the Tucanos, it will be very unlikely that Nigeria will still go ahead with the JF-17 thunder. I seriously doubt it.

My thinking is, i don't see the new capability the JF-17 will bring to the table that the F-7 and Tucanos cannot fulfil.

Instead of the JF-17, irrespective of what the budget says, military planners might be looking elsewhere. Transport aircrafts or a twin engine fighter.

This is my opinion.

Besides why bother buying a JF-17 Block II now when in 10 years 4 generation technology might become obsolete. Instead, wait and go for a 4+ generation aircraft.

We need six (6) nos of a 4++ Gen Heavy Combat Aircraft to balance capabilities. The ability to go from a remote airfield in Nigeria to take out a threat in a neighbouring country or in the gulf of guinea. This is very important.
