georgee:43 Mpbs is pretty decent. Sometimes we get carried away by speed. Except you can notice the slow internet connection, you should be good. Any good router should work fine. It doesn't have to be dual band. The router just need to provide coverage on the ground floor for you. |
Nigerianquest:What you want to achieve is pretty simple but you're not framing your words correctly. You want to build or own your web servers. If that's what you want, it's achievable. Many individuals own their server systems in their home. Now the question is...There are many Authorized HP|Dell dealers in Ikeja, Lagos. They're visible online. You can also order used servers and have it shipped to you. A single server can serve you, but you actually need a minimum of 2 servers. 2. How much would they cost? (For 1000 Terabytes). The cost of a server is not determined by it's storage. A one petabyte storage is common on NAS that can be linked to your server. A server can cost you 1M NGN and another can cost you 30M NGN. The latest HPE ProLiant DL385 Gen10 Plus cost about 20k USD. 3. Do Internet service providers like MTN, GLO, allow you buy internet subscription for those computer servers? (Note: This is because you'll need your own router to set up a computer web server and some countries ISP doesn't allow web servers monthly subscription).Yes, there are several ISPs that can provide you good service. MTN, GLO have several plans to suit your needs. There are many other companies. I don't understand some countries ISP that doesn't allow web servers monthly subscription. Give examples. 4. Is the Network for those computer servers good? (That's, hope no downtime and the rest, etc).Yes, the network is good. All networks can suffer from downtime that's why you should have 2 providers. At a time I had service from Mainone and Glo. Computer servers are in computer Labs in some universities, so anyone that knows the answer to these should pls help the house.Yes, computer servers are in many universities and companies in Nigeria, but you're not building anything close. |
missimelda01:Irrespective of the platform you'll need the account no and routing/ABA number. |
Deicide:It's very easy to blame the bank for all these, but the bank may not be the culprit. There are different layer of institutions and processes involved in financial transactions and the bank is part of the cycle. It can be a complex web depending on the transaction. There are switching companies like Interswitch, Chams, Unified Payments and ETranzact and NIBSS that are involved but many are not aware of these companies. The telcos play their role as well as payment networks. These issues reminds me of the battle between programmers and Engineers many years ago when programmers would blame the systems and network while the Engineers would blame the applications for failure. We've passed that stage now. Every system or app have a limit and in distress they all failed. Apple have over 200 billion USD in the bank but their website often crash during preorders. Same with Samsung. If you don't understand how these things work, it's easy to throw blames. I would blame the CBN in all of this and I guess you know why. Their policy lacked technical analysis. |
Treadway:The article was correct and it is in line with the NBS figures for 2022. It was only referring to FDI which is a subset of capital importation. FDI was 468M and capital importation was 5,328M |
tensazangetsu20:That's actually correct but the right name is capital importation. FDI is a subset of capital importation which was 468M for 2022. Capital importation was 5,328M |
richardakindele:It's more expensive. I've made that point, several times. Obviously you haven't done any research. How much? And through which company?Make use of Google. Chat up 3 or more companies and you'll get quotes. |
incogni2o:I stopped responding to @MrBrownJay1 so as not to derail the topic. No. I'm not. List the cultures that support that. That a practice is common doesn't make it acceptable. There's a reason humans are referred to as intelligent beings. Those are values accepted in the animal kingdom. There's no culture in the world that values beating a spouse. I have heard about it several times, I witnessed the case of a woman beating her man and I called the cops on her. If you want to practice your fighting skills there are sports to do so. If there are issues in marriage there are alternate dispute resolution (ADR). I'm not sanctimonious, but the practice of domestic violence is an act everyone should kick against. Men and women suffer from it. |
Shokoloko:You're correct. I'm glad your relatives are having the best of their relationships. I also love your expression. "It's a big world out there". I find this to be true everyday. Let's keep fit and make the world a better place. |
tensazangetsu20: ![]() I've never seen an 800 pound person. If the woman is overweight, she can burn the fat if both of you hit the gym daily. |
MrBrownJay1:That's it. A change in location should accompany a change in behavior. I know a number of women who desire to get married but their issue is the man will change once he comes here. My next question is what are your options? consider this. When foreigners get married to Nigerians, the marriage tends to lasts longer compared to Nigerian couples. Eg In 2014, I linked up 8 USC with Nigerians that ended in marriage, all are still married. That same year I know 5 Nigerian marriages that only 2 are still couples today. While that is a personal observation, you will agree that we tend to have a higher tolerance towards our foreigners spouses which we don't exhibit toward our Nationals. We create different expectations. We shy away from having meaningful and sometimes difficult discussions during courtship. Honestly I would expect my spouse to change if I brought her from Nigeria but the real issues are the men need to change their "orientation" and the women need to "understand" their men. |
MrBrownJay1:This is not a woman thing. Men and women change. There have been a lot of men who were brought by their wives/girlfriends and they changed. It is natural for people to change. As we go through life, we have experiences that shape our beliefs, values, and perspectives. These experiences can lead to changes in our personalities, goals, and attitudes. In fact, change is a constant part of life and can often be positive as we grow and learn from our experiences. It is important to embrace change and see it as an opportunity for personal growth and development. Why on earth should a man beat a woman, that's a barbaric attitude and the man rightly deserves jail. |
ferhyntorlah:No need to be sentimental here. In most cases agents are not the problem. When you're desperate, you fall into desperate hands. The OP knows everything as well as most Nigerians. Most people know that you can't work with visitor's visa but they don't care because they believe they can sort their way out once they arrive. I was in Nigeria last year and I had over 5 persons who wanted to drop 4M cash for me to get them over to the US, the question I always ask them is what will you do over there, they see that as the most stupid question ever asked? The Op in Nigeria was quick to correct Justwise in Europe that Greece is part of Schengen. (He's smart) Ednut1 knows he's using his brother as a cover. He's a graduate that has completed his NYSC, he can get all the facts himself. Op go to Greece, their GDP growth rate is among the top in Europe. When you get there you'll be told how to get your work permit which is called the D visa if you can secure employment. Visit Santorini and the Acropolis. Also check out the Delphi, Mount Olympus and the Temple of Zeus. Your life will never remain the same. ![]() |
tensazangetsu20:Wow. In your opinion why do you think the startups are failing? What's wrong? Whenever I attend startup meetings Nigerians always come up with good pitch deck and presentations. Their metrics and vision are on point. But it's worrisome to know that they'll fail. |
airsaylongcome:Why is the company not willing to sponsor you since you will be earning almost 100k? |
richardakindele:It's cheaper sir and I mean by air. Anyone travelling from US to Nigeria has a full luggage and would be paying additional fees to transport your product. The amount is more than what you will logistics company to transport the device for you. There are many logistics companies in the US that can easily handle that. Address the device to them and they will forward it to you. |
richardakindele:It's easier if you reach out to a friend you have in the US. Another option is to get a pump in Nigeria and take your time to ship the foreign pump. It's cheaper to ship the item than travel with it. |
airsaylongcome:You are right, the govt intervened. If the govt had not, it would have been a serious crises for regional banks. |
truthCoder:As with any policy there are benefits and risks. It helps to stimulate the economy by increasing lending, it also helps the institutions. It was changed to 0% during the covid crises. One of the risks is what happened to svb. |
truthCoder:That's the Fed requirement 0%. Nigeria is about 30% |
airsaylongcome:The bank collapsed as a result of interest rates, inflation and investments as a result of too much money. No impact on any of their customers. Every one will get paid. Nickisindigo:They will get their money. |
ahnie:Please note that it is wrong to ask those who they voted for with a view to favoritism/discrimination. We should learn to respect people's views and be tolerant of others on the opposing side. Many couples/families voted differently and it didn't affect their relationship. There's nothing bad in him not voting. Millions also towed that path. Let's grow above sentiments. |
BenedictAbajue:2^x + 2^3x = 16 = 2^x + 2^x+2x = 16 = 2^x (1+2^2x) = 16 = 1 + 2^(2x) = 16 / 2^x = 1 + 2^(2x) = 2^4 / 2^x = 1 + 2^(2x) = 2^(4-x) = 2^(2x) = 2^(4-x) - 1 = 2x = log2(2^(4-x) - 1) = 2x = log2(2^(4-x)) + log2(1 - 1/2^(4-x)) = 2x = (4-x)log2(2) + log2(2^(4-x) - 1) = x = (4 + log2(2^(4-x) - 1)) / 3 |
tensazangetsu20:I won't discourage anyone from going into tech. Most professions don't earn half of what tech pros earn and still live a very good life. Many graduates earn 50/60k per year on other professions. There are jobs and tech is still among the highest paying jobs but there's a game the big guys are trying to play. It's easier as an entry level to accept any amount but when you're mid-level or pro, you're choosy. For example if you were making 300k, you will easily find jobs but getting that pay or higher is the issue. The big companies spoilt the market and they're trying to do a cleanup. A friend told me that when he stated his pay to the hiring manager, he was told that even the CEO don't earn that. The major thing is to have reasonable expectations, you'll still be better than millions of others but you may have debt hanging on your neck. |
Savagethe21st:True there's competition, it's either you face it or look for other options. There are lots of problems that still need solutions so there's need for brilliant minds. One thing that's very important is networking. If a manager wants you, he'll bring you on board no matter the odds. You either need to impress him or he has interest in you. The truth is work visas are not easy in western world. Look at your options critically and most importantly, don't give up on your dreams. Remember: If you continue to wait for the right time you'll waist your entire life and nothing will happen. |
tensazangetsu20:Unfortunately everything you stated is not true. There are no incredibly stupid amount of high paying jobs still available. Not now not before. The biggest companies are downsizing, on hiring freeze and restructuring. Those mostly laid off are residents. You hear of H1B often because they are the ones very active on LinkedIn and rigorously looking for another jobs. They have a limited time to get a new job. Residents are not bothered about that. Residents are not spoilt for jobs at this time. Some of those laid off were called back but on different terms. Guess what, low ball. Recruiters agree that there're not many opportunities as before. I know many people who have spent a century of their lives in tech and struggling to get a job now, I'm in the same forum with many of them. For example Adam Davis keeps a blog on his life and have been a great front end programmer for over 20 years. Apart from my personal experiences the job market charts are not looking good. |
Devdevdev:In life there's a time for everything. There's a reason I wasn't involved in a relationship because it can be a distraction. For 1 year I never opened this site and several other forums, but I've long passed that stage. I long realized that you'll lose 90% of your close friends if you start upgrading your life. Maintain your focus and keep your eyes straight but remember you also have to refresh yourself. No one is coming to solve your problems, your life is 100% your responsibility. |
tosinhtml:Nothing should stop anyone from applying from their dream companies. I don't believe in dreams though. Businesses are made for profit so layoffs are not unexpected. Some of the positions were opened at a lower pay. If outside the US, it's easier to get employment with the big firms. |
MrBrownJay1:That's not the way to renounce citizenship. They're doing such for social media, they can easily get another passport when they apply. |
TheUnsure:You can manage your business anywhere in the world since it's online. Just like you stated I have friends in the US who manage their online businesses they started in Nigeria. You don't have to relocate because of your kids except you really have to. In 8 years they'll be about 18 and can go anywhere they want in the world. 3 of my nephews are in secondary schools in Nigeria. They'll leave once they complete their secondary schooling. In finding a partner, you will find if you're beautiful and have good qualities. Based on the info you presented the easiest way out is through schooling |
saferesearchs:I use Google Bard more than ChatGPT and found it very effective. These are collaborative tools. |
TheOldGods:Some of the things you said are true while others are challenges with the technology. In all I think you didn't carry out a proper research before purchasing the device. It remains the best satellite internet service for now. The pricing is fair looking at the technology deployed. We bought sat dishes for 2M many years ago and that is a simple tech. The customer support is not unique to Nigeria. Weather affects all satellite communications It's strange that you're expecting routers to have batteries since you claim to be in IT. You can change or update your Service Address by logging into your Starlink Account from a web browser, and under the "Location" section select the pencil icon to make edits. You can get a wifi extender and don't have to buy another router from starlink. |
